I was in for 20 minutes before some guy offered me a fresh pack of donuts from his commissary. I said I ate a huge meal before I came in. He laid it on the table and said “Just take it for later. You’re not going to owe me”. I had a news paper and started reading. I left the donuts. Never touched them. Late he put them back in his foot locker. I spoke with people, but took nothing. Turns out that guy was actually a good guy who was the toughest guy on the block and he actually seen my fear. He never threatened me. He kept the peace. When I was released I had $14 on my books and signed that over to him. My whole time he spent making sure nobody got assaulted, robbed, or even had a fight.
One time a guy took my cup, which was 5$ commissary and I had never been in jail before and had didn't want to be look vulnerable, so I confronted him all tough and crazy. He was a foot taller and 60lbs heavier but I had a haircut that made me look kinda nuts, and I gave him the wild-i-don't-feel-pain eyes. He handed me the cup and it was tense for a second and then everyone laughed, it was literally not a big deal, people are usually just people OK we had lunch after that and watched TV
He also wrote a book about his unfortunate prison experience. It was a very difficult book to read. Hopefully young men getting into trouble will read it and turn their life around.
It shouldn't need courage and there's no need to be ashamed. He was overwhelmed, there's nothing he could have done to fight his way out of if, and there's nothing he did to make it happen. It's no more shameful than being shot or someone breaking your nose. The shame is all on the people who do it.
Been to prison myself. As long as you're laid back, stick to your group, don't join gangs, and don't start shit with others, you will more than likely be fine. If someone tries to cross you, you MUST ALWAYS be assertive and fight back. Respect is EVERYTHING on the inside. You cannot let any affront to you slide, no matter how small. If you let one small thing slide, it will make you a future target.
Well put. Been there too. Always stand up for yourself and be willing to fight. There are predator's, prey, and dudes doing their own time and minding their own business. The deal is to be the latter. And also someone the predator's know not to f**k with.
I had a client who told me about his experience in Prison.... 5 years for murder (I think he served three), and he said generally the same thing. He was about 25 if I remember correctly. He learned how to become invisible. He was a small black young man who was better educated than most and had been in no trouble before the murder. He had just snapped due to a lot of mental abuse by his girlfriend AND exhaustion from work. The jury gave him probation but the probation department and the judge just looked for a reason to revoke him. He has done OK after prison.
@@jerryneal9006 How about if you can't? If the attacker is much larger, heavier, stronger than you? Or there are two, three etc. of them against you on your own?
Prison is a place of such contradictions. Convicts claim they hate child molesters but a child doesn't last 24 hours without being raped among them, by them.
Your absolutely correct. Unfortunately though the people that run this corrupt business feel like that should be part of a punishment for inmates. How is punishment for a rapist when he is still acting out his sick fantasies in prison with no punishment ? Rape in prison is even a joke in mainstream media, and movies.
It's mostly because of the Brothas. They are 20 times more likely to do this 😢 It's because of a combination of higher testosterone levels and low impulse control
It's sickening that the government puts people in such jeopardy of being assaulted in this manner. No matter what the prisoner has been convicted of, their punishment is a predetermined period of incarceration which does not include being assaulted. The prison system has a responsibility to keep inmates safe.
In theory yes in practice rarely... Most who do time are made worse by their time there plus many are badly traumatized. Nowadays I keep my distance from those who done time because they too often think as if they were still inside sadly
How can the prison system keep inmates safe, no one actually wants to be a correctional officer. It’s one of those jobs people take bc that’s all that’s in their town paying a little more than minimum wage. They are risking their lives around hard criminals constantly…they are just trying to get in and out alive daily. None of those COs are trying to make a difference. They are massively outnumbered by inmates.
I've been to prison I was willing to absolutely anything to prevent this from happening. But fortunately there were really good people in prison who hated rapists of any kind. And they pointed out the people who I should avoid.
Same! I had quit a few bros from the streets in there already and none of that was tolerated. Seen a couple gunners get knotted up with batteries and ran out the barracks. I was never approached like that but I don't come off as an easy push over neither.
Dude I agree. I met some great friends in prison and it became easy to spot the slime bags and cowards. I even actually stood up for people a couples times despite telling myself that was a bad idea. I tried to be patient and understanding and it became easy and I saw a lot of good in seemingly 'bad' people.
Yeah, the disgusting hypocrisy how often you hear "inmates don't take kindly to rpists", yet quite a few of them actually are that themselves inside it.

