- In this video, we will look at some basics to help you get the most function from the High Pointe Convection/Microwave oven included in most newer R-Pod's and many other RV models. While this oven provides for a wide range of cooking options, some of the features are not intuitive. I show step-by-step how to utilize the functions included on this model (EC028KD7).

Great info! Thank you so much. I was thinking of removing our microwave, but now I'm rethinking that. Can you bake/roast/grill in metal pans or stoneware or do you have to use something like silicone?
I use a metal pizza pan normally in the oven when on convection or grill mode. If you want to combo with the microwave, make sure your pan/cookware is microwave safe. You can leave the rack in on any mode. Make sure any metal pan avoids touching the sides of the microwave. All the best!
It’s ridiculous how you need a training video to figure out how to use this oven/microwave. Thanks for posting!
It took me about six months to figure out how my convection oven worked. It was comical. Thanks for the video!
It took me a while as well. I have to think most people have little idea about the advanced features, which come in very handy. All the best!
John, thanks so much for this very informative video. When you are grilling, is it okay to use the grilling rack that came with the High Pointe convection oven/microwave?
Thank you! This is a great video which has taken the mystery out of the appliance that I've only used as a microwave to this point. Look forward to being able to actually cook with it!
Great to hear that the video was helpful!
I keep having to rewatch this everytime I want to do something new with my Highpoint Convection Microwave Oven.
Glad the video is a good resource. It isn't the easiest oven to use for sure. All the best!
We’ll done. Thank you John this oven in our travel trailer had us completely baffled. 👍🏼
After one year of TRYING to figure out my combo, I now understand how to cook using convection/toast/roast!! You are very concise! Excellent. Thanks, leaving tomorrow for Arkansas State Park. We will see if I learned how to make magic.
Glad the video was helpful!
Excellent Video! Best one I've seen so far about using the oven & all of its features. I had no idea it did so many practical things - including making toast? Who knew!? Thank you!
Valetta, I am glad the video was helpful!
I’m reviewing this really helpful video so I can actually cook in the convection oven, especially baked items. Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Debra, I am glad the convection oven video is helpful. It was a mystery to me for a while. All the best!
Thank you SO much for this! We've had this model in our Class C and for the 2 years we've owned it I couldn't figure out how to do much more than heat chili. The convection oven part of it scared me. This was immensely helpful and now I feel like I can actually use it.
Glad the video was helpful!
Thank you. The oven was a mystery before watching this...so many functions.
Glad to hear this helped. It was a mystery to me as well and I figured others would be in the same boat. It took a bunch of research to get that video together, but we have had great feedback from it.
Thank you John you really did a great job explaining all that. I am looking forward to using this appliance more. you made it super easy to understand.
Glad it was helpful!
Makes me want to get one for my house. The toasting info for very enlightening!! Plus all the rest of the stuff. Thank you!
Glad the video was helpful!
HEHE, I got two? The first one my husband ordered (for my birthday present) the door broke, so they sent us another and told us to keep the broken one! My clever husband fixed it and now I have two!! Going to practice all winter! Just made toast, LOL
I wish I could "like" this video a thousand times! You did a great job. Succinct and knowledgeable. I'm no longer afraid to use my convection microwave oven. Thanks for the help!
I am glad the video was helpful. Thanks for the encouraging comment!
@@JohnMarucci I made muffins this morning and a pizza 🍕 this afternoon!!!!! You would have thought I won the lottery by how excited I was!
Another helpful video! Thank you! We're new to the RV life and bought our 1st trailer - an R-Pod. Your videos are helping us so much! Thank you!!!
Katie, thanks for your encouragement! Congrats on your new R-Pod!
@@JohnMarucci Thank you, John! Whenever we have a question, we say...let's go see if John addressed it! You are such a great resource!
THANK YOU for this!!!! My 2019 R-191 did not come with a manual. So grateful for this video!
Glad it helped!
Thanks John this was a very helpful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video! I just pulled out our air fryer again and my husband said you need to learn how to use the new microwave! just made toast!!
So here I am, following you!
Terri, glad you liked the video. The convection microwave is very handy once you get used to using it. All the best!
Thanks for a great tutorial! We love your videos!
Glad you like them!
I've only had my new-to-me Class B for a couple of months and the microwave has been the last thing on my mind. Though, when our home power was out I was able to figure out the popcorn feature. But now with your video, I'm pumped. I have the High Point Convection Microwave in my van and your video is incredibly helpful. I'll need to watch it about ten more times before I get courage to actually cook something. Thanks so much. I've subscribed!
