My new favourite UA-cam channel! No stupid music, no silly cringe/humour talking, or unnecessary verbal babbling, no begging for likes, etc., etc. Just a man fixing machines. Brilliant!
I'm 58 years old and I consider myself a pretty decent mechanic... I gotta tell you, this kid's got a pretty good set of skills under his belt. I've watched a handful of his videos and he seems to know a little about everything. I hope he sticks with it and I hope his channel grows.
One of the many things I like about your videos, is that you don't edit out your mishaps och failiures. That's how we turn self confidence into encouragement: "If such a skilled man make mistakes, then I too might try something difficult."
What % of mechanics would've quoted a client $1000s for a rebuild without doing what this dude did? This is an excellent video, very educational, love your content Simon, keep it up.
Wow ! It’s actually not easy to find someone to work on a carburetor- I’m shocked someone on the younger side can ! Now that I think about there isn’t even a ton of people that can drive a manual anymore !
you know what makes these videos so good is it shows the everyday dignity and passion of a person doing what he likes....its what a good life is all about.....good stuff....
I had an 82 f250 same powertrain in high school only in blue exterior/interior. I bought it for $500 and beat the ever living tar out of that thing. It still ran like a sewing machine til it lost spark. I didnt know mechanics so well at 17 & didnt have any place to store it so i ended up junking it. Now i know it was likely the dura spark ignition box or module. Wish i had that old girl still today almost 25 yrs later...Thanks for helping bring back the memories!
Simon I watch your videos, man I love the way you fix things like No problem,I started looking the one with de red gran torino You are good, hope you read my coment.
Yeah all of those old fords sound the same as i had one for years and the worst thing for them is to sit and not drive them foot on the floor and those straight 6 300 you just can’t kill them the body will fall off and apart long before the engine dies i have literally pulled 4 full hay wagons and a load of firewood in the back and she loved it mine was only a 2 wheel drive but i had tire chains and i would go places that 4 wheel drive trucks couldn’t but yeah you have a good old truck give it some Lucas and a oil change and run her wide open and she will love it lol find yourself a good body and frame and you can swap it over but otherwise you have a good truck for work or whatever you want it for especially because it is 4 wheel drive put some 44 mudders on it and run her in the mud she will take it
I fell in love with the ford straight 6 after I worked on the '78 f150 that's my channel, knew I had to have one. I'm definitely going to be putting this thing through the dirt and mud soon enough.
My last Ford was the 1986 with the 3 in the tree the last year they did the 3 in the tree straight 6 Unfortunately it rusted away But it was a reliable old truck.
I had a 88 F-250 with the fuel injected 300 six and the HD granny 4-spd. We heated exclusively with wood back then and I cut all of it. I could load the bed with green oak and hickory all the way up to the top of the cab and overload a 16ft trailer behind it and the truck just didn’t care. I imagine if a state trooper ever saw me he would have thrown the book at me. It was so simple to tune up and change the oil in too. I got into a serious financial bind through no fault of my own and had to sell it. I’ve missed that old truck. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado with a 5.7 SBC in it but it’s not the work truck that old Ford was.
dude, more good stuff! I'm working my way backwards through your vids and loving them ... you're definitely encouraging me to dig into some of my older vehicles
Just found you and subscribed. I am 48 years old and have saved a couple of vehicles people were sure were "dead" myself. So awesome to see a young person like yourself doing the same. I hope I can get my sons to watch and be inspired.I can't help but wonder if you had some schooling in mechanics, as some of your fixes are more technical than they appear. If not , you have an amazing mechanical gift, keep doing what you're doing and good luck!
