This lineup and Album were my gateway to Metheny... Still my fave of all Pat's stuff.

I saw them perform this entire record live at the Paradise rock cub in Boston early 1980's. It was a mesmerizing performance by the band, I'll never forget it. I always loved this original quartet with Gottleib on drums. I've been to and recorded in the studio where this record was made, Longview Farms studio in N. Brookfield Massachusetts. Rest in Peace Lyle Mays.
Remember listening to this in Portsmouth NH in1986 while staying at the Ceres St Inn next to the Ceres St Bakery, saw them at Lowell Auditorium in Lowell Massachusetts and then we moved back to Palo Alto California to Lowell St as well. Bought a house in Saratoga overlooking the Paul Mason Winery and Villa Montalvo....saw them often then....my old jazz prof at Phillips Exeter and UNH was friends with Pat back in the day at Berklee in Boston. If you saw Pat Metheny play this album live at the Paradise, you must be mistaken about the date because American Garage wasn't released until Nov. of 1979. Plus, the Pat Metheny Group didn't exist in the early 70's. On a similar note, I was lucky enough to see them at the Paradise in '78; they played the Group's entire first album. It was truly breathtaking.
