HOMEMADE BREADCRUMBS RECIPE
Ingredients:
2 cups rolled oats (200g)
1 tbsp melted butter or olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Preparation:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Spread the rolled oats evenly on the lined baking sheet. Drizzle melted butter or olive oil over the oats.
Bake for 10 minutes, or until the oats are lightly golden and fragrant.
Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature.
Once the oats are cool, transfer them to a food processor and pulse a few times until they break down into a breadcrumb-like texture.
Season the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse a few more times to ensure that the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Store the homemade breadcrumbs in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to use.
Enjoy your homemade breadcrumbs in your favorite recipes that call for breadcrumbs, such as meatballs, breaded chicken, or casseroles.

Great reminder that a healthy substitute for bread crumbs is as close as our pantry. I can state from experience that the recipes Sasha shows in this video (leftover chicken patties and baked oats) are excellent and frequently on our dinner table. Thanks so much, Sasha. You are always the best ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐UA-cam chef!💖😎
It's true Lauren, we should always have a bag of oats on hand, because there are almost no limits how to use them. So happy you enjoy the recipes. Thank you for your kind support as always!

Thanks for your lovely feedback!
Excellent alternative 😋
Glad you like it!
Great idea Sasha! I've never even thought of that. Next time I need breadcrumbs I will give it a try. As ever TFS and have a great week! 👍💕
Hi Hazel! Hope this breadcrumb substitute will work for you too, I've been using them in meatloafs and patties for quite long, but the problem was with breading, and I find this toasting can help and give more crispy results. Enjoy your week, take care!
I also use desiccated coconut, grated ginger, chickpea flour and a little cornmeal.
Wow, love the idea, will give that a try too.
I just made meatloaf with gluten free bread crumbs. Next time I will try the oats ‼️ Good idea, I never thought of it
Thanks for your lessons 🌷💕🌷💕🌷💕🌷💕🌷💕🌷
It's my pleasure, glad it can help!
Nice!
You never cease to amaze me Sasha.. i never thought of oats to make bread crumbs. That's genius!! 👌
Yeah, that's the power of oats, you can use them in so many different ways. Thanks!
@@HowToCookSmarter 😃 indeed!
Recently I’ve gotten into breading things with cooked quinoa! A great way to add more protein
Yeah, quinoa is also a wonderful option.
I love this idea! I’m definitely gonna try the oats for a sub for breadcrumbs 🤩👍
Thanks for your feedback!
It’s great idea 😍😍
Glad you like the idea!
This recipe looks great. I can't wait to try it out. Thank you so much!
And make sure you properly season your oats, it really makes the difference.
@@HowToCookSmarter Thanks.
genius! again! I expect nothing less from you at this point!
Thanks Darrell, I appreciate your support as always!
yeah i use them but they still have a lot of calories so use them carefully
are quick oats good enough for crispy chicken?
❤❤❤❤
I never thought of using oats instead of breadcrumbs. Will have to try.
Hope you'll find it delicious!
I used the Quick Oats as they are, and put them into my meatloaf, meat balls & used them as breading
and I didn't find them absorbable at all. Not like bread crumbs.
What am I doing wrong?
Oats need some time to properly absorb the moisture, so when your meatloaf mixture is done, let it rest in the fridge for 30-60 mins and than proceed with cooking.
How many kg of oats do you get through in a week? 😃
My brother eats so much oats that he buys them in 50 pound bags. Those are only available through food service companies and farm animal feed stores.
Yeah, I know, but actually not that much, I also love eggs or smoothies for my breakfast.
Could I put those chicken patties in the oven?
Sure, that would be fine too.
Can you also use the quick oats? I use rolled oats, but, I have 3 bags of quick oats soon to expire...trying to be creative.
@@Hot_Buttered_Popcorn Great...thanks for telling me. With all this 'prepping' business, I can't keep up to all the dates!! Thank you so much again, Hot Buttered Popcorn.
Has anyone tried this? Can you share your thoughts?
Are you from the balkans mate?
Hi there! Yes, I'm from Croatia.

The GOAT oats!
Unfortunately oats aren't nutrional at all due to their phytic acid content. It is a much better option than store bought breadcrumbs, but don't expect to get much nutrition from whatever you use it on. Anti nutrients are called anti nutrients for a reason.
ive never heard the term anti nutrients outside of carnivore dieters trying to explain why vegetables are actually bad for you
@@3p1Kf41L search "phytic acid anti nutrient". I'm not a carnivore.
Might be the case, and there are anti-nutrients in other food as well, I guess making a meatloaf mixture the night before would help.
