As a child, my mother would get up every morning and make us eggs, bacon/sausage, grits with butter before she had to be at work at 8:00 AM. We never had a sweet breakfast. When I went off to college I was introduced to sweetened oatmeal and dessert at every meal. Weight gain, depression, bulimia, and fibromyalgia followed for decades. Now I follow intermittent fasting, eat whole foods and limited starches. At 69, I feel better than I did at 19. Food can be medicine or poison. Thank you for this chat!
Try having a few dates washed or black raisins or dry cranberrys, & natural pure palm or cane mollasses with or after meals, etc. for better absorption of all nutrients & a 😂 sweet fulfilled after or better with meals. Soaked or simmered oatmeal with a drop of molass Or honey. I also take alot of fresh tender ginger ; & some mother vinegar & fresh lemon juices twice a day. As a liver & blood cleanser, try small Bitter gourds like Karela skin raw, / juice ; & some tender Neem leaves chewed raw/pasted & quick oil saute fry into mashed potatoe salads, or saute fry it with onion sliced + potato, or in a cup of 5 minute stewed 'shukto' bengali curry soup with rice. Try as a cup of roast powdered hot night cap tea or overnight soaked methi fenugreek as a daily drink & soaked slimy water of Ladies finger as health drinks.! 🌿💐🌾💚🌈🌱

This woman is changing so many people's lives for the better. She's down to earth, realistic and doesn't ask for any huge dietary changes, no cutting out or cutting down, just simple changes that are SO easy to incorporate. OK, a ripple effect may happen over time, but the initial changes require no extra effort.
Yes but it's best to try and eliminate sugary things to minimum and just have as an occasional treat .I love sugary things but have cut out biscuits cakes and chocolate and sweets fr a few weeks now and real food tastes better. I saw Jessie discussing this on the Diary of a CEO podcast and thought, 'No way can eating veggies first make that much difference'. Well, I'm wearing a continuous glucose monitor and am astonished at the results. I've only been doing this for 2 days, but the impact has been immediate. I've gone from peaking my postprandial glucose levels at over 20 mmol/L to my highest peak being 10.4 mmol/L, and that was after having a jacket potato - I decided to really test this with something that would typically cause me to spike very high. I also added a few small gherkins to my veggies to replace drinking vinegar in water. I can barely believe what I see in the readings, but I can feel the difference, so I know it's true. Why doesn't the NHS let all the diabetics know about this?
@@annonimbouz851 Yes, I ate watercress, rocket, spinach, sauerkraut, coleslaw, micro greens and a few small gherkins. After eating most of that, I ate a couple of Beyond burgers with asparagus and once I'd eaten most of that, I had a jacket potato with vegan butter. I still left some veggies and burger to eat with the potato, but I didn't wait at all once I'd started eating.