You are an amazing mechanic. I had a good friend of mine that God took to soon he would put a broom stick to the engine and he would tell what was wrong. Thank you for this video. God bless
Dude, your videos are the best! I drove one of these old Fords, the brake lines and water pump exploded the same day. Overheating and rust ended that truck. Love the Yamaha too. Keep up the great work my fellow Minnesotan!
Sounds kinda like a diesel, almost 12 valve cummins esque. That and the lack of idle clacking makes me very glad the noise wasn't the engine self destructing.
Those 300 six were excellent engines with great histories. As long as they had pretty good compression, they would run and run. I was so pissed when they quit making that wonderful reliable engine.
I just watched Red Bears Garage do what you did to same 2bb Motorcraft carb. However theirs was still flooding or running super rich. You saw is dripping fuel inside the carb. They equated it to needing a new intake gasket. I have the same problem and need to do a carb kit. This video is super helpful!
I loved watching your work here Simon. What a great revival. I didn't figure out what the cure for spark knock was. I have never heard that phrase. Many of the things you did here, were the kind of jobs I watched/helped my Dad do back in my younger days. I was never going to be the kind of ace mechanic he was. Anyway, I will try to look up spark knock. So happy it turned out that the engine is a good one in this truck. It's a great truck right? I love the straight 6, 4x4, and then two major creature comfort items that look factory, AM/FM and A/C. Super cool truck. Thanks again. I will keep watching.
I Simon, I too have a 1983 Ford F250, but mine is a SupaCab with the 351 Cleveland 2WD. I am in the process derusting it lol. Hope to see more on this one. Cheers Peter from Oz
I found your channel when this specific video popped up in my feed. I then went back to the beginning of your channel to start watching all of the videos in order. I love that you show your mistakes and struggles like the rest of us. Great cinematic shots/angles. Just suggest adding more lighting in future videos.
Thank you. Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out a good lighting setup. That’s one of the reasons I work in the street in recent videos, good natural lighting.
So all that from spark knock...way too much advance.. good job. I was wondering when it was cranking jerky like that. At least you got the vented cap. A wet cap will pull that trick on you too.
With the base timing set correctly, the engine would spark knock under light-mid throttle (when the vacuum advance kicks in). Without the advanced connected, it didn’t knock at all, so I adjusted the advance down some. With factory components, the vacuum advance was probably set fine. I think there are other issues causing spark knock, maybe lean running. It’s something I’ve been meaning to look into further. Limiting the vacuum advance is more of a temporary fix. Hopefully my explanation makes sense
Nice work! You must be a cat-man, I think that is 3 different cats I've seen at end of your videos. Cats are the best, we have 2 now, lost our 16 year old yellow guy on labor day.
Wanted one of these since I was a kid. Only reason I haven’t bought one yet is I have no clue what I’m doing, and I’m all on my own. Think I could still manage to figure out what’s wrong with one of these if I bought one? lol
I haven't quite decided to go that route yet. My goal is to turn bolts and make it look satisfying, and do my best to explain only visually. If people would like an explanation on a specific thing, I hope they ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.
I still don't know if that was the actual issue. Limiting the vacuum advance made the knock go away, but I have a hunch that the engine is running too lean and that's the real problem. I plan to investigate it soon
Hey Simon another good video I just seen this one so just letting you know hey if you want to get rid of that old Ford let me know I might be interested in it keep up the good work I enjoy watching your videos it's very relaxing to know somebody else out their nose and stuff that I know appreciate it brother thank you
My new favourite UA-cam channel! No stupid music, no silly cringe/humour talking, or unnecessary verbal babbling, no begging for likes, etc., etc. Just a man fixing machines. Brilliant!
Vc disse tudo. Concordo plenamente este é exelent canal. Abraço

