Additionally, the menu for creating a Color Attribute requires you to pick a color. Don't forget to also make that one orange, otherwise the things that are colored orange may end up as the default black color instead. I found out the hard way. It was very confusing when I got to the step that said black objects still need properties assigned, and there were some with properties assigned but were still black.

Hello Farrukh - Excellent ! , Pl do a full body animal tutorial, I was struggling with sculpt, but after following your tutorial, I feel more confident . Thank you so much.
Thank you for the video! I do have a problem with my colors though. They show up in vertex paint mode but as soon as I go into object mode it turns black again. When I connect the shader nodes to each other, nothing happens. I followed it exactly, and re-tried it so many times and nothing works. I even tried to use the attribute node instead. I am going a little bit crazy. Can anyone help??
Thank you! Here are some things you can try: 1. Switch viewport shading to material preview mode. (Top right corner, 3rd round button) 2. Press Z and select material preview from the pop-up menu. 3. Another way to show vertex paint is in the top right corner again in viewport shading, click the small arrow. In the color category select Attribute. Hopefully one of these should work.
Thanks a lot for all your tuts!. I have a cuestion regarding the eye shader. If the model is located inside a room then what can I do in order to not show the reflection of trees in the pupils?
Thank you! There are some ways you can try. First you can simply place some 3d object or a plane if front so it covers the tree part. It will reflect that instead of a tree. You can also rotate the hdri map angle so trees are on the side or use a different similar hdri with no trees. One option is to create a part of simple 3d room wall window in front and use hdri with no trees. If your tree is a 3d object then you can disable it to not to show in render. I hope you get the idea!
Hello, thank you very much for this tutorial. I've read all the comments, but I don't think I've found a solution for my problem. I'm on blender 4.0, and I can't see the colors I've applied in vertex paint mode when I'm in "material preview", but I can see them when I'm in "solid" mode. I've been working on this file for a long time, so the idea that I've ticked something that disturbs the display can't be ruled out.
Hi, Thank you for your comments and feedback. The vertex paint colors not showing in the material preview is due to shader node setup or the name of the color attribute property not same for all objects or is different. Kindly check or better to test in a new empty clean file to see if vertex painting is working or not. Then append your model in it. I have a pinned comment step by step guide attached as well. Hopefully it should work.
@@Farrukh3D Hello, thank you again for your reply! It worked fine. Now that I've painted everything. I would like to know how to export my fbx file with color vertice as it doesn't work for me. I have "convert attribute" in face corner and byte color but without success.
Hello! I am on Blender 3.4.1 where "Vertex Color" is now "Color Attributes". Every time I plug in the color attribute node to the base the head, tongue, and nose go all black. I noticed there are additional options when doing add "Color Attributes" and one of those is that there is a color block and that is set to Black. I don't know if this has something to do with? Is there anything I should specifically be doing when adding the "Color Attributes" in the Object Data Properties with the new options? Also is it okay if it stays black? I saw your response to someone else with a comment similar but i'm still a little confused and nothing has been working. Thank you!
Hello, Yes, Color attribute is the new one. The black color is normal as it is the default color. One thing to check is that all objects should have a color attribute property and same name with same material. If it is not added then vertex paint will not work on those objects and remain black. As many people have shared this issue before, I have now made a new step-by-step guide for setting up vertex paint in an image format. Hopefully, it should be helpful. Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you! Link for steps for vertex paint. drive.google.com/file/d/1ruA0e_7_YW3-AZAvscYwpOJy5vbqZj_f/view?usp=share_link
hey, thanks for the tutorial! I have a problem when trying to render tho, everytime I select to render image it breaks all the textures and it gets all weird. Can you help me?
Hi, Is the vertex paint not showing or eye shader? Switch to material viewport in the editor and see if the results look correct. For rendering, make sure to add a light and hdri image for the background to light the model properly.
Realized you need to hide the "BlockOut" collection on the renderer by clicking the camera icon next to the eye. The tutorial just shows hiding it for the viewport display.
Hello and thank you for your tutorials! But actually, I have some problems. When I connected Color attribute, the model became black instead of white. Could anybody help me with this?
Thank you! For the black color problem, check if the name of the color attribute property is same for all model objects. Apply the same material for all model. Next in the node editor, see if the correct name is selected for the color attribute. Hopefully this should fix any color issue. Switch to preview viewport also. (z key select preview mode)
So when I add the color attribute shader in the entire head and the nose and tongue become black and adding any more color attributes doesn't change them from black
Hi, color attribute name should be same for all objects. If any object shows black color that means the name of color attribute is different or not assigned. Check in shader editor if name is same. There is a pinned comment here also which has written steps attached. Thanks.
