How did those two compare to the Hard Truth Double Oak you both liked so much last week? I purchased the Hard Truth on Friday. Definitely picked out the stone fruit note. I thought pear. But I get apricot. Interested to hear which Trenton liked more?
Not going to spend $99 on a rye, but I found Old Overholt 114 proof rye at Binny's for $19.99, it's great to me for the price. Another rye I got on sale, Alberta Premium Cask strength rye using Canadian rye, normally $65.99, picked it up at Binny's for $29.99. Like it so much, I now have 3 bottles.
The bottle that really got me into Rye's was the 2020 Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye. I finally got my hands on the latest edition last week. I sampled them side by side last night. The latest drank a little hotter as it was only open for about an hour before sampling. The later one tasted a little richer. I will go back in a couple weeks and try them again. I do like the Sagamore Double Oaked and Cedar Ridge's BiB. For my "daily", generally with a few ice cubes is Wild Turkey 101. I also enjoy bourbons, Irish, and American Single Malts.

I’ve been into ryes more and more the past couple months. Trenton got me on with some of his recommendations… like pikesville, and new riff single barrel rye, some others I’ve been enjoying the old overholt 10 and the A. overholt (still waiting for you guys to review that one) Jack Daniel’s single barrel barrel proof rye. I went on a rye spree my last outing hunting. Love what you guys do and keep the ryes coming! ❤
My favorite rye has been the Limousin limited edition. It’s MGP rye, 10 years old, about 127 proof, and costs $60. Don’t sleep on it if you see it, that thing is an absolute monster.

I completely agree with your enthusiasm about Sagamore Spirits! I think the 9 year is one of the best ryes I've ever had. The 8-year was amazing too. I think I would lose my mind if they ever released a 10-year. I thought the Overholt 11-year was good. I'm glad I have it, but I don't think it measures up to the 9-year Sagamore.
I have definitely been drinking and trying more rye lately. I also have a big sagamore collection. I tried the 9 year at a recent whiskey tasting and it is amazing. The 8 year was my previous favorite along with the BiB. Another great video guys.

The wife and I are fairly new to the bourbon experience, about a year into it. But funny you would mention people are starting to look at rye whiskey more. We have just started buying a few bottles. Kirt I never thought I’d hear someone else give a “root beer” note to a rye. I get a very nice Barks Root Beer note from Sagamore rye double oak and when I said that to my buddies while we were trying it, it was all they could get. And it is a fabulous note if you can get it.
I got that 9 year for $69.99 by me, went to the next store and they had the 8 year batch 2a for 69.99 as well. Glad living in Maryland pays off for scoring Sagamore. The 6 year BiB is fantastic as well. Tastes like bubblegum and leather baseball mitt.
I just got into Ryes a little bit more (maybe because of the season changing), but I have been loving the Overholt 11, Bulleit 12 year, and the JD SB BP Rye. They are freakin tasty!
I love Ryes. So glad to see so many good bottles coming out. In my journey Rye has been my top favorite. I love Scotch, Bourbon, Wheaters for sure too. But something about every rye I try just makes me love it the most. Whether it’s a straight bitey rye or a bourbon friendly rye I love them all.
About 2 months ago baught my 1st bottle of Still Austin Cask strength Rye, FANTASTIC! it's all I want to drink now, everything else is boring. The regular is nice but the lower proof diminishes all the flavors still nice but the Cask Strength just lingers

But of those I've had, three stand out (alas, they also have a big impact on the budget): Sagamore Spirit Cask Strength Sagamore Spirit Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye Sagamore Spirit has the prettiest bottles in the business. 😍 Jim Beam is now producing an Old Overholt Monongahela rye, which has much more rye in it than the other Overholts. KC of @Beautiful Bourbon likes it. 3:57 Kurt's pronouncing "root beer" correctly. And it's crick. 🙂
I’ve always liked rye since I started drinking whiskey, one of the first bottles I ever purchased with my own money was Jim Beam Rye Pre-Prohibition Style and really liked it, not even sure if they still make that.
I’ve definitely been buying a lot more ryes this year. Dancing Goat’s 10yr LE finished rye out of Wisconsin was awesome. Also have been enjoying JD SBBP rye this year. I’ll have to pick up some Sagamore.
Going into my whiskey journey, I wasn't into Ryes initially. Trent convinced me about trying some, specifically ones that Kurt would also like. Now, I'm buying way more ryes than bourbons, with the game changers being Old Overholt 10 year released last year, Sagamore, Pikeville and New Riff. I still need to find that deal that Trent got on the Alberta Premium Rye, because that is an absolute adventure of a pour.

