The only US based decent brand I know of with cheaper models has been mentioned in the video: Timex. Other than that, try the Japanese, the Swiss and the Germans.
Casio, Citizen, Seiko, Orient, Swatch, Tissot, Mido, Wenger, Junkers... have somewhat affordable (quartz) lines.

I’ve purchased 3 mvmt watches as a 15 year old, their extremely simple and cool designs is what motivated me to purchase them. I had no watch history at all, just a teenager looking for a cool watch. I watched reviews online and they all said they were great. After receiving the watches I loved them and so did my friends, because neither me or my friends are watch guys. This guy is extremely right on how they targeted gullible audiences like me, who don’t buy watches. If you’re just someone who wants a cool watch, I would honesty recommend them because I personally do like the way they look. After doing research and watching alternatives , this video really opened my eyes on how companies are able to sell their products purely due to uninformed audiences. Thanks

When you buy quality 'cheap' watches from brands like Seiko, Orient, Citizen etc, 99% of the time they look BETTER than they did online. It's funny that MVMT product renders and marketing materials look so good, when more traditional and better watch companies like Seiko often have terrible product photos but much better looking watches up close and personal. When I bought my SARB017 the product photos really don't make it stand out, but in person it's incredible.

I went to school for marketing and I've noticed a lot of these companies shell out for brand ambassadors on social media. It makes sense to offer products to a smaller page on Instagram and have them make a post or two about that product, but some of these companies shell out millions this kind of advertising. Seems kind of dishonest to have someone promoting a product on Instagram that they don't even actually use, just because a company like MVMT gave them a bunch of money. I owned a Seiko 5 for a couple years, best watch under $100 by far. Fashion watches, including the big fashion names like Armani, Boss, Gucci...etc are just horribly overpriced dogshit. Spend £100 on a Seiko 5 or a second hand Orient Mako to get good looking quality.

Actually Gucci is now incorporating real Swiss calibers to its products, and real high end fashion brands like Hermes, LV, Bvlgari and Dior has high horology complications like tourbillons, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars. Understand your point, tho.

Great video , Orient has so many options in this range , in fact I have a second generation bambino and fourth generation bambino , I'm gonna do a comparative review on . Four generations of Bambino with mostly in house movement at same price really with and they have that bahuass look at least the second gen does,

Any Seiko 5 with an aftermarket strap on it will kill any claims of value that MVMT makes.. Automatic, good finishing, great strap quality to your own standards, etc

Hi Ben, thank you for your video and detailed explanation of the facts. I feel perhaps the reason why MVMT wanted to 'sponsor' you was to silence you from making videos exposing their business practice and products - 'allegedly' - So Ben, they HAVE seen your videos but have used a crafty 'technique' to change matters. You have to remember, PR and Marketing IS their game. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on watches and enjoy a lovely Christmas and New Year.

This is actually what Bethesda try to do with Yong Yea. When Yong keep talking about Bethesda's blunders they sent him a collector package for Fallout 76 but it backfired when baggate happened. Also Yong actually showed his audience what Bethesda did and it just making Bethesda looks desperate.

I'm so glad someone is finally calling them out and bringing this to light. You're 100% right about these watches. Cheap private labeled devices.
It always makes me really sad when I see a creator/influencer I enjoy promoting these things.

MVMT, DW, Kate Spade, MK are social media watches.
Promoted by people who know nothing about watches for people who know nothing about watches, all they care is a name.
DW for instance, uses the lowest and cheapest metal alloy available on market, coated with golden or silver metallic paint to make them look expensive. And will start to rust as soon as they get in contact with sweat. Underneath the dial, is a cheap Chinese generic movement, that cost no more than $3 to manufacture.
DW says: Our watches are minimalist.
Translation: The generic chinese movement we use in our watches is sooooooo cheap, that doesn't even come with date complication.
On top of that, they *shamelessly* charge their uninformed customers $350 for a piece of junk.
In alibaba.com those exact same watches can be found at 9 dollars, just without the DW painted on the dial.
In other words, 97% of the price a person pay is for those 2 letters printed on the dial of a generic Chinese watch that has no heritage, no craftsmanship, and most of all, no value.

I’m sure you can guess but certain youtubers got me into fashion watches. Luckily I did my research and I can safely say I’ve dodged a bullet. Personally, I’d say look into the Orient brand. For around the same cost you can get an automatic open heart which is definitely going to catch the eye. Hey Ben, if the strap of a watch matches the shoes and belt and the metal matches the metal respectively, does the dial color of the watch matter?

    • @BenArthur
      @BenArthur  5 років тому +4

Hey! I say you can match whichever part you want. So in that case yes you can match the metal or you can match the face to give you more options :)

I ended up buying one of these for my wedding a couple of years ago, and in the time it took to arrive i had done some research about them. I ended up returning it and bought an Orient Bambino which i really liked a lot. I was shocked how cheap the strap was and how crummy the watch felt. Glad i returned it.
