      That would be one hell of a duo!
      I'm not sure what they intend to do if they miss on the 1st OA pick but I think adding top 6 size with Lindstrom or a big top pair 2 way D in Dickinson or Levshunov seems like the appropriate way to go no ?

    • @TheFlizash
      @TheFlizash Місяць тому +1

      @bluechipprospect I feel Lindstrom is more likely. They have so many young decent D-men in the system. But none are Top pair worthy in my eyes. They lucked out with Vlasic. He's a beast. The team needs some more "nasty". So maybe Silayev?
      I still think Lindstrom is the pick if they don't win the lottery again.

    Hey, great video as always. Can you make a video or podcast on how to spot signs of untapped potential and/or busts. I've been fascinated by cases like Yakupov, Point, Pastrnak, Boston's 2015 1st round choices...
    Especially Kucherov. I've followed highly touted Russian prospects over the years, but Kucherov came out of nowhere for me. He was supposed to be good but not Hart and playoff scoring leader good. How did the teams miss him? Were there any signs?

    alot of scouting reports say below average skating, from what I see I think his skating is great cause it complements his vision playmaking IQ and his creativity for him to see his options at a high speed rate. Sure he may need to put on some muscle but I love the reports saying his work ethic on and off the ice is what makes him great and he is willing to play the corners and be in front of the net, at 5'11 descent height will get stronger as he develops but man this will be a privilege to have him on the blackhawks

    • @s.b.3275
      @s.b.3275 Місяць тому +1

      They said Lane Hutson had below average skating and didn't seem to be bothered by it when he was manipulating play in Detroit's end last 2 games. If a player has elite edge work and elite hands, he can get away with not having blazing speed in a straight line.

      You need a top notch defenseman. You have good D in the pipeline, but not great. You can't compete without a bonafide #1 defenseman in this league, just look at the playoffs, every single team that passed the first round has a bonafide #1 defenseman. Anaheim should be drafting Dickinson, Levshunov, Silayev or Buium. Personally I'd go for one of Dickinson or Levshunov. Can't produce offensively if you can't move the puck out of your zone and if you want to be able to outplay top offensive lines, you need elite D. Best years in Anaheim was when they had Niedermayer and Pronger and they should look to replicate that.

    Great breakdown. It seems like anyone in the top 5 last year who passed on Michkov will probably pass on Demidov…except maybe Chicago.

    • @bajjanitor
      @bajjanitor 2 місяці тому +5

      I think it's a vastly different situation because Michkov had 3 more years on his KHL contract when he was drafted compared to the 1 year that Demidov will have. Michkov was pretty standoffish with some teams as well, which we have no reason to believe Demidov will be.

      Thanks !
      I think the situation is a little bit different though.
      The contract thing, the supposedly bad attitude thing, the fact that he even refused to talk to some teams, his father's suspicious death a month before the draft and the lack of any compete from the neutral zone to the defensive zone are all things that played against him.
      They Might pass on him anyway but it's different

    I would love Demidov on the habs I yhink he's the type of linedriver we miss.
    Catton looks reslly good though but he's smaller, Lindstrom is big but was injured. Eiserman droppes in rankings but he's still a fantastic scorer. Helenius is not flashy but he has a real good season. There are many question mark on all forwards after Celebrini and that means we will be able to land one of them.
    Demidov did not get much viewing outside Russia and didn't play against men.
    However Bobrov seems to know and like him.
    I am hoping the defensemen are out in the top 5. For me, Dickinson and Levshunov are studs that should be out in the top 5. Then Silayev could or Buuium (big fan of him). Anaheim needs defense after the Drysdale trade, Chicago needs too. Columbus I also see them taking a franchose defenseman. Only the sharks will need everything but I see them drafting Celebrini anyway.

    • @s.b.3275
      @s.b.3275 Місяць тому

      @@chriswegner9943none of those project as #1 D so yeah ducks need defenseman. It's not about quantity, but quality when it comes to prospects. Ducks would be insane not to draft one of the top 4 D this year, especially a guy like Dickinson who has all the tools to become a top pairing defenseman in the NHL. Levshunov is a close second because ducks are weaker on the right. You can't just look at details, you have to look at the bigger picture. Can't be an elite team in the league without a true #1 defenseman. That's always been a factor since the damn of professional hockey. Every top team has had a top 10 defenseman in this league, you just can't compete without those guys.