I like both rye and bourbon, but I’m definitely more into rye than bourbon. Rye just has a bolder flavor than bourbon. One of the best things about rye was that during the bourbon boom it was easier to find allocated ryes, so I’ve been fortunate to pick up some pretty special bottles over the years for reasonable prices. Like Rye. Bulleit Rye is my whiskey of choice mainly for value reasons. But spending time in northern GA (live in Chicago) and trying Chattanooga Whiskey Straight Rye Malt. While it costs a little more than Bulleit (about $15 more for 750 ml bottle) like it very much! Worth the extra $. Love SLB!
Nephew gave me a bottle of Whistle Pig 10 for Christmas couple of years back. Mostly enjoying the rye trip since then but you’re right, there’s a tremendous variety of ryes out there and not all are worth appreciating.
I like them all mostly. I'm not a rum finish guy either though I do like rum. But I do like rye's a bit more than bourbon but it's almost a coin flip. Two of my favorite rye's are Rare breed rye and Redwood empire cask strength both available and doesn't break the bank. Enjoy🥃🥃🥃
For the Rye I have an 8 year barrel pick from Driftless Glen that came in at 135 proof that was one of the best pours I have ever had! Tried their standard 8 year barrel proof and it wasn’t even close. Apparently the one I bought was stored in a smaller barrel to age.
Picked up both of these 2 weeks ago. Bought 2 of the 9 Years at Sagamore Distillery. Need to blind it against the 8 year which has been my favorite Sagamore so far. Have 2 Sherry but can get more. Have 6 Rum cask but cannot get more. Wish I had some of the Sagamore BiB 4 yr left to blind against the Sag BiB 5 year. The OOH11 is good but the 10yr was a little better as was the price.

Rye whiskey fan here. But have to call out Trenton on "there's only so much you can do with Bourbon". Chattanooga Whiskey with their Tenessee High Malt have created a truly unique and innovative style of Bourbon!
Last time I visited Sagamore I was told that they contract distilled with MGP from 2013-2017. After they started operating their own still, they ended the contract distillation. According to them "None of our whiskey is/was 'sourced', it was all contracted for Sagamore."
I love the Old Overholt 10-year and find this 11-year an easier drink at the lower proof from last year's release. I prefer the 10-year at the 121 proof but appreciate and enjoy this 11-year. I find both the 10 and the 11 worth the price. As for Sagamore, the 8-year was fantastic and would love to get my hand s on another (I failed to buy a backup before they vanished). I am still looking for the 9-year! As for my top Rye whiskeys for the year, I have to put Hard Truth Sweet Mash Barrel Proof (30 barrels) 117.6 (mash bill RW1) high on my list! There is a single barrel Liquor Bueno store pick of the same mash bill at 126.1 proof that is simply OMG amazing! I also have to add Frey Ranch 100-proof Rye to my top Rey list! Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel proof Rye is absolutely in my top 5 list!
Somewhere along the way I got it into my head that I didn’t like rye. So I avoided for quite a while. Now I’ve got to the point where I prefer rye to a lot of the bourbon I own. I have to see if I can find these.
I wonder how old the Sagamore distilled rye whiskey is now. The 8yr and this years 9yr is still sourced from R&S. I have had their own rye whiskey and it was great.
This channel is fantastic. You are both knowledgable and super nice guys….very relatable. But so much time is spent on smelling the stuff. What i dont get is the smell often does not translate to the taste. To me its all about the taste….am i the only one that thinks this way?

I'm a rye guy, A 115 proof Minor Case Pick is my last buy. I have an Old Overholt 10 which is delicious (the bottle is almost empty so it must be) I need to revisit my 3 bottles of Sagamore. I remember I wasn't overly impressed with them. I have experienced a few exceptional bottles of Rittenhouse but the last half dozen bottles I have bought haven't lived up the the ones from 3 or 4 years ago. Probably my favorite Rye is from Driftless Glen. Single barrel of course.
I have both of these and the Overholt isn’t my fav. Not bad but pretty average. The Sag is ridiculously good! Huge sweet oak bomb. Soooo good. Had to go get a backup bottle immediately
I recommend that you try Knobel Rye (Mike Rowe's "house" brand) and Emerald Giant Cask Strength rye (from Redwood Empire). I really like them both! :-)
I have Sagamore DO and New Riff 6yr malted rye. I love them. I also really like Rittenhouse and Pikesville. To me, they all taste so different. I’ve had some other Ryes I don’t like at all. I can’t figure it out. You guys are great. 🥃
Has anyone else had the Sagamore tequila cask finished rye? It's finished in used extra añejo tequila casks. I bought one probably a year ago and have never seen it again. It's a Distillers Select.
What's your favorite rye for a sazerac? At what point do you feel bad for using an expensive rye as a mixer? I tried one with Michter's and it was the best I'd ever had. Still felt a bit guilty.
I wonder how this year's Old Overholt 11 compares to last year's 10. I got it before and while it was good, I landed a Parker's 10 on the same day. That didn't do it any favors.

Just bought a Limousin Rye (10 year, 64.7 abv, approx $55) from Dancing Goat Distillery. Absolutely outstanding! Can't beat the price to value.