Good job on your editing. Great nonverbal communication and humor.

Great camera work and editing. Thanks for not killing us with the real-time unscrewing of hundreds of bolts.

Thanks for sharing your experience with practically the same truck! Sounds like you at least got your money’s worth out of it.
Simon I watch your videos, man I love the way you fix things like

Thanks for sharing a great story! I'm glad to hear that this truck is probably capable of much more than what I can throw at it.
dude, more good stuff! I'm working my way backwards through your vids and loving them ... you're definitely encouraging me to dig into some of my older vehicles
I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said, except SWEET XS400! Cheers from NH.
Thank you!
I had an XS400, this is a an earlier 360, same sweet 180 firing order motor family.
Just found you and subscribed. I am 48 years old and have saved a couple of vehicles people were sure were "dead" myself. So awesome to see a young person like yourself doing the same. Wow, clean the plugs and rebuild carb and sounds brand new
5:57 Riding in the cold. God bless you. That’s something I just can’t do anymore I’m too old for that shit.
You are an amazing mechanic. I had a good friend of mine that God took to soon he would put a broom stick to the engine and he would tell what was wrong. Thank you for this video. God bless

Ouch...
Thanks for the support!
Enjoy your videos, you have a talent for capturing your work in a compelling manner.
Those were the days when you just climbed in with the engine to work on it. Great channel.
The video quality is top notch , all the best with the channel .
I am really enjoying watching your videos. Well done, fella. True inspiration!
My first truck was a ‘63 Ford F100. It had a 240 6 cyl 3 speed on the tree. Granpappy to your truck.
Very sharp
Thanks for sharing Simon. More I say, more please!
Sounds kinda like a diesel, almost 12 valve cummins esque. That and the lack of idle clacking makes me very glad the noise wasn't the engine self destructing.
Kiedy moje samochody są naprawione, albi czekam na części to oglądam ten kanał.
I once had a 1985 F250 300 six in line and manual gearbox. A strong car that was practical. I liked the car very much.
Those 300 six were excellent engines with great histories. As long as they had pretty good compression, they would run and run. I was so pissed when they quit making that wonderful reliable engine.
Coming from a Chevrolet guy this is the toughest combo every
Had a 1986 straight six 3 in the tree Love the 3 in the tree you can drive 2nd gear all day long And for a 6 cylinder it was a fairly torque truck.
Great quality videos and content!

Cool! I'll have to get to de-rusting mine eventually...
I had a e150 van 1992 with 300 six 334ooo miles still ran good when i sold it tough as nails
Knew it was a 300 as soon as i heard it sounding like a diesel. They are loud. They rattle. Put thicker oil in youll be alright
Great troubleshooting and skills Simon 😊
Watched the fixing up and old truck vid first. Then came to this one. Great content. Watching the work in that carb 😮 immediately subbed.
Rock on!
Hello from Russia. Well done!
I found your channel when this specific video popped up in my feed. I then went back to the beginning of your channel to start watching all of the videos in order. I love that you show your mistakes and struggles like the rest of us. Great cinematic shots/angles. Just suggest adding more lighting in future videos.
I have two of these lights and use them all the time.
Thank you. Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out a good lighting setup. That’s one of the reasons I work in the street in recent videos, good natural lighting.
I agree, nice job, you have a new follower, Thanks
I had a 71 CB 450...thing was fast and a tank...I crashed it too many times to count on old cracked tires...hehe
So all that from spark knock...way too much advance.. good job. I was wondering when it was cranking jerky like that. At least you got the vented cap. A wet cap will pull that trick on you too.
Congrats great old school style!!!
"Tow truck" is not in this guy's vocabulary . I like it
Love how he sees no oil on the dipstick and then proceeds to drive it anyway 😂
Awesome truck Simon! Looking forward to what you do next on her
Thanks!
Hey, great video. Could you please explain how you knew that adjusting vacuum advance was needed?
With the base timing set correctly, the engine would spark knock under light-mid throttle (when the vacuum advance kicks in). Without the advanced connected, it didn’t knock at all, so I adjusted the advance down some.
With factory components, the vacuum advance was probably set fine. I think there are other issues causing spark
knock, maybe lean running. It’s something I’ve been meaning to look into further. Limiting the vacuum advance is more of a temporary fix.
Hopefully my explanation makes sense
@@SimonFordman Thanks a lot. Looking forward to next videos.
I didn't realize how bad the knock was until you got to the gas station and I realized it wasn't a diesel.
Nice work! You must be a cat-man, I think that is 3 different cats I've seen at end of your videos. Cats are the best, we have 2 now, lost our 16 year old yellow guy on labor day.
Great video
Thx
S
Great channel great work congratulations.
Where did you learn all of that?
You gained a new sub
I really like that 4-door 1965 Ford (Custom?) ! Wondering what engine is in it? Sounds good.
your videos are very well done. The choice of cars too. I follow you here from Brazil What city do you live? big hug
Wanted one of these since I was a kid. Only reason I haven’t bought one yet is I have no clue what I’m doing, and I’m all on my own. Think I could still manage to figure out what’s wrong with one of these if I bought one? lol
Hello Simon, your work is very good, excellent video editing, ask, what camera do you use?
Nice. excellent qaulity. Do you ever talk to explain things to subscribers?
I haven't quite decided to go that route yet. My goal is to turn bolts and make it look satisfying, and do my best to explain only visually. If people would like an explanation on a specific thing, I hope they ask in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

