  • Highpoint RV Convection/microwave diagnostic check and repair.
Situation: opened door and lights went off and not power. Removing the front panel, then front screen to access the 20 amp AGC (all glass) or 20 amp ABC (ceramic fuse). Then the removing of 1 screw to remove the key pad, sliding up sightly. This exposes the inner workings of the bracket that holds 3 Normally open/Normally closed switches. The 2 bottom switches are KW3A (1 with a blade in the NC slot and 1 in the NO slot) (they look nearly identical) www.amazon.com/dp/B08XWWZKVX/...

Typically, the Normally open or Normally closed switch starts to get worn out or guess bad, causing a power surge blowing the 20 amp AGC fuse. Fuses can be found at Lowes/Home Depot or Ace Hardware stores. Usually sold in pairs. Before just replacing the 20 amp fuse, it's best to check the Switches, otherwise you're going to just blow the 20 amp fuse again. It blew for a reason right? In this video, I verified the NC/NO switches worked so "this time" I was going to just replace the fuse. After a closer inspection of the switches, it felt like one switch was just a little lighter to the touch so I replaced it. The video is just a quick visual reference to how simple it is to check. Or you can just buy a $500 replacement.
    Good luck.

Thanks for this video. Saved so much money. I was able to order all 3 switches from Amazon for $11 and make the repair withouth the help of my husband. Actually I don't know how men do it - I've got small fingers and I had a bit of a time working around all of the wires.

Hi Ron, thanks for the info, here is what I have done. Blown fuse 3 weeks ago, replaced it, I opened the door to use and it went black screen, I unplugged and replaced the ceramic slow blow fuse, put everything back together closed the door, plugged it in, opened door and went black again. Please provide a link for the parts I need to replace. Thank you, Russ

The links to the Normally Open and normally closed door fuses are in the body description. You must replace those first before replacing the glass fuse. The NC/NO switches can be easily priced apart and you'll see the inside burned up. Once you've replaced the NC/NO switch (pay attention to the video) and you've put it back together, you can put the new glass fuse in and then plug it in. You'll know right away if it works when you open the door. Links are in the description.

My husband tripped the GFCI’s in the wall it shares… ever since, when it’s plugged in, it runs constantly. Fuse looks good. Nothing else looks burnt up.. any thoughts?

Typically GFCI tripping is an entirely different issue like a loose wire, exposed or connector junction with the powering wire. It can be as simple as a loose screw on the plug itself. The constant running might be a fuse has arched in the microwave and isn't recognizing the door is open. Double check everything is connected and as it should be

Did I miss what problem the microwave was having? And also, how do you unplug the microwave before taking all that apart or do you have to unplug the RV from power?

The original problem was it didn't work. No power to the microwave. A check of the glass fuse showed it to be blown, replaced and it blew again, so that required checking further into the microwave to determine why it was blowing the fuse which led to the door fuses. As far as unplugging, it should be plugged into and outlet just above the microwave, more than likely behind the cubbord above the microwave. Unplug the power cord and you're good. Multimeter test on the fuses with a continuity check will confirm the viability of the fuses. Hope this helps.

So have you had any more problems with your high point? I have pulled everything apart and am ordering the parts, but all of mine worked… just like yours did. We did change the fuse two times. And ever time we open the door it pops.

I've had to fix mine twice in 6 years. If yours is still popping, my suggestion is to double check all your switches. They do pull apart. Once you open them, you'll be able to tell if they're bad. There will be large or small burning in the switches. Primary one that burns out is the one I replaced.

I am so thankful that God led me to your video! I went to amazon and bought all new switches, I replaced them today and accidentally switched the open and closed and when I put it back together it popped the fuse so i pulled it all back apart and switched them around and put in a new fuse and it WORKS!!! Thank you so much!!

Glad to help. Just FYI, I've had to do this 3 times in 6 years.
