You guys need to do a Bakers 13, Widow Jane 13, Wild Turkey 13, Blue Run 13, and Russel's 13 blind!!! Battle of the 13's!!
Save this for December. The chance was missed this month but December also has a Friday the 13th
And throw in ecbp c923 which is 13 years old!
All over priced and over hiped bourbon
@@anthonyvella2787 🤡
@@anthonyvella2787so you weren’t able to get any
Ecstatic y'all chose Russell 15. I was lucky enough to get the last bottle at an allocation drop this last Saturday and can't wait to open it. Even more so after it winning this blind. Hopefully this fellow Hoosier loves it just as much!
“TV static in a pour” is the best tasting note I’ve heard this month. Props. 😂
Love hearing people say Pappy is an overated bottle. I spent so much time chasing buffalo trace products and, while they are good, there is so much better out there for cheaper.
You should have put a unknown spoiler in this blind,Like Makers Mark Cellar aged or something else that people think are close companions
i live in dc. you should see what ppl pay for base pappy & blantons (375 & 130). can get great barrel picks if you know people, but goodness prices are absurd.
At secondary, absolutely. But if you can get pappy anywhere close to MSRP it's still phenomenal.
Knob - any age, 9, 12, single barrel .. they always do well in blinds for me. They have bold flavors and stand out when compared to other bottles.
Knobs are absolute hitters at every level. Ryes as well.
Couldn't agree more and old forester products as well the 1920 1910 and 100 proof also win a lot of blinds for me. I have a store pick knob 9 private barrel that I woulda bought the whole barrel myself if I could
@@kylehaun8192 just skip the 1870 on that whiskey row series
I know many will disagree BUT I think for the price that the Dickel 15 is a solid pour!!! It's underappreciated in my opinion!
I like not guessing what you're drinking. Enjoying what you are having at the moment is why enjoy your content.
(Kurt - 3, Trent - 2) Knob Creek 15 Year
(Kurt - 4, Trent - 5) Widow Jane The Vaults
(Kurt - 5, Trent - 4) Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve
(Kurt - 6, Trent - 6) Calumet Farm
(Kurt - 2, Trent - 3) Barrell 15 Year
(Kurt - 1, Trent - 1) Russel's Reserve 15 Year
Thanks! Now i don’t know to watch the video.
I like it when you have no idea what’s in the blind. Love the show guys!
My calumet 15 was terrible at first, after several weeks. It became one of my best bottles
Just bought a Calumet 16 year, what a great bottle, and for $120, it was originally $150 when it first came out.
Pappy second to last is crazy 😂
RR15 at 1st is no surprise
You should blind a $10 bottle, $20, $30 … up to a $100 bottle and then see who can get the order most right of cheapest to most expensive
Great idea
I like it. Good idea
Good one.
A bottom shelf blind would be interesting.
that's such a good idea. It can't really happen, as, if the 100 bottle got beat by the 10, there'd be hell up
Calumet 15 coming in last was bewildering! The 16 yr is one of the best pours I've ever had.
The thing is, maybe more emphasis needs to be placed on batch #'s. I had the opposite take, 16 was really just meh forme.
The 15 was a complete fresh crack while the others have been opened for months if not years. I bet once it opens up after a few weeks it would be a contender.
Doesn't make it a bad pour..just some great pours you still need to try
You should do an “old school” day where you repeat a blind you did a year or more ago and compare your results. You could do OF, knob creek, Michters, etc. lineup
I like the dynamic of father and son . One trying to enjoy one trying to guess . No wrongs when buzzed father and son leave the video and goof around .🎉
Guesses are always fun, especially when you don't get them right!!
As always, Trenton's descriptions on what he's smelling and tasting (new fridge smell) are awesome.
Started carnivore based diet in January. Down 40LBS.. protein, apples and whiskey… very doable. Whiskey is now my dessert!!
Was going to do something like this… congrats on your loss!!
Russell's 15 is out of this world. I haven't had anything this year that comes close.
