- I purchased this video from Mr. Best in 1997 which he made the previous year. I converted this from the original VHS tape so you may want to zoom out the picture to sharpen the quality. I receive no compensation of any kind from this video. It is a treasure of mine and hope it brings joy to anyone who watches. If you'd like, please leave a comment as I enjoy reading each one.
I will turn 50 years old this year (2023) and I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this show when I was a kid. Wonderful memories!
Same age and same feels here. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Same age here too. Legends ❤
The same here this show made me who I am. Most of what i did in a car I learned from this show.
I was taking a greyhound to Arizona about 24 years ago and I saw a guy at a rest station and he had the first vehicle from the show on a trailer
I turned 50 last year I grew up on The Dukes of Hazard
R.I.P. James Best. You were a huge part of so many peoples childhood. You were one of a kind.
Thank you for watching the vid and sharing these kind thoughts.
Yes!! He was huge part of my growing up
My siblings and me use to gather together and watch the show❤❤ beautiful memories, he was my favorite!!!❤❤ such a talented star
You got that right never will be a great cast or show as Dukes of Hazard this show was a big part of my childhood always loved James Best’s laugh an him saying to Boss Hogg “My fat little buddy “ or he would do those noises like guchi guchi or something to that effect was the best part of my life watching the Dukes I’ll never forget that thank you for bringing this show to the tv 📺 so many years ago definitely don’t have shows like that anymore please bring shows like this back TV 📺
Daisy was my first crush. Had the pleasure of meeting Sorrel at a convention and he was so nice. I was 4 so I was shocked that JD Hogg was so friendly lol
He played guitar on an episode of Andy Griffith one time.
No actor alive could've played Roscoe as perfectly as James Best.
Couldn't agree more.
James Best was BEST folks!
I really wish people would get over themselves and watch the show to see the real meaning of it it was about friendship and family
I think they'd rather listen to Young Thug and J. Cole with their wholesome lyrics.
I intend to agree with you I got to meet this iconic guy years ago in Charlotte NC he was a great nice fella and I have one of his paintings and he did live in Lake Hickory
That's what happens when you use a terrorist flag on the roof of the general other then that I think it was a great show

James was a massive star by the time dukes of hazard came about. Apparently everyone on the set loved him, Legend
James played along side the best that Hollywood had too offer.🗽👍
Great Man, Great Actor!
Yeah but dukes of Hazzard made James Best who he is for 7 years. I've seen him on gunsmoke I see him on some other Western shows he was always getting shot killed off. He never was the main actor. But James Best to me shows his true acting on the dukes of Hazzard
@@raywhite4146 you're 💯% right about that! Especially if you've ever seen Moonrunners, the movie Dukes of Hazzard was based on. The original "Sheriff Roscoe Coltrane" was a very dull, nearly lifeless character.
What James Best was able to turn that character into is beyond amazing!
@@raywhite4146 , So true, I remember seeing him in many old shows and movies. Amazing, Actor.
This man will always be a national treasure.
As a kid in Australia growing up on the Dukes, I am thankful for one of the most wholesome shows EVER.
Holden GM (Aus) Ford (Aus) Chrysler(Aus) You guys definitely know about racing and hot roddin’. I’m a huge fan of your guys car collection. I feel the same about Mad Max and Road Warrior. I grew up watching those movies.

James Best was incredibly unique and unbelievably unsung. He deserves all the praise and recognition this world can offer. Love and respect!
Thanks for sharing such kind words. Yes, Mr Best was one of a kind.
I remember John Schneider saying that he learned more about acting from James Best than all the acting school classes he went through when he got to Hollywood . Of course , James was well known as one of the greatest acting teachers in the business and even taught college courses on acting .
He always made me smile.
Dukes was a big part of my childhood
Mr. Best used to live near us and would come to the local fair with another gentlemen who had a General Lee replica and play the part of Roscoe. He had Flash (or at least a basset he called Flash) with him one year. He was always super nice and never turned away a fan and loved to talk with everyone. Much respect. R.I.P.
