    I have never seen anyone use a sealer on the fuel pump. You can use gasket paper they sell the rubbery type gasket spacers as well. Just seems like a pain in the a$$. I personally can care less is it have a leak from that area. Also it is a waste of time to grease the pump it probably gets enough lubrication from the push rod. I enjoyed the write up you are a well spoken gentleman. Thanks

  • @vintage76vipergreenBeetle
    @vintage76vipergreenBeetle Рік тому +3

    The fuel pump gasket is different. You used 2 fuel pump flange gaskets. Also some aftermarket fuel pump flange diameter thicknesses are smaller than the original 13mm, which will increase your fuel pressure.

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  Рік тому +2

      That’s exactly what I thought. I did what he asked. I don’t know why it has those two gaskets with it in the kit. I’m not big on the aftermarket Bakelite. This is why I technically don’t like doing work on other peoples stuff. I have to play by their rules unfortunately.

    Hey great video, I always use a different gasket on the bottom of the pump pedestal, the one with the small hole in it, I’ve not seen a kit that uses two upper gaskets before, seems strange to me but I guess it would seal ok.

    I think the reason the diaphragm is stiffer in the new fuel pumps is because they may be made of neoprene rubber and neoprene is impervious to ethanol.

    Hi, i have 2110cc I've built I've been having issues tuning my dual carbs. At 2000 rpms, I'm getting a miss and exhaust pop. I noticed that my fuel filter is pretty empty and it should have a decent amount of fuel running through at 2k rpm. I found your video. I measured fuel rod and it's 108mm and I have the right pump. The issue I believe is the fuel rod travel. In your video I notice the rod nearly disappears in the bakelite. Mine when down sticks out .322" roughly 8mm and fully extended its .505" roughly 12mm. Since I built the motor I know how it all works. The timing gears seemed fine I set the play with shims. The distributor isn't sticking up weird and appears to be seated probably. Could the ramp grind be that much off on the distributor gear?

    The upper gasket is different than the lower gasket. You had one on the table but instead of using it you used another lower gasket. The correct upper gasket provides more cover to the top of the Bakelite. Also at VW we always placed a small amount of grease in the open areas of the Bakelite top. If this was intentional what was your reason for doing so? Thanks.

    • @SladesVWBeetle
      @SladesVWBeetle  Рік тому +1

      @@SladesVWBeetle I enjoy your channel thanks for taking the time to share your passion. I responded because I view what you are sharing as educational. I wanted to help make it clear to anyone new to this that the proper gasket arraignment is different than what is shown. Perhaps if you have a reason to do otherwise as you just explained then make sure to make that clear on the video as well. My hope is that constructive criticism is okay here, the last thing I want to do is argue about a gasket. With that said, If I’m building an engine for someone else and they ask me to install gaskets that are not proper I would decline to do so. Unless they can prove to me that their way is better than Volkswagen’s way. Thanks for your time and your channel.
