Great info! Thank you so much. I was thinking of removing our microwave, but now I'm rethinking that. Can you bake/roast/grill in metal pans or stoneware or do you have to use something like silicone?
I use a metal pizza pan normally in the oven when on convection or grill mode. If you want to combo with the microwave, make sure your pan/cookware is microwave safe. You can leave the rack in on any mode. Make sure any metal pan avoids touching the sides of the microwave. All the best!
Oh my gosh thank you!! So much information wow. The dang booklet didn’t explain it as well as you did, I feel like a pro now and I haven’t even used mine yet! 🎉

I wish I could "like" this video a thousand times! You did a great job. Succinct and knowledgeable. I'm no longer afraid to use my convection microwave oven. Thanks for the help!
Well, since the manual doesn't cover much except microwave safety, it wouldn't have helped you much if you did have it. John, thanks, you answered some of my questions. I still can't figure out what pan to use for the Roast Chicken setting. Pyrex and other high temp glass is ok for normal baking and for microwave. Metal is fine for grilling or baking. But nothing works for both microwave and grilling, that I know of. And I want my chicken in a dish so it will roast moist, in it's marinade.
Great video. The only thing I would note and the reason I watched this was I was trying to figure out why it kept saying food when I selected 350 on the convection cycle. This oven will only go numbers 1-6 or up to 325 on a regular convection cycle. The food mean you have to select a food button which uses a combo of cooking methods as you so eliquently explained. This little microwave has A LOT of features for a small footprint and you did a fantastic job of explaining them. You have a new follower in us for sure.
John, this is great- I had no idea how to use ours beyond microwave, and we bought our rig new 2 years ago. I was determined to figure out how to use more features so we have more options.
When using convection and or grill feature, can you use metal pans? I’ve seen this in other units. I know I can’t use metal in microwave setting. Thank you for taking the time to explain this nifty appliances. Well done!❤
Thank you John you really did a great job explaining all that. I am looking forward to using this appliance more. you made it super easy to understand.
What is the purpose for lockout? Very complicated for someone who spends little time in the kitchen. As usual, a great tutorial, and I will be practicing on a pizza tomorrow! Thanks John!
Richard, I think the lockout may be to keep kids from accidentally starting the unit. I use a 12" diameter Mainstays Nonstick Pizza Pan (Walmart) to cook pizza on. I really like the Costco - Milton's Craft Bakers - Thin & Crispy Cauliflower crust roasted vegetable pizza (any 12" or less diameter pizza of your liking will do). I can keep the pizza well frozen in the Edgestar portable freezer I travel with (see video). Usually, I preheat the convection oven on 400 until is heats fully, then use the pan on the rack and let it cook for 15 minutes or so. You will have to take a look to check if it's done as much as you like and change heat/time accordingly. Hope this helps!
Hey John. Thank you so much for this valuable information! I’m like everyone else. Maybe some basic micro features being used up until this point. But now I’m ready to rock and roll thanks to your thoroughness. Have you baked cookies? I’m thinking preheat the convection, then just do them as usual. Every oven has either a little more or little less power. I’m sure I’ll get it dialed. It’d also be nice to do a pizza on a stone! Have you done that one?
I’ve only baked pizzas on a metal pan on the revolving rack. Cookies should be fairly simple as you mentioned. Not sure how a pizza stone would work but it may be worth experimenting. All the best!
Lucky me!! Your video is of my exact model; your video has taken away my fears. Thanks John! Can you show me your interior racks? My used camper is missing these, “must have” parts. I need to order some; but have limited info.
I wonder if you can advise me on an issue. I have the Rpod 189 , with the Thule crown awning . It will not open and the hand crank doesn't seem to have the T bolt to open it by hand. is there something I am doing wrong? it fit but is lose . thank you
This video was very helpful in understanding the functions and features of the buttons. We have had our motorhome for 2 years and it did not come with a manual. My question would be, are there any special what trays or baking racks are needed to cook using the convection, grilling or roasting function. My motorhome was brand new and only came with the clear microwave turntable and nothing else. When we ask the dealer they are clueless. Thank you for any guidance regarding accessories.
Sorry to hear that yours did not come with the rack with rubber feet. You may be able to procure one from the company (HighPointe). I have found that you can use most pans in the oven on the rack as long as metal does not touch the sides of the oven when it rotates. I found this on eTrailer but be sure that it will match your model before purchasing: www.etrailer.com/question-625365.html
John what a really good video. I have not figured out how to use microwave until this video. John what are you using to keep your microwave clean. I see that every time you touch the microwave with your finger there are no finger marks. Every time I touch my microwave I leave finger prints. Thank you John.
Thanks for the comment, I am glad the video was helpful. I use a damp micro-fiber towel to wipe down the unit. It does regularly get finger prints! All the best.
@@JohnMarucci Thanks John for your reply. I will try that. It seems I use mine a lot and at the end of t the night I need to wipe the microwave down more.
I had to replace a faulty Convection/Microware in my 2014 RPOD 179. I found that the Farberware Gourmet FMO10AHSBKA 1.0 Cubic Foot 1000 Watt Microwave Oven, from Amazon.ca, is a perfect match and I could use the original vented surround kit.
Thank you so much. This microwave is so different than ours at home. We have a Travato and plan to cook many meals. Now if you could just tell us the best things to cook and let us watch the results that would be great!
Thanks for posting this informativevideo. Will you show grilling / roasting / baking a dish and using the metal rack included with the unit? In addition the type of dishes you use for the convection oven?
