If you're now using blender 4.0 -> Shift+K is now ctrl+x
thank you
thanks!
Thank you! I was stuck on that
you are a saint. I went to the comments hoping someone had the fix
Thank you
These sculpting tuts came at the perfect time, I need to sculpt a character for a client and it has been a while since last time I have sculpted anything in Blender. They are a great reminder! Life saver! Thanks Grant!!!
I admire people that can use these brush and manage to make a finished object.
Great tutorials! Really well paced. I appreciate how you take your time explaining things without rushing through important steps. Your patience shows that you are truly interested in teaching and not just showing off.
Speaking of your gamedev courses, i just bought the one where you sculpt something very similar to this character, it's awesome to have more resources from you here that's so recent too. Thanks for all you do! Cant wait to finish this third course from you.
Glad you like them!
sculpted and painted my first face!! i had lots of fun, i was intimidated to try it, but i definitely want to sculpt more now
Simple, straight forward, easy to follow ad stayed on point. Thank you. You have earned a new follower.
Great Job ! We're waiting for any other magnificent sculpt work of yours
Awesome stuff. You're the goat Grant
Very great lesson! Thank you!
Thanks for this video, it was exactly what I'm looking for.
Great video Grant! I have been wondering how to this. Thank you so much!
an artist who knows how to teach ❤
It’s so colorfull :0
I love these tuts
Wow.. thank you so much 🙏☺️ you have been a huge help for me sir.❤
you are a god grant thats what i needed to
To the American English speakers out there, if you end up with an all black model in cycles render view, try using another attribute name than "color". Apperantly that attribute name is already used for something else and can cause problems
thankyou
very very thx brother!!
You have gained one new subscriber
Hi, sir. I'm your new subscriber and love the way you teach. I would request you please kindly make a tutorial on how to split or separate lips in sculpture mode for animation purpose. Thank you so much
For blender 4.0 it seems the fill vertex color is now ctrl+x instead of shift+k @ about the 3:21 time in the video.
Thanks
thanks you
merci
I love u, thanks for this class
On mac, set the vertex color with command + x
Learned from a few places that slightly turning out the eyes at about 5-10 degrees helps them not look as crosseyed, apparently we're a bit wall-eyed lol
Also, really love that you used Sonic as a reference, he does solid work and it's a blast every time worlds collide like that!
Really awesome tutorials dude; appreciate these, sculpting is so daunting, and you've been a miracle maker!
This is excellent, thanks. You always make painting in Blender look so easy. I didn't know you could do this with vertex colors. Question: What if you have re-topologized this model and you want to bake these vertex colors into a texture for the re-topologized version? What does that workflow look like? Is it similar to the process of baking a normal map? Thanks.
Yes same
Hey grant, im actually in several game dev courses. Im using 3.6 and no color attribute node. Is there a workaround besides using your version? Sorry if its repeat wuestion, looked for the answer.. thanks!
If you were to do a retopology of this sculpt, is there a way to bake the vertex painting onto the UV map of the lower poly mesh? I know you can bake normal maps, would it be a similar procedure?
Yes same kind of thing
Thank you so much for making these tutorials. I think I accidentally sculpted Jeff Bezos, but it was a great experience.
Do you have any tutorials or recommendations for learning about the video/image masking feature and other video editing tools? I don't know why I am struggling with it so much. I would like to rely on Blender for its video editing tools, if only I could get to grips with it. Thank you
It's not something I use blender for
can you then bake the vertex paint to a texture if you retopo the sculpt? Or wold it be better to first retopo and then do texture paint? Im sort of confused between the 2 modes
Yes retopo then bake
I can't paint over the set base color of the face, or change all of it with ctrl+x. But when I do the exact same thing with another object like the hair It works perfectly. Please help, what am I doing wrong???
Using the vertex paint is the same then using the paint tool in sculp mode? Great video btw
Yes, it is
I did have a question: could you paint with a material in vertex mode, or do you need UV's to do so? For example, if I want to add metallic paint onto a skin material as opposed to just a color attribute...
