    I am a college track walk on… they have me doing hurdles. I’ve felt like a real underdog not being able to perform as well as I’d like. I really appreciated you talking about your difficulties, struggles, and mistakes throughout this practice. Made me recognize that even those who have been doing this for longer than I have still have improvements they are working hard to fix!!

    Hey man, as a high school hurdler, I can say that this helped. Thanks and keep it up!
    P.S: Any more advice on the the trail leg? I use my right leg for trailing.

      Thanks! Thats good to hear!
      I would say the biggest thing I'm working on is trying to pull my trail knee into my armpit IMMEDIATELY after leaving the ground

    Hey! Thanks for this, I’m a high school hurdler as well, but I’m kinda on the shorter side which makes it a bit more difficult, but I can say this helped thanks!

      Leanr to hurdle with both legs as lead legs and run 4 steps between, alternating legs. eventually when you get fast enough and more efficient you can go down to 3 steps with which ever leg you are more efficient with. Plus if you run intermediate hurdles, even Sidney McLaughlin changes lead leg during a race.

    recommendation if you attack over the AZ your back leg will be over your hurdle will not interfere with the left line. right arm forward and down over the hurdle to minimize lateral of the left arm.

    i get the basic and the technique is there but how do i LOWER my body and not JUMP over the hurdle, and get my trail leg to move faster when going of the hurdle

      You could think about lengthing your lead arm and shoulders over the hurdle before your going over

    Do you have any advice on how to eliminate upper body movement. My left arm tends to pull me back and rotate me after going over the hurdle

      stay low on the hurdle and reach for your front foot. Went through the same thing and now i’m starting to get it down after my coach explained that to me.

      Pretend like your grabbing a Dorr Handel I’m front of you and then pull it it back like your gonna flag this door open! That’s helped me to keep my arms from going all over the place

    My only problem is i do High Hurdles for High School boys and i am only 5’6 and i keep on getting caught on the hurdle and it’s really frustrating .

      Learn to lead with both legs and alternate in races until you get taller for faster. Plus, over time you will find that one leg is a better lead than the other.. And if you run intermediate, you will have no problems when you have to sight adjust.

    Oh also do you have any advice on attacking the hurdle more instead of trying to leap the hurdle?

    • @WithHardt
      @WithHardt  3 роки тому +1

      "Kicking the top of the hurdle" is a cue that has been helpful for me in the past. I'm going to make an updated hurdle tips video soon so stay tuned and good luck!

  • @matthewwecker2121

    When did you change 7 strides? Do you think it’s worth trying to change or just get fast at 8 and be more consistent?

    • @WithHardt
      @WithHardt  5 років тому +1

      I started to transition at the start of the season. I would say it depends on the running stride and your current position at the first hurdle. Athletes that are naturally quicker mostly stay at 8 (Omar McLeod) still does 8. Taller stronger athletes can transition to 7 if they are getting to close to the first hurdle. So yeah it just depends on the athlete.

      Try bending your knee when going over the hurdle with your lead leg
