Maybe it will be a good idea for future fish and Crabs to put a piece of rock that has bubble-hair algae, aptasia in the acclamation box. With limited amounts of food so you can see if that crab/fish will eat whatever pest, algae your dealing with?
Oh my goodness! Nice to meet you, I am Sally!! Thank you for asking about my day, I had a rough day yesterday....I spent 4 stressful hours on the toilet....I am extremely constipated. Beautiful aquarium Johnny!!
Best of luck with the Molly Miller Blenny. I bought one and it didn’t eat any aptasia. I read an article that had success with getting them to eat aptasia but they didn’t feed them. They are very personable fish.
This guy will probably have all the food he wants in the tank... seeing how I am feeding multiple times a day for the Anthias. 😅 I was hoping he would snack on the Aiptasias on the side...
@@InappropriateReefer I have had the best luck with filefish for that. Once the are finished with the aptasia, pull it out and put it in your sump or mangrove tank if it starts going after your LPS or zoas.
with the acclimation box lid, check if it slides back and forward as usually when closing the lid you will have to move the lid forward when closed to get it to lock. hope this helps
I would highly recommend springers damsels, super peaceful and supposedly good at pest removal, also I’d recommend the elongate dottyback because they’re the most peaceful of the dottybacks and they are very pretty.
I've had a Molly Miller for a year. Silly thing hasn't eaten one aiptasia! Psycho fish though. lol. I was feeding the tank and noticed this dude sitting ON TOP of my Gyre - OUT OF THE WATER - just staring at me. Had nightmares for weeks.
Good luck! I've had my Molly Miller Blenny for over 3 years. Never touched an aiptasia. lol. My Copperband butterfly eliminated all my aiptasia in less than a week.
@@InappropriateReefer Has not picked on any of my corals. I don't have a clam so can't say. When I first bought it I tried to offer clams for food and it never went after them. Got mine feeding on live blackworms, mysis and LRS reef frenzy.
Your Gear is AWSOME too! Totally getting my girlfriend some of those pants guess I gotta get a shirt. Where is the guy sweats with that puffer design!?
+1 On being totally fine with a Copperband and clam together. I actually added a Copperband to eat tons of these little featherdusters I had, and once he finished those he sadly couldn’t compete for food against stronger fish. I tried to target feed him but it wasn’t enough and ultimately passed away
Hey bro I bought this same diy quarantine setup. It works great! To close the top you have to slide it into the lock. I was confused for a second too! I'm gonna post mine on Instagram and tag ya btw.😃
Maybe the acclimation box would be more comfortable with a bit of sand at the bottom. It would provide a break from the clear sides of the tank and provide more security
I bought one from my local fish store out the blue marines amazing fish I don’t have any hitchhikers tho just bought it because I’ve always wanted a blenny
My aquarium is Two Years Old...I've had a Molly Miller for most of the Two Years. Recently...I noticed a few Aptasias......The Molly Miller doesn't touch them!
I just got rid of mine. I notice my purple xenia not opening fully and very trimmed didn't know what was the cause then I caught my blenny red handed nibbling at it. Got him out right away saddened surrendering him to my LFS. 😪
To get rid of aiptasia all you need is a syringe and a little bit of lime juice. Stick the aiptasia anywhere and simple deliver that citrusy magic solution. Works for me 🤷🏻♂️
Bro how many of those Dracula gobies are in that tank? 4? Are they like paired up in a sense? I’ve seen them in pairs of 2 with a pistol shrimp or two but I’ve never seen four of them together like that.
The blenny did look to have personality, but you will find that the Jaw fish is one of the most personality fish you will have. They love to build and dig and they are not shy at all. I used to mess around with mine and flatten the sand mounds and it would re-build again. 🤣🤣🤣
@Inappropriate Reefer, my experience with copperband is they are very safe with clams. I kept a few over the years and none of them even look at my maxima clams. Even if (In the rare case)they attack clams, I think clam will close up and you will have time to intervene. You should be more worried about not being able to feed them enough for them to thrive. For me (sadly after a few failed attempts where the fish is eating, but wasted away after a few months) I needed to put it alone in a separate tank until it aggressively feeding on frozen food (first live black worms only and slowly onto frozen food), before putting it in DT. Otherwise, in my experience, they were not able to compete with other fish. Question for you, (beside the first crab that ate ur frogspawns, did you notice any other damage to your corals from emerald crabs from reef cleaners? whether it is in ur main DT or your nano? Thanks.
Thank you, I am seeing similar feedback on the Copperband as you mentioned. I will give the Blenny a few weeks and see if he makes an impact on the Aiptasia situation, if it's same-same, I may seriously look into a Copperband. I mean, I do have an acclimation box built, gotta put it to use! As for the crabs, no further damage by them that I could see both in the 135g and 17g (I have one in the 17g), and they did clean up all the bubble algae!
@@InappropriateReefer if you do end up getting copperband, might be better to put them in ur 17g mangrove tank first and train it there, rather than in acclimation box. They may be stressed in acclimation box and most likely will not eat. Just an option to think about.
My copperbanded nipped on my Trachys, Acans and ate three small Rockflower Anemones before I removed him. I do have a scallop that was/is fine. Did the moly work?
The only issue with the blenny in regards to aiptasia, like peppermint shrimp and such, is that it's only part of what they eat. So if it has other food, it may never eat the glass anemones. The only way to 100% get your aiptasia out are berghia nudibrachs because that's their only food source and they are aggressive hunters. Plus they are so small they don't alter the water parameters in any way with their waste or when they die out after.
I’ve not heard of molly miller blennies eating aiptasia. Mine was a big pain and ended up removing him. Hopefully, yours will be well behaved and received the be kind to tank mates gene. As for aiptasia control, i find bergia are the best natural approach to erradicate apitasia.
like any fish, they have their own personality but the Molly Miller I had was more concerned with killing any fish smaller than it in my tank than aiptasia. 3 fish later and I no longer have it and will stick with starry or lawnmower blennies.
The problem with getting anything to eat aptaisa is the animal has to be some what hunger which means you kinda off have to starve your other fish to. Fish food is designed to be more appealing than aptaisa
This makes sense and makes me happy & sad. Happy that the Blenny will be eating well and sad that maybe I REALLY need to get a Copperband for the Aiptasias issue... (although, would I run into the same issue?)
No shortcuts for aipstasia buddy you gotta go all out or nothing if you really want to reduce their population. Also are those fish QT? Cause thats asking for more trouble lol
I had two of them talbots damsel in my redsea reefer 250. They killed every fish i put in the reef after them, so no there is no such thing as a kind damsel
Yeah I used 6 in the 17g and they finished off the Aiptasias very nicely. They all starved though once I ran out and was in the process of getting more aiptasias locally (went 3 days without and the nudis didn't make it). Careful if you have Shrimp or Wrasse in your system though, as they may prey on the nudi.
Maybe it will be a good idea for future fish and Crabs to put a piece of rock that has bubble-hair algae, aptasia in the acclamation box. With limited amounts of food so you can see if that crab/fish will eat whatever pest, algae your dealing with?
I like this idea.
One of my favorite reefing channels. I absolutely love your name too. Lol
Not sure if you remember me, but I'm the one who told about this fish a few years ago!!! Awesome to see you get one!