A few days ago I didn't know Jessie. I'm obese and 3 weeks ago I decided "that's enough, I don't feel good anymore, this has to change!". So I went on the web and watched and listened to various experts but I was not satisfied. I'm scientifically educated but I knew nothing about biochemistry or metabolic mechanisms. At that time I had already suppressed all junk food from my diet (1.5 liter of Ice Tea and 4 or 5 sugar cubes in my coffee per day, pasta, rice and potatoes - fried most of the time - as my staple diet) and to make good measure I had introduced more fibers to my diet by eating green vegetables and berries. After 3 days my blood pressure went from 140/90 under medication to 125/85 so I decided to stop the medication. My blood pressure has remained there, sometimes even lower. My ankles and legs that were extremely swollen, all of a sudden had deflated completely. My chronic heartburn of 20 years+ also disappeared and I don't take anymore my 40mg/day of pantoprazole. Then I discovered Dr Lustig. He instantly became one of my gurus, confirming through his scientific lectures what I probably felt intuitively. Somehow he made me understand that I was probably not only obese but on my way to T2 diabetes and NAFLD, which reinforced my determination though shifting my focus from weight loss to avoidance of metabolic diseases. But I had the feeling that something was still missing, so I started research on how digestion works. Then literally 2 days ago I tumbled on Jessie. Immediately she became extremely inspiring to me: maths studies, biochemistry, investigations into unfamiliar territories and vulgarization. In addition she's French - like me - and very charismatic. I won't research any further as I feel through a few channels like yours and Dr Lustig and Jessie I now have all the information I need to change my life once and for all. Weight loss starts showing (3kg in 3 weeks), my determination is ironclad thanks to you all!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Both of you are an inspiration. I am a 72 year young Native American Elder. As a grand and great grandmother I am always looking for ways to share our traditions with the next generation and work diligently at tying to bring in as much science as I can to prove how and why these ancient wisdom's still work today! For generations we never had so many emotional illnesses, because we ate the food we honored, as we took it naturally/freshly from the land. My travels to Japan have shown me how the pickled veggies served as appetizers (bringing in the acids of the vinegar) and the abundance of veggies served prior to the raw fish or other high protein entree', followed by a fruity sweet treat or a very tiny portion of sherbet has helped them stay so fit for life. There is very little obesity, diabetes, or short life expectancy. I see how the Eskimo folks of the far north tribes stay healthy and fit by eating the best natural, seasonal foods with no processed foods or artificial sugars. It only makes sense that it is time for the world to get away from the crazy processed food chain and reach for more normal blood glucose levels, through your wise and easy to follow recommendations. I started intermittent fasting in 2019 and kept doing it till late 2022 - and during 2022 I was gaining weight. I gave up trying to lose weight and tried eating normally - which is more or less healthy because I cook most of my meals. But I noticed I started snacking more and drinking sweet stuff like soda and juice more. I gained some more weight and I wasn't too happy with my eating habits. Then I stumbled on Jessie's interview - I think it was on the Diary of a CEO - and it was so interesting I wanted to try right away. Well, I reintroduced intermittent fasting AND using Jessie's hacks for stabilizing glucose levels. I don't measure my glucose, but I feel fantastic. I hardly want anything sweet. I can easily skip a meal and not feel any lack of energy. And I started losing weight. Actually, when I think of it, my favorite foods are fiber, protein and fat. I love salads, meat, beans, eggs - and I'm not really a fan of bread and pasta. I love that I can eat 2 times a day and not feel hungry or dying from a rapid glucose fall. I love food but I hate thinking about it many times a day and having to throw something in the furnace to keep going.
I’ve been using the hacks she shared on another podcast I fist saw her on and since then I’ve noticed that most of my snack cravings have gone. Even when my partner stocked up our house with a bunch of snacks which I usually can’t help but eat quickly, I haven’t even touched one and I don’t even want to. I started to follow all these tips a month ago; I was taking medicine for my sugar, and now I Feeling great, my blood sugar has gone down a lot, I drink more water, unique the vinegar, before meals, and after seven months I got my period again. Microwaves happened therefore ready meals happened, take aways happened and women working long hours happened so that they were too tired to cook from scratch at 7 maybe 8 at night. Those things still stand. Overcoming them, overcoming the temptations is the hard part. I'm retired now and was brought up with cooking from scratch and I've gone back to it but often, I batch cook so that, if I'm tired, I don't have to. There's nothing like cooking fresh veg on top of the stove though. It tastes so good, I love it. I also love these videos, so helpful. My cholesterol has gone down from 6.9 to 5.5 and I hope it's still dropping.
Keep in touch with the idea that unattended emotional/mental issues will flare up as physical symptoms too. When Jessie spoke of feeling different after her accident and surgery, I could relate. Everything changed for me after a scoliosis surgery at 11 years old. My whole system changed developing allergies, asthma, eczema, and by 22 was on my way to full blown Crohn's disease that nearly killed me. One of the things my body was speaking to me about was unattended trauma that peaked with the initial surgery. I believe food habits (cravings) can easily be another way the body is trying to get my mind's attention. eat the food have the symptoms figure out the puzzle. The kicker is, how long has western culture insisted that the body is just a machine; a bag of parts to be manipulated into what we want, to be subdued when acting out? It took me decades to see that there is a language of body being missed, and that break is the main cause of continued unnecessary suffering. And which comes first, the symptom or the mental/emotional suffering?
Im surprised no1 has done a study on how eating sugar can cause worsened cravings in drug addiction. Im a recovered Hetoin addict. An once i got my diet better i noticed i stopped thibking about using drugs. An when i slipped with carbs, i would notice if started to get cravings for drugs back. I swear there should ABSOLUTELY DO A STUDY ON THIS!
I had the same experience with THC, I know not the same level has heroin, but eating sugar made me want THC more and also have more agressif, violent behaviors/reactions, thank you for writing this and validation my observations with sugar
There is research that shows people with severe mental illness who are on behavioral health meds will often crave lots of candy and soda... In particular Mt Dew and the sour candies. These are linked to the deficiencies these meds can cause on our nutrition. Ex. Craving sour candies usually indicates low vitamin K. Vitamin K increases appetite. Older people with severe malnutrition are often given vitamin K to improve their appetite. It's all connected.

