Real nice tidy work Tom....Nice to hear an honest assessment of boiler manufacturers....hassle no installer needs when registering a warranty...back up service from a manufacturer is Paramount in our trade...
Thanks for the support as always mate, it is so frustrating from an installer point of view when we get left with problems caused by a faulty product, I've had quite a few issues with a particular brand of shower pump, they will do everything to wiggle out of warranty
Good work love the videos can’t help to think when you drilled into the ceiling all that dust and crap going down the pipe I’ll always cover them to prevent that but good work mate keep it up
The latest Worcesters are so much more installer friendly, at last! The old Vaillant sine 18,so came with pre- installed mini exp. vessels, still not sure why, except these days water meters are fitted with check valves so maybe plastic components are an issue? Great to see someone understands the Regs. surrounding where double check valves can and cannot be fitted. On system water quality checks, I use Scalemaster i-test in conjunction with a turbidity tube and QUALITY ph test straps. Worcester specifically require a MAXIMUM of a ph of 8! You thoughts on testing and the results you obtain would be of much interest. Pro job, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the support as always John, I think the plastic parts are the main issue when it comes to fitting expansion vessels, water quality is very important, I have started using the test strips to check for inhibitor levels on my installs and when carrying out a service, thanks for the support as always mate
Worcester's are ... fine ... it's just they are so expensive compared to other brands but that extra cost doesn't show in the quality of the product, especially with how much cheap plastic they are full of which goes brittle over time and pinholes or cracks... these new ones definitely impressive on the installation side of things so credit where credit is due there
Thanks for the support mate, the plastic is really the only thing with this boiler I don't like, they are a little pricey for the 8000, but with the care pack that comes with the filter and programmer it does help bring the cost down and put them in line with other boilers, the new Worcester 1000 will probably be my budget boiler at £500 plus flue and filter
You gave that lady some good advice there. To me its like putting a brand new engine in a 1976 Ford Cortina. Yes the engine is good , but if the transmission is rubbish you're not actually gaining anything. Plus you are still left with numerous other faults. I said 1976 because many systems are actually that old if not older.
Thanks Tom! Really enjoying your content, great video! I've literally just started at college and I'm learning so much from you! Thank you... looking forward to you next video as always
Thanks for the support Andy, glad you find the videos useful, when I started college in 2008 that weren't really any plumbing videos in youtube, PB was the first guy I really watched and I learnt a fair bit from him
@@PlumbLikeTom I also watch him and yourself both very helpful. I'm 38 bk at college learning a new skill for life! Anyone out their.... it's possible lol thanks again Tom
Looks a very nice job, Tom Bro, out all the guns laser in everything I like the end, a bit of Callum. If you remember the series lonely is Mate with the swinging light Bulb 😂 I see Harry, the spider got after the heat gun was lit😂 very good video for upcoming plumers 👍👍👍👍🔥🕷️🕸️
Hi Tom, great film and a nice installation there. Yep the Worcesters do appear to have a lot of plastic bits inside these days. At one time they were always my favourite and go to boilers but not anymore. It’s sad to see them slip down the ratings now. Have a great weekend and as always take care mate. 👍👍👍
That is the only thing with Worcester boilers that really do let them down, if they were brass I think they would nearly be perfect, thanks for the support as always Chris
Brilliant video Tom, The new Worcester life’s are a nice boiler, I had two worcester filters in the last year that was already registered, I would be pissed if a boiler was registered, I later found out that so people are just using random serial numbers and collecting points, its not hard to do because the first few numbers are nearly identical, Great install 👍👍🤜
Thanks for the support as always Tony, I know a few people who have had that, honestly they should just be able to remove the points if people have registered products fraudulently and stop them registering again, thanks for watching as always
Nice vid and work. My only grip is that the pipe facing towards the ceiling wasn't protected before the drilling hole in the ceiling, allowing debris to inside the pipe. I believe keeping inside of the pipe clean and prevention is better.
