Ch G+ Your comments assume they are all murderers. Don't be stupid, in order to pretend you have a point. Part of the outrage is that in the same society, where people serve many years for relatively minor offenses, many Supremacists get to walk free, simply because they committed murder "in service" to a city/state agency. Pretty sure THEIR victims would've liked to grow old; or in some cases, at least make it to their teens!!!
Getting old doesn't suddenly make you a good person. Getting old doesn't give you immunity to consequences. Getting old doesn't reverse the damage that you have done. Many of their victims were never given the opportunity to get old.
Getting old and being taken out of toxic environments does bring clarity and change for many; however, their incarcerated self, looking back, would never do what their former self had already done. Your point isn't completely wrong through concerning some prisoners if I am being open-minded and fair.
Reminds me of Nietzsche. The weak are not virtuous, they’re irresponsible at best and parasitic at worst. But giving mercy because someone is simply disempowered is injustice to the wronged.
And is society supposed to care about them? Fine then, release them. The majority are murderers anyway, so let them die on the outside at no cost to the decent people who DON'T go to prison.
Exactly,, they will be release to a society they have not paid into social security or retirement , to be a further drain on society! You have college students that cannot afford to attend college, you have military members that cannot get housing or health care. You have a government that is afraid to hand out the death sentence. You cannot "fix" everyone you just can't. I really don't feel sorry for these people.
@ThoughtCrime just become someone is old does not make them capable of commuting another crime, just last month a 65 year old man was released from a local prison because of covid concerns, he then proceeded to go to his ex wife’s house and shot her twice in the head, along with her new husband and their 2 children. This was literally just down the street from me and I heard the damn shots when it happened. The guys back in prison but he was already in previously for murder. Most people don’t change.
@ThoughtCrime That is a good argument but as the gentlemen below commented that an elderly man was released because of covid concerns and then murdered someone else. It is a shame that these types of people have made a choice of taking another persons life but it is what it is. We as humans are taught these things and there needs to be consequences for their actions. Yes it is at taxpayers expense but we pay for a ton of other useless things.
@ThoughtCrime I have worked with elderly people at a nursing home and I can tell you that feebleness doesn't mean they cannot do harm. I was in the ER after an elderly woman attacked me.

I am a nurse and I worked at a state owned hospital for 13 years. When an inmate needed to be in the hospital, they came to my facility. We had a fully locked prison ward, but when an inmate needed ICU or speciality care like chemo, neuro, cardiac, or specialty nursing, they would be transferred and would have 1 or 2 guards with them at all times when off the prison ward. In the ICU, many times I took care of these patients who were in comas and on life support and yet they had to have a guard at the bedside and be shackled to the bed. Out of the ICU, I took care of many inmates who were alert and awake, and I would interact with them. It was against policy for nurses to know what the inmates were convicted of, but sometimes the guards would tell a nurse if they asked. I didnt want to know, and I didnt care. To me, that person was my patient. As long as they treated me with respect, I would give them the high quality nursing care I was trained to give. Now if they were disrespectful, that didnt mean I would give them substandard care, but I would not be likely to sneak into the kitchens at 2 am to get them some extra pudding, or get them a soda instead of water if they were thirsty. What surprised me was how polite, kind, and grateful the inmates were when I took care of them. To get a treat of pudding or ice cream at 2am was just not something they were used to. I cared for them without judgement, without duress, and with their dignity and comfort in mind. They would always say thank you to me. They never got mad at me, even if what I was doing hurt or I had to say no to a request because it was against medical orders. I had them tell me time and time again that they were not used to being treated like a human being instead of a number. Sometimes they cried with me, and some of them died because it was their time. They were not allowed visitors, and for several of my inmates, I was the person who was with them when they died because there was no one else. I understand both sides of this argument, but I just wanted to share my point of view and story. Thank you.
Yes same here. I looked after a prisoner in ICU who was brain dead. His organs were up for harvesting. He was shackled to the bed. On a ventillator etc & 2 guards all the way to OR! Bazaar situation😞
It’s hilarious how we somehow HAVE to have some form of sympathy for these inmates. I have sympathy for their victims. The victims they killed, raped and screwed up for the rest of their lives. Very hard for me to feel sorry about a murderer locked up for life. You growing older doesn't magically change the past or the severity of your action. You're not just locked up because you are a threat but also proportionate to what you did.
@@jahmanborneo1343 What about the child molesters that raped and murdered children? Just because they did that when they were younger gives them a pass now?
The 100 yo man, murdered 2 women when he was in his 80s, he's done a little over 20 years, no, he's not served a lifetime. At a 100 yrs old, he'll be fine where he is, and justice is served.
Yes Ma'am, agreed. These are heinous murderers who belong behind bars. No one seems at all concerned about the lack of compassion and dignity these inmates showed for their victims and their victims' families.
Well, the "lock them up and throw away the key" people certainly got what they wanted. Except safety and peace of mind in their own lives. And a belief in a better future in America, both for themselves and their kids. They didn't got that.
You said what was on my mind. I would go home daily with new bruises and markings from them attacking. I even had to get tested from MRSA because a resident attacked me who had it and clawed me. One event told me that they would kill me if they could. Elderly aren't as feeble as people like to make them out.
That's bullshit. Life long sentences for stuff like three strikes drug offences is barbaric, nothing else. Reintegration and rehab should be the norm, not 'revenge'.
Lots of times when victims give their impact statements, they say they want the person that hurt them to "rot in jail," or "die in jail." That's what's happening. Sure, you see these old guys and it's easy to feel sorry for them. Then you realize they chopped someone up in pieces, or killed a kid or something awful, and it gets harder to feel sorry. Maybe if they didn't hurt anyone when they committed their crime, I could see letting them out when they're old and sick. But, if they murdered someone, that changes things. After all, their victim didn't even have the chance to grow old.
I agree. Look in some south America countries where prison sentences for pedos or even serial killers are limited to something like 15-25 years. I'd have to first know what crime the old and suffering inmate committed and then base my empathy / sympathy on that. If he raped and murdered a 10 yo girl then I'm not going to feel any sympathy for him.
You have no idea what these guys are in for, they could be in there for non violent offenses like drugs. Yeah, the extremely violent ones, the psychopaths, child molesters should never get out. The situation is rarely ever black and white however, and painting all criminals with the same brush is intellectually lazy and ignorant.