The guy who introduced the video shocked me with that one liner about his gang rape victim experience more than what the serving prisoners shared. Takes a strong man to survive that shit, acknowledge and deal with it psychologically and then to help others mitigate the potential for that to happen.
Lol wut? You can accept things as a loan if you actually pay it back lol. You're already thinking "what's he finna do when he finds out I intent to never pay back lol".
I know it’s completely different from prison and also I’m a female but we all shared/gave away our stuff all the time. I was going thru heroin withdrawals so some girls offered me their Advils, and I was only gonna be in for 4 days so I was also offered shower supplies since I wouldn’t be in long enough to get commissary. And since you have zero appetite while in w/d’s, I gave away my food allll the time. Well, more like girls would see most of my food was uneaten and ask if they can have it to which I always said sure. Then when it was finally time to get out, I gave away all my supplies to the other girls in my pod. Never once did anyone expect something back; we gave and took freely and accordingly. Got help and gave help without expectations. God, I love being female lol
This is actually such an incredibly empowering video. I am so glad sexual abuse prevention measures can be made in such an accessible and heartfelt way. this has definitely helped SO many people, and I’m really impressed with this prison’s response to this crisis.
There are no words adequate to convey my admiration for a man who could turn such personal suffering into a life devoted to helping others avoid such cruelty as he had to experience.
Well if you ever have to do some hard time, I would strongly advise you to not snitch inform or whatever else you want to call it. Prison isnt high school.
Go into prison for armed robbery with a child’s toy gun, leave prison the victim of gang rape. He came out with more trauma than he came in with, how is anybody supposed to get a fresh start and make better choices when they’re more broken when they came in? Looking at the man I can see he has his life together now, but my heart breaks for what he went through as a young man.
@@ZRBx4 Two wrongs don’t make a right - the inevitable result of crime has to be some form of curtailing of personal freedoms and rehabilitation. Truly, as much as I know there are evil humans who I would happily see suffer - SA can’t ever be the way of doing that, because the person committing that act is turning themselves into that same monster capable of doing something like that. If it’s another monster, but someone who is twisted in the usual criminal way has no qualms about tearing their soul further to punish someone who has committed acts far worse to those who are totally innocent - I don’t see any moral dilemma about letting one monster destroy another. It’s like the rubbish is taking itself out. But for something like an attempted armed robbery? That is an awful thing to do and that is a traumatic thing to put someone through. It isn’t monstrous enough to deserve Big Bubba, almost nothing is monstrous enough to justify that.
@@generalpurpose772 hello there! I was not arguing 2 wrongs make a right. I simply stated if you wanna dabble in the life, you consent to all that may come with it. I feel bad for the truly innocent people who get caught up in mistakes. That’s a tragedy.
This documentary makes it look easy to report but ask anyone in the system how difficult it is. Often times the CO's are part of the problem because they're in on the violence.
From the sounds of some of the prisons, the CO's are absolute demons compared to these police officers people are freaking out about. Why can't the families and friends on the outside get together and start pushing to investigate and sue the correctional officers for allowing rape or stabbings.
I was thinking the same thing. That n the other inmates do see it as snitching. Should not tell other inmates what's happening either. You'll be a punk then to them.

