Ironically the problem is similar to NASCAR money and fame, sold out. Star Wars faces similar challenges in that it is an established success versus the creative long shot it was in the beginning.

I watched Dukes religiously as a youngster. I would pretend that Bo was my boyfriend and my best friend, Rachel, would pretend that Luke was her boyfriend. I have the strawberry blonde hair and she has dark brown hair, so we "matched. I remember that my mother and I went to a yard sale once and I bought a halter top and some "Daisy Dukes" and wore them. My mother saw me in that outfit and she said "oh no, you are NOT going out like that"! I wanted to see what would happen if I did go out like that. Well, I did, and I got some "hoots and hollers" while I rode my bike through the neighborhood. LOL I got home and mom was pretty steamed. It was the 80's, and it was part of our childhood. I am so thankful to have had you guys part of our lives.

      Hellk Lori,
At the risk of coming off like a perv, which I'm not, did you keep the halter top and "Daisy Dukes"? I ask, because, if I remember correctly, Catherine Bach still has hers.

      Hey John,
No questions, just comments. First off, I really enjoyed The Dukes of Hazzard. I still watch it from time to time, including clips on you tube. My favorite thing about The Dukes of Hazzard was that it was family oriented and it had "cool" cars, and I was always smiling while watching it. Also, I did get to meet Tom Wopat, and Catherine Bach many years ago at two different car shows here in the Seattle area.
I have a diecast car collection, and have the 1/18 and the 1/24 scale of the General Lee. It's one of my favorites...along with the Starsky and Hutch Torino, and the Batmobile.
I just learned of your you tube channel and have subscribed, and also just learned of your music and will be checking that out as well.
Anyway, thanks for letting me say what's my mind, and for all the years of TV enjoyment! -Ken

I always watched it with my dad. Him liking it first was how I found out about the show. I never followed up on any of the actors until I saw John in Leverage as the bad country music producer, which he played very well. Then I started looking up names and bios. John is very talented and is doing a lot of great things. A true American hero...

The Dukes of Hazzard was the highlight of Friday evening for us and I am a native Georgian. My Mother lived in Youth Ga. Between Monroe and Loganville which makes it kind of sentimental to this day for me. I remember arguing in school that your hair was not colored because I had the same long cotton blonde hair that you had.
That show displayed more about country life and hospitality in Ga, better than any other ever has. I want to thank you for bringing families together on a friday night.

Before I stumbled across your UA-cam channel I had never seen a single episode of The Dukes of Hazzard. I was familiar with the General Lee of course and the “legend” that is Dukes of Hazzard but never actually watched it. After watching one of your videos I bought Season 1 and am about 7 episodes in.
    I’m hooked!
I also found out the first 5 episodes were filmed in Georgia, which is super cool. I live in Georgia, so I looked up some of the filming locations and it is amazing how much the places have changed. And then how some places haven’t changed so much. Anyway, glad I found this channel and started watching the show too! Thank you....

The reason why the Dukes of Hazzard is still important to me. My back story quickly. Im from the midwest Iowa to be exact. I was born in 1977 I grew up with my Grandparents till i was 5. Friday nights as far back a i can remember. Was us going out to eat and then coming home and watching the Dukes of Hazard with my Grandfather. I would dance to the intro of the show and sing along. While my grandpa watched. I even got to have a picture of myself with one of touring show cars of the General Lee at the Iowa state fair when i was 4 years old. I lost my Grandfather in 1998 but everytime I watch the Dukes it takes me back to their living room floor as a kid just having a great friday night with his grandpa. Thank all of you for making a show that has been something i still love and a way for a memory of my past always made fresh in my mind. Keep up all the good that you do and hopefully someday i can make it to a Bo extravaganza to see you in person. Im also preodering Christmas cars after typing this to you. Godbless

Mr. Schneider, I was only 10 years old when I started watching The Dukes of Hazzard. My childhood wasn’t exactly a normal childhood. I had a very abusive step father who would beat me daily if he could find me ( I went fishing a lot at the river to get away from him ). I was just a little boy. It hurt a lot. When I would watch your show, it brought happiness to me. I have never felt what a true family was until I met my wife in 1986. We are still madly in love and have three wonderful children. Your show showed me what REAL family was supposed to be like. I loved how you looked out for each other and had love with no bounds. I watched every time it was on. I wanted a family like yours so bad it hurt. God blessed me with my wife of 35 years this year. It didn’t hurt to have such cool cars in the show since I loved cars so much. I have a small collection of real cars. Corvettes and Z28 Camaros. I just want to say, THANK YOU JOHN for everything you do. My wife and I are true conservatives who love God. Thank you sir so much. Gob Bless you and your family.