I like that trenton guesses and Kurt doesn't! The way they play off of each other is why this is so enjoyable to watch :) keep doing what you're doing, y'all
Smoked bone Marrow with some crispy garlic on Charred Rye bread paired with a rye whisky is EPIC
I like how Kurt shows jazz hands when he tastes a winner :)
Or does the eye roll!
I always enjoy watching y’alls videos. Thanks guys 👍
Agree with Kurt. Focus on flavors over what it is. Trying to figure out what it is may influence picks.
This highlights one of the things i love the most about this absurdly expensive hobby...hearing other people's takes on whiskeys you love. I haven't had the knob creek or the barrel, but i own the rest of these and would personally put the Calumet above them all...with RR15 coming in a close second.
Goes to show that you don't need to purchase hype bourbons
I still want an Eagle rare though🫠🤣
I remember about 2-3 years ago saying you should do a year battle. Battle of the 12 year, 16, 10… and do scotch, bourbon… all whiskey. Glad you finally did it. Nice video!!
You should keep the bottle images on screen as you go. When you guys go through with your rankings I never remember which class is A, B, C, etc.
I know it takes up a little on the screen but just a small image in a corner somewhere with the glass letters would be great. Help us follow along a lot better
came to say this exact thing. i usually remember a couple, but never all.
The music be putting me to sleep while I watch at work 🤣🤣
I love watching you guys. I have gained so much knowledge and tips on what to pursue and what to leave alone. I was lucky enough to have obtained a bottle of the Russell's 15 just a few days ago thanks to my lovely girlfriend finding out there was a drop about a half hour from us and running up to snatch the last bottle, as well as a Wild Turkey Triumph that was dropped also. (Did I say I have the best GF ever? Lol!) I was floored when I took the first nose of it. I am a novice when it comes to the whiskey/bourbon world compared to most, but this is without a doubt one of the best I've tasted. It's literally a party in your pallet. If I could find it again for the $260 price, I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Have only had the Russell's 10 and the Knob Creek 9 and 9 Single Barrel, love all of them, can't imagine how the 15's taste.
Started carnivore July 5th, down 28lbs...the bourbon sure hits different with no carbs! Enjoying the content as always.
You guys are awesome!! I won't ask again 😂😂
Would love a Willett core lineup blind with Noah’s, Rowan’s, old Bardstown etc
As always, loved the blind! When can we expect new SLB Tries videos??
Fellas, love the channel and everything I’ve learned watching you both. I have a blind suggestion. Same bourbons/whiskeys, same order but done SEPARATELY away from each other and then a final reveal when the blind is concluded. I’d enjoy seeing your individual tasting notes and selections without knowing what the other is saying about each glass. Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Lee Guzinski
Love the video. Bourbon DOES age in the bottle. Aging in barrels consists of wood mixing with bourbon (first few years), evaporation which concentrates non-volatile components of the bourbon, and oxidation of the bourbon. In the bottle, the bourbon still oxidizes, especially if the volume is low and the length of time long (like three years). You can get kits that displace the air in the bottle with inert argon as the easiest solution if you have a bottle worth $2k on the secondary market, and you leave it half filled for two years. Just fill the air portion of the bottle with argon before re-corking and it will not oxidize. Obv also keep out of sunlight…
You should do a spreadsheet of all your bottles, use only drams and do random bottles based on category or proof or something, and by the end of the year drink every single bottle you have. You guys have a lot of bottles, the more random bottles are what I enjoy!
Sometimes your reviews are really helpful, but they are always great fun to watch
Glad to see KC15 do as well as it did. One of my favorites
The entire Russell's lineup is tough to beat
Man, rough... you guys are soooo lucky to be tasting these 🥃. Cheers
A Fantasy Whiskey/Bourbon draft would be outstanding! Fantasy Football formats typically function as follows:
Each roster starts a Quarterback, 2 Running backs, 2 Wide Receivers, a Tight End, and a jack of all trades.