      I'm pretty consistent in the way I talk about ceilings and expectations. The only players I'll say are 100+ points ceilings are players like McDavid, Bedard, McKenna in 2026... Clear cut superstar 1st overall type players. Everyone else I'll refer to PPG or 80-90 points players.
      It's not that I don't believe they can reach that type of production, it's about projecting a ceiling with a reasonably high chance to reach it.
      I hope that helps you understand my train of thought.

      That's what I like the most about his game, that he actually seems to care about defense and that's probably his most translatable skill while everyone looks at his offensive game, which he gets away with a lot of plays that won't translate to the pro game. Is offensive game is slightly overrated because he plays MHL while is D game is way underrated. If he becomes an impact player in the NHL, it'll be because he becomes a solid two way player, not a one dimensional, offense first player. People comparing him to Kucherov and Kaprizov are way off. He needs to base his game more on players like Datsyuk and Larionov to become an elite player in the NHL.

    Great video, as always.
    However, I don't see any chance him, Michkov, Nikishin, or any other Russian top prospect coming to North America any time soon. Back in 1989, the relationship between USSR and the West was much better than it currently is - yet Mogilny still had to defect to join the Sabres...
    Imo, the only team that can afford drafting Demidov is Chicago, as they already have Bedard and are also an attractive market for UFAs - meaning, they would be just fine in a couple of years even if Demidov never leaves Russia

      Chicago doesn't have anybody to play with Bedard, and they need to please their superstar. Demidov is just a few months younger than Bedard so if he's picked they will play together for next 10-15 years, another Towes - Kane combination with probably even more talent. And given more and more experts call Demidov the 2nd best player of the draft, it's hard to imagine the Hawks pass on him. Of course if Chicago picks 1st OA then yeah, Demidov can slip to Montreal because teams like Sharks, Columbus, Anaheim have a lot of good/great young forwards and not that many defenders.

      😆 for his draft year... Everyone born from September to December would be considered a late or on the older side.
      Yakemchuk for exemple is days away from being eligible for last year's draft because of his September birthday. On the other hand, Eiserman being an august birthday is one of the youngest.
      That's what I meant by old lol

  • @s.b.3275
    @s.b.3275 Місяць тому

    It's really hard to project a player when he's playing in a lower league. If he's playing in the KHL and doing none of that, where does he get drafted? Good compete, great hands, great vision, but in the MHL. How would the other top prospects do in the MHL? Catton was almost 2 points per game player in the WHL, Celebrini lit up the NCAA, Levshunov was nearly a point per game player in NCAA and a physical force against older players, Buium broke scoring records as a 17-18 year old rookie in the NCAA, Dickinson is playing 30 minutes a game on probably the best team in junior and a major reason why they are the best team, Silayev is playing important minutes against good competition in the KHL, Helenius had amazing production as a 17 year old in liiga, nobody scored more goals then Eiserman this year and Lindstrom was scoring nearly a goal per game in the WHL. These guys are all easier to project. I love how Demidov plays, i love that he as an edge but doing it in the MHL? That's a serious red flag for me especially on a year with so many highly touted prospects. If i was rebuilding, I'd pick a D. Demidov would be a good pick for team like Columbus, Utah, Ottawa or Seattle. Teams that on paper seem do be at the twilight of there rebuilds and need to hit a home run, but teams like Anaheim, Chicago and Montreal, who are still looking for building blocks should be looking more for someone who's game is highly translatable and easier to predict. You can't go gambling when you're trying to build a contender.

  • @s.b.3275
    @s.b.3275 Місяць тому

    I'll put this out because everyone is trying to compare with random players that didn't even play or skate like Demidov or don't look anything like Demidov. Best comparison is Pavel Datsyuk if Demidov pans out. Good defensively, not overly physical, but will play with an edge if he has to, solid puck touches, flip passes, goes through whole defenses, magician with the puck on his stick, solid edge work, not the fastest in a straight line but decent bursts of speed to create seperation, good stick, good stick lifts, solid at taking pucks off of players, sound positionally in both offensive and defensive zone. If he pans out i see him having Datsyuk like numbers and Datsyuk like impact. Anyone comparing him to Kucherov or any other player not named Datsyuk is way off.
