This was my second option, once I thought the travel tripod from peak design was toooooo pricy (lets face it, its amazing)... but before getting it, I've got as advice to get one of those vintage tripods (from Japan or 'Western Germany') The size of those is ridiculous, although they weight a little bit. Don't get me wrong, but this tripod has a huge problem: it takes too much space (and it's quite problematic to carry around on a carry on). So until I eventually get that peak design travel tripod (in carbon fibre, naturally), I will use this vintage (mine i branded as 'pyramiden', but there are quite a few brands around) In a nutshell? This one is good... but there are better my friend! Awesome video and great new channel! :D (the thing I that I try to miniaturise as much as possible my gear, and tripods... are always tricky!)
Hey, thanks for watching! Indeed the Peak Design tripod is terrific, but expensive. For my use, I prioritized weight over size which is why I love this. The carbon fiber keeps the weight down but keeps it solid and strong and, as mentioned in the video, it was the only one I found at the time that had all the features (weight hook, adjustable feet, etc)
I don't think you can find better value for quality and price than a Zomei. If you must absolutely have the smallest form factor, then the premium price tag of the Peak Design is your only option. All the contemporary travel tripods are of this Zomei's form factor....reverse-folded legs around the center column. But they cost much more than a Zomei without much difference in construction. I got my Zomei years ago when they first came on the scene and got a great deal on an earlier aluminum version of the one reviewed, an F series. It came without the spiked feet, and a different ball head that was smaller, but with 3 knobs, one being a ball tension knob. The twist locks used more plastic than the latest model. But my tripod only cost $35.99 new. This thing was worth 3x that price! It has all the other features covered in the review. Hard to find a small travel tripod that can extend to eye level in a pinch. The double center column is like the ones featured on the 3-Legged Thing branded tripods. BTW, one can attach the monopod leg to the center column with an included threaded stud. So, the monopod is at eye level. BTW2: I believe one parent manufactures these tripods, and K&F Concepts is their upper level offering, while Zomei is the mid-level brand. They may also be the manufacturer of Neewer tripods. There are very similar construction traits. The K&F Concepts tripod would have more features and accessories, omitted from the Zomei, like the stubby center column attachment. Either brand is a great value. Solidly made, and as good as any Me-Foto or Manfrotto travel tripod.
