Coming across one of your videos is like finding a small, ripe blueberry patch in the mountains. So fresh and tasty and always bringing a smile to my face. Thank you Taylor !!
Caps Ridge is probably the best bang for the buck in the Whites. With it's high starting elevation you are above treeline fairly quickly and the views are superb. We did it years ago and despite it being tough it's one of my favorite trails in NH. Enjoy the channel. Keep up the good work! Keep on 4-wheelin' Kali.
Loved Jefferson. Longer, harder, more beautiful than it first appears. Secrets about the mountain, spirits of nature, forces connecting the inner workings of people to trees, the ground, standing water puddles, roots of trees, bark types and textures, animal trails, habits of the wind, the communication between trees, ways to expand a person's range of psychic unity to the landscape, and utterances of divine origin from the environment, can be sensed there. I probably missed a few other types of secrets, too, in this list. I also appreciated your pace shown on this hike.
Man, you had great weather! Years ago a friend and I climbed Jefferson on a crappy day. Started up Caps Ridge Trail then traversed across the Links Trail (post holing in old snow all the way) and climbed the Castle Trail to the summit, where there was no view. We descended the Caps Trail in a light drizzle, and realized it would’ve made more sense to go up it than down it! Killer hike. Great to finally see the views, thanks to your video!
I hiked that trail a long time ago, and it was pretty tough, but it's the exposure to the elements that make it challenging. I did it on a warm-ish fall day in the 1980s. I would get sweaty, and then the wind would come up and freeze me. When I got down, I had a bad sun/wind burn. No doubt that, if I did it now, approaching 70, it would be Wicked Hahd! 😉 Thanks.
I will take this hike out of my bucket. You are tougher than me! Kali did great too! I enjoyed watching this one with the beautiful natural scenery. Thanks for sharing.
Its great to see someone love the Whites as much as I do. Liked your video. Jefferson is one of my favorites. I'll be checking out more of your videos definitely.
I hit the Like button right at the opening with you and Kali. You light up the room and she is such a sweetheart. Amazing how she can find a mud hole within 5 minutes of starting the trail.
Did Caps Ridge Trail via the Link August 2022. Unfortunately, probably my last hike in the presidential/Whites, as the trip down induced eventual sciatica pain where hiking to that extent/extreme no longer seems feasible. Had not too much problem going up, but the going down was constant "controlled falling" - i.e., fighting gravity, where one either slips, or, just pure downward shock reverbarates up your spine. At age 62, I really hate to leave this behind, as my 20 year old heart is still in the mountains, but the 62 year old body says otherwise.
Kali is a hiking machine! Reminded me of PR (Katie's dog from Maine). That looks like the hard way up Jefferson, you rock! Thanks for sharing the hike!
Excellent video. I used to pick Caps Ridge as an easy route to a 5000 fot peak because it starts from the highest altitute trailhead in NH, more than half the elevation between sea level and the summit, but, you are right, it is a very demanding hike despite the high elevation start.
It's a really good deal because of that high elevation trailhead! A quick hike with some of the best views. Although.... I did get a flat tire on Jefferson Notch Rd the first time I drove up there haha
Such a cute dog. Not sure if my 8 year old Jack Russel would be able to handle the hike. I can’t believe how you hike fo 4 hours and the go to work. Totally different world you live in. When borders are open I’m definitely coming down to NH for this hike. Keep up the great vids.
I can relate to what you said about "no matter how far you walk, it just keeps getting farther away." The first couple of times I hiked Old Rag Mt. in Shenandoah NP (Virginia), the false summits kept fooling me into thinking I was at the top. No dice. But it makes it that much more satisfying when you do actually reach the summit.
I've been up Old Rag. I don't recall the false summits, but it's a good climb. Mt. Algonquin in the Adirondacks has a lot of false peaks. I was in a hurry on that hike, the the repeated false peak drove me crazy....
New sub here. Awesome video, I look forward to more!!!! I’ve hiked several summits in Colorado, and you’re absolutely correct, the summits move further away with every step!