Glad the video was helpful!
Wow! You have made my day! This is excellently done. Thanks so much. Just ate the pizza. Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
GREAT Video! our goal was to use all the functions this weekend during camping. so far this weekend have baked a cake and made a hashbrown casserole. when we couldn't remember how to set a particular function we just pulled up the video again.
I am so glad the video was helpful! All the best!!
John, I am so glad to find this. We are new R-Pod owners and have struggled with this since we also did not get a manual
Yep, I did as well. It is complicated to run. I knew a video like this would help people, glad you find it so. All the best!
Well, since the manual doesn't cover much except microwave safety, it wouldn't have helped you much if you did have it. John, thanks, you answered some of my questions.
I still can't figure out what pan to use for the Roast Chicken setting. Pyrex and other high temp glass is ok for normal baking and for microwave. Metal is fine for grilling or baking. But nothing works for both microwave and grilling, that I know of. And I want my chicken in a dish so it will roast moist, in it's marinade.
We have this microwave but didn’t get the manual. You’re a lifesaver. Thanks. Very clear.
Glad the video was helpful!
What a great tutorial, John! The wife and I just bought a used R-Pod 180 with one of these ovens and this will save us a ton of time in discovery! Really like the channel too, thanks!
Glad the video was helpful!
Super helpful video, John! These ovens are standard on Leisure Travel Vans, so I shared your video with our enthusiasts group on Facebook. 😊
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for this video John. I picked up my 2018 Rpod 171 this weekend and now I’m ready to try to make cinnamon rolls!
Sounds great!
Great video! Just got this convection oven in our new Geo Pro 16BH. Enjoy your videos.
G T, thanks for the comment, glad the video is helpful. All the best!
Thank you so much for this video John! I’m a visual learner and it would have taken me many months to understand the manual.❤
Great to hear!
Thanks John, very helpful. I had a few more questions, but scrolling through the comments answered them. Thank you again.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for checking out the comments. I think I've spoken to most of the issues over the past year or so. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@JohnMarucci Thanks. Made porkchops in it then did garlic Texas toast too. Both came out perfect. I couldn't figure out how to use the timer, you solved that. Piece of cake, now I just need to get some cookware. Plan on using it for so much more now.
John, this is great- I had no idea how to use ours beyond microwave, and we bought our rig new 2 years ago. I was determined to figure out how to use more features so we have more options.
Glad the video was helpful!
Great tutorial, thanks for doing this.
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative. I did not get any of this information with the Microwave. Thank you!
Joyce, I am glad the convection oven video was helpful. It puzzled me and make the video helped me learn it well. All the best!
Oh my gosh thank you!! So much information wow. The dang booklet didn’t explain it as well as you did, I feel like a pro now and I haven’t even used mine yet! 🎉
Glad that the video was helpful!
Fantastic, subscribed! Thank you!
Wow, I had no idea about all the functions!

John, I watch a lot of video on all kinds of topics, your's is by far the best presentation I seen, very easy to understand! I am cooking a piece of frozen Apple Pie now. Today. This video was great John! I made my wife watch it also, no more excuses now for her LOL, thanks :)
Craig, thanks for the comment. Glad the video was helpful!
@@JohnMarucci One more question my wife is wondering...Can you cook with the convection while on the road? Or do we have to be plugged into 30 amp?
Nope, you need 30 amp to use the convection over. Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Julie, you're welcome! The convection microwave was real mystery to me, yet is a great unit. I am glad the video was helpful. All the best!
Great video. The only thing I would note and the reason I watched this was I was trying to figure out why it kept saying food when I selected 350 on the convection cycle. This oven will only go numbers 1-6 or up to 325 on a regular convection cycle. The food mean you have to select a food button which uses a combo of cooking methods as you so eliquently explained. This little microwave has A LOT of features for a small footprint and you did a fantastic job of explaining them. You have a new follower in us for sure.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for following along!
It actually says “Food” to tell you to insert food… in other words, you need to open the microwave door and shut it before you start cooking anything
Thank you so much. This microwave is so different than ours at home. We have a Travato and plan to cook many meals. Now if you could just tell us the best things to cook and let us watch the results that would be great!
Glad the video was helpful!
Very goo tutorial.
David, glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks trying to learn our new one.
Glad the video was helpful!
Glad the video was helpful!
Thanks for posting this informativevideo. Will you show grilling / roasting / baking a dish and using the metal rack included with the unit? In addition the type of dishes you use for the convection oven?
