    The way you address the hurdle with the lead leg will have a major impact on how fast you run. In this video lesson you’ll learn the correct lead leg technique with drills and tips to help make it stick.
    Many coaches and hurdlers think that the lead leg should be straight and “snap down” after clearing the hurdle. Snapping the lead leg down causes many issues which hurt your technique and result in slower times. The ideal hurdling technique is actually leading with the knee and having a bent lead leg.
    In this lesson -
    Coach Karim shares a great warm up drill that also helps develop proper motor patterns when it comes to the lead leg movement.
    Coach Brown talks about some of the most common errors with the lead leg and how to prevent them.
    Coach Brown demonstrates proper lead leg technique on the track and ties it into a rhythmic hurdling drill.

    My daughter's a 1st time hurdler (8th grade), she loves it, but is getting very little training from her coaches, so we're going to do as much as possible on our own with your help

      Great to hear! We have a full course that really goes into the details which could really help if she isn't getting good training from her coaches ua-cam.com/video/saXeCg1Azjg/v-deo.html

    Yay! Thank you. Some basic hurdling tips to help with continuous movement through the hurdle. Very, very helpful to laying a good foundation. I liked the talking. That's what coaches do...and we love them for taking the time to care and share. Now that we covered the lead leg, what about the trail leg and the arms?

    I started hurdling and would you say repetition helps? I am fast and I can easily get over a hurdle but my form is not the best

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  3 роки тому +7

      Yes, when starting out it's especially important to get in reps using proper technique. If you practice bad technique you will develop bad habits that will become very hard to break as you progress.

    Love the video. Wanted to know how far apart are the hurdles for this drill?

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  Рік тому +1

      Are you talking about the drill at ~3:00 min? If so that one is ~2 hurdle lengths. Set the hurdle to the lowest position, tilt it over until its flat on the ground, mark that spot and repeat at that spot. Quick way to measure out the distance when setting up.

    Does anyone know what height collegiate men should be using on the stationary lead leg drill?

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  3 роки тому +3

      Depends on their height, hip mobility experience etc. Typically you can start lower ~ 36" and work up to 42" (106.7cm)

    • @OutperformOfficial
      @OutperformOfficial  2 роки тому +1

      Just have the standard hurdles set to their lowest position. The distance apart in the second drill is 2 hurdle lengths (you can use the hurdles to measure).

    If I am 1,75 cm high (5 ft 9’, I think) am I tall enough for the 110m hurdles? Or should I try with the 400m hurdles with lower hurdles?

      @@simonegranelli4009 Some hurdlers have exceptionally "springy" legs. I am 6' 0" and one of my toughest competitors in the 110m HH (39") was your height. You can do it. College high hurdles (42") may be a different story for you. Three-stepping is mandatory.

      @@doughoffman9463 Thanks for your answer. I decided to switch from 110m hs to 400m hs because hurdles are shorter, but I knew that some hurdlers are around my height, for example Eric Edwards Jr, who is 5 ft 9' and run in the 110m hs.
