Always been a huge fan of this song.. Never knew it had a video.. But what talent.. What a voice.. Voice of an angel.. Can't think of a single artist who could write this, let alone write and sing as well as she can..
Unlike Taylor, Debbie didn’t need the internet and social media to become famous. Debbie’s raw talent as a singer/songwriter/composer was all she needed.
This is one of the greatest songs . Her voice is unbelievable . So beautiful . The original on Spotify is 7 minutes long . High and lows and so much stuff to do on your voice . She supposed to have written this . She should of become a movie music soundtrack . At the start of the 90s the grunge era , really put a hurting on hearing this unbelievable voice . Too bad !
Unfortunately the single was butchered.Though a great song, it was too long for Top 40 radio. Another ballad such as "Sure" probably would've been better for a single. Only if VH1 and adult contemporary radio took notice since it appeared MTV and Top 40 have ignored her by 1991.
I can see Debbie Gibson as versatile artist. She could perform different characters in your songs but in the same time being the same person that show how great artist she is.
In the day, she was my favorite singer one of them. I love her voice, and she made a movie a really good, teacher in the school. it’s so good of a movie. Her voice is still wonderful.
I've always loved the song, but the follow up to "Anything Is Possible" should have been "Reverse Psychology"; or, if it had to be a ballad in the "Foolish Beat" and "Lost In Your Eyes" tradition to see if she could win back the fans of those songs, a more safe choice would have been "One Hand, One Heart".
It did not matter what singles where released, by the time this album came out radio had already stopped playing her. Back then, radio had so much power over an artists success. Great Song!
@@MR-fx9gg I remember by the time AIP came out, they started that jukebox channel and that was the only time I could see her videos (we had to pay for each song request)! I miss the old VH1 and MTV days of them actually playing videos all day (with occasional shows - they used to show Young Ones, Monkees, and Monty Python). I used to be so excited for new premieres and the daily countdowns and marathons. :-(
New Years Eve 1953 (as noted at the beginning of the video) is a bit of artistic license with a soundtrack like this. But that's alright. Deb soars here, as always. Job well done.
Deb was/is a fan of 50's pop culture, which her first car was a Ford Fairlane and "Grease" is her favorite movie. In fact, she appeared in two productions of the music in the 1990's. Famously as Sandy in the London West End production of "Grease" (1993).
Almost all pop acts flopped in the first half of the 90s. Sooner or later. Debbie Gibson: "Out of the Blue" (1987) went multi-platinum in the USA. "Electric Youth" (1989) also went multi-platinum. "Anything Is Possible" (1990) went gold. "Body Mind Soul" (1993) did not even go gold. Paula Abdul: "Forever Your Girl" (1988) - 7× Platinum "Spellbound" (1991) - 3× Platinum "Head over Heels" (1995) - Gold Taylor Dayne: "Tell It to My Heart" (1988) - 2× Platinum "Can't Fight Fate" (1989) - 2× Platinum "Soul Dancing" (1993) - Gold "Naked Without You" (1998) - - etc. So Debbie was not the only one.
I always thought Debbie Gibson had potential to crossover to the adult contemporary charts, but was unfortunately pigeonholed as a 80s pop princess and Atlantic Records didn't promote her third album compared to her first two. Several of Debbie's peers from the 80s such as Taylor Dayne, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, and George Michael still had success and there were artists close to her style from Wilson Phillips and Amy Grant's pop crossover.

I wonder why the public didnt respond to this album? I think she was getting too ambitious in her music. This isnt the usual tuneful pop she was known for. The album version was ovre 7 minutes long
Dude I remember rushing home from school every day for weeks after I saw the cassette single for this song at Camelot music. I was dying to see the video and they never played it!!! It was then that I realized Debbie was no longer queen and her time had come to an end. It legit made me sad! Then I learned there was a video about 10 years ago! It was better late than never. I love that she's still doing stuff today and having fun with her music even though she really doesn't sound very good anymore 😕
Well I can only imagine what went through the mind of others against God's plans? I'm not making any sense of my belonging to one while I was vacationing, to going home, APPROACHED just to betray someone else. I met him as another. But I was too smart to not figure out the jest of right and wrongs in a situation. Bullshit is what it is.
I’ve always liked this song, but the single version is so weird. Why on earth would they cut out the entire second verse and make three quarters of the song just her repeating the chorus? The original is arguably too long anyway-it could easily have been six minutes or even five-but I really think a better edit could have made this a hit.
I don't like the way this song was edited. While I like the original nearly 8 minute song, for editing purpose (radio airplay), having all the verses and bridge and just singing the chorus twice should be good because the chorus does sound repetitive on the album version. So it would go something like this: VERSE 1: Baby, what ever did I do (I do, I do, I do...) To make you not only turn away But turn, oh so far away Never considering turning back VERSE 2: I need you to know I'll never smile Until we reconcile (until we reconcile) I know now that that won't happen Somehow I'll try and cope But I just can't get out of my head That glimmer of hope Everybody tells me I need time away from you But your the only thing in my world And that's the last thing I wanna do VERSE 3: Baby, whatever did I do To make you not only go away But twist every word I say To make the tables turn... VERSE 4: You're sayin' I'm the one who's at the core Yes, I'm the one who glanced at the door (Oh, slammed the door) But you're the one who turned the handle Tried to burn the candle at both ends At both ends you lead me On and on and on You really, really took me Now you've left, my mind is gone CHORUS: It's gonna take a miracle To give up my hope and get on with my life Oh that mystic moment A split-second stop Of my heart And with this miracle Comes unwanted reality 'Cause this so-called miracle Has turned into a tragedy BRIDGE: It's easy to give advice When your heart's not in it But the best thing for me to do is let go But somehow I get lonely It's hard to stand and face the crowd Doin' a one-woman show (Instrumental) Everybody tells me I need time away from you But your the only thing in my world And that's the last thing I wanna do Then the final Chorus: It's gonna take a miracle (It's gonna, it's gonna take a miracle) To give up my hope and get on with my life (It's gonna, it's gonna take a miracle) Mystic moment A split-second stop Of my heart And with this miracle (It's gonna take a...) Comes unwanted reality (I don't want a reality) This so-called miracle Has turned into a tragedy Tragedy
One of the few 80s female singers who never sold her soul to the industry....
Dirty shame this song and album didn't do better on the charts. This song is solid.
The whole album! I thought I was the only one

Look for the live version( I think from Japan). It's so damn good

Rock in rio 1991 live version is my favorite
More depth and range than most other talent.
True!
Such grace Debbie had and still has.you’d don’t hear anything about her in bad ways in past several years unlike most of these artists
A very good song. She’s talented. I’m still a fan of Debbie.
I never thought that there was a video of this song. Sure was the DG hit in the Philippines 🇵🇭 back in the early 90s.

Add Tina Arena to that list too. She ended up getting fired from her label. 🤷 Too many cowboys in the music industry.

At both ends you lead me
On and on and on
You really, really took me
Now you've left, my mind is gone

BRIDGE:
It's easy to give advice
When your heart's not in it
But the best thing for me to do is let go
But somehow I get lonely
It's hard to stand and face the crowd
Doin' a one-woman show
(Instrumental)
Everybody tells me I need time away from you
But your the only thing in my world
And that's the last thing I wanna do
Then the final Chorus:
It's gonna take a miracle
(It's gonna, it's gonna take a miracle)
To give up my hope and get on with my life
(It's gonna, it's gonna take a miracle)
Mystic moment
A split-second stop

Comes unwanted reality (I don't want a reality)
This so-called miracle
Has turned into a tragedy