@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker Your dog is amazing in that she drops down into a puddle right away to cool off. My dog just smells the water and walks past, still panting and hot. :)
I got on the nuun tablets because of you!! the lemonade is my favorite 😂 I love that it keeps you hydrated but also feels like I have something more fun than just plain water to drink
A few years ago my buddies and I were backpaking up in New Hampshire for the very first time. On our last day of the trip we were hoping to summit Mount Washington as a final hurrah but due to 80 mph winds on the summit, we decided to pass. We took Cap Ridge down off Mount Jefferson. It was a difficult trail going down, especially since we were tired but it was still really beautiful and had some nice views!
Awesome video as always! Gives me FOMO -- I wish I were able to get up to the Whites as often as you can living there. A big congrats to Kali -- she'll get her doggy 48 patch soon! Also, I see you're checking off the Terrifying 25. I predict that when you get to 24, you'll do Huntington Ravine after all -- but without Kali ;)
Crazy! Last week you would have been going up there in boots and spikes with winter layers. I hiked last week and also yesterday. I think the temp difference was 37 degrees between last week to this week. Yesterday was an amazing day to be in the Whites in almost mid Nov👍
I couldn't believe it was mid-november up there! My mind was blown with how nice it was. I fully expected to do this hike in the snow when I planned it about a week ago. I had spikes and winter layers in my pack and everything haha. But I am dying to see some snow soon, and I'm sure Kali is too.
Great content Taylor. Love it. Gives me so many ideas. I remember you said that you were going to do the Presidential Traverse all at once at some point correct? I want to do that. Also, if you had continued on to the left towards MT. Washington how far would that have been. SO many questions, but will save some for each blog to spread them out. I can't wait for a few of your winter hikes especially gear related. Thank you. Excited to have your videos come out. Thank you very much
Thanks! I really want to do a presidential traverse, but it's hard logistically getting back to my car afterwards. And now the days are getting short. It'll probably have to wait until next year, along with the pemi loop
Hi Taylor, I hiked the Hancocks the day before what amazing weather you had in NH. I drove from Albany NY. I’ve hiked Jefferson from Rt 2 Appalachia. That is the first time I ever got leg cramps, that trail is brutal. Have you ever gone up that way?
Is it truly a Nahamsha hiking video if Kali doesn't sit and swim in mud for ten minutes? That's the real question! Also your computer and light up keyboard are freaking sick!
She could find a mud puddle on the driest of hikes haha. And thanks! That computer set-up was my quarantine project back in May. There's quite the RGB competition between me and my bf to see how many we can put in each of our home offices. It's getting out of hand hahah
Yeah the blazes were really faded and hard to see. And there are so many paths going every which way around the hard parts. It definitely got confusing at times.
Howdy!! My name is Angie ( 🐢) Was wondering if there is a way I can DM you. I have some questions about the whites. I will be passing thru them via the AT. Hopefully next year... This year was a bust as we all know but I'm hoping to get out there next year and I really need to talk to someone who knows them. Thanks!!

Love watching the dog hiking videos, your pretty alright to watch also. Lol. You seem to be more related in the last few videos with Callie.
So funny how into snow Kali is! Thanks for the video.
I was hoping the whole mountain would be covered in snow for Kali to enjoy. But our weekend of 70 degree weather changed that plan quickly haha
What a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing
Kali in that tiny patch of snow was adorable!!!

another great hiking video! Rocky trails like that are no joke. After a few days of trails like that in the Ozarks my brand new Altra's were toast.
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you. Blessings
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice panoramic views, a cute li'l dog, & your smile certainly brightens any day!!

Good thing I don't use trekking poles too haha

Hi! I'm not sure if they are in stock anymore. I'll check on that tomorrow and will update the link if they're available!

3 people at the summit and passed 3 people on trail! It was great
