Love love love the Traveling Wilburys! You rarely get that much talent assembled in one room! And their vocals, instrumentation and arrangements all worked together so well! In this song, those haunting vocals by Roy Orbison were the soul of the song, IMO. Add the unmistakable Harrison guitar slides, it was heavenly.
Bob Dylan as Lucky Wilbury, George Harrison as Nelson Wilbury, Jeff Lynne as Otis Wilbury, Roy Orbison as Lefty Wilbury, Tom Petty as Charlie T Jr, and Jim Keltner as Buster Sidebury. There is a amazing documentary about the making of the Traveling Wilburys. Truly genius.
Harrison is credited as the primary writer of this one. He's also credited as the primary writer of "End Of The Line". George used Jim Keltner on some of his solo LP's as his session drummer.
Yep, that's how they got together. Jim Keltner is a legendary drummer who played with alot of people including Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, Joe Cocker and Leon Russell on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and George Harrisons Concert for Bangladesh.
All five changed their sound somewhat after this album. They all played on each other’s albums and everything sounded somewhat like the Wilburys, in a good way. It probably affected Petty’s sound the most, but it affected all of them. They became family.
My perception of the song is that being famous is not as easy as some people imagine, check out all these lines *Been beat up and battered around I've been fooled, I've been ridiculed Been stuck in airports, terrorised Overexposed, commercialised* And all is summarized on the final touch *Oh, the sweet smell of success* 'Not Alone Anymore' is a Roy song and could be your next choice, and as you can imagine is top notch.
Man, this group of talented guys...just playing great music together. This is one of my favorites by the Wilburys. The backstory on how they came together is such a good story (gotta give a shout out to Dave Stewart as well for his contribution to making this happen & giving up his kitchen to record in). The sound they produced is so freakin good. Thanks for doing this one Shawn.
And how did Lynne and Petty first meet? Petty looked over from his car on a Hollywood road and saw Lynne driving next to him. Tom motioned Jeff over to the side of the road, they chatted, and agreed to hang and write a song together. That first song? Free Fallin’…
You should listen to Inside Out next, it is post Roy Orbison, but a great tune. Then Maybe Ton Petty's I Won't Back Down, although not a Wilbury's tune it does feature George Harrison and Jeff Lynne on backing vocals.
Thanks, Shawn.. the best evah "super-group".. a great collab.. without egos... they did it for Roy, and also just for fun... so glad for your reaction...
You should watch the "Concert For George".....do it off-channel, if you must. I've been a Beatlemaniac since 1964 and it's a VERY emotional experience. Joe Brown and his ukelele wrap it up with "I'll See You In My Dreams", as rose petals fall on the crowd from above. I can hardly write these words without choking up. I can't believe George has been gone for more than 20 years and that I've outllved him.
Tweeter and The Monkey Man, is amazing, Dylan on Vocals, telling the story as only Mr Dylan can, believe he had one kind of mini rehearsal and then recorded it in one take, amazing result
Hábilmente y sinceramente asombrado con la inteligencia musical de Jeff Lynne plasmar el sonido "ELO" en los Travelling Willberys y en The Beatles Antology, ambos proyectos como integrante fundamental como productor, cantante y participante. Very Good Reaction my friend, I see you all your interventions. Happy Christmas for you!!🎄 Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱,South-America
The first record was Volume I, and because they're The Wilburys, the second one was Volume III. Go figure! Roy was not on Volume III, but the songs rock.
Jeff Lynne. One of my favorite Geniuses. (ELO, of course). You mention that he was EVERYWHERE, helping others. These guys DUG HIM‼️And I swear I hear his engineering touch in the sound & mix of this track. 🎵
I've always felt it was about the less enjoyable realities of being famous, and how even the biggest rockstars can feel fragile at times, like any human does. But some people imagine they're made of cast iron and are unaffected by the wilder and nastier excesses of what celebrity culture forces onto them. George's line, "Oh, the sweet smell of success" simply drips with irony...
From what I've heard, the band name and stage names came from them not being able to legally record together due to record label conflict. So much talent and so little ego.

George Harrison saw a sticker on a delivered box that said 'Handle With Care' and wrote the song from that inspiration.
You're looking at about 250 years of combined musical history here.... The ultimate "Supergroup"!
Musical geniuses and legends, coming together to have fun making music they loved, and a supergroup was born.
Let's not forget the legendary Jim Keltner on drums
I have always been disappointed that no one ever recognizes the drummer! Than you!
I can never remember his name😢love his❤Playing.
His name at Traveling Wilburys was "Buster Sidebury".
Absolutely George on the slide guitar solo.
Whew ............................ the talent brings me to tears. Sounded like Dylan on harmonica.
Room full of musical geniuses! So inspired to have them work together!
Usually if you put a group of extremely talented musicians together the result is overblown and disappointing. This is laidback and fun
A phenomenal band created by George Harrison!! He was a pure genius!👍👍👍. Love them all!❤️. RIP to those band members that passed!🙏🙏🙏💖
Sad that only 2 of these 5 legends are still with us Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne.
I will bet anything that it would be Dylan playing harmonica.
The Wilbery twist is a nice amusing one.
Best Supergroup ever, you'll never top this band
Greatest assemblage of talent and legend of all time hands down! Feel Good Music😊
Harrison is credited as the primary writer of this one. He's also credited as the primary writer of "End Of The Line".
George used Jim Keltner on some of his solo LP's as his session drummer.
Oh yeah.. give it up for Jim Keltner!
Love the pictures of the little Wilburys.
Fantastic. The stars really aligned that night. All that talent, and no big ego spoiling things.
In George's childhood photo, he is holding his first guitar.
Jim Keltner is a premier session drummer extraordinare, check out his wiki one of these days, he's played with everyone
Yep, that's how they got together. Jim Keltner is a legendary drummer who played with alot of people including Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, Joe Cocker and Leon Russell on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and George Harrisons Concert for Bangladesh.