While working with five year olds in a program at the YMCA, there was one sweet little guy who would occasionally get crazy and once tried to bite me during a fit. Talking with his mother, I asked if she'd noticed patterns of such behavior connected with sugary foods for breakfast. As she thought about it, I saw her see the light as she nodded yes, he'd had toaster waffles with syrup that morning. It's so important for everyone to learn about this!
I've just thought back to my most recent worst anxiety attacks and they've all happened after a period of eating a lot of chocolates such as Christmas and birthdays. If Jessie's work is accurate, then this could literally change my life.
When you’re having a bad time, chocolate can be a goto comfort. If that is the case, denying yourself chocolate maybe denying yourself comfort. For my weight loss, one trick I used was to still have desert. But limit myself to one forkful. Or one chocolate. But to savour it. To make it last the same length of time as when I normally ate it. I still got the same amount of pleasure. But way less calories. Way less sugar/fat spike.
@redelfshotthefood8213 Similarly, I follow a 3 bite rule with desserts or other not so nutrition foods. Science shows 3 bites are fully satisfying... you can train yourself to stop after 3 bites on those special treats.

35:17 i think that applies to smoking too. I often find that sometimes, ill try to smoke right before work so i feel less anxious and more "energized" but ironically i usually feel a little more tired afterwards even though im calmer. My key takeaway from that point is some things give you pleasure and you think they're giving you energy. Mind blowing

I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic 7 years and managed to get my blood sugar under the diabetic threshold by changing my diet. I followed her order. It works. i have necer been able dient in the past but with eating vegetables first I ate less sugar and carbs I was. I really could reduce the sugar spike eventually. I earlier used to feel damn sleepy after eating anything but now I feel very energetic. I am 31 years and have never felt so good after a meal even when I was younger. I have improved my sleep as well. I also believe in algorithmic way of doing things. I completely believe that you have to hit the right tone to achieve anything. It's just about the technique. With the right technique we can move mountains. And I think her method would work for anyone. I want to thank her. It was fortuitous that i landed on one of her videos.

I am a very healthy 80yr old, take no medication of any kind. Walk a big dog 3X a day for a total of 2 hrs. I sleep well, all night and if I can find time I have an afternoon nap. I eat the way my grandmother ate. Freshly cooked food, based on protein, cooked in animal fat, no oil and dessert only on Sunday. Nothing from a tin, a box or a packet and sugar rarely. Modern, non food does not have a place in my life.

She’s saying it’s not too hard because it’s the same food, but I actually like how the food tastes together and how the taste of the vegetables complement the meat taste when I eat. In my culture (Black Americans) have always used vinegar as an accent to food to enhance flavor & routine practice to make a vinegar pepper dressing to add to veggies or whatever you're eating.

Growing up every meal had a salad first. Restaurants always had a salad with your meal and then it changed because of inflation and they started to charge extra for a dinner salad. Now salads are barely on the menu, if it all. So it all comes back around again. Now we know why starting with a salad is important.
I'm waiting on her book in the mail but I've already begun following her advice with vinegar soaked veggies and a hand full of almonds before my meal and I've been feeling great during the day. Really excited to dig more fully into her protocols. ❤
My son has Type 1 diabetes and wears a CGM. I am going to implement some of these hacks with him to see if might make a difference. I have found oats to be a terrible breakfast for him. We usually have bacon and eggs for breakfast. The days he has porridge his blood sugars are all over the place! We also have found the days he is very active his bg levels are much more stable. It is much much harder to control bg levels in type 1. Even a piece of whole fruit will spike his blood sugar way up. It is extremely difficult to live with. I am going to try introducing salad with ACV before each meal! I love making ACV in the summer and autumn. I have ordered Jessie's book!
I eat oat porridge made out of the cut in half oat grans, I never use flakes. Also, eat it as a last part of my breakfast, a sort of dessert (because there is a fresh berry in it). Also, it is very tasty when it is salty and not sweet - I like it with a bit of cheese grated on top. Oat flakes are quite bad, even a jumbo one.
I’ve heard her suggest pairing fruit with fats/protein (e.g. Greek yoghurt, on top of chia pudding, , after eating nuts, etc). Fruit does contain fibre which helps decrease the glucose spike but it is still high in sugar so adding the protein/fats should help reduce the spike

I've been eating low-carb/keto/carnivore for 9 weeks, have lost some weight, but still don't have the energy I should. I want my health and energy back, and to eat in a way that is not so restricted.