Awesome! ❤
This is epic!! He left his mark on my life forever.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
James, "Rosco" made me laugh quite a bit in Dukes Of Hazzard. Sad to hear he passed. He was such a nice guy.
a 1970's legend. RIP Roscoe !! The show wouldn't have been the same without you. I hate watching all the people i grew up with die. GOD BLESS THE DUKES & COMPANY !
Well said!
So do I. Somehow I stumbled across this video this evening. Absolutely loved the Dukes of Hazzard. I like you hate seeing these beloved actors pass away.
Mr James Best, Actor, gunner in WWII, real action american patriot, a kind and calid human being. He haved a hard life, but he always carried a smile in his face. As Rosco P. Coltraine, he maked me laugh a lot. Great work, in a world where is easier make cry than make laugh. WE LOVE YOU. Hasta muy pronto, querido Tio Jimmy.
James seems like a genuine man, he would have been a good friend to have.
For 7 seasons that was my favorite show, followed by knight rider and Dallas,RIP Roscoe, Boss Hogg, the original uncle Jesse, you were great.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Catherine Bach said that Sorrell Booke was the sweetest man on the show. And John Schneider said that when they told James Best he was going to have to cry in a scene, he would say “OK, which eye do you want to tears to come from?”
RIP to a great man! Had the chance to meet him several times and he was kind and humble! Great memories this man made for me on Friday nights sitting around the tv watching the Dukes!
Thank you Randall. Yes, I remember watching The Dukes every Friday when I was a kid back in the early 80s. I loved riding my DOH big wheel around the block. Great memories.
I cried when I found out he passed. He touched a lot of people. He is so down to earth.
I met em but 1 time at Dukesfest in 2005. He had some AWESOME paintings related to the best show ever made. James was a talent of several trades.
I grew up with the Dukes of Hazzard. Roscoe was always my favorite character, and James Best was in fact the best!!
Seeing Sorrel and James fishing together is something i have NEVER seen before, and i am a HUGE Dukes fan/collector, so seeing some home videos like that is really cool. Its so weird to hear Sorrel call James "Jim" instead of Roscoe. Many of us fans have heard the story of Sorrell doing his lines in Japanese, and that would be cool to witness. All in all, this was a pleasure to watch. Thanks for putting out there to share with fans.
i loved them on the show they always made me laughed especialy when roscoe kept on destroying his patrol car
@@doncook3964 wreckin those cop cars must have cost boss a ton of money. Thats why he was always involved in shady business deals with lots of cash. You would think boss would have just fired roscoe, but boss kept roscoe around cause he was "dirty ruthless." Boss said, "gimmie dirty rutless ANY day."
@@vaccumsealed Boss couldn't fire Rosco cause his wife Lulu was Rosco's older sister and she'd a given Boss about 10 shades of Hell if he did that.
I love Rosco, Hot pursuit Kew Kew i love it i love it, RIP James Best. RIP flash.
Thanks Michael!
What a great actor, teacher just a great human being Rip James,..R.P.C
Wasn't he Quite Tarrintinos acting coach.
i never missed an episode when i was a kid in 79
I wrote to James Best when I got my first email address as a kid, and he wrote me back. I printed it out, and still have it in a scrapbook.
Cool.!
Such a great entertaining show. No foul language needed to make it great. Such a talented bunch of people especially James and Sorrel. Wonderful People!
Man I miss this show!! Used to watch this show in my early teens!! Brings back great memories!!! R.I.P. To all the actors that have passed!!!
