"There's a lot of bitch in every woman, a lot in every man"
-Joan Crawford
"When a man gives his opinion, he's a man. When a woman gives her opinion, she's a bitch"
-Bette Davis
But... Today... Is... Thusrday... I need my drag!!! I mean, loving this review though... But... Draaag!!!!
Brenda Aurora López agreed!
Agreed! I’ve never seen This movie lol
@@brightstarlit Then why the hell do you care?
Theory, the ruler of Thanksgiving Town is Paula Deen! Big boned motherly type who is a fantastic cook but is just racist enough to make you feel uncomfortable if you stop and think about it for too long! I think that's perfect for Thanksgiving!
I need Retro Reviews of ALL the Disney movies.
Alex Gayon I smell a theme month!
Gabe Chacon ...”month”.... MONTH?? More like years
Uhhhh like something like "the goofy movie" would be fabulous
Oh my god love it. If they are there's this vlogging couple called Derek and Liesl and Liesl looks exactly like Avaryl - like to the point they could be sisters. It's weird. They should totally have them on for that.
Uhh... Danny Elfman was in the quintessential 80's art band Oingo Boingo
Wasn't Oingo Biongo in Back to School ,with Rodney Dangerfied. So bad,its good.
Haha i was just about to comment that
traumatic flashbacks to hot topic merch in high school circa '06-'09 ;p
I don't even live in the USA, but I had Nightmare before christmas school bag at 15! 😂
Mauro Gentile Same!
I had a jack skellington hoodie and was only friends with people in guitar class 💀
Now I kinda want Sharon Needles doing Nightmare Before Christmas for that Rupaul's Holy Coleslaw Spectacular.
Holy coleslaw 😂
Well since at the beginning they say boogie is “the shadow on the moon at night filling your dreams to brim with fright” i assume he is more like a free flowing spirit and the burlap sack full of bugs was just a vessel
At 30:08 I realized that behind Avaryl there's the same papper spider that Jack does. You think you're clever, don't you? Love so much this review.
Wow, the spider behind Avaryl is identical to the one Jack makes. Was this on purpose? XD Good job.
Omg, you HAVE that snowflake... Just in black. 29:55
Are y'all doing a reaction to the AS4 cast???
I did. And was hoping they would too. I want to share the link, but I also don't want to disrespected my fave youtube duo by doing something with out permission. Check out my channel tho and leta hope they do a AS4 cast reveal review.
I can't believe they haven't filmed a cast reaction for AS4 yet, I will click so fast
I nearly pooped my pants when I saw you guys had reviewed this! This was my FAVORITE movie as a child, to the point where I would literally watch it, rewind the VHS, and watch it again over and over through the whole day. My babysitter was genuinely concerned. On another note, I was always most afraid of the mayor, who i was convinced for the longest time was actually the villain of the story.
now i need a performance of katya as sandy claws
I watch this every Halloween and Christmas.
Same!
Sleepwalkers is a camp classic. Alice Krige acting at a 10 for the entire movie, her character is a literal cat person and in an incestual relationship with her son, AND killing some dude with a corn on the cob? Yes, I'll take all of that.
I love Andrew's five second O face when Avaryl tells him Sally was voiced by Catherine O'Hara 😂
YUMMY BONEY ZADDY!! I CANNOT!!
MY FAVORITE MOVIE!!! I was not ready for this 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Oogie Boogie song is one of my favorites kind of sad you didn't mention how he read Sandy Claws by calling him ancient and ugly🤣
I think you guys should review the short Vincent by Tim Burton not only the animation but the story behind it is perfection.
My favorite movie of ALL time, changed my whole life as a kid. I mean I probably wouldn't be the freak you see today.
“Have fun kissing those bones”. Insert Jeffery Dahmer joke here.
Because I figured you'd like the trivia.... The spiral shape against the moon is called a "schnecke" and comes from medieval German heraldry. he term literally translates as “snail”, as its curve resembles that of the snail’s shell; in French blazon, it’s termed un gyron gironnant, “a spiraling gyron”. There's your medieval trivia for the day ;-)
Hope you guys are all okay with everything that has been going on!!
I LOVE this film!!
Im in awe... you better like this, I love it! When I was little I saw the cover and begged my parents to see it but they wouldn’t let me because they thought it would be to scary for me. Didn’t get to see it before I was 13 and I was so fascinated with the whole universe and art style choices.
The Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is great for warming up after splash mountain because of that whole hell scene.
The “TedTalk” part killed me. I love that comparison. It’s perfect.
I love you two soooo much! It must be such a fun time to watch a movie with you both. Me and my roommate have spent a good bunch of our evenings going through your backlog of reviews. (I annoyed him so much by watching all the Star Wars ones in a row.) The one-liners are making their way into our everyday lives! (#MrsClausHaremPants.)
Also...I am addicted to your drag race reviews. They're almost more entertaining than the actual show! Keep the videos coming, and I will certainly watch them all!
One of my favorite Halloween/Christmas movies is Gremlins!