That guy T.J. Parsell wrote a book about his experiences in prison. I read it not long ago and the things he described were absolutely horrific. It's so admirable to see him use his experiences to help others entering the same situation.
The Warden and Officers should be charged, it's their job to run the prison, for rape to be so commonplace is complete incompetence of leadership. these men are sentenced to time, not rape! the state and the entire administration should be held accountable.
An inmate came to my high school and alluded to the possibility of being raped. That was enough to make me think that I never want to go to jail, much less prison.
I was over here bored at home when I heard him say “I was gang raped” Am enjoying being “bored”at home from now on...no need to interact with humans who could send you to prison.
Exactly!! We need to show teens alot of videos like this. So, they KNOW REALITY!! .....Not a bunch of fake thug life on media, online, Hollywood, Sports, All star, etc. Many kids, teens, even young adults are not afraid of going to jail or prison. Only cuz most have NEVER even gone to an actual jail or sub station.
Never been to prison or jail in my life. So far it seems that dropping my ego and pride is working. Not doing drugs of any kind. I also don't drink in public. I don't even chase women anymore. Staying at home seems to be my bread and butter. Books and writing is appealing, I enjoy working out to.
Except that people do not go to prison because they heard it’s fun. Tell me who doesn’t know about m2m prison rape. This is why well meaning people with no relevant education or experience need to be quiet. That’s how DARE burned millions of dollars with no results. You might want to believe that your idea has merit, but you’re an evil person if you prioritize what you wish was true over reality. No, that absolutely will do nothing to prevent a kid from crime. Do you know what the top 5 most influential factors are in determining who ends up in prison? Do you even know what I’m talking about? Why dear god would any of you weigh in? This world needs more men like T.J. People don't realize how many men, too, are victimized. Most of them push it deep down and take out their rage on others... or sadly end their own lives. This man spoke out in such a brave and healing way. I pray more men feel safer in this society to be vulnerable and share their experiences for the GOOD of others. God bless this man
I know two people who were in Prison, when they reported the threat of rape, they were laughed at. The officers turned a blind eye, whike they were being assulted. Sometimes those who run the prison are the inmates !
I heard stories from a friend who paroled from prison, a creep went inside for molesting and killing his 7 year old niece and he was gang raped and beaten daily. Gaurds would transfer him out to keep him safe, and same thing would happen again..Dude was used and abused on the daily.
i saw how that whole scenario play out in a movie called “lockdown.” And i think in American Me the inmates put something in the guy drink and lured him home an empty cell.
Big Ups to the incarcerated men in this video, especially the man who exhibited courage in admitting he was gang raped and sought to educate new ones on how not to be a victim. Great video!
I've never been to prison, but to jail several times, all because of alcohol. The worst part besides the actual surounding was the feeling of lost hope for myself. Anyone reading this, take to heart what they're saying and use it when you're on the outside.
Hmm, that might require taking one's head OUT of of one's behind to start with? Probably easier said than done, because given all I know (or THINK I know), sticking my head up my "four pointed contact" CAN be an escape of sorts....As far as the "smell"?? No problem....I can tolerate the smell of my OWN lower digestive tract more than I can tolerate the smell of other's. 🤣🤣
I find it admirable how matter-of-fact the narrator manages to be, despite his experiences. From his eyes and subtle body movements, you can tell it, naturally, still pains him, but there's no crack in his composure.
Stoic observer Nice comment. Anyone who displays stoicism during hardships gets a lot of respect from me. Your username is the best possible prison and life advice I could give in just two words.
This is really an eye opening experience to hear what these inmates have gone through. Before watching this video, I was convinced they deserved to be treated harshly, now I am convinced no one deserves to be treated so poorly no matter what they have done. I am glad they are working to improve this type of situation. Serving your time without being brutalized needs to be done without fear. I pray for the ones that have been harmed.
What’s extremely sad are that these tips they’re giving about being wary of ppl being nice for no reason, are the exact same tips parents need to be aware of for their young children and the adults around your children. Be extremely suspicious of ppl that seem to be doing things “for no reason.”
You are correct! I always taught my daughter whatever you need or want mommy will provide. You dont need to take anything from anyone whos promising you "goodies". Kids do need to know that.

I spent 13 months in prison at age 36 and it was a COUNTY prison not a state prison. Check your ego at the door, and keep your eyes and ears open until you find friends you trust. The more other inmates see you friendly with other inmates, they'll likely leave you alone. Do your pushups and try to lighten up and not take it so seriously. Don't stare at anyone and always be respectful to both staff and inmates. Say thank you if someone offers you something but never ask for anything. Be polite to staff and they'll be much more likely to help you and give you things. I did very easy time and even tried to help others. I never got in even one fight or argument. It definitely sucks but you CAN make the most of it just by using common sense.
Did you ever hear of or witness rape in a county jail? It's considered pretty disgusting and sickening to practically anybody. I've never heard of it in county jail system. Though in some prisons, there's some pretty disgustingly sick people doing serious time in there, for their own amusement would be very capable of rape.