There doesn't seem to be a way to do that
Quick note: it's ctrl-x instead of shift-k in blender 4.0
Thanks for this video,
Question : I don’t understand to paint the object with one time, the shortcut is shift K, but does not run on blender 4
Thanks for your answer,
Haven't checked. I'll look into it
@@grabbittIt's good, I found, type on CTRL X (Paint -> Set Vertex Colors)
Thanks,
They changed it, its now CTRL X
Great Video. But i coudnt use shift-k for fill-in and also coud not find it under key bindings. Wonder why
Not sure what's happened there
Does somebody knows how to export a low poly model with vertex colors to a COLLADA file?
I'm using blender 3.6.5 and when exporting to .dae file, it doesn't contain the vertex colors information. The only data that i had are vertex positions, texture coordinates and normals. My game engine only reads vertex positions, texture coordinates, and indices and i want to add vertex colors to the loader.
Thanks!
I thought when you color your character means to texture wrap the character or do you do both color them in blender and create the wrapping in photoshop?
all in blender is a little simpler
An are those blue
ed\yellow areas of the face is a overall rule for every type of skin? So if I need my character to be with more tanned skin or more pale, should I just switch the base color to which I need and it will do? Or it changes the rule of color areas?
I believe so
👍
Hi, Sir, how are you?
Your training is very good. Congrats!!
In this video you had mentioned:
"...you can download it from the link in the description if you want to follow along precisely with me..."
Therefore, I could not find this related link for its download. Would you provide me this link so I can download your model, please?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks and Regards.
Luiz Cássio-Brazil
Same here!
I must say that I really love the first part because it really helped me with starting sculpting but when I start Vertex Paint it becomes for some reason really slow, like one tap with my brush and I'll wait about 2 seconds before I'll see any color. It makes my brush strokes very blocky and unatural and I don't know what to do with it, and my vertices number is lower then 500.000
Are you using the latest version of blender
I have been following your tutorial. It has been great - thank you! I am stuck. I can't paint while in the sculpting workspace in vertex-paint mode in Materials preview Display mode. I can easily paint in solid display mode. I attached a color attribute to the base color in the materials pane. At 3.07 of your video, you are in the sculpting workspace, Vertex paint mode and Materials preview Display. Any help guiding me through this is GREATLY appreciated. I am a new technology teacher at a high school and I would love to have my students use this tutorial. Thanks, Dave
update: I think I had too many vertices (over 1,000,000). I am using a surface studio gen1. It is an i7, but only 6th generation... I redid everything and I was able to follow the entire tutorial. Thanks again!
I love this method of painting, but I went back to Remesh my model in sculpt mode and it got rid of all the painting I did ;-; is there a way to keep the paint even with remeshing?
I think this is something they are working on in blender 4.1
nice video, just a tip: make your cursor bigger, sometimes i completely lost it. have a nice day. 🙂
Thanks
🔥👍❤️🙏💪
Hi, great thanks, will this also work on sculpts with the multiresolution modifier ? Thanks
yes
@@grabbitt Ok thanks!
Question - when texture painting how should the lighting be set up during the painting process? What should the world be set at and then should you have other lights in there and if so how? Or does it matter
Keep in material preview mode and it doesn't matter too much
@@grabbitt why do you use vertex settings for painting not texture from the drop down menu
@@nicolec4480 you need low poly meshes for texture painting
what is the difference between using your method and regular texture painting Mode ?
this is a lot faster to set up and a better drawing experience. But you need to bake it to export to game engines
Why my vertex paint only paints b&w? Is it a bug? :(
Sounds like it
Well I really like the video but you didn't explain how we would save the custom vertex paint skin ??? Can it be used for other characters or??