For years, I thought I was having panic attacks but it was sugar crashes… I’m still learning how to avoid these. I don’t eat any sugar and very few carbs but still have a sugar crash a couple of times a month..
I am trying this routine with Veggies first and my husband is blown away on how much he feels better and feels fuller quicker. Are you take Levothyroxine/synthroid the synthetic pill or NDT Natural Dessicated Thyroid. I did terrible on synthetic hormone replacement for my hashimotos but excellent results on natural dessicated thyroid
@maxinethirlwall8953 I am taking levothyroxine. Unfortunately, NDT's aren't available as an option in the UK. I'm still symptomatic even though my blood results are in the normal range.
Thank you that order of food has really helped. When I listened I decided to try. On Saturday we eat chips, meat and salad and I’d eat in that order and later I’d feel bloated and I’d feel like the salad was not digested. Then I listened to you and did your order and the last 2 Saturdays I’ve really enjoyed my meal. No more bloating and burping 😅. Thanks
I tried the vinegar with a small salad before meals yesterday and ended up with the worst heartburn and then remembered why I’ve always avoided vinegar anything. I will use the fiber first tip though and try again with fresh lemon or lime. I’ve always naturally saved my carbs for last.
Try a simple vinaigrette on your salad instead: olive oil, vinegar, Dijon if you like, S&P. You could reduce the vinegar content. Will that work if it's combined with olive oil?
@@ygibb7012 love homemade vinaigrette and really wish I could but no, I’ll have to stick to fresh citrus for the acid. I did mix with avocado and a little evoo but it must be something about vinegar, probably the fermentation. I’m fine with small amounts of other fermented foods, weird.
@@marcelladiaz3187 vinegar is a no-go for me, as well. Not because of heartburn but because irritates my throat. I switched to fresh lemon juice on my salads and I much prefer it; it tastes clean in a way.
?what kind of vinegar is being used have you tried the one wiþh mother especially Braggs òrhanic it may work I use organic lemon as an alternative spring. Or alkaline water.
@@valarielacasse803 I’ve tried ACV with the mother as well as the less acidic vinegars like white wine and rice vinegars, no go. If I could have vinegars , my favorite tasting is a good red wine vinegar, actually don’t like the smell or taste of ACV even with the mother. Fresh citrus is really the best replacement for acid in a recipe.
I’m going to buy both of her books. I hope there’s an audio version of them, but if not, I will have to buy the physical written book.😅 I am listening to several authors on eat to beat disease that author and many others as well, and I’m incorporating all of it into my daily routine. In Mediterranean countries, like Portugal where my family is from, we always start a meal with a vegetable soups. In the summer we start with a salad. Followed by lean meat, but mostly grilled fish. It certainly gives the brain time to realize you have eaten and feel satiated. But now I know it is also preparing the stomach for digestion.
When she describes not eating naked carbs it reminds me of the Zone diet from the 90's, based on the principle of balance. I remember weighing the carbs to protein ratio for every meal and agonizing over the choices to create that balance for my blood sugar. Great chat. I could listen & watch Jessie all day. So engaging, enthusiastic & knowledgeable and the hacks are not hard to include. We now eat in the right order, most of the time! My daughter has a type 1 diabetes and wears Dexcom Anytime she gets sad or upset her sugar spikes (no food involved) and also whenever her sugar is too high after certain foods she gets moody and develops an attitude. Also I’ve noticed if she loads up on good protein and then eats carbs it doesn’t hit her blood sugar levels as much and keeps her blood glucose stable
Ikaria island in Greece, a place characterized as a blue zone. They're 105 and 108 years old, respectively, no health problems, perfect memory, don't wear eye glasses, no mobility issues. They basically eat meat (especially lamb), indigenous fruits, greek honey, yogurt, eggs, olive oil, tomatoes and some vegetable but not too much, drink coffee, a little bit of red wine occasionally. They wake up early in the morning, go to sleep around 22: 00 and they never eat after 19: 00. They also walk a lot.
Hey guys! Just wanted to do a two week up-date, first i have endo and PCOS. It hasnt been that long so i cant say for sure what the future will look like, keep this in mind, when doing this but my results so far have been promising. Im not hungry during the day, i dont need to eat as much. I feel my mood is more stable. The most impressive thing has been a massive reduction in bloat and weight, so - 10kg in two weeks, now idk if thats just water weight and bloat we will see. I havent seen an improvement in my pcos and endo symptoms ex. Cramps and pain however this will probably take longer to see any ways! The important thing is i feel great and, i think anyone can do this!! Ps. I dont do the vinegar drink i cant, but i have pickles, cucumbers and beets.

When I first heard Dr. Jessie saying to eat vegetables first, I just tried it to see what would happen. I drank a smoothie with good for you nutrients. After a little while I realized that I hadn’t felt a sugar spike like I would had I eaten carbs first. I will admit that I don’t prefer to eat vegetables first, but, I am amazed how different I feel when I do eat vegetables first. People have asked me how I suddenly got healthier. I tell them I eat my vegetables first. I dropped about 20 pounds pretty fast. Right now I’m not trying to lose weight. However, if I can lose more weight and stay healthy, I would consider it. 🎉😂🎊. I’m 77 years young. 💞🙏💞

in French schools for meals there is always first a starter as some sort of veggie, then the meal which is some meat and potatoes or rice, past and then finish by a dessert. In many countries you eat first a soup or a salad before eating your meat. On another hand, in Poland where I live the savoy breakfast is something standard :)
I had fallen into very bad habits with food. Too much starch. Too many calories. And then: trying to relive the joyous sweet foods of my youth. Way too much. Cooked brain. Bad skin. Terrible sleep. I corrected my diet. But still felt bad. My skin got better. My weight got better. I got tested eventually. Way too high blood sugar. A year on, my brain cloud is gone, my sleep is better. But I wonder if I cooked myself too long... because my blood sugar is still too high. I hope the veggies first hack works. Oh: and my own hack is simple: if you want chocolate or sweets: take very little. But savour it. Savour it as long as you normally would take to consume a whole portion. This gives you the full pleasure without the full sugar and fat.
People may be reluctant to try a new "program" because they have heard so much conflicting advice through the years. This one makes sense. I think I'll try it!