There should be separate facilities for violent versus non-violent offenders.... but that would require more effort than any state is willing to put in.
Believe it or not but the adult part of jails and prisons are far less worse than the younger kids jails and prisons. For the most part the adults just wanna get it over with and go home but the kids are way more violent and use their time proving they are the hardest kids in the facility (pause). Especially in places like Rykers Island 🤦🏿♂️
I partially disagree. Violent Teenaged murderers, child molesters deserve to be put there. For petty crimes though, I agree they should NOT be put in adult prison.
I'm glad men can speak up about how gruesome the action of rape is, I would hope they advocate for the safety of men and women and turn away from a life of crime
Excellent job. What strikes me is how relevant much of this advice is to the world in general - outside of prison. Predators, of all types, exist in every society. The lessons offered here easily can be applied anywhere.
This is something everyone should watch including middle and high schoolers. Its so easy to commit a crime but get caught and your whole world changes.
I just stumbled upon this video. But found it compelling and watched it all the way through. Someone else stated the people who were willing to talk and help fellow prisoners were very articulate.

I'm terrified for my brother who's in jail because he has a mental disability and very vulnerable. He's coming out soon. I really hope I don't hear this has happened to him.
You’re waiting to hear if anything happened to him after he’s served his time? Didn’t you advise him before he went and visit him in the interim to check that he’s doing ok?
@Pulsonar so you just think I'm waiting for bad news? Obviously I would hope this doesn't happen but as I said, he has a mental impairment, so it's not just sitting down and coaching him once about something and he gets it. Learn a little on mental disabilities
@@algore4u No need to be arrogant and cynical like that man, every mental health case is unique. It would really insult you if I were to make base assumption that your unique case falls into some general category and then I behave with condescending and patronising advice like I got your picture. That’s why I asked questions as I have a brother who has mental impairment too and he distances himself from everyone the last 21 years. That’s why you’re comment struck a chord , my questions m wasn’t to criticise or to be negative, it was to learn, understand and perhaps support from a mutual perspective. My apologies if my comment read different and it got your back up.
You're a passive aggressive a*hole and troll. That's all I have to say.@@Pulsonar
@ali6943 I've been to prison a couple times in my younger days, and turned my life around. 99.9% of the people in there won't pray on someone with disabilities, and most inmates won't respect or allow something like that to happen
When I was 20 years old I did 10 days in jail. To many driving violations! That 10 days was so bad of losing my freedom to me I swore I would never be back. That was 44 years ago, I learned my lesson.
You were abused by society. They crushed you and made you submissive. Congrats!
Don't know why I watched this but wow, I'm glad I did. Very Interesting!
The number of real world (outside of prison) lessons I learned from this is actually life altering, holy shit. I’m really grateful to the creators of this doc

Y’all are young guys? That’s good to know it helps people. Don’t use drugs out here either. Back in the ‘60s and ‘70s there was stuff out here that could be fun. It’s not like that anymore. Y’all got the short end of the stick in that deal, but just let it go and stay away. Your drugs out there today has its own drugs. They aren’t chemists, and you shouldn’t be trusting them to press your pills or mix your anything else. I guess I’m not terrified of green yet but I sure keep waiting to hear stories about them f’ing that up, too.
Me too 😆
You shouldn't have any shame or guilt if you've been raped. It was out of your control.
It doesn't make you lesser then anyone else. What doesn't kill us makes us (stronger).
🙏🧡
True.
I was in a 4x4 & I did what I had to do to survive.
Just watched a vid by a former inmate who had to listen to a guy get brutally raped over rhe course of a night. In the morning the guards found him tied up and blood everywhere, they tased the rapist and the guy had to be carried out. He now spends his remaining time in a psych ward, smears himself with faeces and has basically lost his mind. It doesn't necessarily make you stronger
It’s funny 😂
watch other youtube show, search TURNED OUT PRISON. warden allows their vices, sex drugs because it kepps them "out of our hair" warden allows men be raped in alabama prison. chek it ot
3 things you must do to survive prison.
1-don't disrespect
2-keep your word
3-mind your own business
Oh, and LEARN the phrase " Excuse Me"
excuse me as in "i'm sorry" or what?

