    I like how Jessie doesn't demonise any food groups like carbs or dairy - you're free to eat whatever you choose (obviously within reasonable amounts and as part of a wholefood diet) - as long as you manage to keep your glucose levels steady using the suggestions in her book. I wore a glucose monitor for two weeks and saw with my own eyes how my blood sugar reacted to certain foods in certain conditions. By far the best result came from going for a brisk walk soon after eating - I try to do that twice a day now - it practically eliminates the glucose spikes from even high carb/starchy meals! Using the hacks in the book, you don't need to eliminate carbs (or even sugar!) - you just have to know when and how to consume them!

      @@bringthemesstvou are right. Nothing will completely get rid of the disease because damage has already been done to your body. Insulin resistance is not something that will ever go away but yes there are ways to eat and exercise so you can control your glucose levels better. Until we have better technology to be able to measure our insulin levels at home at the very least we have glucose meters at home and A1C lab tests to help guide us.

      @@bringthemesstvwe can't measure insulin with a continuous insulin meter.
      All they can do is do a glucose tolerance test every year and see if 80% of biomarkers get better.
      I'd rather do keto because I know it works. Today I didn't say no to 2 mini danishes but I also had a long day at work running around all day trying to get stuff done. I've been dropping a pound or 2 a day lately, but over the last 4 months in down 44 pounds. I'm down weight since I went to work and then at night I usually drop another pound. I dunno we'll see what happens.
      Mom got me a B12 chromium weightloss supplement with a bunch of herbs and spices. Seemed fine so I started taking it. If I can drop from 211 to 199 in August I'll tell her I think it helped cause I stalled at 211 binged, trying to build up weightloss speed to break down the barrier again.
      Seems to work doing that. Seems to break the set point.

    I am literally going through this right now. I decided my pancreas is tired of making insulin, and I have proactively given up sugar. For real... I look at the ingredients of everything I eat and if it contains sugar, it goes on the no list. For some things, if I look long enough I can find a version that does not contain sugar (or seed oil... etc). I have been working on this for just a month and I already see an improvement in my performance... meaning I am more able to accomplish anything I am trying to accomplish. I attribute this to not being tired from sugar consumption.

However, incorporating a healthy sugar-free and grain-free protein powder, greens and some fats such as nut butter and chia seeds could help the absorption of your smoothie in a better way if you don’t wanna have the greens and protein separately before the fruit smoothie! I find kombucha is amazing for reducing cravings and giving you a very pronounced coffee-like energy boost - yet with very minimal caffeine. Just don’t drink it in the evening.

    Flattening the glucose spikes doesn't solve the problem. The carbohydrates still elevate glucose above a baseline just for a longer period of time. The carbohydrates drive insulin and obesity and these "tricks" just slow the absorption.

    Great. I'm prediabetic. I did not see that coming. I can't decide if getting a monitor was a good thing or a bad thing. I'm skinny. I've been IF for five years. Guess I took that as an excuse to eat terribly. Well, I did, actually. I appreciate the heads up, disturbing as it is. I never had a craving in my life, either. Funny old world.

    I eat once or twice per day. The first thing I eat is oatmeal with dates and peanut butter or yoghurt. I eat this after fasting and after working out fasted. Is this bad?

      She says oatmeal isn’t good - it’s very high carbs and cause glucose spikes, also oat milk is like drinking starch juice … I have now changed my milk to coconut milk or almond milk

    • @wistfulsighs7791
      @wistfulsighs7791 9 місяців тому

      I thought the peanut butter might reduce the spike or allow it to be more gradual and that being that my muscles would be hungry after working out fasted, the glycogen would go into my muscles instead of being carried around in my blood causing inflammation. This whole carbs are bad or unnecessary thing, doesn't quite seem right. I suspect that it only applies in nations where people are over feeding themselves. In one of the blue zones, the population eats a lot of white rice. Also, I went on very low carb for a long period of time and I think it over sensitized me to insulin in that after I re introduced carbs I'd get heart palpitations. I am a bit sick of hearing this carbs are a not so good thing. But thank you so much for responding. And I agree about the oat milk thing. I do coconut, almond and cashew milk myself. I value people's experience over what the experts say. So thank you again, for your response. @@Bluebell117

      @@Bluebell117yes, oatmeal is carbs, however the net carbs of oats are significantly lowered due to the fiber content in it. That should be accounted for. All that to say, add some protein and fats to your oatmeal, such as yoghurt and chia seeds to possibly decrease the possible insulin spike that may be associated with it! And have a veggie starter!

      It naturally happens to everyone due to cortisol levels, but as a non diabetic, your pancreas secretes insulin to regulate that. As a diabetic, it is either due to a dawn phenomenon effect needing a med adjustment or it could be from what you ate the evening prior basically.

One thing that I did was take her apple cider vinegar recommendation before I broke my fast and I have a feeling that’s what triggered the majority of my completely liquid insane bowel movement and insane cramping leading up to said diarrhea.. so this is just a warning to those who are beginning to experiment with all of this like me.

    Nothing earth shattering was revealed in this interview. Most of what she said is already known. And she is preaching to the crowd without addressing gut issues. Most people get insulin resistance because their gut is messed up, which results in leaky gut and the result of that is inflammatory conditions such as hypothyroidism and diabetes. So we can't fix anything without fixing the gut first and foremost