I just want to give a shout out that it’s also all the hidden sugars in beverages, and condiments (high fructose corn syrup, natural flavors) that is so critical to feeling well. Best way to feel better is intermittent fasting, clean water, clean protein and veggies. No sauces! No beverages except water! Do this for a week and see how you feel… And get moving! If you don’t want to exercise, volunteer to help others. The latest science on saunas is interesting…
As a child, my mother would get up every morning and make us eggs, bacon/sausage, grits with butter before she had to be at work at 8:00 AM. We never had a sweet breakfast. When I went off to college I was introduced to sweetened oatmeal and dessert at every meal. Weight gain, depression, bulimia, and fibromyalgia followed for decades. Now I follow intermittent fasting, eat whole foods and limited starches. At 69, I feel better than I did at 19. Food can be medicine or poison. Thank you for this chat!
Try having a few dates washed or black raisins or dry cranberrys, & natural pure palm or cane mollasses with or after meals, etc. for better absorption of all nutrients & a 😂 sweet fulfilled after or better with meals. Soaked or simmered oatmeal with a drop of molass Or honey. I also take alot of fresh tender ginger ; & some mother vinegar & fresh lemon juices twice a day. I saw Jessie discussing this on the Diary of a CEO podcast and thought, 'No way can eating veggies first make that much difference'. Well, I'm wearing a continuous glucose monitor and am astonished at the results. I've only been doing this for 2 days, but the impact has been immediate. I've gone from peaking my postprandial glucose levels at over 20 mmol/L to my highest peak being 10.4 mmol/L, and that was after having a jacket potato - I decided to really test this with something that would typically cause me to spike very high. I also added a few small gherkins to my veggies to replace drinking vinegar in water. I can barely believe what I see in the readings, but I can feel the difference, so I know it's true. Why doesn't the NHS let all the diabetics know about this?

@@annonimbouz851 Yes, I ate watercress, rocket, spinach, sauerkraut, coleslaw, micro greens and a few small gherkins. After eating most of that, I ate a couple of Beyond burgers with asparagus and once I'd eaten most of that, I had a jacket potato with vegan butter. I still left some veggies and burger to eat with the potato, but I didn't wait at all once I'd started eating.

A few days ago I didn't know Jessie. I'm obese and 3 weeks ago I decided "that's enough, I don't feel good anymore, this has to change!". So I went on the web and watched and listened to various experts but I was not satisfied. I'm scientifically educated but I knew nothing about biochemistry or metabolic mechanisms. At that time I had already suppressed all junk food from my diet (1.5 liter of Ice Tea and 4 or 5 sugar cubes in my coffee per day, pasta, rice and potatoes - fried most of the time - as my staple diet) and to make good measure I had introduced more fibers to my diet by eating green vegetables and berries. After 3 days my blood pressure went from 140/90 under medication to 125/85 so I decided to stop the medication. My blood pressure has remained there, sometimes even lower. My ankles and legs that were extremely swollen, all of a sudden had deflated completely. My chronic heartburn of 20 years+ also disappeared and I don't take anymore my 40mg/day of pantoprazole. Then I discovered Dr Lustig. He instantly became one of my gurus, confirming through his scientific lectures what I probably felt intuitively. Somehow he made me understand that I was probably not only obese but on my way to T2 diabetes and NAFLD, which reinforced my determination though shifting my focus from weight loss to avoidance of metabolic diseases. But I had the feeling that something was still missing, so I started research on how digestion works. Then literally 2 days ago I tumbled on Jessie. Immediately she became extremely inspiring to me: maths studies, biochemistry, investigations into unfamiliar territories and vulgarization. In addition she's French - like me - and very charismatic. I won't research any further as I feel through a few channels like yours and Dr Lustig and Jessie I now have all the information I need to change my life once and for all. Weight loss starts showing (3kg in 3 weeks), my determination is ironclad thanks to you all!