The video only covers how to operate the unit, and unfortunately, I do not plan to show cooking specific dishes with the oven. I have primarily baked pizza in the oven using a 9" round pizza pan on the metal rack using convection mode. This works well. You can use the convection oven just like at home and cook pretty much anything that an oven at home will cook, you just need to keep the dish small enough to rotate in the small space. Thanks!
Great video. Just bought a new mh and using the convection oven for the first time. Couldn't figure it out. Found your video and now I'm cooking my dinner. Question: Do I remove the glass plate and its turn table when using the convection oven.
You can leave the glass plate in when using the convection oven. Thanks!
THANK YOU!!!! I have ben wanting to change my microwave to Convention
Glad the video was helpful!
Very informative thank you! Do I need to use the rack for grilling toast ? Or can it be done without?
I would use the rack, not sure you’d get a good result otherwise. Thanks!
What is the purpose for lockout? Very complicated for someone who spends little time in the kitchen. As usual, a great tutorial, and I will be practicing on a pizza tomorrow! Thanks John!
Richard, I think the lockout may be to keep kids from accidentally starting the unit. I use a 12" diameter Mainstays Nonstick Pizza Pan (Walmart) to cook pizza on. I really like the Costco - Milton's Craft Bakers - Thin & Crispy Cauliflower crust roasted vegetable pizza (any 12" or less diameter pizza of your liking will do). I can keep the pizza well frozen in the Edgestar portable freezer I travel with (see video). Usually, I preheat the convection oven on 400 until is heats fully, then use the pan on the rack and let it cook for 15 minutes or so. You will have to take a look to check if it's done as much as you like and change heat/time accordingly. Hope this helps!
Hi John, thanks for the video. Have you found anything out on if you can use the metal rack as a microwave and if you can use foil in combo mode? Like if warming up a slice of pizza or other items.
You can use the round metal rack in microwave mode. As far as foil, should be fine, but always test it first. Any metal, do NOT allow it to touch the sides of the oven. Hope this helps!
Lucky me!! Your video is of my exact model; your video has taken away my fears. Thanks John!
Can you show me your interior racks? My used camper is missing these, “must have” parts. I need to order some; but have limited info.
Here is a link to my Instagram with a few pics… instagram.com/p/B4N5TjWhfRg/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I had to replace a faulty Convection/Microware in my 2014 RPOD 179. I found that the Farberware Gourmet FMO10AHSBKA 1.0 Cubic Foot 1000 Watt Microwave Oven, from Amazon.ca, is a perfect match and I could use the original vented surround kit.
Thanks for the info!
Great video. If I understand correctly, you can use a metal pan with the microwave setting as long as it doesn't touch the sides of the oven?
It is possible, but you will want to test carefully. Thanks!
I needed to know how to use the defrost!
I set it the same as cooking items in the microwave. The defrost mode will power down part of the time while cooking. It isn't the easiest to guess how long to use it for an item however, so I very rarely use it.
Love your videos! They are so helpful. Question. If using a combo of microwave and convection do you use the rack to keep the pan off the bottom of the microwave? Is that rack a metal that won’t spark?
I do use the metal circular rack with the rubber/silicon feet in the oven in combo mode. It shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't contact the walls when turning. Thanks!
@@JohnMarucci Thank you!! I've been looking for that answer.
Loved this clear description of functions....what sort and brands of containers might we have to use all those function without bring along the whole kitchen?
Most pyrex brand glass will work in pretty much any function. You do need to be aware of what the pyrex is rated for as far as max temps, especially when using the convection oven. Thanks!
@@JohnMarucci ..what about the metal rack, and toasting ? I guess the metal confuses me...it comes out for microwave function? Do you even need it?
Mine came with a wire rack, what is that used for. By the way you really help me figure out this up and with your video. Thank you so much!
I put a pizza pan on the rack when cooking pizza in the convection oven to allow for air flow underneath. I also use it toast bread or buns. It works well with the grill function. Glad the video was helpful. All the best!
Just bought our RV - this was very helplful to a newbie, even though we do have the manual. Great video - we have subscribed. One unanswered question - can we use metal for convection mode (e.g., baking) - aluminum? stainless steel?
You can use metal pans while on convection mode no problem. I do it regularly. Also, the metal rack with rubber feet can stay in the oven. Thanks!
Dede Colwell
Great video! Thank you for sharing! Do you know if this unit can be used as an airfryer?
I don’t know if it can be used as an air fryer. I haven’t heard it being used in this way.