Dukes of Hazzard was what I grew up watching when I was a kid. Every Friday night me and my dad would go pickup my grandpa and our family would eat supper then watch CBS. The Hulk was on at 7, Dukes came on at 8. When the boring "grownup" show (Dallas) came on at 9 I tuned out to go play. I was 8 when Dukes was first on TV and I always looked forward to Friday nights. Every time I think of this show I think of my childhood.

My brother and I used to watch the Dukes every Friday night. He had a model of the General and he’d ram it into my models and rip them up. We’d chase each other around the house until my parents had to ban us from the show for a couple weeks.
Nevertheless, I still watch the Dukes everyday. I work from home and have the DVD’s playing in the background to make the day go faster. Definitely my all time favorite show!

What dukes of Hazzard means to me....... FAMILY. Every member reminds me of family we all have an uncle Jesse or a beautiful Daisy. A Penny pinching boss hog or a nit wit Roscoe in our family. Some of us are like Bo and Luke we may be cousins but we are like brother's and sisters. That show was such a tight nit community and family. That's why I still watch the dukes of Hazzard!

My best memories are sneaking out of bed to watch, then the reruns as I got my license. I don’t know how many people I told I found a place to actually squeal tires on dirt. I had an uncle Jessie truck in brown. Then I remember riding in chargers doing it. A 318 and 440 both with floor mounted automatics.

I think the Dukes of Hazzard was (and still is) a succesfull show for a few reasons. At first, I think the mix between action (adventures) and comedy is great. It is also a series about a stable family (Uncle Jesse, Luke, Bo and Daisy), who respect and love each other. They help each other and support each other (nowadays some people are more individualistic). And the show is about enjoying the ‘simple life’: we work hard, we sit together and eat, we enjoy nature and care for each other. No phones, careers, TV’s, tablets etc.to distract us. A lot of people want to live like Bo, Luke and Daisy :) I still love the Dukes!

If you're watching this too Tom,Don't feel bad, I can't swim either. But for me it's cause I had tubes in my ears when I was little and it has cause a thing where I can't stand water going into my ears. Thus I never learned to swim as a kid or ever. Was great meeting you in Akin.

I learned how to drive out in the country, my uncle owed strawberry fields. That's where I learned how to drive, I did almost everything in the show... Also, my sister dated a guy named Steve Buckley, who happened to drive the cars in "Smokey and the Bandit." I can drive the wheels off a car, if I wanted to.

Think about it all the shows from the late 60s to early 80s that took on a life of their own . That still do well in syndication. Dukes , emergency , chips , Adam 12, and so many more . Good family tv shows .

Question: Did you and/or do you today have a friendly relationship with the actors who played Coy and Vance, and do you think that part of the history of the show had anything to do with the ultimate result of the show ending after 7 seasons?
BTW, I love that you take the time to do this channel and freely speak your mind respectively. It's the ultimate sign of life imitating art, John Schneider emulating what the Dukes were about.

    • @JohnSchneiderStudios

Bance has passed, sadly. Coy/Byron and I have been friends since long before Dukes.
Actually I believe that the studio was coming up to a big negotiation period at the 7 year mark and had little respect for the ahow or the folks who made it. We were top 20 when not picked up so I really don’t think the Coy and Vance era had anything ro do with it.
      Thanks for the kind words.

@@JohnSchneiderStudios I have to ask then, didn't it upset you at all that a friend was taking that role in lieu of what your and Tom's goals were? I apologize if I'm incorrect, but any sources I check indicate that you had disagreements with royalty fees and licensing of merchandise (which I'm totally on your side about)

John, there was a show you did for a short while with Paul Rodriguez. I cannot remember the title, but along with Dukes, and several other great TV shows, this show was one of my favorites and I was sad when it just seemed to disappear into thin air. Can you tell me where I can find this somewhere?