Little did I believe in my 76 years, I would say advice could be life-changing - least of all a podcast. This one is! Well done.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Both of you are an inspiration. I am a 72 year young Native American Elder. As a grand and great grandmother I am always looking for ways to share our traditions with the next generation and work diligently at tying to bring in as much science as I can to prove how and why these ancient wisdom's still work today! For generations we never had so many emotional illnesses, because we ate the food we honored, as we took it naturally/freshly from the land.
My travels to Japan have shown me how the pickled veggies served as appetizers (bringing in the acids of the vinegar) and the abundance of veggies served prior to the raw fish or other high protein entree', followed by a fruity sweet treat or a very tiny portion of sherbet has helped them stay so fit for life. There is very little obesity, diabetes, or short life expectancy.
I see how the Eskimo folks of the far north tribes stay healthy and fit by eating the best natural, seasonal foods with no processed foods or artificial sugars. It only makes sense that it is time for the world to get away from the crazy processed food chain and reach for more normal blood glucose levels, through your wise and easy to follow recommendations.
There is even a chance the world could find a more spiritual way to be, if folks were not hopped up (ADHD etc) on glucose spikes! Best wishes for ever!

I started intermittent fasting in 2019 and kept doing it till late 2022 - and during 2022 I was gaining weight. I gave up trying to lose weight and tried eating normally - which is more or less healthy because I cook most of my meals. But I noticed I started snacking more and drinking sweet stuff like soda and juice more. I gained some more weight and I wasn't too happy with my eating habits. Then I stumbled on Jessie's interview - I think it was on the Diary of a CEO - and it was so interesting I wanted to try right away. Well, I reintroduced intermittent fasting AND using Jessie's hacks for stabilizing glucose levels. I don't measure my glucose, but I feel fantastic. I hardly want anything sweet. I can easily skip a meal and not feel any lack of energy. And I started losing weight. Actually, when I think of it, my favorite foods are fiber, protein and fat. I love salads, meat, beans, eggs - and I'm not really a fan of bread and pasta. I love that I can eat 2 times a day and not feel hungry or dying from a rapid glucose fall. I love food but I hate thinking about it many times a day and having to throw something in the furnace to keep going.

Even when my partner stocked up our house with a bunch of snacks which I usually can’t help but eat quickly, I haven’t even touched one and I don’t even want to. Microwaves happened therefore ready meals happened, take aways happened and women working long hours happened so that they were too tired to cook from scratch at 7 maybe 8 at night. Those things still stand. Overcoming them, overcoming the temptations is the hard part. I'm retired now and was brought up with cooking from scratch and I've gone back to it but often, I batch cook so that, if I'm tired, I don't have to. There's nothing like cooking fresh veg on top of the stove though. It tastes so good, I love it. I also love these videos, so helpful. My cholesterol has gone down from 6.9 to 5.5 and I hope it's still dropping.

When Jessie spoke of feeling different after her accident and surgery, I could relate. Everything changed for me after a scoliosis surgery at 11 years old. My whole system changed developing allergies, asthma, eczema, and by 22 was on my way to full blown Crohn's disease that nearly killed me.
One of the things my body was speaking to me about was unattended trauma that peaked with the initial surgery. I believe food habits (cravings) can easily be another way the body is trying to get my mind's attention. eat the food have the symptoms figure out the puzzle.
The kicker is, how long has western culture insisted that the body is just a machine; a bag of parts to be manipulated into what we want, to be subdued when acting out?
It took me decades to see that there is a language of body being missed, and that break is the main cause of continued unnecessary suffering.

Im surprised no1 has done a study on how eating sugar can cause worsened cravings in drug addiction. Im a recovered Hetoin addict. An once i got my diet better i noticed i stopped thibking about using drugs. An when i slipped with carbs, i would notice if started to get cravings for drugs back. I swear there should ABSOLUTELY DO A STUDY ON THIS!
I had the same experience with THC, I know not the same level has heroin, but eating sugar made me want THC more and also have more agressif, violent behaviors/reactions, thank you for writing this and validation my observations with sugar

There is research that shows people with severe mental illness who are on behavioral health meds will often crave lots of candy and soda... In particular Mt Dew and the sour candies. These are linked to the deficiencies these meds can cause on our nutrition. Ex. Craving sour candies usually indicates low vitamin K. Vitamin K increases appetite. Older people with severe malnutrition are often given vitamin K to improve their appetite. It's all connected.

While working with five year olds in a program at the YMCA, there was one sweet little guy who would occasionally get crazy and once tried to bite me during a fit. Talking with his mother, I asked if she'd noticed patterns of such behavior connected with sugary foods for breakfast. As she thought about it, I saw her see the light as she nodded yes, he'd had toaster waffles with syrup that morning. It's so important for everyone to learn about this!

I've just thought back to my most recent worst anxiety attacks and they've all happened after a period of eating a lot of chocolates such as Christmas and birthdays. If Jessie's work is accurate, then this could literally change my life.
When you’re having a bad time, chocolate can be a goto comfort. If that is the case, denying yourself chocolate maybe denying yourself comfort.
For my weight loss, one trick I used was to still have desert. But limit myself to one forkful. Or one chocolate. But to savour it. To make it last the same length of time as when I normally ate it. I still got the same amount of pleasure. But way less calories. Way less sugar/fat spike.

