I've run live sound for a lot of groups, and bluegrass by far is the most challenging but also the most pure and satisfying I have ever done. The hard line traditionalist would only do acoustic with no pickups...... only mic's, which always added its own set of challenges...... before in ear monitors, and plugins and digital consoles.....My goal was to make live sound exactly like studio. What we are hearing on this video may or may not have been what it sounded like live, but I bet it wasn't too far off! This is some of the best bluegrass I have heard! It would be a dream job to mix live for Dan!
I was touring the country , when Dan was mostly with Allison, And every one knew she was the top act in the country. Why do you think she had him relieve her as a singer when she needed a break on those long gigs . She was'nt going to hand the stage to anything but the best. Yea, his musical and vocal talent is hard to march , even by the cream at the very top.
This is not live! You can see they're not singing backing vocals, but you hear the backing vocals at 0:47. No slight on Dan and the band. They're awesome.
