I remember doing the same to Bruz for what he did. I purposely went after him until he was level 1 and accidentally killed him with poison. Afterwards, the bloody Olog would continuously cheat death and ambush me constantly with the only words ringing into my ears being:
"It's your fort, just take the bloody fort"
This would go on for an eternity until finally Zog made him an undead where I finally finished him off with a final: "It's your fort!"

I destroyed bruz' mind over and over until he was level 1 then had him kill me til he got level 65. Then shame him again til he was back at level 1. Then kill me again. Now he's my overlord

My advise but no guarantees to avoid betrayals. This is MY EXPERIENCE.
1) Don’t level them to your same level. Keep them 2 levels down. 1 is fine but just for reassurance 2 is best.
2) Don’t kill their blood brother. Either recruit (whether useless or not) or shame. If useless, send them to any fighting pit to die.
3) Don’t attack/hit them several/many times when they’re your ally.
4) Give some orders to them to do stuff. Not everyone but just a few or some Captains are enough.
5) Don’t die. At least, not too many times. You may respawn many times over but they’ll see that as weakness. Orks/Orcs follow strength.
6) Don’t let your fellow Captains “Bled Out”. Revive them as much as possible.
7) Try not to let too many of your Captains die. Heavy casualties shows poor leadership & that you don’t care about them.
8) Avoid running away from Captains when fighting. At least, a few or some but don’t do it too many times. They think it’s cowardice rather than it being a tactical retreat. In other words, don’t try to leave the battlefield at least.
For example, you can be near the outpost/fortress but don’t go too far after you’ve encountered them.
9) Honor your death threats. Avoiding to kill a Captain that you have a death threat to will be seen as dishonor. Another cowardice act. Meaning don’t take too long to kill him.
10) Shame to help reduce betrayals. Keeps your followers in line & loyal to you. Avoid doing it too much. Do it from time to time.

Why do so many people feel bad about shaming these guys. Gameplay wise it's a strategy. Lore wise it's justice for all the people orcs have slain, enslaved and outright murdered for pleasure.

Shadow of mordor was so easy that I couldn't have a nemesis. I branded everyone and killed them. I hope if I get this game I'll actually enjoy it since I found SOM pretty boring due to the difficulty. I wasn't able to experience the nemesis system and grow attached to anyone making it pointless.

SomeRandomViewer I got this game yesterday for my birthday and it's ten times better than SoM. I'm only level 16, so I don't know if it stays like this throughout the whole game, but you will be easily overwhelmed and you can barely fight one captain, and if there are two you have to run.
SomeRandomViewer I play this game on Nemesis difficulty and it’s a lot harder than the first game was. I recommend it.

Yes, they become Captains, I've found it makes for an interesting captain if you let a slave orc kill you; they have more of an interesting backstory.

I have shamed a dude like this a few times, they often die before I'm done because they end up so weak and they gain mortal weaknesses it gets hard not to accidentally kill them or to not let something else kill them
If someone betrayed me I would love to shame them for eternity as they slowly get more and more insane a fate worse than death.

ok then I tell you
when you go into the final battle one of the ringwraiths face you at the end and you dominate him, his ring fell down and you start to arguing with cerebrimbor because he wanted to enslave him.
you realize that cerebrimbor's goal isn't just to defeat sauron but he want to take his place, so he leave you behind by giving your ring to the blone assassin girl (don't remember her name), and you start to dying as they leave you there to face sauron.
while you dying shelob visit you trough a vision and tell you what would happended if you would stay with cerebrimbor (it would ended with celebrimbor's victory), and ask you what would you sacrifise to hold back the forces of evil and tell you to open you eyes.
then talion look at the ring what the nazgul dropped and after a little hesitation he puts it on and BOOM