The episode when The General Lee took some steroids and became a 4x4! Big mud tires!! My brother and I thought we were Bo and Luke ? From the fast cars and trucks, running from the cops 🚓 and getting the girls! From cb radios still to this day put them in my vehicles!! Painting the rebel flag on everything!! Bow and arrow marksmanship!! Dynamite 🧨 only once? Got in real bad trouble for that one! Jumping my moms delta 88 Oldsmobile across the railroad tracks! Some good music and cold beer at the end of the day on some episode’s! Yeah thank you 🙏 so much for the Duke’s of Hazzard! I’m 45 year’s old now and still love to watch The opening Waylon Jennings Good ol boys song! God bless y’all !!

I remember when the premier episode was being advertised. My Dad was like "I don't know...it's gonna be on too late. You need to be in bed" and "It looks a little too rough to me..." People were genuinely concerned what their kids watched on TV back then... (Now nobody gives a rat's ... ... which is sad.) I remember using the old "all of my friends are gonna be watchin' it" spiel on him, and he caved in and we all sat up and watched it together. He chuckled throughout, so I could tell he was enjoying it too... As it transitioned to 8:00 and became more "less violent", we all tried very hard to be home so we could watch it together. We'd all go to school the next day or even Monday of the next week, and we'd be talking about the last episode. Very grateful for the good times and memories logged watching this show. I have passed it on to my son, who also loves this timeless classic!

I have a question John. In the first 5 episodes was there 2 Uncle Jesse farm houses or just 1? I know there was only 1 farm we see from the outside and I've actually been there. But I've heard that some of the scenes from inside were filmed in another house. I heard it was down the street from the Boars Nest.

Why people keep loving Hazzard? I believe it's the same reasons we keep coming back to Magnum p.i., Miami Vice, Twin Peaks: 1) a great environment, a place you'd like to be. 2) You can identify with how protagonists are and what they do. One of them can be you! 3) A great synergy between the characters; a very good amalgama of different personalities. 4) You can feel you actors were having fun! 5) A super-strong atmosphere permeating the series; music, photography, locations, lighting, etc... 6) Doing what's right 7) Specific to Hazzard: a) a simple way of living and loving we all miss in everyday life. b) Suspension of disbelief as in comics: when you send someone else wrecking a car in a ridge, there are no physical consequences. Nobody gets hurt! It's just fun! c)There's no need for expensive apparatus around you: worn jeans and the love for your cheap, but truly yours, car. d) Good and righteous always wins. e) God is still important and respected. And on this thought: may He bless you all!

Question 4: Having lots of muscle has little to do with being able to swim. In my early 20's I was a bodybuilder and my bodyfat was unmeasurable by 2 methods (water and calipers) yet I went into the Marine Corps, excelled at swimming and got certified shortly after that as a lifeguard with open water (ocean) rescue and survival specialties. One needs to learn to breath shallow and keep air in your lungs. Muscle has a neutral boyancy. Tell Tom to keep trying.
Love the questions, post more. Can't wait to see Christmas cars.

The Dukes of Hazzard was, to me, actually quite a Libertarian show. Folks just wanted to live and let live, mind their own affairs and not hurt anyone, and instead they keep getting forced to fight a corrupt, overreaching government system.

I’m from the South and was raised watching The Dukes. I’m still in the south and still see confederate flags all the time. I know it’s not about hate, for 99.9%, it’s about southern heritage. About saying sir and ma’am, helping someone broken down on the side of the road, BBQ, bluegrass to New Orleans Jazz, opening the door for a lady and when Harvey came through, it was about risking your life to save a stranger. I remember seeing boats with the flag, out there risking everything to save and help anyone regardless of who they were and the news media blurred the flag out of the shot. There is a difference between the North and the South as to how people treat each other. Not saying people in the North aren’t nice it’s just different. Removing the flag from the reboot was a sort of admission by the people who made it that there is something wrong with what it represented in the show and today and that’s why they can’t do the reboot. They don’t understand the South today. They still believe we are all racist bigots Uneducated white guys that voted for Trump because we’re stupid. They just don’t get it but The Dukes of Hazzard did, perfectly.

John it would be good if you and remaining co stars could do a film like 40 years later like a kinda catch up in hazard county and this idea would not be a remake just a catch up film for fans and such