Shock arrestor aint needed for any worcester mate. I know they say this but they havent a clue as their boilers are designed by architects lol. All thats needed is a pressure reducing valve on mains to reflect what hot water flow rate can be achieved. Its very high mains that cracks them and with residual heat on plate with expansion/contraction of plastic. Ive never ever had a flow/return manifold on an install fail and its been a long time lol. Like you said mate, the shock is going to be disrupted by all the bends it has to take, to have any effect on the boiler. Nice little install that, good job😎
I totally agree mate, a pressure reduction valve would have more benefit than a shock arrestor, thanks for the support as always, it is greatly appreciated
Great to watch. Our combi in the kitchen (WB Si compact 30) has a radiator beneath the boiler and then the pipes run up the back of the boiler to upstairs rads etc. and then comes back down in the hallway to feed the living room rads. I can never get the flow/return at the boiler(apart from when starting up) the 12c difference that I have at each radiator that I balanced and was curious that the radiator below the boiler is going straight back to the boiler and therefore giving the readings rather than all the rads from the system? Or does its return pipe run up past the boiler somehow? The lockshield is turned down so that it heats up at the same time as all the others. What do you think please.
Great video. Just a question if you don't mind, I'm a 3rd year apprentice and I have been doing outside taps over the summer but has died off a bit now. Just wondering how I could get myself out there for smaller jobs like radiator changes, toilets, basin swaps etc if you have any idea how to advertise for this. just wanting to do a couple of jobs on the weekend to get a bit of extra money. I was enjoying doing the outside taps for myself felt like i was progressing and finding my feet working on my own, I also enjoyed the extra money of course. Thanks.
Hi mate, thanks for watching, I know a few guys who use facebook to advertise and they seem to pick up plenty of small jobs, honestly if I were to be starting from scratch I would defiantly look to go down that route. Once you get your name out there word of mouth should then kick in, just focus on doing a good job, leave everything clean and tidy and you will have as much work as you need
@PlumbLikeTom yea, i was advertising outside taps through Facebook and was doing quite well with them l. I'll have a look at that. Thank you. Keep up the videos. I learn a lot from them, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
It is hard mate, I am actually fitting a water softener on this job now, I wouldn't have put the scale reducer on had I known, thanks for the support as always Danny
This boiler install was part of a lager conversion where I had a full survey done before starting, sometimes on my videos you will see random holes in walls and ceilings, this is where samples have been taken. I will try to find a link to the video, but when I first started the project I did run through all the asbestos removal costs, this included the soil pipe, the porch ceiling and the floor tiles. The garage ceiling came back asbestos free, there was a product called superlux, very similar to asbestlux but asbestos free. I have still known a survey miss things, but I am as careful as I can be and will walk away from jobs. I have seen some guys on here removing soil pipes and flues, I did used to have a licence for small removals, but my insurance was insane. I now leave all asbestos removals to licenced contactors, and get a clean air certificate before starting work, thanks for watching mate
@@PlumbLikeTom Hi mate, thanks for the comprehensive reply. I'm glad to hear all that and it sounds like you are knowledgeable about the stuff. Maybe someone who reads this will learn something hence me asking the question to highlight the issue. The flat sheeting type ie porch ceiling is very dangerous (AIB.) Also it's in floor tile adhesive, the black swirly stuff. All the best mate, you seem like a top bloke - keep safe!
whats wrong with worchester boilers, should I go for another one instead? Seems like a headache going with worchester based on your after sales and care service
I got mine from ITS, if you are buying one go for the inox version as it can cut stainless and the blade has lasted over a year so far, I do have the older version but this thing is a beast, I payed around £140 plus the battery which I already had
On a combination boiler you have a flow and return that connect to the radiators, these will normally be 22mm connections, you also have a cold inlet, and a hot outlet, the cold water passes through the boiler, is heated and comes out hot to feed the taps. On a combi boiler the hot and cold connections will be 15mm. There is also a gas pipe, as well as a condense and pressure relief pipe
It's a fair point, I normally blow down my pipes before connecting the boiler to clear any dust or debris, it is something I should be more careful of though, thanks for watching
You always remember your first, mine was the CDI classic, I guess that's why I have a bit if a soft spot for them, thanks for the support as always mate
I used to sub contract for a heat pump contractor, I fitted quite a few ground and air source heat pump systems, if I'm honest I didn't enjoy the work that much as most of the time systems were poorly designed or just not suitable for a heat pump, I could only do what I was told though being a subby, design is critical really with these things, the government seem to have taken a 1 size fits all approach to heat pumps and it's just not right, thanks for watching as always mate
Mate you did the right thing you can’t sell a boiler with a warranty that’s already been registered! Trading standards mate …stuck to your guns good man
That's what I do, it appears that some larger companies warranty the boilers before installation and then return the boilers, I've spoken to a few installer's and it seems to be a common issue, thanks for watching