Applying the Color attributes in shanding color turns into black instead of white, and if i add the nose and tongue a color attributes, doesn´t change to white, any suggestions? Blender 4.1
Hi, For the black color issue, check the name property of the color attribute. It should be same. Next in the shader editor, connect the color attribute and select the same name. You have to do this for every object. Material remain same. I have a small guide in the comments section as well which includes all the steps. You can check it. Hopefully it will work. Thanks.
ehh idk if it smthing i missed but when i export the obj and then import it in another blender project . the paint i did in vertex paint disappears and only the base colour appears
Hi, Try to export in .fbx format. Then add a color attribute node in the shader editor to show the vertex colors. Other way is when you create the color attribute property, In the data type use the "byte color". Then export. Also check simple copy and paste to see if it works from one blender project to another. Most likely some bug in blender.
i have a problem regarding the vertex color. even though i added the same name to all object the color still remain the same. it has no issue while following along but when rendering, the vertex color are all over the place. can u tell a solution for fixing the black color
For black color issue, If the same name for the vertex attribute property for all objects is correct then in the shader editor as well check if the same name is assigned to the vertex node (Now known as color attribute node). Both places have to use same name otherwise it won't work. Apply only one material for all the sculpt objects that will use. Test to fill the object with shift+k. Switch the material preview as well or change the render engine to cycles. Even though it should work in Eevee.
Hi, vertex color node is now called color attribute node in new versions of blender. You can search color attribute node and add it in the shader editor. Rest of the process is same as shown.
Hi, check vertex is applied on all objects and sharing the same material and vertex color property. Vertex property name should be same also. Clear any masks (alt+m). You can try switch to other objects with alt+q. See if the colors are are shown material preview mode in editor.
Erasing color directly is not possible. For that, you will have to set up multiple vertex nodes for every different color in the shader editor. You can either switch to flat view, select a color and paint it over with base or save colors in the palette you want to use and then paint over parts.
Hi, it is because of the shader. It is attached to the whole eye object. If you need only pupil part to move, you can make first duplicate eye, delete faces of the mesh other then pupil part. Keep the pivot point same as the eye so rotation is correct. Other way is apply mirror modifier and separate both eye meshes. This is a simple eye shader and has some limits to control everything. Hope you get idea. Thanks.
Its just black and I cant paint the tongue . i have the color attribute already applied to it. I dont want to start over again is there anything i can do to fix this ?
Hi, if it looks black, make sure the color attribute property name is same as other objects. Material should be same as well. Black color means it is missing color property name or material is different.
Hi, in the new version of the blender you can use color attribute property. In the data properties click color attribute panel (same place as old vertex) and click plus button. Next, in the shader editor also use add color attribute node. It works in the same way. Hope this helps!
Hi, if the color is not changing then check if the color attribute node is connected in the shader editor and property name also selected in the node. (same name as vertex) I have a guide link in the comments section as well. Please check it. Thank you.
Blender 3.1 Most of the workflow is still the same. The only change I have noticed is to use a color attribute node instead of the vertex node in the shader editor for applying vertex paint colors.
Hi, For baking vertex map, you can use a addon like Bystedts baker(free) or "simple bake" or do a manual bake in the same way like shown in any other texture baking tutorial in blender. Make sure to create a low poly mesh before which has unwrapped uv assigned. Vertex color node should be used then to add colors to a texture.
Thanks for the vid but for some reason my pc Keeps crashing and I’m following the steps your doing, nothing more nothing less.I don’t know why also my sculpt shows up black and not white like yours
See if you can sculpt with only a simple sphere or cube object. Add a multi-res modifier with 1 or 2 levels on the object. Make a new clean file and test in it. It can be some setting causing this issue.
@@Rellisinfinyx Go to file menu - Default Load Factory Settings. It will reset blender settings, shortcuts, remove any addons or changes made. Then see if it works or not.
Hi. First check color attribute name is same as other objects in the shader editor. Next go in data properties -> Color Attributes and see the name is same. Switch in vertex color mode and shift K to fill the object with any color. Step by step guide is attached on first comment as well.
6:30 When I'm painting the mouth here, it looks very distorted. I have tried to use the multires or the subdivision modifier but neither of those seemed to help. Any idea that you'd help me?
Hi, If the mouth is distorted it means there is less resolution in there. Vertex paint needs more and cleaner topology. Remove any modifiers like subd. Goto sculpt mode and do a remesh operation on the head with a high value like 0.2 or 0.1 something. Make a backup copy of the mesh before. Then try painting over and smooth the mesh as needed.