Day 298 of waiting for the addams family values retro review
YeES 😭
this has been my favorite move since I was 2 and you’ve been my favorite reviewers since I was 20... I am thrilled
Omg, The Nightmare Before Christmas is literally my favorite movie on this planet. I know all the dialogue, both the songs and speaking parts. I'm so happy that you reviewed it! Thank you!!!!
I (think) in one of Lindsay Ellis old Nostalgia videos she said that this is a perfect Thanksgiving movie as right between Halloween and Christmas
12:30 there actually is a movie like your interpretation of Prom Night 7, Monster Mash. It's called Zombie Prom and 2 teens fall in love and but the principal doesn't want her favorite student to fall in love with the bad boy, so he commits suicide. And comes back as a zombie and hell breaks loose. It's a great movie, and RuPaul plays the principal! You should definitely check it out!
oh Jesus Avaryl so emotional 😂😂 never seen her that riled up
Speaking of Laika y'all should review coraline
AMAZING! This is my favourite movie ever and I have shown my 6 year old son this movie and he now loves it too..,parenting done right.
Love from Australia 🇦🇺 xx
if an Addams Family Christmas movie had been made in the 90s, it probably would have been a lot like this movie. Imagine the Addams Family trying to make sense of Santa Claus, Christmas Carols, and general holiday cheer.
OMG you're alive thank god!
Im gonna be up all night and you guys are keeping me alive thanks.
12:16 this sidebar immediately made me think of Monster High lol (for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, it's a line of toys based on these books about the teenage children of famous monsters going to high school together and there's a web series about the characters and a lot of them end with a school wide dance)
Danny Elfman also did the Simpsons theme tune
Also, I would not be mad at them making it into a Broadway musical
If it's done well like The Lion King and Hunchback
Welcome back!!!!! I saw The Nightmare Before Christmas when it was released back in October in Regal theaters! I saw it when it was first released at the El Capitan Theater!
I can’t be the first person in this comment section to mention that this movie and hocus pocus both came out in ‘93
Weird
Thanks for picking this one for Retro Review! I guess it says a lot about my family that all the kids have been watching this repeatedly with glee, ( and not a speck of fear ) since they were toddlers, ( which was 2 years after it came out ). P.S. Danny Elfman = lead singer of Oingo Boingo as well. Speaking of which, if you want to see a weirdass, ( but strangely cool ) film, check out The Forbidden Zone from 1980, co - written by Danny Elfman and his brother.
I love Catherine O'Hara! Omg please review best in show or waiting for guffman they are my FAVS!
I was literally about to comment that you need to put Nora Ephron on FCI and then you delivered. Thank you.
Wait? Avaryl, is the spider snowflake what inspired the decoration above your head?!
Oogie Boogie is STILL scary. My daughter started crying when he showed up and I was right there with her. She’s two so we’re probably terrible parents for letting her watch it but she was born on Halloween and we wanted to celebrate that? It’s our first kid, we were bound to fuck something up.
Don't forget Jack Skellington sang Weird Science!
I’d be up for you reviewing Coraline, Paranorman and Missing Link when it’s out next year to complete the Laika filmography
Have ya'll seen The Favourite??? I mean Rachel Weiss and Olivia Colman come on! Amazing
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. So happy to see you guys talking about it ❤️
Glad to see one of my favorite movies reviewed by you guys! Also glad the you were safe during the fires.
The heritage museum is doing a street food cinema of Nightmare Before Christmas. I am in for the day because of the rain and gloom. Glad to spend an hour with you guys.
I NEED you guys to review Bohemian Rhapsody. PLEASE!!!!
FUCK YES. Also Avaryl shutting Andrew down at 50:00 is gold.
Has anyone said anything about Danny Elfman singing in Oingo Boingo yet? If you wanna hear what Jack Skellington would sound like in a new wave band, there ya go.
Oh my God as if I needed another reason to love you guys. My heart is so happy ❤
Was I a weird kid because I didn't think any of the visuals were scary? I loved the movie when I was ten, and I adore it now.
The kid pulling the shrunken head out of the box scared me SO. MUCH. as a kid... then again so did everything else
Avril's impersonations are giving me life!
Avaryl's "...what?" 😕 at 36:46 is so iconic, I can't
High School Smash? You guys should totally check out "Monster Prom", it's an amazing game with wonderful art and it's basically about a High School for monsters and you have to ask one of the "cool kids" to prom. It's filled with jokes, sarcasm, acid humor (in the best way) and non-sense!
I don't remember seeing the original Disney logo in my VHS tape of it. I only remember seeing the touch stone. This was my favourite movie when I was a toddler!
I said this on Patreon but I will say it again. Somebody described Darienne Lake's final look in the Glitter Ball in Drag Race Season 6 as 'looking like Oogie Boogie,' and it's a perfect comparison.