This was fun when it came out! We had grown up listening to all these legends and to have them get together and jam …was just cool!❤😊
My perception of the song is that being famous is not as easy as some people imagine, check out all these lines
*Been beat up and battered around
I've been fooled, I've been ridiculed
Been stuck in airports, terrorised
Overexposed, commercialised*
And all is summarized on the final touch *Oh, the sweet smell of success*
'Not Alone Anymore' is a Roy song and could be your next choice, and as you can imagine is top notch.
My favourite by them was a cover of an old country song Nobody's Child
Man, this group of talented guys...just playing great music together. This is one of my favorites by the Wilburys. My favorite line? 'Ooh, sweet smell of success...' - let's all guess what the reference is
That's a lot of world-class talent and music greatness gathered around one microphone.
And how did Lynne and Petty first meet? Petty looked over from his car on a Hollywood road and saw Lynne driving next to him. Tom motioned Jeff over to the side of the road, they chatted, and agreed to hang and write a song together. That first song? Free Fallin’…
The Wilbury albums are well worth a listen . . . iconic band.
So much talent and absolutely no surprise how good the end product was. love love love ❤️
Magic happens.
I loved watching the pure joy on your face as you watched this. I feel that way every time I see this video too.
Check out George Harrison's "Cloud Nine" album (1987) and Ringo Starr's "Time takes time" album (1991)
Amazing Group- super sound...all true great artists.. and the late great Roy Orbison
Incredible❤talent. No coincidences this was Meant to be. The stars aligned and magic happened ✨
Great song, great band. Roy's voice is an order of magnitude above the rest. Dylan played harmonica and I think Jeff played the electric guitar solo.
That was George Harrison playing that guitar at the end of the song. Come on.
just a bunch of very talented guys hanging out.....awesome......
Great reaction Shawn! I love this song ❤️
You should listen to Inside Out next, it is post Roy Orbison, but a great tune. Then Maybe Ton Petty's I Won't Back Down, although not a Wilbury's tune it does feature George Harrison and Jeff Lynne on backing vocals.
Not a bad song on either disc.
Thanks for touching my heart! Such a marvelous group of musicians!🙂✌️
Thanks, Shawn.. the best evah "super-group".. a great collab.. without egos... they did it for Roy, and also just for fun... so glad for your reaction...

Just a guess, but I'm thinking Tom would probably defer to Bob on the harmonica.
Tweeter and The Monkey Man, is amazing, Dylan on Vocals, telling the story as only Mr Dylan can, believe he had one kind of mini rehearsal and then recorded it in one take, amazing result
This was awesome!! ♥️🎼👏🏻
Bob Dylan was the harmonica player...
Yes they only had two albums, Vol1 and Vol 3. Yes there was no Vol 2. This was part of their humor on all their fans.
Hábilmente y sinceramente asombrado con la inteligencia musical de Jeff Lynne plasmar el sonido "ELO" en los Travelling Willberys y en The Beatles Antology, ambos proyectos como integrante fundamental como productor, cantante y participante.

Happy Christmas for you!!🎄 Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱,South-America
I knew you would be doing this soon….it wasn’t if, it was when!!!! Excellent reaction & appreciation! Thank you!
😁
❤ Your reaction! Amazing!
Who has that famous microphone now? They all sang into it, it must be worth something.
Love this group! Keep going, anything would be great 🤟
Yea man, really loved the band's sound from the get go, just a great song. Peace.
Also, how hard it was to get there!
COOL, AWESOME SHAWN!!! 😊
The first record was Volume I, and because they're The Wilburys, the second one was Volume III. Go figure!

Jeff Lynne. One of my favorite Geniuses. (ELO, of course). You mention that he was EVERYWHERE, helping others. These guys DUG HIM‼️And I swear I hear his engineering touch in the sound & mix of this track. 🎵
Try the wilbury twist

Have you seen the film The Postman? Tom is in it.
I always thought tom Petty's hat was like a Pinkerton hat ..from the hats worn by Pinkerton agents in the wild west
Check out the track “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” a Dylan led track that is taking a wink at Bruce Springsteen who was the “It Boy” of the moment.
You should definitely do Tweeter and the monkey man next
👍😊
i think there are 3 albums vol I , vol III and vol IV , might have been tom said we didnt want to do the difficult second album so we skipped it
Check outnot alone anymore
From what I've heard, the band name and stage names came from them not being able to legally record together due to record label conflict. So much talent and so little ego.
There was a crap-load of talent in the Traveling Wilbury's: Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, others I don't know.
Jeff Lynne. And the drummer is Jim Keltner.
It was destiny🤷