He used to come to Lenoir city Tennessee every year to go fishing in the lake . I was very fortunate to have met him and his wife and talk with them . He was a kind down to earth man . He treated everyone with respect regardless of what their status was . I did two caricatures for him one he kept the other one he signed and I still have it . I was able to see and talk with him in Mayberry ( Mount Airy ) North Carolina . I thanked him for for being kind to people that others would not have . I told him I would be going back to Lenoir city Tennessee in two weeks . He said I'll meet you there and he did . Thank you James
Thanks for sharing this!!
I just turned 51. And grew up on this show as well as Dallas the A team Rockford files. Air Wolf and the list goes on ‼️. I haven't owned a TV in 18 years. Ain't nothing on it worth watching like it was when I was growing up ✔️. R.i.p James. You will always be remembered as long as i live 👌
Amazing Actor and Human. Most of us Kids rooted for the Dukes, But there was something Loveable about Sheriff, Roscoe P. Coltrane. Roscoe and Boss Hog, Buddies in Real Life. Just LOVE THIS !! This Show was a Huge part of my Childhood. Jason, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this !!
It has been my pleasure. Thanks for the kind words.
I'm with you on that!
I remember as if it were yesterday, hearing the theme song start playing, and running from the kitchen to the living room, dinner plate in hand. didnt want to miss any of it. the ONLY time we we didnt eat at the dinner table as a family. we ALL enjoyed our meal on Dukes of Hazzard night in front of the Boob tube...
Seeing this comment kinda makes me chuckle. In the pilot and a few of the initial episodes, the whole show was a kind of dark satire on the South. Bo & Luke were a couple of ne'er do well parolees with their gang of misfits who were always trying to put one over on the corrupt powers that be in Hazzard County, namely the local political boss, Boss Hogg and his tamed Sheriff, Roscoe. Yes, you read that right, Bo & Luke were in a gang! A kind of hillbilly mafia to rival Boss Hogg's county syndicate. Also, Roscoe wasn't originally a bumbling, but lovable sheriff. Roscoe started out as the formerly competent county Sheriff who was embittered by the county voting away his pension (it's implied that Boss Hogg had a hand in that), and that's how Roscoe came under Boss Hogg's sway.
It was a pretty dark origin story for all, but once the network execs realized they had a hit, the whole Dukes of Hazzard backstory got retconned to make it more appealing to a wider audience. Frankly, I think that was a good thing given the broad section of people who remember the show so fondly.
Loved it when I was 8 and I’m now 46 and loving watching the re runs with my 8 year old son.. simply one of the best
I remember writing to Mr. Best in 1999 and he included information on this video and what is in it. Now 22 years later I see this video with my own two eyes. Thanks for putting it on UA-cam.
The pleasure has been all mine. Thanks for sharing that experience with Mr. Best from back then.
❤❤❤❤❤ My favorite star 🌟 growing up!!! He was so talented and loved
James best was definitely one of the best people here in 2023 still love him very much including me got the entire dukes show on DVD it's nice to have and seeing all the great moments
This video brought tears to my eyes. 😢James lived life to the fullest. Especially seeing James and Sorrell fishing together. Brought a lot memories back when I was a kid. Thank you James for the memories.
Thanks for sharing that!
R.I.P. James Best. You were the absolute Best! I was a HUGE fan of his for so many years and was soooooo heartbroken to heard that he passed. Guc Guc I'm in Hot Pursuit!! Oh I love it I love it. -S.Rosco P. Coltrane
The Dukes is currently being rerun here in the UK, what a lovely reassuring watch it is in these sad times. RIP James, you’ll never be forgotten.
Thank you for the comment. Greetings from Glenview, Illinois.
I hope there's a way for UA-cam comments to be read in Heaven, because I feel like James Best deserves to know how loved he was and still is. Thanks for posting this, somehow it helped ease my stress levels which have been unhealthily high lately.
Thanks for sharing the kinds words Dave. Glad this brought you joy
My favorite scene with him was when they thought that Bo & Duke drowned & he had to tell Jessie. The way he said they seemed to like it when he chased them & so did he. & Then said that it was never personal while trying to comfort Jessie
I love that scene. You could feel Roscoes pain.