Love this movie - and love you both. However, I found it disappointing that you didn't mention that Danny Elfman was the lead singer of Oingo Boingo - who were INFAMOUS for doing Halloween shows in the early 80's in Southern California. (I know you weren't born yet - but...) One of their most popular songs was "It's a Dead Man's Party" Kind of full circle...
Am I weird, this didn't scare me as a kid but the animated BFG f***ing terrified me, those giants were just wrong, I had so many nightmares, some I still remember and refuse to watch the new version if that again
Would love a retro review of 'Penelope'!!! Speaking of Catherine O'Hara...
These videos honestly make my day! I didn’t know I needed this review until I got the notification ❤️
Wait.... I think this movie can be read on the dangers and pitfalls of cultural appropriation
You also might know Danny Elfman as the singer of Oingo Boingo
i had to look it up and the first thing that youtube gave me for "Oingo Boingo" is Dead Man's Party.. how much more on the nose....
Pleeease review Ed Wood someday! What a camp goldmine
So glad you guys are back! I loved this review. One of my favorite movies. The soundtrack is a classic. 🥰
this is the film that brings me THE MOST nostalgia, we used to watch the dvd in class every christmas and i was like the only kid that was never scared bc i just loved it so much, it’s in my top 5 favourite movies of all time aghhhgh i love it!!!
Also, the last song I ever lip synched in drag was Marilyn Manson's cover of This is Halloween. I gave out candy cuz duh.
My niece is 22 months old and is obsessed with this movie. She'll just go "NI-MUR!" or just "JACK!" and want to watch it on repeat five times in a row.
Danny Elfman is also lead singer of 80’s band Oingo Boingo
I love this movie so much!
Jorge Gonzalez | I 💜 that smile of yours!
They said at the beginning that they were going in a wierd place with Jack and Ariel... no, they were just going Kingdom Hearts
Great hair cut Andrew!~
My hot take for this movie (which I still think is a really good movie!) is that it is maybe my least favorite of Henry Selick's films? Only because I grew up watching James and the Giant Peach, and I think Coraline is masterpiece in stop-motion filmmaking. But it is much better than any animated movies Tim Burton directed himself.
“Ugh, I just can’t not be jewish.”
I love Movie Bitches! I love Nightmare Before Christmas! I loved everything about this review! 🧡 #BoneDaddy
I love you guys! FINALLLLLLLY. I went on the haunted mansion during the time they make it nightmare before Christmas and I fan girled so hard that my friends had to drag me off because I wanted to go on it again. FUN FACT!! Originally that Doctor Finklestein was supposed to be the person behind Oogie, but they canned the idea.
Been dreaming of you reviewing this!! So fabulous, as always 💕 also guys PLEASE say you're gonna be reviewing the A Christmas Prince sequel?!?! Love u, missed you!
I’m sure many people know most of these songs just from rewatching the movie all the time
yall shoud review the corpse bride!
I love this movie lol I was terrified of Scooby Doo but this was like a musical to me 😂😂and trust me. Disney is dark. There's some pretty graphic deaths in Disney.
Have you guys seen Schitt's Creek on Netflix? Catherine O'Hara is in it and I swear she is on top of her comedy game here. It also features Eugene Levy as her husband. The best series ever!!!!!!
I *JUST* REALIZED THE "CAT DOLL" @ 33:34 IS SUPPOSED TO BE MICKEY MOUSE!!!!!
Jack Skellington did sort of hangout under the sea considering they reused his puppet for the haunted shipwreck scene from "James & The Giant Peach".
Oh. I'm DEFINITELY going to dress up as Sandy Claws for Halloween this year. I'm so excited to see almost nobody understand it and look at me weirdly.
50:00 HAHAHA That's why you watch till the end, kids! XD
Will you ever review corpse bride as well?
When i was a kid I didn't like this at first because I hated musicals lol. But saw it a few years later and just fell in love with it. I grew up on him Burton movies and just realized the genus.. also appreciated more after learning more about Danny elfman and the music of oingo bingo.. just amazing talent from him and Danny and Henry!
The very beginning was definitely the scariest part...
Also...How many movies has Avaryl watched? OMG
HOW HAS ANDREW NOT SEEN CHRISTMAS VACATION!?!? I can't imagine that not being a staple in my life.
the most important distinction in this movie is laid out in the opening song "That's our job, but we're not mean in our town of Halloween." It would have been so easy to make the citizens of Halloween all TERRIBLE people with Jack and Sally being the only two who feel different and then when they find the "true meaning of Christmas" everyone learns and becomes good. But they didn't do that and it makes me real happy because it is simply elucidating different people's ideas of joy and their own personal thought processes and, on a grander scale, a sort of idea of cultural diffusion and inclusion. This easily makes the top 3 disney movies for me because it wasn't afraid to go "there" in its storytelling, and it really walked that fine line of macabre and kid-friendly. Cinematic masterpiece.
IS THIS REAL LIFE?! ❤️😻❤️ be still my emo heart
2. I am still terrified of Pinocchio.
3. I want to hear all of your thoughts on Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts.