The video only covers how to operate the unit, and unfortunately, I do not plan to show cooking specific dishes with the oven. I have primarily baked pizza in the oven using a 9" round pizza pan on the metal rack using convection mode. This works well. You can use the convection oven just like at home and cook pretty much anything that an oven at home will cook, you just need to keep the dish small enough to rotate in the small space. Thanks!
Thank you so much, this was very informative! There are two things I don't understand about this "oven" still. One, what kinds of pans can go in there when you are using the convection mode or grill mode? Two, The raised platform says it's only for the grill function, however, I thought most convection ovens want your food to be raised in order to circulate the air. Are you supposed to use the raised metal platform in convection mode, as well?
I use regular ovenware when using the convection or grill settings. I also use the metal rack on all settings, including convection. Makes good pizza on a 9" metal pan rotating on convection mode.
Dear John, I really appreciated this video. On this high pointe convection oven, if you are using the convection mode and not the microwave can you use a metal baking sheet? Many thanks in advance
Hi John useful video but my high pointe cuts out after 4 minutes on both roast chicken and roast. So far convection by itself has warmed up and is cooking at 375. Why does it stop dead as in no lights and 0:00 on panel with roast and roast chicken?
Yeah, this doesn't make sense that it would stop working if you set it correctly. Maybe double check the settings required from the video and if it still doesn't work, you may be looking at a service call.
I put a pizza pan on the rack when cooking pizza in the convection oven to allow for air flow underneath. I also use it toast bread or buns. It works well with the grill function. Glad the video was helpful. All the best!
I want your pizza pan you speak of...is it glass or metal? What size is it? Does it sit on top of the rack or inside the circle. I want to be prepared to use next trip. Thank you so much for the great instructions!!!
Jeanne, we tried the inexpensive Walmart metal pizza pan and it proved too big. The one we then tried is the Mainstays 12” pizza pan from Walmart and it has worked well. We always bake with the pan on top of the rack so it rotates in convection oven mode. Here is a link to my Instagram explaining it: instagram.com/p/B4N5TjWhfRg/?igshid=1f9xk102u8pfj
Does that also work with the combo cooking you speak of? Certainly appreciate you sharing this! I’ve never used the oven yet...now I can’t wait to try...thank you!!
I only use the Mainstays 12” non-stick pizza pan when using either convection or broil function or a combo of both, but never when using the microwave. Hope this helps.
Excellent education on the features. However I was interested in what types of cooking materials should be used when "convecting" and if the plastic ring should be removed or is it safe to keep installed while using the oven /grill?
Now that was very informative. I have used the microwave only 1 time and I guess did not set it right and overheated my chicken pie and turned off. Did not work anymore until it was cold and after it reset itself. I guess now I can do it right. Only item you missed on the video is what to do eith the metal racks. Take them out or use them for what function?
I keep the metal rack in for convection and grill use. It is also microwave safe as long as when it rotates it doesn't touch the sides. It helps especially cooking with the convection to get an even application. Thanks!
Hi John Great Video! just got a new Travel trailer last week. Your video is very helpful. Just a quick question. My plate does not turn smoothly. Kind of jerky. I checked the insert in the middle and both it and the plastic ring are in correct alignment. is this unusual? my home microwave turns smoothly
Great video. Do you use the metal rack when using the microwave only? Do you use the metal rack when using combo? What cookware is used in each feature? I know metal kills a microwave so that is where my confusion is coming from.
The manual is vague on issues like this - so I am not sure if the metal rack is tuned for the microwave and can be left in on combo mode. Some microwaves do have metal racks with plastic or rubber feet. This metal rack does have rubber on the feet. My take is that it can be left in, but I need to fully test this in combo mode and get back to you. Here is a link to the manual: www.rpod-owners.com/uploads/3816/EC028BMR-manual.pdf
@@lynnetsobanakis9020 Looks like he may have answered it in a response to another question. I've been wondering the same and searched other questions and responses. John Marucci 1 year ago I use a metal pizza pan normally in the oven when on convection or grill mode. If you want to combo with the microwave, make sure your pan/cookware is microwave safe. You can leave the rack in on any mode. Make sure any metal pan avoids touching the sides of the microwave. All the best!
Loved this clear description of functions....what sort and brands of containers might we have to use all those function without bring along the whole kitchen?
Most pyrex brand glass will work in pretty much any function. You do need to be aware of what the pyrex is rated for as far as max temps, especially when using the convection oven. Thanks!
Rachel, the metal rack can be used in the microwave. I usually use it for grilling and convection oven use, but it can be used in microwave mode. The roast chicken function for example, uses all three modes and one must use the metal rack as the mode changes to convection and grill. Thanks for the question!
What pans can I use when using microwave and convection? I have the round metal rack and have used that for convection...can it also be used in microwave function?
Jennifer, I have included the link below for the High Pointe Convection/Microwave Oven owners manual for the model that I have in my 2017 R-Pod 179 and that was used for this video. Page 7 of the manual provides a list of all the items that can be used in the microwave oven. Hope this helps.www.collinssupport.com/manuals/EC028KD7.pdf
@@terrismith6721 This is a PERFECT question. If you have done further research, were you able to get an answer to your question? It appears this may be the most elusive part of the manual ~ not knowing whether one can SAFELY use the grill rack, and/or pizza pan, when in combo mode (i.e. grilling on G2 or G3 when the microwave automatically starts working).

