This appears to be a re-issued copy of the original ECM 12" radio station EP. I was fortunate to meet and talk with Pat briefly after the gig they did at the Seattle Opera House, Bumbershoot, Labor Day weekend 1977. I had been lucky enough to be invited back stage, and was off to stage left during the performance. I specifically remember 'San Lorenzo' which was later released on this EP. What a thrill to hear that tune live for the first time and a thrill to hear it again today. Thanks for posting.
I was listening to a lot of Larry Coryell at this time and had just discovered Gary Burton. My infatuation with PM began a couple of years later and has remained constant. Thank you for posting this.
I believe the Seattle show was part of the Bumbershoot Festival...PMG was on it's first PMG album tour. Nobody knew about Pat but us I guess cuz there were empty seats galore. We sat down in the front row and watched the band proceed to kick some serious ass that evening.
I've been spending this morning listening to different versions of San Lorenzo. I'm amazed at the variety in Lyle's solos and their consistently high quality. The transition out of his solo (around 25:20 in this recording) is one of great moments in their catalog (in pretty much any of the live or recorded versions).
The progression of this tune over the years they played it is remarkable. Would not be possible to hear these outside of something like the internet. For that I'm thankful.
That's the place I always go to to see how he plays that transition. That's why I like the live version in "Travels" better than the studio version in the album "Pat Metheny Group."
Thanks for posting. I have this gem on reel-to-reel from a radio broadcast (maybe a KJAZ rebroadcast) many decades ago but didn't document the when and where. Glad you solved that mystery. Now I can label my tape! So many great shows at the GAMH. Great venue. Seen a zillion shows there. This is one of my favorite periods of Pat's music. Lyle was so underrated and is so missed - RIP.
any live performance at UCBerkely, california...'73 to '77? would love to find. (greek theater) first time i saw him live. It changed my world! still avid fan!! bought tickets to see him this month in sacramento, ca. canceled because of covid! rescheduled till next year sept. what a disapointment..but i will wait, He is a very special person. thank you for posting this amazing talent!! t
Very first Methany concert for me was the tour for the debut Metheny group album at the Roxy nightclub on Sunset Boulevard (197X?). They returned again to the Roxy about a year later and I recorded it on a Walkman cassette unit. The sound is not great and there is audible audience talking but I enjoyed listening to it over and over back then.

45RPM with about 20 minutes per side? Seems a bit unusual.
Magic! (could you possibly add timings?) Thanks.
