Music for the soul. Pat and Lyle is a combination that always delivered! I don't know about anyone else, but I consider Lyle Mays (RIP) a fantastic fusion keyboardist and I sure do miss his music - as both a principal contributor to Pat Metheny Group and as a solo artist he was just brilliant and played so adventurously with a unique and joyful tone and phrasing all his own. Since the '70's I've always looked forward to his latest works and it is a sound I will miss.

Had the chance to meet Pat for a brief moment at the rehearsal of one of his concerts in Belgrade several years back, and the only words I could utter were, "Thank you for all you do, your music has been the soundtrack of my life". And I know many of us share this feeling...

Cet aboutissement harmonique m'a totalement bluffé. Les voir jouer ça à la perfection comme ce soir-là à Montréal ajoute la cerise sur le gâteau.

Just all amazing -then listened to Pat Metheny group for many years after -including live. -so wonderful. -such a part of the soundtrack of our lives. Rest In Peace , Lyle.

Lyle once accounted for this magnificent grand TWU finale, code-named M70 in the making: „M70 was briefly labeled "4th movement" by me early on (before we had even written any of it). I withdrew that working title once I realized that we had a much thornier form on our hands. But it was always
planned to contain all (or as many as possible) of the previous themes. It feels like a Rondo in that we keep returning to certain grooves and melodies so that's a time honored form for a 4th movement but I don't see TWU as a symphony.“

Music from heaven. All if them at the absolute pinnacle of musicianship. I saw them in the 80s in Manchester. Pat and Lyle are god-given.

FG or anyone here missing Lyle....as we all do terribly, check out his playing with the multi instrumentalist here Nando Lauria.
Suggest starting with the tune saudade. On UA-cam. Peace all.

Lyle did a wonderful job on "Saudade" and other 2 songs. I remember clearly those recording days...

No doubt, Lyle Mays is one of the Greatest of All Times...he chose music, but he could have done so many other things...the good news for us, he chose music, you can't hear the melody of a building...but maybe you can feel it...

Have you read about what the bells of Notre Dame are doing? There was an article on google, I believe about a month ago. Scientists are going to try to figure out what’s going on!