Maybe Kurt and Trenton could create their own Fantasy Lineup or draft, but for Bourbon. They could each draft any whiskey. 7-8 rounds, 7-8 bottles each. 1 Premium Whiskey (like a Quarterback). 2 Bourbons. 2 Ryes. 1 Scotch. 1 Irish Whiskey. 1 Japanese Whiskey.
Good video! Would take me about 5 years to accumulate that many 15 year old bourbons. I live vicariously through you guys!
Great video guys, I assumed Russ 15 would win, but surprised on the KC15. Based on another recommendation of it, it's now my top "to look for" bottle. I hope to find a Russ 15 this Winter based on the bottle counts rumored, they will be out there for not such crazy secondary prices.
Fred Minnick has said you should try not to guess when doing blinds because it affects the accuracy of the results.
I dislike seeing guessing in blinds.
Trenton..love it when you try to guess what they are, especially since you're rarely correct
Yall should consider putting together several pools that Rebecca can then select from at random. This way its a double blind of things you've already selected to Pair up for some particular reason (ie price point; availability, proof point etc). Cheers guys!
I’d love to see a series where you blind different finishes of whiskey. Rum, Port, Toasted, Cigar Blends.
Love trying bottles like this but very little reviews comparing types of finishes
Very interesting. I love all of your videos. You make us feel like part of your family.
bro, i love the scent descriptions lol
RR15 is truly a unicorn bottle- worth every penny at MSRP and it's hard to say that about a $250 bottle
wow the grandparent nut reference hits home soo much! thanks for nostalgia and great video
Not sure if there are a lot of maple/honey finished bourbon/rye with the brand also coming out with a standard offering of the same product. But it would be cool to see a video of the standard offering with a 1/8 teaspoon or so drop of maple syrup or honey blinded against the finished product to see how they differ. I’ve put some maple syrup of that amount in some ryes I have and they’ve been exceptional!!😂 Enjoy!!
Side note: bought and tried the Blue Note Rye Honey Cask and really enjoyed it.
Video series idea. Get popular shelf stable bottles that are also offered as single barrel store picks. Try the shelf bottle compared to 4 or 5 store picks of it and see how many store picks rank above or below the shelf bottle in the blind so we know if seeking out store picks of the product are worth it or not.
Yes, especially for KC. Rank ~5 SiB Reserves (shelfers) & 5 SiB Selects (store picks). The reserves are usually $5-10 less & many say all the KC SiB have little variance between barrels. Could see if age matters & could also see if any if the warehouses produce better juice, as is thought to be true for WT products, like RR SiB.
Also, my buddy brought over RR15 as part of our weekend flight, and IMO it tasted like an überoaky RRSB. IMO the CNF is a measurably superior pour. Cheers!

Knob 15 I have never seen in my local stores
I may be mistaken but I think they no longer make the 15 year
I saw an 18 just today....I've never seen a 15
@@jasonczfan8658That’s my understanding too. Bit of a bummer as I have one and my memory was that it was very similar to the 18 at a meaningfully cheaper price
I love watching Trent telling us his guesses....I think it tells us what his palate is really getting.
Definitely try to guess if you can! It's information that should be shared
this is a video ive been waiting for
I bought a Calumet 15 a couple weeks ago for $75!! Couldn't pass it up for that price. I had to read the sticker 2-3 times to make sure I was seeing the price correctly.
Heck of a price. I have it near me for 125 and I thought that was pretty good.
Damn!❤
IMO 15 is better than 16
Fantasy draft: Offer different categories ie: QB position would be LE or 15 yr bourbons, Min of 11 Categories.
Hold group drafts
SLB executes blinds of each category, 6 bottle blind picks from each category in a Vid episode. (May take multiple episodes to get through all the bottle of a category)
6pts for the win down to 1 pt for last place.
During playoffs the top two of each episode are blinded to pick a winner of the category.
Superbowl is the winner of each category blind.
Never had a Pappy had Old Rip 10 and It tasted like Weller 107 on steroids, loved it!
Send me the whiskey you don't like XD
I watch yall in the background while at work. Thank you for keeping it entertaining!