@@Frilleon it´s a conversation opener if you dont know the person and want to trabble , just like if you bump into someone on the street excvept 200times more important.
Those are all very good tips, but what about fighting!? Even if you don't disrespect, keep your word, and mind your business - surely someone will test you to a fight or jump you when you first arrive. Or do you avoid fights by applying these three rules? Bc it seems kinda hard to mind your business when they spiked that guys drink with thorazine :(
That's four things, Billy. But that's okay, what you lack in counting ability, you make up for in spirit :3
I don’t ever plan on being inside.
But you never know.

Outstanding presentation from the inmates to the entire staff! My son is incarcerated and we've discussed these exact same procedures. Glad to see your agency being proactive and that the transparency is on point.

I'm going to prison next week. Please wish me luck for the next 15 years.
May God bless you. I am not sure what you did but neither will I judge you. Fifteen years is a lot of time unfortunately but don’t let this harbour your spirit or your passion. What's that crime did you commit?
Sexual predators walk amongst us on the inside and outside...im a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of my father. I know the signs. You never get over rape and the only people who should be exposed to rape are the rapist themselves. Powerful video and some brave stories. I hope those affected are receiving help.
That's f***d . I was abused as a kid from a family member, I can only imagine how it feels coming from your own father. God bless
@@Auudubillahi thank you for sharing your story. I hope you are doing ok. It is incredibly difficult living with any abuse but it is only by speaking out can we expose the abusers. It's hard to put the past behind us but to survive we need to look to the future and not let the past define who we are. Life is short.
Same. Life ruining stuff yet invariably, life moves on. We cannot let those derived individuals win. We must succeed in order for them to have failed

Been locked up you have time to think
The last part "Into something you don't wanna be". Is SO powerful because it shows if you pretend. Usually you'll be turned into that person that you don't wanna be. Because they will portray you that way.
"Just report it to a CO" yeah that is totally fine. I'm sure the predator will understand and just back away.
Nope. Now victims are immediately protected. We COs do not want sofomites hurting vulnerable prisoners. We hate sexual predators more than inmates do.

Its one of the most difficult things to come out sharing sexual abuse. Im a survivor and i appreciate and thank you who share your stories. Especially with men..it seems to go unnoticed. Coming out helps others as well as provides possible healing to you, the victim. God bless ❤
Fair or unfair, men who are victims of SA...should just keep that stuff to themselves (maybe get some therapy in private). People look at men differently when it's known that they are victims of SA. If something like that ever happened to me...I'd somehow find the will to internalize that SH1T and move on.
@paullentz1972 I hear you. I guess it's to each's own. No judgment because I'm not a man and you may know better than myself.

They should release manual "How to avoid prison"

Step 1: Don't break the law
They already have that. It's known as "The Law"
No, they should release, how to avoid getting wrongfully convicted.
Step one show major corporations that prison labor is more expensive than hiring actual laborers
The men sharing their experiences seem like good guys, I wish them the best.
They are in prison so uh probably not. Kinda the point of prison
@@jimathybindlenim6359 True, they did stupid things and got a stupid result/prison. I noticed their self-awareness and how they explained things, calm and cool, didn't drop the f-bomb every 5 seconds. That's different from someone who won't accept responsibility for their actions, angry, defensive, etc. That's what makes me think they can move past their mistakes and get a new start.
Good guys....sitting in prison 😂😂
Don't be fooled.
Ehhh, many psychopaths don't have tells and manipulators are often very charming. So idk. Some of these men have been in prison for 30+ years, which means they did something horrific.
This video breaks my heart. God have mercy on us all.
As someone who lived it - Be extra careful giving even the smallest of things to people who ask for them, that is by far the most common way people get taken advantage of.

I didn't carefully read what he said, he said to people who ask for it. So giving to someone who asks for your stuff is like a positive reinforcement for them asking for more, that makes sense.
