The Blue Glue failed me 😢

  • I used the blue HOT MELT glue for the first time when I installed the inserts in this set of arrows. But I never intended on shooting broadheads with them, so I probably didn’t do a very good job. When I screwed this 4 blade Broadhead on, it definitely caused an increase in resistance when being pulled out of the target and the insert pulled out of the shaft. Luckily the matrix target made it easy to find my Broadhead and retrieve it. I pulled out the heat gun and glued it really well the second time around and went back to shooting.

Like a lot of things, it’s all in the prep. Lightly scuff the insert and the inside of the shaft. I use a stainless bore brush. Then clean and clean again. Also use a bit more glue and twist as you seat the insert. I’ve had no failures with blue glue or cheap craft sticks. I prefer the blue since it softens in hot water, which makes insert tuning easy.

Ya, I put very little prep into these because I planned on pulling them out as soon as I build them up with the heavy inserts. I’ll definitely include your process when I do.

I’ve had it fail as well, only with broadheads in a dense broadhead target in the summer heat though. You got lucky on the recovery! The worst is knowing there’s a point or broadhead lodged in a target just waiting there for you on an unlucky shot

I was going to dig it out regardless. But the matrix made it super easy to find.

A light Sanding on the Inserts
    Is Good Idea.

use the brown. higher heat tolerance. and yes, LOAD up on it. i even put some inside the shaft before inserting (see the elkshape video with Nick Fisher from AAE).

On the aluminum or brass inserts i always scour them with 200 coarse grit paper. The inside of the is scoured( maybe a little) with a copper bore brush for a few strokes. All alcohol cleaned before applying the “ low temp blue glue”. Seems i have had way fewer problems by going to these extra steps especially on my hunting heads.

Noted! When I put the heavy inserts in, I’ll be sure to do the same
