honestly, ive done this for a week and yeah its painful every time, but i can honestly say i can already feel how i can kick higher and also hold balance.. for a 3:39 min vid, theres a lot of useful stuff in there.....!!
Jake I've been watching your lessons from stretching to offensive and defensive moves, I want you to know that you're a very thoughrou instructor and you make it fun and fairly easy to learn your stuff!!! Love the way you teach, sincerest best wishes in your journey through this life.Peace
Yes. I don't believe that 1 stretch has the secret to unlock your hips! It's got to be a combo of warmup, workout, kick for stretch, kick for power, then stretch, then kick again then more workout, then more kicks, then finish with more stretching (like the stretches in this video but also "butterfly stretch" is good for the hips). Then, before you finish, more stretch kicks, more power kicks, then 1 minute low, low, low, low, low horse stance, then more stretch then kick holds for 10 sec! :)
I currently hold an orange belt in Ishinryu karate and although high kicks are not the concentration, it helps in sparring and matches! Your stretches are the only ones on YT that actually point to where I do feel limitations on. I will apply your video instructions and in 6 months put my 2 cents in on its results.
Very encouraging demo. Theres a well known picture of Bruce Lee doing a side kick which I always think is an inspiring. You have obviously worked hard to get your flexibility. Thanks for sharing.
In my late 60's----Can't quite "Hold" that position that high, even AFTER the stretch. But I'm told I do incredibly well for my age. But your video inspires me to work a bit more energetically...See how Far I can go! Thanx.
I have a question, what stretch can I do to open up my hips? Anytime I stretch or throw a kick I feel pain and a sort of "lock up" in my hip area but more on the side where my leg starts (side buttocks area). No stretch seems to work and it really keeps my kick lower than I would like. Any suggestions?
The first stretch goes against the rule of stretching one muscle at a time. More than one will take twice as long to lose tension in due to neurological conflict in the stretch reflex. Poor posture on the side kick. The force of the kick goes up the leg and out the hip because there is the "V" with the leg on the bag. The obliques are worked by keeping the body as upright as possible with the leg up.
I'm just doing one month Taekwondo and i'm 31 and not flexibel at all, maybe just a little bit...should i do this every day on my age...or take one day rest after this training? My muscles hurting like hell lol..
i thought these were just normal stretches , but 1 day i realized that my kicks got higher for some reason then few months later i am now watching thios video and found out there are many more levels of it
Better technique, better flexibility (which results in height and can help with powrt), and speed. Good technique + speed = power. That's how my teacher taught me and it has been working for me pretty well the past 4 years.
I have a question: I'm getting cramps on my inner thigh, and while I've been doing Kung fu for over a year and can kick over my head, it hurts quite a bit whenever I do a side kick and move in certain directions. Anything I can do to stop this?
+Nate Rosenmann water, stretching, more kicks... do straight front kicks until it hurts to the point of not hurting... just because your doing it properly doesnt mean it wont hurt.
+Nate Rosenmann I have an issue where i feel pain and after years of doctors investigation it turns out its due sciatic issues, if it is would suggest doing what i do; face down on bed with head off the side with the chin anchored on the side wall of the mattress so the head is on the same level as the back, similar position as the massage bench for like five mins. hope this helps and see your doctor
Please keep not taking overweight,or underweight people seriously, just keep worshiping johnny six pack. If you're between 16 and thirty or a pro fighter, a lean body is a byproduct of genetics and a decent level of work or extreme lifestyle with the aid of sometimes hormonal or chemical enhancement. If you actually work 40,50.60 + hours a week, have time for strength and conditioning and 10 classes a week of Muay Thai and Bjj and make time for your kids, while maintaining all your muscle mass and youthful appearance and are still happily married. You are superman. I noticed that people quit taking me serious after I broke my neck and back and gained a lot of body fat. Funny thing is those johnny six packs reach a limit of what they can do with attributes and stall out. They run out of tricks and disappear, they quit or they or they start learning from the old broken down " bum" who has been studying 40+ years and teaching more than 30. Something is offered, if you wish to decline, do so, If you see no value in it, it is usually because you don't know enough to recognize that you don't know . Don't worry, stay with it and you might reach a stage of realizing what you don't know , or be happy in the belief that you are superior to others based on what you think you know.