Soooo helpful and clear. Now I know what I was doing wrong for making toast!
Glad the video was helpful!
Thanks for the info!
Great Video, Thanks
Thank you so much. This microwave is so different than ours at home. We have a Travato and plan to cook many meals. Now if you could just tell us the best things to cook and let us watch the results that would be great!

Very informative. Thanks

Great review of features and option
Bruce, glad it was helpful. Thanks for commenting!
Very informative thank you! Do I need to use the rack for grilling toast ? Or can it be done without?
I would use the rack, not sure you’d get a good result otherwise. Thanks!
Very well explained.
Glad it was helpful!
Yes, we used a metal pizza pan in convection mode. Just make sure the pan is small enough not to scrape the inside when rotating. Thanks!
Mine came with a wire rack, what is that used for. By the way you really help me figure out this up and with your video. Thank you so much!
Double thumbs up!! Thanks!
Glad the video was helpful!
Thanks! Great video!
Do you need to remove the orange rubber tips from the grill rack before use?
We enjoy your videos!
You can leave the orange feet on the grill rack during use. All the best!
Excellent education on the features. However I was interested in what types of cooking materials should be used when "convecting" and if the plastic ring should be removed or is it safe to keep installed while using the oven /grill?
Susan, the plastic ring, glass tray and metal rack all can remain in with all settings. Glad the video was helpful!
Ok glad to hear I could leave it in,but the first time it smelled like burning plastic so I removed it all because I thought I was going to ruin it!
@@lavonnadouglas1353 I removed glass and plastic and put an aluminum foil in it and the door glass broke after preheat at 325. ☹️
Very helpful, thank you!

Mine also was a bit jerky in motion but worked fine. It may be the nature of the unit.
Thanks for the great video. Is it safe to leave the glass plate in the oven while on convection or grill? Thanks☀️
Yes, the glass plate that comes with the oven is safe to leave in the oven. Thanks!
Awesome video well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks trying to learn our new one.

@@JohnMarucci Did you ever test this? Can the metal rack be used to roast chicken with the multiple features that are used?

I use a metal pizza pan normally in the oven when on convection or grill mode. If you want to combo with the microwave, make sure your pan/cookware is microwave safe. You can leave the rack in on any mode. Make sure any metal pan avoids touching the sides of the microwave. All the best!
@@lynnetsobanakis9020 the rack was sparking in the grill mode so we stopped it and used only convection

Loved this clear description of functions....what sort and brands of containers might we have to use all those function without bring along the whole kitchen?
Most pyrex brand glass will work in pretty much any function. You do need to be aware of what the pyrex is rated for as far as max temps, especially when using the convection oven. Thanks!
@@JohnMarucci ..what about the metal rack, and toasting ? I guess the metal confuses me...it comes out for microwave function? Do you even need it?
When do I use the metal rack that came with the microwave? Is it only for convection?
@@JohnMarucci But what about combination cooking? What is safe?
@@terrismith6721 This is a PERFECT question. If you have done further research, were you able to get an answer to your question? It appears this may be the most elusive part of the manual ~ not knowing whether one can SAFELY use the grill rack, and/or pizza pan, when in combo mode (i.e. grilling on G2 or G3 when the microwave automatically starts working).
THANK YOU!!!! I have ben wanting to change my microwave to Convention