😂😂😂😂😂
It happens all the time when u r tired n in hurry.
Love from IRAN
Great truck 😊
Where did you learn to wrench so well on just about anything relating vehicles?
Sorry where did you learn to wrench so well?
Awesome truck! Is that a 300CI?? Didn't think you could get them in a F250.
300CI and a manual is the dream setup
Nice enjoy the video just work no talk
I too am a fan of the motorcycle to buy a truck method
Geacias por tus videos son muy buenos e indpiradores para que uno se anime a hacer cosas mecanicas
Saludos desde la ciudad de México
Only guy in the world working on an old truck wearing a leather strap watch and a jacket with white sleeves and Uggs boots!
Hey don’t knock the Muggs! Making me want a pair now.
Minnesota, always cold and bad weather. How can you stand it?
👌👌👍👍😊😊 Well done! Thanks for the video.
I miss my 84 f250
Now imagine this channel but he works on Teslas and other EVs.... boooooooooooring 😂😂😂
Amazing content keep going and posting.😊
Enjoy the video no talk just work
Big and old truck, a big broblems...
Hi Simon
Hi jorgen
I'd say that engine is toast now lmao
Haha, it's all full circle now
Muy buen trabajo 💪💪
hi Simon! Hey what do you do with the vehicles you buy and repair? is it for profit or just for fun?
How many times have I scrounged around on the ground looking for the runaway screw? Let me count. Sorry. Ran out of fingers and toes. 😂
So good
Caracas vei, muito top o vídeo
Hey friend, didn't that model of motorcycle come with electronic ignition?

I suggest to watch a few videos of the lockpicking lawyer - you will quickly learn how to pick a simple motorcycle lock.
What did you pay for this beast? I'm often surprised at what different cars are worth in the US.
انت مهندس ممتاز 💪✌️
Depressing place wow
Man, if only you could have dropped the oil pan you might have been able to save this engine.
Let's work on a greasy old truck in a white jacket
So ignition distributor was causing the knock? Vacuum advance trouble right?
I still don't know if that was the actual issue. Limiting the vacuum advance made the knock go away, but I have a hunch that the engine is running too lean and that's the real problem. I plan to investigate it soon
these videos are fucking dope. Inspired to do my own shit now
Hey what’s the rod you’re using to listen to the motor at 24:27? My dad had a 79 Ford and that sparked a memory but I can’t place it.
Pretty sure it's the crank for the jack.
Manual hubs....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Simon another good video I just seen this one so just letting you know hey if you want to get rid of that old Ford let me know I might be interested in it keep up the good work I enjoy watching your videos it's very relaxing to know somebody else out their nose and stuff that I know appreciate it brother thank you
I can relate
Молодец американец. Навыки очень опытного слесаря по ремонту автомобилей. Когда успел приобрести опыт? Ты такой молодой.
That engine has been neglected of oil changes,,The damage is done,,
Falta um pouco mais de iluminação e não sei porque você não espera o óleo do motor escorrer todo.