Source Dasher Source Dasher your argument fell apart when you started threatening and insulting me. If you cannot have a civil discussion on a topic then don’t discuss it. That being said calling all murders psychopaths is a generalization and premeditated murder is different from in the moment murder, and sentences are different. There are plenty of cases where someone killed another person in the heat of the moment and felt genuine remorse. There are plenty of murders who have changed their lives after being released. By generalizing you are missing the bigger picture of crime. Prison is for reform. Serial killers and terrorist are the only people that by default get life on life sentences.
@@unostopcardxd7199 I worked for almost 30 years in the criminal justice system. The folks who commit these crimes already know there are consequences. As the old saying goes, "if you do the crime, you do the time." A major problem today is the lack of a moral compass. So many of the prisoners I've dealt with were beyond rehabilitation and they far outnumbered the ones that could be rehab'd.
Patently false. Everyone who's never been locked up always has to run their shit horn about how "prisoners got it made". Probably wouldn't be able to handle one day in population.
That a felon with "no one to pick them up" gets spoon fed while his free counterpart lays on a sidewalk somewhere is an outrage. This does NOT make me feel sorry for old prisoners. It makes me angry about how we treat our free elders.

I gave him a bath and he went crazy on me. He was a very funny guy. This guy in the documentary is exceptional. Very rare to see inmates care enough.
Anyone who works in this kind of environment is truly dedicated to the job. An orderly here could easily find a job in many "easier" facilities. He's here because he wants to be there. I wonder if he is a former inmate himself and was able to find a successful path in life and then help the people who he could have become. As many commentors have noted, these inmates are most likely getting better services in prison than they would at other state run facilities. These men have no family left willing to care for them if they have anyone at all.

The elderly "uncle" who molested me was far from helpless. I've been married 19years now to a wonderful man and I still wake up screaming in the night.
I shared a room in the hospital with a elderly prisoner that was in this category who had a stroke. I was in an accident and transported to a local hospital. I ended up in a room with a guy, chained up in the bed who had a prison guard with him, he had very slurred and semi-coherent speech, and it was obvious that he was invalent. He was unable to walk, they had to bathe him in the bed. Later when he was discharged, two other guards came in and they strip-searched him (spread your cheeks and all), apparently rolling him around on the bed, they searched his diaper. All behind the curtain for me, which I appreciated. You can tell the guards were just following a transfer procedure by rote, just doing their job. I only saw him for a second when they wheeled him out, this 90lb scrawny, skeleton looking guy. It was a very strange experience. I don't know I have mixed feelings about it all. Watching the documentary, I feel as if they are expecting us to feel some sort of sympathy for these prisoners. This is what an actual life sentence looks like. These are people paying the price for the heinous crimes they’ve committed.
No the taxpayers are paying for their crimes and "mistakes" a prisoner who is locked up at 30 and has a life sentence costs taxpayers more than 1.8 million per prisoner (not including Healthcare when they get older) there is over 55,000 people with a life sentence that's 99,000,000,000$ just in life sentences that dosent count people who received 25-100 year plus sentence that adds millions of people (death row prisoners are the most expensive costing taxpayers 3-8 million dollars) per person most of them spend over 20 years in the court fighting their sentence. The "war on drugs" back in the 1980s when Regan introduced it probably cost the taxpayers in excess of 10 billion between court / prisons and jails/ people that were locked up / still to this day there are people that were locked up in the 80s 90s 00s that got 20 plus year sentences for drug related crimes which is just crazy and cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars over a 30/40 year span. Just like the 3x strike law that created so many people getting 25 plus year sentences even for non violent crimes and that floods the prison system with people that shouldnt be there and crates overcrowding and funding issues especially when you have a prison for 3000 people and you shove 5000-6000 in there and you have people sleeping on the floor in boats