Hi, add some of the keys to your quick favorites menu. Yes, it happens sometimes blender is missing some hot keys to work. I have noticed this issue on my side as well. I have to click on the menu or button or exit mode to enable it back
everything worked fine until I went into sculpt mode, the grab brush was not working and when it finally did work I couldn't shape the nose like you did, it seemed to only move the nose rather than stretch it. Still a cool video though.
Thank you! In case of problems in sculpting, here are somethings which are overall general guides to try. Clear any masks (alt+m), Select highlight the object you need to sculpt (alt+q), Check brush strength if not too low (right click), exit sculpt mode and switch back again, see if multires modifier level are 2 or 3.
You can check if the vertex color property name is same for all parts. Also see if vertex color node is attached to the material as well in shader editor. Switch to rendered editor viewport to see if vertex colors are working or not for any part. If any color is missing then maybe reassign the material to that object. Hope it helps.
There is no eraser in vertex paint. You can use the same color to paint over the part to act as eraser or use the blur tool to reduce the color. Other way is fill the entire object with a one base color (shift+k) and paint over again.
Hi, vertex painting is useful for high resolution sculpted models. It requires no uv setup and direct color painting. For texture painting clean topology and uvs are needed before texture painting. That is for a separate tutorial.
Hi, Please check if you are using new Blender version. Also Vertex color node is now renamed to Color attributes in new version. Other then that you can share where you are having any specific problem.
Hi, add the color attribute property in data property panel. Also add and connect the color attribute node in the shader editor. The default color black means some node is missing. The new blender uses color attribute now not vertex color node. Hopefully it will work.
Hello everyone, Please note in the new version of Blender "Vertex Color" property is now "Color Attributes". It works in the same way as shown in the tutorial. In case there is any problem setting up vertex paint, I have uploaded a new step-by-step image format guide. It shows the main settings and how to fix any issues like black objects, vertex painting not working that may happen. Thank you! Also why was the background part not explained? Was trying to set it up on my own and it didn’t work out well. It was a disaster. Hi, add some of the keys to your quick favorites menu. Yes, it happens sometimes blender is missing some hot keys to work. I have noticed this issue on my side as well. I have to click on the menu or button or exit mode to enable it back
@@Farrukh3D I just figured out that my Set Vertex binded to Ctrl+X , not Shift+K, LoL. Thanks)
I have no vertex color node ???
In new Blender versions, Vertex Color node is now known as Color Attribute node. You can use that. It works in the same way.
everything worked fine until I went into sculpt mode, the grab brush was not working and when it finally did work I couldn't shape the nose like you did, it seemed to only move the nose rather than stretch it.
For some reason my tongue won't stay red on render. Any ideas? Thanks
You can check if the vertex color property name is same for all parts. Also see if vertex color node is attached to the material as well in shader editor. Switch to rendered editor viewport to see if vertex colors are working or not for any part. If any color is missing then maybe reassign the material to that object. Hope it helps.
@@Farrukh3D I figured it out, thanks. It was my material color that needed changing.
How do I erase?
There is no eraser in vertex paint. You can use the same color to paint over the part to act as eraser or use the blur tool to reduce the color. Other way is fill the entire object with a one base color (shift+k) and paint over again.
Why are you using vertex painting instead of texture painting?
Hi, vertex painting is useful for high resolution sculpted models. It requires no uv setup and direct color painting. For texture painting clean topology and uvs are needed before texture painting. That is for a separate tutorial.
I've tried everything in this video and nothing is happening to my model
Hi, Please check if you are using new Blender version. Also Vertex color node is now renamed to Color attributes in new version. Other then that you can share where you are having any specific problem.
the head is black and i cannot fix it
Hi, add the color attribute property in data property panel.
Thank you!

9:11 When I rotate the eyes, the left eye moves its position. Why?
Never mind, I got it
@@miguelr.9166 I couldn't figured out how to solved bro how did u solve it?
i have a "missing uv's, textures, detected " :(
Hi, please use "Color Attribute" node in the shader editor instead of vertex node. It is the new one now used in Blender
@@Farrukh3D Thank you so much for these tutorials, they have been extremely helpful. I hope you will make many more in the future. I wish you a lot of success and thank you again, you are the best.

When I try to do the eyes they kinda get messy. Only when looking straight the colors are nice, but once I start moving them - the left eye gets messed up. Also why was the background part not explained? Was trying to set it up on my own and it didn’t work out well. It was a disaster. For some reason the lights eventually are getting messed up too and don’t look as good. I also wish the render part wasn’t skipped as well. For all that i have to put a dislike
thank you . that 2 tutorial was entertaining for me . ı learn a lot of things. keep it up !