Don't you mean the simplest of actions leave the biggest impact? Like abdominal breathing exercise over everybody's regular lung breathing which isn't as effective and not as healthy?
Kung Fu, has a few very good strikes and certainly very very good training methods,FACTS ! Only my opinion, for street fighting especially, learn from different Martial Arts styles of course from their teathers long enough to understand what works and what does not and add them to your arsenal,Evan if it's only four or five methods.I recommend before you do this, going to take a few years develop your flexibility, strength and endurance.A real Martial Artist is a Martial Artist for life,do not forget your ground game and your footwork. If you practice only one style, you are limited in a street fight, your mechanical, your put in a box and you have to adapt.Rehearsed forms your RYTHEM is broken. When your fight is over and you get home or the hospital, then you can find the CAUSE OF YOUR OWN IGNORANCE.Their is always someone better out there. If their is one thing we must guard against, let it be partiality, that Rob's us of our prestige wholeness, that makes us lose unity in the midst of duality.Their will be no replies back, respectfully,GOD BLESS.
I wouldn't go too far down south or into the big cities if i were u. I came from Saigon or Ho Chi Minh city. I left mainly because it can easily reach 40 c or 104 f in the cites. It's generally VERY hot :|
+Stefan Kovacevic I think it depends which part of taekwondo, wtf is just to sporty, but itf is the real martial art. and I think it compares with kung fu, and other martial arts...
+Stefan Kovacevic I might be able to agree, but it also depends on the person, and how dedicated they are. I do taekwondo, and have been very dedicated! got my first degree a while ago going for my second degree later! I will say I do taekwondo for sport, and honestly if I was looking to do more defensive, realistic fighting (more like if I had enough money) I'd probably pick up on kung fu! I will have to say taekwondo does have good kicks, tht definetly compare! so I will say kung fu is better for real life situations
+Stefan Kovacevic I watched the video where Joe shat on tkd, he was wtf not itf, itf does incorporate arms, and practices self defense! I do wtf which I will admit is the shit end of tkd, but I like the sport
What lol this is like fundamental stretching/exercises for kicking that's been used in a variety of martial arts haha Jake is actually speaking some good ish here lol
Dr. Law nobody is a master. We can train our whole lives and there will always obstacles greater than us. One of the greatest we face is abandoning ego and embracing humility. I believe he has humility. Maybe you should acquire some hm?

Thank you so much! We have a whole lot of new one's coming out this weekend!
Jake is good at this. As long as he sticks to fitness and conditioning advice instead of self defence, he is great.

I've never kicked a bag with a floor base like the red one in your school. Do you ever have a problem with it tipping over?
I can Do that too! It's effective for Improving power to Kick!

What do you suggest for working on splits when someone has never done then before? The would help increase power and stability in my kicks. Right?
Cool!! NICE TIPS :)

hi friend...kindly share your video of your real fight
Can you recommend a good master in the northern Colorado area?
By " better" does he mean more powerful or higher or both?
Better technique, better flexibility (which results in height and can help with powrt), and speed. Good technique + speed = power. That's how my teacher taught me and it has been working for me pretty well the past 4 years.
Is that a weed plant behind him hahahahaha

I like to do the same technique in a real fight, my foot half an inch away from my opponent. Then I release some toxic gas.
Oh my god... you must be one of the technique creators.
Indeea Currylover I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING HAHAHAHH
Indeea Currylover is that the Skunk Technique. I'm pretty good with the Toxic Gas part, but I have to improve my leg form.
Don't you mean the simplest of actions leave the biggest impact?

You can do it! Or, go to a park!