I often find that sometimes, ill try to smoke right before work so i feel less anxious and more "energized" but ironically i usually feel a little more tired afterwards even though im calmer. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic 7 years and managed to get my blood sugar under the diabetic threshold by changing my diet. But I am still suspicious I have glucose spikes that makes my neuropathy worse. i have necer been able dient in the past but with eating vegetables first I ate less sugar and carbs I was. I really could reduce the sugar spike eventually. I earlier used to feel damn sleepy after eating anything but now I feel very energetic.
I am 31 years and have never felt so good after a meal even when I was younger.
I have improved my sleep as well.
I also believe in algorithmic way of doing things. I completely believe that you have to hit the right tone to achieve anything.
It's just about the technique. With the right technique we can move mountains.

I am a very healthy 80yr old, take no medication of any kind. Walk a big dog 3X a day for a total of 2 hrs. I sleep well, all night and if I can find time I have an afternoon nap. I eat the way my grandmother ate. Freshly cooked food, based on protein, cooked in animal fat, no oil and dessert only on Sunday. Nothing from a tin, a box or a packet and sugar rarely. Modern, non food does not have a place in my life.

She’s saying it’s not too hard because it’s the same food, but I actually like how the food tastes together and how the taste of the vegetables complement the meat taste when I eat. So the pleasure of eating is immensely reduced when I eat food in a certain order. Unfortunately. I haven’t read her book so maybe if I do, there’s a way to go around this…
Several decades ago my father had a book called Living 2x50 years… and it suggested drinking vinegar before meals. My father died age 96, 12 years ago
In my culture (Black Americans) have always used vinegar as an accent to food to enhance flavor & routine practice to make a vinegar pepper dressing to add to veggies or whatever you're eating.

Growing up every meal had a salad first. Restaurants always had a salad with your meal and then it changed because of inflation and they started to charge extra for a dinner salad. Now salads are barely on the menu, if it all. So it all comes back around again. Now we know why starting with a salad is important.

What veggies do good in a vinegar soak?
My son has Type 1 diabetes and wears a CGM. I am going to implement some of these hacks with him to see if might make a difference. I have found oats to be a terrible breakfast for him. We usually have bacon and eggs for breakfast. The days he has porridge his blood sugars are all over the place! We also have found the days he is very active his bg levels are much more stable. It is much much harder to control bg levels in type 1. Even a piece of whole fruit will spike his blood sugar way up. It is extremely difficult to live with. I am going to try introducing salad with ACV before each meal! I love making ACV in the summer and autumn. I have ordered Jessie's book!
I eat oat porridge made out of the cut in half oat grans, I never use flakes. Also, eat it as a last part of my breakfast, a sort of dessert (because there is a fresh berry in it). Also, it is very tasty when it is salty and not sweet - I like it with a bit of cheese grated on top. Oat flakes are quite bad, even a jumbo one.
I’ve heard her suggest pairing fruit with fats/protein (e.g. Greek yoghurt, on top of chia pudding, , after eating nuts, etc). Fruit does contain fibre which helps decrease the glucose spike but it is still high in sugar so adding the protein/fats should help reduce the spike

Are you take Levothyroxine/synthroid the synthetic pill or NDT Natural Dessicated Thyroid. I did terrible on synthetic hormone replacement for my hashimotos but excellent results on natural dessicated thyroid

Thank you that order of food has really helped. When I listened I decided to try. On Saturday we eat chips, meat and salad and I’d eat in that order and later I’d feel bloated and I’d feel like the salad was not digested.
Then I listened to you and did your order and the last 2 Saturdays I’ve really enjoyed my meal. No more bloating and burping 😅. Thanks