I would love to see an Old Scout blind or review. Love to hear your comments especially on the Rye
What a way to usher in Friday! Cheers!!
I would love to see you do a whiskeys of the world blind tasting. Similar price points. A single malt from the US, Japan, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and ...
Interesting results. I LOVE my Calumet 15. Coin toss with the KC15 depending on the day. Haven’t seen the KC15 since a few years ago. Just back to back years of KC18 now.
That Russell's 15 was $250. I missed it by one person. I don't think I could have pulled the trigger. Now I have FOMO.
I believe JB has discontinued the 15 knob creek. I had the Calumet 15 wasn’t a fan it was ok but really just a good bottle at best. It was a gift and I wouldn’t buy another at that price. And the other bottles are something I’ll never see so can’t comment on their taste. Not surprised about the Pappy BT does not blind well for me it’s usually 3-4 out of the blinds I’ve done out of five. Nice video and great that you got to try this blind. Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃
I would love to see distillery Blinds, such as all makers up there, all of knob creek..... ( could be a weekly series)
Now that you have done 15years, how about six 12 year old bourbons ? Or blind a bunch of the wild turkeys behind you on the upper shelf :-)
gotta try marrow on toast! the texture is much better as a ‘butter’ for a bread / grain.
I love the Plymouth Gin behind you. 😀
Disappointed Sam Houston didn't make it, when I saw a 15 year blind, SH was the one I wanted to see
Was thinking the same thing. That profile is exactly what I want when I think of old whiskey. So good!
Great blind! I too wanted to see your comments on Calumet Farm...I really like their blends.
I would enjoy a “distillery battle” blind. Six glasses, choose two distilleries and three categories (ie shelf staple, cask strength, LE) and choose one bottle from each category from each distillery.
I love when you guess the bottles
RR 15 is definitely going to be in everyones top five this year
Do the buffalo trace lineup (excluding pappy), to see which one is really worth the hype
I probably preferred Pappy 15 to Knob 15, but haven't had the Barrell or RR 15. I'm supposed to have the RR 15 here soon (it's at a local whiskey bar here), and as I'm a big Wild Turkey fan, I'm expecting that to be my favorite of this bunch as well.
Well done as usual!!
Bone marrow...fog machine...just give me a nice tasting bourbon! 🤨
Seriously Trenton? I'm in the middle of a job on a ladder painting trim listening and you gotta bust out about your one chest hair? Your a riot!!!! Keep up the great work guys...If you shave it n pray ya may sprout another hahaha
Awesome video. Thank you
Interesting outcome!
Hey Kurt, I’ve been on the carnivore for a little over a month. Lost 6 pounds in the first month without working out, skin has cleared up, and I’m sleeping like a baby lol. Hope you have good results!
Great video, I enjoy these high dollar videos, because I’m less tempted to run out and buy 🤣
I’d love to see a wheater blind
How about bakers 7 vs the newer 108 proof Jim beam single barrel? Same distiller basically same proof and ones around 30 and other is 60+
Pappy Secondary Market prices just dropped 100%!
You realize that a 100% drop would make it free, right!?
Great episode 👍
Loved the video, have you ever redone a blind with the same bourbons to see if they end up in the same order?
Mid Winters night Dram dropped this past week in Utah, $130.00
I liked this blind very much. I do think you should try and guess each taste. It makes it more interesting to me
Another great video. How about a Nashville Barrel co bottle or two in a future review?
Still Austin review
I just poured myself a glass of Still Austin Cask Strength at 116 proof. I wasn't too sure about it at first, but the bottle's opened up very nicely.
Don't try to guess what each pour is. Just enjoy them and choose which are your favorites. Trying to figure out which is which can influence your decisions. Part of the fun is being surprised about how you rank them.
I get what you mean Trent, I get a real strong Johnny Bravo feel from Knob Creek 9 and a hint of Ed, Edd n Eddy from Blanton's.
I love your videos because your pallets are so similar to mine so I believe you have great taste.