Grabbed a Sag9 the other day at TW when they had one back in stock, easily the best for the money outside of JD SBBP Rye.

I love sazerac rye but also haven’t tried any others to compare. It’s pretty easy to find. Actually just picked up a bottle at Costco for $22

Old Overholt 10yr cask is legit. Really hope Beam makes this a yearly release.

For most of this year rye has been a go to, I have 2 Sagamores, but recently came back from Colorado, and Stranahan single malts are very good.
I'm a Double Oak Sagamore guy. Delicious and perfect in all my Rye cocktails.

Standard Old OverHolt is a great starter rye. Taste just like marble rye bread 🍞

Please do catoctin creek barrel proof rye. Or even their regular rye. I would be curious on what you think about this Virginia product.
Just got into ryes. Sagamore 9 and Bardstown single barrels are probably my favorite. Also Pursuit DO rye.

Rye is all I’ve been drinking here lately for the most part Sagamore double oak rye / Pikesville straight rye / Peerless double oak rye
I love the Old Overholt 10-year and find this 11-year an easier drink at the lower proof from last year's release. I prefer the 10-year at the 121 proof but appreciate and enjoy this 11-year. I find both the 10 and the 11 worth the price. As for Sagamore, the 8-year was fantastic and would love to get my hand s on another (I failed to buy a backup before they vanished). I am still looking for the 9-year!
As for my top Rye whiskeys for the year, I have to put Hard Truth Sweet Mash Barrel Proof (30 barrels) 117.6 (mash bill RW1) high on my list! There is a single barrel Liquor Bueno store pick of the same mash bill at 126.1 proof that is simply OMG amazing! I also have to add Frey Ranch 100-proof Rye to my top Rey list! Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel proof Rye is absolutely in my top 5 list!
I find myself buying ryes more often now. Picked up the new Sagamore 9 year this weekend for $65. Soooooo goood.

Somewhere along the way I got it into my head that I didn’t like rye. So I avoided for quite a while. Now I’ve got to the point where I prefer rye to a lot of the bourbon I own. I have to see if I can find these.

I wonder how old the Sagamore distilled rye whiskey is now. The 8yr and this years 9yr is still sourced from R&S. I have had their own rye whiskey and it was great.

This channel is fantastic. You are both knowledgable and super nice guys….very relatable. But so much time is spent on smelling the stuff. What i dont get is the smell often does not translate to the taste. To me its all about the taste….am i the only one that thinks this way?

You guys should do a 100ish proof beam blind. Knob 9, knob 12, ogd bonded, ogd 18 year, overholt bonded, old tub, maybe bakers 7, etc.

I picked up a Bakers 7 high Rye limited edition today. I didn't even know that was a thing.
I'm a rye guy, A 115 proof Minor Case Pick is my last buy. I have an Old Overholt 10 which is delicious (the bottle is almost empty so it must be) I need to revisit my 3 bottles of Sagamore. I remember I wasn't overly impressed with them. I have experienced a few exceptional bottles of Rittenhouse but the last half dozen bottles I have bought haven't lived up the the ones from 3 or 4 years ago. Probably my favorite Rye is from Driftless Glen. Single barrel of course.
Haven’t been a fan of most Ryes to many going for the spice and burn but these two sound much more refined and smooth yes I said it 😂

I have both of these and the Overholt isn’t my fav. Not bad but pretty average. The Sag is ridiculously good! Huge sweet oak bomb. Soooo good. Had to go get a backup bottle immediately
Angels Envy's rum finish is a good one.
Sagamore is dropping a triple cask finish (think cigar blend...kind of) in Maryland very soon. I have a feeling that may be in the running.
I recommend that you try Knobel Rye (Mike Rowe's "house" brand) and Emerald Giant Cask Strength rye (from Redwood Empire). I really like them both! :-)
I have Sagamore DO and New Riff 6yr malted rye.
I love them. I also really like Rittenhouse and Pikesville. To me, they all taste so different. I’ve had some other Ryes I don’t like at all. I can’t figure it out. You guys are great. 🥃

Has anyone else had the Sagamore tequila cask finished rye? It's finished in used extra añejo tequila casks. I bought one probably a year ago and have never seen it again. It's a Distillers Select.
Scored the 2024 The Van Winkle family reserve. It was was very good.
I for sure have been wow’d a lot more often by Ryes this year than bourbons. I agree with Trenton, they more frequently just have more flavor overall.

Tried the New Riff Biscuit Malt Rye release last week. Have you guys tried? I was a little disappointed and like their 6 year malted Rye much better.
What's your favorite rye for a sazerac? At what point do you feel bad for using an expensive rye as a mixer? I tried one with Michter's and it was the best I'd ever had. Still felt a bit guilty.
I wonder how this year's Old Overholt 11 compares to last year's 10. I got it before and while it was good, I landed a Parker's 10 on the same day. That didn't do it any favors.