I tried the vinegar with a small salad before meals yesterday and ended up with the worst heartburn and then remembered why I’ve always avoided vinegar anything. I will use the fiber first tip though and try again with fresh lemon or lime. I’ve always naturally saved my carbs for last.
Try a simple vinaigrette on your salad instead: olive oil, vinegar, Dijon if you like, S&P. You could reduce the vinegar content. Will that work if it's combined with olive oil?
@@ygibb7012 love homemade vinaigrette and really wish I could but no, I’ll have to stick to fresh citrus for the acid. I did mix with avocado and a little evoo but it must be something about vinegar, probably the fermentation. I’m fine with small amounts of other fermented foods, weird.
@@marcelladiaz3187 vinegar is a no-go for me, as well. Not because of heartburn but because irritates my throat. I switched to fresh lemon juice on my salads and I much prefer it; it tastes clean in a way.
?what kind of vinegar is being used have you tried the one wiþh mother especially Braggs òrhanic it may work I use organic lemon as an alternative spring. Or alkaline water.
@@valarielacasse803 I’ve tried ACV with the mother as well as the less acidic vinegars like white wine and rice vinegars, no go. If I could have vinegars , my favorite tasting is a good red wine vinegar, actually don’t like the smell or taste of ACV even with the mother. Fresh citrus is really the best replacement for acid in a recipe.
I’m going to buy both of her books. I hope there’s an audio version of them, but if not, I will have to buy the physical written book.😅 I am listening to several authors on eat to beat disease that author and many others as well, and I’m incorporating all of it into my daily routine. I take this very seriously because I am 62 years old and want to reverse the age of my organs inside and live as healthy as I can, until the end of my physical body. In Mediterranean countries, like Portugal where my family is from, we always start a meal with a vegetable soups. In the summer we start with a salad. Followed by lean meat, but mostly grilled fish. It certainly gives the brain time to realize you have eaten and feel satiated. But now I know it is also preparing the stomach for digestion.

When she describes not eating naked carbs it reminds me of the Zone diet from the 90's, based on the principle of balance. I remember weighing the carbs to protein ratio for every meal and agonizing over the choices to create that balance for my blood sugar. My daughter has a type 1 diabetes and wears Dexcom
Anytime she gets sad or upset her sugar spikes (no food involved) and also whenever her sugar is too high after certain foods she gets moody and develops an attitude.
Also I’ve noticed if she loads up on good protein and then eats carbs it doesn’t hit her blood sugar levels as much and keeps her blood glucose stable

Ikaria island in Greece, a place characterized as a blue zone. They're 105 and 108 years old, respectively, no health problems, perfect memory, don't wear eye glasses, no mobility issues. They basically eat meat (especially lamb), indigenous fruits, greek honey, yogurt, eggs, olive oil, tomatoes and some vegetable but not too much, drink coffee, a little bit of red wine occasionally. They wake up early in the morning, go to sleep around 22: 00 and they never eat after 19: 00. They also walk a lot.
Hey guys! Just wanted to do a two week up-date, first i have endo and PCOS. It hasnt been that long so i cant say for sure what the future will look like, keep this in mind, when doing this but my results so far have been promising. Im not hungry during the day, i dont need to eat as much. I feel my mood is more stable. The most impressive thing has been a massive reduction in bloat and weight, so - 10kg in two weeks, now idk if thats just water weight and bloat we will see. I havent seen an improvement in my pcos and endo symptoms ex. Cramps and pain however this will probably take longer to see any ways! The important thing is i feel great and, i think anyone can do this!! Ps. I dont do the vinegar drink i cant, but i have pickles, cucumbers and beets.

When I first heard Dr. Jessie saying to eat vegetables first, I just tried it to see what would happen. I drank a smoothie with good for you nutrients. After a little while I realized that I hadn’t felt a sugar spike like I would had I eaten carbs first. I will admit that I don’t prefer to eat vegetables first, but, I am amazed how different I feel when I do eat vegetables first. People have asked me how I suddenly got healthier. I tell them I eat my vegetables first. I dropped about 20 pounds pretty fast. Right now I’m not trying to lose weight. However, if I can lose more weight and stay healthy, I would consider it. 🎉😂🎊. I’m 77 years young. 💞🙏💞

in French schools for meals there is always first a starter as some sort of veggie, then the meal which is some meat and potatoes or rice, past and then finish by a dessert. In many countries you eat first a soup or a salad before eating your meat. On another hand, in Poland where I live the savoy breakfast is something standard :)

I had fallen into very bad habits with food. Too much starch. Too many calories. And then: trying to relive the joyous sweet foods of my youth. Way too much.
Cooked brain. Bad skin. Terrible sleep.
I corrected my diet. But still felt bad. My skin got better. My weight got better.
I got tested eventually. Way too high blood sugar.
A year on, my brain cloud is gone, my sleep is better. But I wonder if I cooked myself too long... because my blood sugar is still too high.
I hope the veggies first hack works.
Oh: and my own hack is simple: if you want chocolate or sweets: take very little. But savour it. Savour it as long as you normally would take to consume a whole portion. This gives you the full pleasure without the full sugar and fat.
People may be reluctant to try a new "program" because they have heard so much conflicting advice through the years. This one makes sense. I think I'll try it!

I just want to give a shout out that it’s also all the hidden sugars in beverages, and condiments (high fructose corn syrup, natural flavors) that is so critical to feeling well. Best way to feel better is intermittent fasting, clean water, clean protein and veggies. No sauces! No beverages except water! Do this for a week and see how you feel…
And get moving! If you don’t want to exercise, volunteer to help others. The latest science on saunas is interesting…