Do you mean the palette
I was hoping after you texture paint their should be away to save out the painted texture so it could be used in unreal, unity, or godot as a material or texture
@@davestomper3428 look up baking
did u retopology the mesh before shading
No
Did u do uv
You don't need to for vertex paint
i'm using the 4.0.2 version and seems like Shift + k isn't working, maybe they moved it to another shortcut i dunno but i had to paint all of with by hand. I searched through the comments and found the solution, use Ctrl + x instead of Shift + k
It's totally an awesome tutorial :D i've made my very first sculpture and honestly i was afraid that i couldn't handle it but it was way more easy and fun than i tought, ofc all thanks to you :) i love the way you teach, your voice is so calm and soft it doesn't make me tired even if i listen for a long time :3
Possible shoft x now. I think someone mentioned in the comments
@@grabbitt i searched trough the comments and found it thx anyway :)
@@SeonVespera it is control + X now in 4.x blender
@@st3vez yeah i found it, thanks tho
@@SeonVespera it is mostly for other people looking for solution to the same problem in the comments, but no worries ;)
Please help me 😢
Unwrapping problem texture iam applying to alien airship upper circular part of airship stretched in vertical z axis becoming bigger stretched lines
Adjust the Unwrap scale in the UV editor. on the effected axis while in render so you can see your adjustments on the model as you do them.
A Blender sculpt to Substance Painter, please.
I used this for sculptober but didnt realise that there can be multiple attributes.
In blender 4.0 Shift + k Is now shift + X
Thanks
The texture painting works in my view port but goes black when I enter render. My material preview is also black, I'm so lost.
Have you saved the texture and is it hooked up
if i made a little bit different face inspired and followed by you can i sell it ?
Yes
thank you 😇@@grabbitt
Have I been saying attribute wrong this whole time?
Hey how do you stop it from painting the eye's?
Keep the eyes as superstar objects
@@grabbitt Ah ty
Can you tell me how I can separate the upper and ther lower lip apart for lip-syncing??
Plz help me.
And Which youtube chaneel is best for learning blender animations??/
Answer my questions plz.
Easiest with retopology

I'll look into it
same over here, did u solve it?
use CTRL + X@@mateosantinusandizaga4181
I dunno why, but if I try to paint or set a material colour in shadinw, nothing happens. I see no colour on my sculpture :/ Unwrapping tutorial too, the tool dont unwrap me anything
same
Is anyone else having a problem with Undo in Vertex Paint? It doesn't seem to work at all.
Should be ok
there is no link in description to download the face
it was in the previous video where you sculpt the face but i've placed in in the description now
@@grabbittthank you
This was a fire tutorial, but how can we export it to game engines
You have to retopologize and bake
Im lagging a lot when painting?!.. Bad PC?
Possibly yes
i dont have colour attribute
have you got the recent version of blender
maybe not thanks@@grabbitt
How do I erase😭
You choose the colour you want to erase to
is this the same when it comes to painting dark skin color
Yes
I enjoy your tutorials, but FTLOG can you *please* say the word "attribute" correctly? Emphasis on the second syllable (the way you say it) is the verb: a-TRIB-yoot. Emphasis on the first syllable (the way you *should* be saying it) is the noun: AT-rib-yoot. I wouldn't comment if it was mentioned a few times, but I'm at 2:34 and it's killing me already. :)
shift K doesnt work
You cannot just go from sculpting to texture paint. I'm getting wierd patchy spots on the surface using your tutorial. I think uv unwrapping is missing and I probably doing it wrong
It's not texture painting it's vertex painting
@@grabbitt sorry my bad, I need to rewatch and pay more attention lol.
No problem at all, its an easy mistake to make
@@grabbitt is there a way to make it less lagging? when i decimate the mesh it start to look ugly and still lagging a bit
@csabarista3499 using the multires modifier is the answer but it's a touch complicated to explain. Check my videos on the subject
😢😢
I like your work. but "sculpting" is not possible to animate
An easy way to go around this is using the Multiresolution modifier. You can get a base mesh and have a multi res modifier added then you can increase the subdivisions and go on to sculpt the necessary details. Once done sculpting, you just bake the details in a normal map and you can adjust the poly count by reducing the subdivisions
@@bmzih Yes i shall try.Thanks
You really should properly credit Sinix and link him in this as it is the basis of your lesson.
Lol it isn't it looks like his own Gamedev course that he made. He's been teaching blender for over 15 years man, to think Sinix owns this 'sculpt shape' or any tools Grant is using is a huge stretch.
Yeah, unfortunately, I wasn't completely sure it was them and found the image on Pinterest, which did not reference where it was from.