You beat me to it. I was about to say the same thing.
Yeah, even though I knew that Bo and Luke were alive in the episode, I couldn't help but cry as Roscoe was telling Jessie that they were dead. Outstanding performances by talented actors!
Mr Best, You are a top actor, You are very hummber, God bless you...
Met him at a Western show. We laughed and talked for over an hour. Truly one of the classic greats. RIP
Thanks for sharing that Barden.
Did't James Best play guitar and sing? On The Andy Griffits Show baçk in the day. He was a delightful man.
Thanks for sharing with us. Brought me back to happy times when America was still alive and well.
You can say that again!
RIP James. Thank you so much for bringing so much laughter into our homes. My favorite show when I was a kid.
This show was the definition of lightning in a bottle… it will never be matched again… this cast had a chemistry that was incredible!
RIP James "Roscoe P. Coltrane" Best
Thank you for helping make my childhood that much better ❤
Some of the BESR times of my life with growing up and rised by my grandparents it was one most greatest understanding differences to have for the age gap me being born 1976 and my grandpa born in 1925 and my grandma born in 1935 it was that show that made me listen and understand the value of real family and I miss them so much and owe the the world and a world where you didn't have to lock doors or knock people just came in and you couldn't wait to see who it was and the whole neighborhood was like family and the grown ups look out for like parents to . A time in life that should still be here just like Dukes of Hazzard .thank you never seen this before and iit broght back so much needed memories for me ..
I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for leaving such a great comment. I totally agree with you.
He seems like he was a genuinely sweet great guy.
LOVED this show, no matter how corny. I had seen James in a few things as a kid on TV and he was a natural for that show, and the character. The man was naturally funny. Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the (tropical) Boss Hogg. Like a crossover to Miami Vice. Awesome actors, Sorelle Booke and James Best! They will always be warm memories in my childhood as the plucky comic relief of the Dukes of Hazzard
Well said Jay!
I never missed an episode of dukes of hazard … when I was a kid.. we had a toy general Lee and hazard county sheriff car and we used to make dirt jumps and make them jump each other…in 1981 for Christmas that year I got a dukes of hazard go cart.. I drove that thing like the duke boys..my fondest memories is watching the dukes of hazard… so I just so happened to find the dukes of hazard complete series on Vudu .. my 9 year old is loving this show like I did.. I’m so glad I can pass this on to my son ..
Excellent! Glad to hear your kid is loving the show just like we did back in the day. Thank you for the great comment.
He really was the show. Take him out and nothing works. Fantastic talent.
I've always enjoyed his acting. He is and was a wonderful actor! R.I.P.!!
Sad that hes gone.
James was one heck of an actor and also a fine painter. Love all the stories but the Flash story is my favorite....
I love this video of James best he was my favourite in the dukes of hazzard
Thanks Karen!
I remember back in the good old days when James was a very prolific character actor. He was EVERYWHERE and he was outstanding.
Thanks for sharing that Marlena!
One of the all-time great actors I was just a little kid growing up watching him driving the lake every time when the Dukes always played tricks on olel Rosco
I absolutely cannot relay just how important this show was in my life. It was and is my all-time favourite show. I love dogs and every dog I have had has been named after a character in this show. 😎 my current best friend is named Roscoe.
James Best was an really great actor and seems to have been a wonderful human being. Very missed.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Not all whom were in Hollywood are bad, that's refreshing!!!
Grew up loving this show!
How crazy how daisy dukes were riskey back then !
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for leaving a comment!!
Great memories of growing up and when t v shows were pure and good. God love ya and I love ya Rosco P and boss. Thank-you for being a positive influence growing up.
Still love this guy! I grew up and still watch reruns. You'll never beat it!!
What a Great Television Show. I was 8 years old. I tuned in every Friday night at 8pm. I've got tears in my eyes.
