    Great job, finally a YT fashion guy who tells the difference between valuable fashion accessories of reputable brands and overpriced cheap no name Chinese junk. That said, the Orient Bambino is surely one of the top choices with a dress, you can't go wrong with that one. Swatch produces also cool looking stainless steel classic watches and Chrono (have one). Citizen Eco Drives are a no brainer, too, I bought mine back in 2001 and it still looks (and works) as new, despite its all day use. I have to check Monforti though, being a Kickstarter brand lets the alarm bells ring, and having an Italian name doesn't mean anything. I must say, they look nice. The question is, if the quality is worth the price.

    • @JustARandomFio
      @JustARandomFio 6 років тому +2

      Just checked Kickstarter and website of Monforti and I must say, it looks very good. The designs are really subtle and classy and the specified materials sound very good for the targeted price range. They claim the watches are produced by an Italian manufacturer but unfortunately don't provide more details (at least I didn't see any further info). That's a shame, I personally would mention it if it's a reputable one, to give more value to my brand. I guess they deserve a closer look.

    I know you cover fashion for men, but as a person (female) who's getting into watches more I always wondered if I was getting the best quality for my dollar (even more so when I always have to convert to USD from CAD). I have watched a couple videos and honestly, learning about the leather, glass and movement pieces just changed the game for me and even made me review my two purchases of "fashion watches" (Rosefield and The Horse).
    I want to continue buying watches but I'm thankful to having a more discerning eye. I found you while looking at whether Paul Valentine was worth because there was a Chinese "knockoffs" on AliExpress (and admittedly, I had been coveting a MVMT watch but was always thwarted on price - so thanks for waking me from that stupor!)
    Thanks a bunch and keep up the wonderfully easy to listen and informative videos :)

    Outstanding, informative and entertaining video. Like everything, I am sure that there are as many that swear by their MVMT....as there are that swear AT them! My daughter wants to buy her boyfriend (who admired a Movado one day) a watch for Christmas....and she almost pulled the lever on buying an MVMT watch as an alternative to the Movado which is out of her price range. I own a couple of high end watches, as well as an original Seiko 7309 “turtle”. So like any good concerned dad would do, I stepped in and inquired exactly what she thought her boyfriend was looking for in a watch -- and.your video confirmed some of my suspicions regarding MVMT. I am now helping her focus on either a Seiko or a Citizen. Thanks again. Now to get rid of the boyfriend........

    You can find as junghans max bill line watch for roughly that price if you look hard enough or buy one gently used. If you're willing to go quartz, then you can definitely snag one in that price range. I got the max bill automatic chrono 'used' for just a little bit over your budget (turns out it still had the original plastic film on it and the former owner never wore it, so I got very lucky there). The max bill line is classic bauhaus minimalist design, designed by and/or influenced by Max Bill himself.

      Tissot is incredible, what you get for the price is something almost no other brand will offer.
      Tissot has proper brand heritage and history, their quality is good, and every time you wear and look at it you can appreciate it, although Tissot is one of the more affordable Swiss Watch brands, they're well respected.
      They've been making watches since the 1850's and a lot of world sporting events use them for timing, including the NBA. You get a watch with a Swiss movement and rich brand history and quality, Tissot is a perfect gateway into the world of fine watches.
      Also a lot of straps on Tissots can easily be changed or replaced, they have some really nice nato straps which I find to be really comfy. I like Nato straps on most watches.
      Another thing, Tissot generally produces more affordable pieces, however they do have some watches that are actually quite expensive and sought after.

  • @cedricduyongco
    @cedricduyongco 5 років тому +2

    Tissot Everytime is the best alternative I could suggest. Even their Automatic (Swissmatic) version is just slighty more expensive and you get an ETA swiss movement. You could immediately see the quality jump when buying a Tissot compared to the MVMT or a DW. It's in the little details, the machining, the crystal, etc. You can't go wrong with a Tissot.

    It takes so little effort to find out MVMT and other similar comanpies sell crap watches, but people will still buy it because fashion is more important than quality nowadays. A bit out there and maybe unpopular but look at Luch. Not an extremely old brand but a nice bit of history going back to the Minsk watch factory in Belarus, they've been making watches under this name since 1953. They make a lot of different stuff now but perhaps the most iconic Luch, "THE" Luch, is the one-hander (odnostrelochnik). It's a watch with only one hand which once you learn to use, you can tell time to at least 5 minute intervals. It's not extremely accurate but that's the cost of this level of simplicity, and the design is different and novel. Some of their newer products are backed by Miyota movements, but for the one-hander it has unique Belarusian internals, caliber 1801. It's a 15 jewel mechanical watch, all hand winding. Oh, did I mention its only 50 bucks? And it gets crazy style points especially if you're a hipster who likes MVMT watches. It's a beautiful vintage design with double digit Arabics with wonderful Cyrillic letters for the logo and labeling. Their logo is gorgeous simplicity, it's their own name in Belarusian cursive, written like a signature. The only negative I can really think of is some of them don't come with very good straps, and some of the straps are also noticeably shorter than what we're used to from most brands. Some people with larger wrists have had to replace the strap to even get the watch on. But for 50-55 dollars U.S. you have enough money to get a half way decent strap, band, bracelet, whatever you want. And it's also not an extremely high quality watch overall, but it's got to be better than a MVMT, and it's a mechanical watch for the price of many quartz watches out there.

    i just bought a seiko 5 as my first watch, loved it so much. i got it after looking up what to buy, what not to buy, etc etc. and like many people who just got into something, i kinda had the "oh i know quite a bit" attitude just based on the miniscule research i have done and proceed to trash on DW and MVMT.
    anyway, i was talking to my friend about watches and he asked why i bought a seiko 5. i rambled on about how great of a watch it is, how it has a kind of cult following, how reliable and affordable it is, etc, and i thrashed DW and MVMT for being overpriced chinese mass production crap with a logo slapped on it (which i still believe is true). anyway, my friend is not really a watch guy, but he owns 1 or 2. turns out he just bought a DW for $200, and just looked so sad after all the shit i've said.
    felt so, so bad about it. i need to learn that if i can't say anything good about something, if it's not really necessary, just keep my damn mouth shut.

    You should take "Sternglas" into that list. They discontinued their current line (due to some legal conflict?) but will launch a new one in September. Very young and promising german company! I disagree with Linjer... I think that for $250 USD you should at least be able to expect an automatic movement, especially in a dress watch. $250 for a quartz movement is a bit high, even with Sapphire Crystal

    I am not into watches but recently wanted to buy one just to have one to wear to weddings and other events. I saw the MVMT commercials and thought about that until thank God I watched your videos and a few others telling the truth about MVMT so they were OUT. I just wanted a nice looking watch for my wrist for different events. I then looked at Paul Rich which look like a better buy. I then looked on Amazon and as far as I can tell the WWOOR watch I bought for 23 bucks is the exact same thing as the 99 dollar Paul Rich. I will use this for a while and see how it goes. Maybe I end up with Paul Rich if this breaks in 2 months but as far as I can tell the WWOOR is EXACTLY the same as the Paul Rich and probably made in the same plant as the Paul Rich in China.

    I've had a Sekonda chronograph watch for 12 years - they aren't expensive but I think they're worth their price. And last year I came across a DuFa DF-9002-01 Van der Rohe Men's Chronograph watch for some 33% of its original price. Swiss watches are known for their quality but after buying the DuFa watch I started thinking of buying another German watch e.g. something from Iron Annie or Zeppelin watch collections.
