Just inherited my grandmothers ‘72 Super Beetle. Has been sitting since 2002. This video was extremely helpful! This is my first restoration and I need all the advice I can get! Thank you for this!
Thanks, for the great info. I got my son a 71super beetle for 15th b-day so he had a year to work on it. Last tagged in 03 so he got some work to do on it.
Cool video on cleaning fuel lines. Stay safe
Thank you Eugene, it’s just something that people forget about because they don’t see it. Thanks so much for being here.
Good idea for sure. I liked the bloopers at the beginning.
thanks! I left the bloopers on for a change!! LOL
Then have fuel tank sand blasted and sealed. No more rust clogging the carb jets. 1965 Manx experience.
Oh I bet I should do this to my Speedster replica but it’s too cold right now. I’ll add this to my Spring cleanup “To Do” list! Thanks for the tips!
Slades, an awesome hack is to add Evaporust into a spray or squeeze bottle, spray or squeeze it into the fuel line, let it sit for about an hour and watch the miracle happen. Instant clean and fresh fuel line. You can break the rules once you learn them. :)
Oddly enough, I thought about doing that. But to be quite honest with you I got lazy. And just did what I did. The evapo rust pushed into that line, would’ve probably did a really great job. Thank you so much for commenting.
Great video
Thanks very much!!
I got a 70 Baja beetle. Last registered 2014. Solid clogged. Bad fuel cell, lights. It needs every thing. So cool though, I have the coolest car on the block imo😎
I have a 74 sun beetle with a clogged line and thes wah very helpful
Thank you for teaching me. Cleans the fuel line.
VWnori[のりもん] Your very welcome! Thank you for being here!

As always, this was exactly what I needed to know as I embark on restoring my daughter's 72 Super Beetle Convertible! Keep 'em coming! You're saving me so much frustration and time!!
Jerry Wickham Thank you!!! I’m glad my videos are helping brother!!
400 subs? I see 617! Great videos..appreciate the work and effort that goes in to show the secret innards of the VW!
Thanks for commenting Scott! I have older videos I am putting back up. I still have ore to upload!
Thanks for the info!

Best to you!

Thank you very much Dave, and thank you so much for taking out the time to leave a comment.
Just another suggestion: Go to Autozone and borrow their ac flush kit. Use kerosene to flush it out. then run some denatured alcohol or better yes naphtha. It will take less than 15 minutes. Then use a vacuum tool/gauge and see if it leaks.
Nice poster
I think that’s my problem, I don’t have a air compressor, what do you recommend
Honestly, I would go to harbor freight, if you are just looking for one for part time working in the garage,.
Was looking for something like this. I recently got my 74 beetle from the build. I bought it unseen and had it modified to a baja. It has a dual carb set up. it ran great for a while but then i ran into a problem that the carb on the left is on some kind of stack that bolts to the block. That came loose. I think i got it tight but now I cant get the car started. When i spray starter in the carbs, it fires up, burns off the spray, then immediately dies. Not sure what to do. I grew up in Cali and always wanted a beetle. Now im 54 and in MN and bought one. I dont know much about em but I'm learning. Thanks for this. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Awesome information thanks very much all the way from Mike way down here in Auckland New Zealand 👍🏻
Thank you very much Mike, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment I truly appreciate that.
Where's the link to the LED light you bought off Amazon? Thanks for the advice on cleaning out the fuel line.
great video!
Thank you very much Kevin, I truly appreciate that.
Slade thanks for the videos. They really help for my first restoration. Please keep them coming. How hard would it be to change the line? Agains thanks.
You’re very welcome, and thank you very much for being here. Try cleaning it first, because changing the line is not very easy. You would have to cut the tunnel open at one point. So I don’t think it would be a fun job. Much more to come. Plus I have a 1968 that I will be pulling in next and doing a full restoration on.
Slades, what is up brother. How are you? Awesome idea. I am going to try that myself.
Hey doing good brother!!! Hope your well! Its truly worth it!
Hey is good to hear from you. I have had some set back with my restoration project. I didn’t expect to be fixing what should have been done well at the body shop. The luggage floor pan and the firewall was badly repaired at the body shop. So I repaired it myself. I now now that it looks original and it well done. Hey thanks for your , support, comments and sharing my videos. I have now 55 subscribers 😊.
Very helpful video, thank you so much 🙂
I’m very glad it was helpful, thank you so much for being here!
Hi Slade, Looking forward to seeing new videos👍
Thank you Tim! i need to catch up on yours. I am not in as much in the summer.
Thanks Slade, I shared your video with the Bus Grease Monkey because of the old buses in the video. They have a huge following on UA-cam so you may get a bunch more views on this one. Love the pictures from the past. Cool old cars and the signs were so awesome back then.
I suspect that my 73 super is kinked somewhere along the shifter. I've attached a steel cable to a drill but it refuses to go further than a foot and a half. I'll give the injection cleaner and air compressor a shot next.
Maybe try and old throttle cable through it next, something more flexible. Soaking it would really help. Running a new line inside the tunnel a pain!
What are you thoughts on running the "ethanol free" gas (blue handle) in these air cools since you're not too hip on the ethanol gases?
I wished I could afford to run the ethanol free stuff it is very expensive. Unfortunately I have no choice but run the regular crap they give you now.
Great video, lots of junk in that line! One question, does the brake line run through the tunnel as well?
My VW super beetle cleaned the lines, I put new sleeves on it, but my filter grinds bubbles until it is empty.
Great video. You sure have a lot of dust in that tank. 🤪
OFF AXIS BUILDS 😂😂😂
Gret job thanks for the video, and yes...dont lose the straw in the fuel line hahahaha, it sounds like maybe you, or someone you know had that experience....
Thanks Greg! If that straw would have shot inside of there, I would have been on film crying! LOL
Good vid
Thanks very much!! Lots more to come!
i have a 73 super vw bug... it has not been started for 12 years... my step dad only drove it 3 time around the suburbs.it looks like a hot rod engine.and he gave it to me for free. it is amazing but there is old gas in it what do i do can io add more gas or what the gas is about 13 years old bout a 25 tank.it is highly modded out. i ether wana sale it or drive it i will be doing a cold start this comeing thurday if anybody want me to record it i will. it has dobel carb and is huge engine it used to be for raceing at the track .he got it at a deler ship only 35,000 miles original
after watching video im going to do all this first lol
Sounds like a great car! Definitely clean up the fuel system and get it running! And enjoy the car! They’re so fun to drive.
I bet the rust is from the fuel tank and the rust is from the ethanol.
This tank sat almost empty for many years. So I believe from condensation that formed a mild rust.

That video was close to the beginning of my filming. I was still learning.