James truly was a Best.❤
We used to watch this show just for his laugh. That you for your service 🫡
My dad grew up in in the same town as James Best. The town is Corydon Indiana. On a trip to Indiana from Colorado, my dad and uncle Floyd took me to James Best's parents house which was a block away from the cemetery. We talked to his mother and she gave me an autographed picture of James and Flash. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. She was so nice.
big smile comes to my face seeing Rosco again..loved this man growing up..Memorable Legend ty for sharing
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it.
I was a huge fan of the Dukes, and loved Rosco P Coltrane. His shenanigans with Boss are still hilarious over 40 years later. I've seen few things James did prior to The Dukes of Hazzard, and one of them was as a musician on The Andy Griffith Show. Even the Westerns he did are amazing. I never had the chance to meet him, but if I had it would have been a real treat.
Greatest show ever when my friends were getting in trouble I was home watching the dukes of Hazzard and i have all the DVD series
James Best was always a gentleman. One of the greats of acting and lots of fun on the Dukes Of Hazard!
I wished he showed what a talented guitar player he was in this video. I loved this insightful view into part of his personal life and also into what a talented man he was during his entire career. He was right as being labeled after Dukes of Hazard, because anytime my children would see him on something else, including reruns of The Andy Griffin show, they’d always say, “That’s Rosco Pete Coltrain!” RIP. You left many sweet memories!
I'm in tears. RIP James.
He was AMAZING! Great great actor! Always guaranteed to make you laugh. What a wonderful man!
I miss that man. He is so funny. Just a fun guy makes everyone laugh.
James meant so much to me. he was my idol all throughout high school. i wrote once to him and he answered me back, sending me a print of one of his paintings. i was in college, taking a teaching course when i read the news of his passing. we took a 5 minute break in the course and i spent my break just crying my heart out
Thanks for sharing that story. It made my day
Hot pursuit! RIP James "Jimmy" Best, thank you for making my childhood so fun watching the Dukes of Hazzard every Friday night. Got the complete series and watch it as much as I can.

Great talent.Great actor. Thanks for all the great movies and TV shows.RIP.James Best.
This man specifically made me smile as a child!!!
It's so good to see Mr. James Best and Mr. Sorrel Booke being best friends on and off the set. I was fortunate to meet Mr. Best before his passing... and he was a genuinely kind man. He actually signed a PS1 game for me...and me I remember telling him that my two young boys run from him. "OHHHHHH hot pursuit hot pursuit!!" he'd cry out. My boys loved him, even as young as they were.
He was one of my favourite actors embedded in my childhood memories.
You rocked it, James! RIP!
I think your character in The Dukes was starting in Hooper.
James Best was one of my favorite character actor!! You just can't find movies like the older ones period!!!
There'll never be another like him. RIP James.
Man I loved watching this show when I was a child and boy I never missed it!!!
I knew James was an artist, but I didnt realize he had some of his pieces in the show... COOL!
Fantastic that he took time to do this for our pure enjoyment ! I thought it was original until he got in the car and the dog wouldnt move over hehe
James Best is a legend. He was the best. Miss Sheriff Coltrane tons.
I grew up watching this show I loved it and still do James best was one of my favorite characters
James Best: most charming human being to ever live.

Glad you enjoyed this video. Thanks for watching. Greetings from Glenview, Illinois!
I met Rosco and he was as good as he could be many years later. I didn’t recognize him but I realized it’s him and he was so nice and even in character a bit. He is a great guy
R.I.P. James Best you will always be remembered and loved by my brother and I, along with a world 🌎 full of loyal fans ❤😊
RIP James/Roscoe, thanks for the good times
What a wonderful warm, kind, and genuine man. I remember watching dukes of hazzard as a kid in the early 80’s, it’s also beautiful to see the chemistry between his wife and him. I actually shed tears watching this. It remind me of a bygone era that I mourn in my own little way...
I'm glad you enjoyed this!
