GT500 Mustang runs Fastest Production Car Lap of the Weekend: NASA Thunder Qualifying @ GingerMan

Saturday 6/15/24 qualifying session for the Thunder race group at GingerMan Raceway. Running the fastest lap during warm-up earned the MAP Data Systems Mustang P1 for qualifying, and the team took advantage of the clear track. The #3 GT500 killed the GingerMan curbs on its way to the fastest lap of any production car all weekend, a 1:39.9. A 1 of 5-built Staudacher S12 race car was there for the purpose of setting a new lap record, which it did (an incredible 1:23), but that’s certainly not a production car. No other production car logged a time below 1:40. @drivenasa @nasagreatlakes

The 1:39.9 lap included very bad turns 1-2, very good turns 5-6, and very mediocre turns 7-11. Accordingly, we think we left a couple of seconds out on the track. Nonetheless, the team was happy to clock a 1:39, which was one of our goals for the weekend.

Clean driving. Can you move your seat forward at all? It really looks like your arms are hitting full extension during turns, you would have a lot more control if you can keep your elbows bent.