I loved my Molly blenny. Really took care of aiptasia!
Good job man! I love watching your channel! Keep it up!
Your videos remind me of myself and all the situations I get into in my own tank 😂
Definitely gotta look into getting one of these little guys for my aipista problem 😭 great video man!
Your tank is starting to look really nice.
Great video, very interesting. Keep up the great work @inappropriatreefer and your wife.
Thank you Giant! ;-)

The tank is really coming along. You have a very good balance I colorful fish. I think the only thing missing is some green.
Melanirus Wrasse? Or lots of green corals? (shouldn't be too difficult!)
Not a melinaris. They get big and will destroy inverts. Maybe a captive bred target mandarin.
I love the blenny!
The Wrasse at the beginning of the video is a Red Fin Fairy Wrasse, they're beautiful fish.
Looking forward to seeing how this works out
many blennies are dog puppy freindly - my starry and sailfin both was just sitting on my hand and letting me tuch them. So cute
Hell yeah!

Good luck! I've had my Molly Miller Blenny for over 3 years. Never touched an aiptasia. lol. My Copperband butterfly eliminated all my aiptasia in less than a week.
😭 Did you have any issue with your Copperband picking at corals/clam?

Curious about your Copperband... did it bother any of your corals or clam (if any?)
They are called ruby red fairy wrasse I picked one up last week the males are absolutely beautiful when they mature
Thanks for the ID, I googled their adult male color and yep, beautiful fish!

Thanks for sharing your experience, someone mentioned nipping as well. I will keep a close eyes on this guy!

Did the blenny take care of the aiptasia issue...looking into getting one
they are very hardy and i always got them while fishing, but my experience is that they will start to stop working when you start to feed them pellets

Haha the little jawfish has already proved to be quite a little character!!
Looks like a Lawnmower belleni. How can you tell the difference? My Cherub Angel eats baby aiptasia.
where did you ge the mesh top from ?