People are so goddamn dumb.
Given the high cost of medical care, nursing homes and life in general, I'm surprised that poor people don't commit a terrible crime in order to get the care they need.
Imagine this man who was imprisoned in 1947 and he would be released. The new world he would see would probably blow his mind. I don't think they should be released but to see reaction of someone who wasn't outside since 70 years ago would be really interesting.
"Elderly offenders cost the state two to three times more than a regular inmate" If they're released, the state will still have to pay for them, they're too old to work, they most likely have no savings/retirement. Releasing them will only spread the burden across several different government accounts.
Prison is a business. These old people aren’t going anywhere. You can keep your doors unlocked and sleep easy knowing grandpa won’t kick your door down, you fucking pussy
@Jesus Gonzalez no. The Nordic system for prisons is much more compassionate. They have actual rehabilitation to help them overcome whatever made them snap.
Ever took a plea deal by pure pression and struggle to maintain a mental health in the face of the justice system ? The worst feeling in the world is being accused of stuff you didn't do and pay consequences that you shouldn't have to pay. I would have had way less trouble dealing with my charges if I knew I actually had done something to deserve it.
The skillastat i have a relative who was put on charge for murder+illegal gun possesion (i'm from sweden, getting a gun is nigh impossible) after a man had broken into their house and committed suicide. It took him 7 years and $2 mil to be freed of the charges since there was monetary pressure from the guys father. he'd be in prison if it wasnt for the several cameras he had in his home since he was extremely paranoid.
If I have had the money to defend myself. Because in this world only your intelligence and money will save your ass. Your relative is smart he/she could have been inside for life. My charges are far from his/her level but I know that getting a cheap government attorney is the worst choice I made in my life. A camera/microphone would have dropped my charges instantly also.
The skillastat social pressure is also rather important, our family head found out about this and that was when the monetary pressure from the father stopped. as for the free attorney, you dont even get what you pay for them.
My family head is Myself and I'm starting to make plans for the future according on how this world works using my knowledge about past very bad experiences. Now I can only hope of building my own business because nobody will give me a job that I want to work for. That may be good, that may be bad. The worst is probably knowing the fact that I can't go back in time to prove I didn't do it. The best is probably the result. One thing that occurs to me is "release them to what"? Nobody is going to want to take care of most of them.
And is society supposed to care about them? Fine then, release them. The majority are murderers anyway, so let them die on the outside at no cost to the decent people who DON'T go to prison.
The state would still be burdened with them, cuz they'd end up in nursing homes. I say, just keep them where they're at.
Sadie Smiles you don’t know what they did to their victims.

The only choice they should get is to be put down once they're old enough. Even then that's a mercy.

Not surprised. They can use other prisoners as essentially free labour and aren't subject to the same economic constraints as in the free world.
Patently false. Everyone who's never been locked up always has to run their shit horn about how "prisoners got it made". Probably wouldn't be able to handle one day in population.

@@mitchmoore44 you can tell he does it well on the regular though
Anyone who works in this kind of environment is truly dedicated to the job. An orderly here could easily find a job in many "easier" facilities. He's here because he wants to be there.
I wonder if he is a former inmate himself and was able to find a successful path in life and then help the people who he could have become. As many commentors have noted, these inmates are most likely getting better services in prison than they would at other state run facilities. The guy probably did something really terrible for all I know.

Life sentence is a moronic, superstitious punishment. You're wasting money just to cause even more suffering for basically no reason.

How can you have compassion for criminals that had no compassion for their victims? This is the closest to an eye for an eye.
You can keep your doors unlocked and sleep easy knowing grandpa won’t kick your door down, you fucking pussy
a bullet is easier
Ummmmm....the government already pays for them regardless. It costs more, because the prison is private and they do it for profit.
Better the pay is in jail and not you are your loved ones paying with your life or their’s.
@Jesus Gonzalez no. The Nordic system for prisons is much more compassionate. They have actual rehabilitation to help them overcome whatever made them snap.
They are in prison for a reason , what scares me , are the one in prison that are innocent
I'm 28 yrs old, I know my value in term of potential but sometimes just shit happens dude and you're poor and alone, no family support whatsoever and you can't defend yourself against the system. Now I can only hope of building my own business because nobody will give me a job that I want to work for. That may be good, that may be bad. The worst is probably knowing the fact that I can't go back in time to prove I didn't do it. The best is probably the result. An intense studying of my environment might lead me to never have to face this again in my life whether it be for me or someone I love. Money is so strangely Good and Bad at the same time.
"Everyone deserves to die with dignity."
Just not the people they raped and murder.

Rape ain't that bad bad of a crime, neither is murder unless it was really detailed
@@Ufc49284 wtf is wrong with you? Those are the 2 of the worst thing you can do.
@@DB-Slugz i didn't say it wasn't wrong, i said rape is not something you should server life for, why do you think rapists get only 10 -15 years? And there is a difference between shooting someone cus you are in a gang and stabbing a baby 13 time cus you felt like doing so
That just means that they state is no better than them.
It might sound crazy, but this jail actually seems peaceful.
