I'm 43 and Dr Mindy is exactly right. My low carb lifestyle no longer worked at all!!! I've been fasting the way she guides us to and doing keto. The weight finally shifted and I feel great!! Thank you Dr Mindy
I'm 45 and for the last few months learning more about IF and also incorporating keto. I lost 5lbs, but I need to get better at incorporating what works for my hormones
Dr Mindy is not correct when saying insuline resistance iss making the body store fat. I see 80 percent of people are storing plenty of fat from high glucose from starches and high processed wheat and sugar
@@sarahmoffett1296, keep it up, I was shocked to find out that Dr. Windy was usually right on target when you actually follow exactly what she says. If something she says hasn’t worked for you, please reconsider what you did wrong. I’m working on a 24 hour fast right now. Just the thought was enough to make me feel like giving up. Right now, I’m considering making it a 36 hour fast. That is the longest time I’ve ever done. 🙃. Will I want to consider doing a 72 hour fast? Don’t know. However, if I’m feeling good, I may just see how long I can maintain that pace. I would really love to be successful with it! 🥰
@@Changeworld408. They are attached at the hip! Lol! The carbs set up the insulin resistance ! You are both basically saying the same thing…. as I understand it. 😅
I ate at 11:00 am fasted all day to 11:00 am again exercised 1hour every day.i did this for 3 months ,i lost 60lbs went from a size 20 to a size 2 ,22 inch waist size.i know it works but its hard to maintain. I stayed fit for about 11yrs, i only fasted 1 day a week, I'm getting back to this lifestyle change, and feeling better.i love listening to this Doctor's podcast.
I've noticed that Dr. Chatterjee often asks his guests about how whatever topic they're discussing might be different for women, or for post-menopausal women. The guest is usually male, and they usually scratch their head and don't have much to say to answer that question. I don't say this to criticize these guests---it's simply a reflection of the lack of research and knowledge out there. This episode has been the antidote to that lack. I appreciate Dr. Chatterjee always remembering women in his discussions, even if the guests often don't have a good answer, at least the subject was broached. And I deeply appreciate this whole episode, it's like the missing piece that's allowing me to take the knowledge gained from those other guests and apply it in a more customized way that works for me (a 40-something woman).
Hopefully Dr. Chatterjee questioning those guests about women plants a seed for them . . . “Why don’t I know how women might be affected differently? I should look into that?” One can hope.
I m a critical care nurse for 15 years & it has done wonders for me & my gut health when I started fasting on my 12 hour night shifts. I find I am less lethargic & tired, more alert. Now I have come across Dr. Pelz, my mind has blown & learing so much on women’s health & fasting where there is lack of.
I’m in the same field working 3-4nights 12-13hr shifts ON then OFF. which must be hard on our body when we go from nights off to nights on and re-set our body and our body is in chronic stressed all 12+hrs 😭I wonder if this red light therapy will work for us when we go to bed in the morning and wake up at 3-4pm to get ready for work. How are you doing the IF going back and forth on work schedule ? I wonder if Dr Mindy can help us with Nursing topics
Wow you should try a real fast then because it will be much more beneficial. A twelve hour period of not eating is nothing really so if that made a difference just imagine what an actual legitimate Fast would do. 3 days is my thing and I can operate even better when tasked because after the first 30 hours my energy goes sky high.
I work on nights and do 12 and a half hours. I found this podcast to ensightful. I think fasting on my night shifts sounds a good idea. I will give.this try.
I too am an evening and night shift nurse. I wish there was more information for people who do shift work and can’t wake up with the sun or eat at normal hours because the work they do. If anyone has any suggestions please share.
@@loriegosnell9355as a nurse, when you work a 12 night shift … you still have to SLEEP. So this nurse above is fasting greater than 12 hours. Either before she starts her shift or after she gets her sleep. Also 12 hours is better than no hours! Your body is normally stressed working at night and being already to care for very ill patients. It’s very easy to eat terribly working nights
I thought fasting wasn't for me because I had a bad experience but when I listened to Mindy, what she said made so much sense that I tried it her way, following my cycle, which I still have at 53, it is working! I am so excited to be finally losing weight after 30 plus years of nothing.
I always thought women fasting while on their cycle would be a bad idea and will cause you not to have a cycle. Your body needs nourishment during cycle so I don’t understand the fast on day 1 of your period logic. I’m under my boyfriend’s username btw.
@@Thaddeus-ml8if that's only if you starve yourself for an extended time. Intermittent fasting for 12-15 hours is really 'nothing'. Your body can go 5+ days without food easily!
@@melvaughn29 I have lost my periods doing 16:8 before. Fasting for women is different and can cause some to loose their cycle if they fast without considering where they are in the cycle.
@@10317 Like I said 10317 LOL... get over myself? I'm not the one being a feminist pushing the term "Patriarchy"...I for one am a man that understands the importance of a family unit and how valuable it is for the youth growing up with a solid foundation so it's not about myself it's about others...men AND women sharing roles of their bond so I believe it's Mindy who needs to get over herself and her activist ways, she was obviously brainwashed in school and it has stuck with her ever since! So get lost if you can't handle the truth about this feminist! What would be nice is if she would step back and realize that BOTH men and women have their shortfalls and own problems to deal with, it's not just women
@@shawnlewis1918have you watched her videos on her own channel? She makes great points on how women with and without a menstrual cycle can benefit from modifying their diet. And it's true, how in most studies, the subjects are mostly, if not all, men. Being a feminist is about equality, not one sex dominating another.
@@kendallstark4302 Maybe you didn't comprehend my statement....I don't really give a sh*t listening to anyone who pushes the term Patriarchy...it's an activist and feminist term tearing down the family unit, put aside her knowledge, that's great and all but if a terrorist has great knowledge about something, do you support listening to that person regardless of their destructive beliefs that are an ideology??? And I'm not comparing her to a terrorist, I'm just trying to be clear here on what she believes internally is a toxic ideology that Patriarchy is a diseased system when it was the foundation of a well developed civilization and why we are where we are today...it's pure feminism to push what has been our natural way of developing into a toxic Patriarchy when it was a system that benefited BOTH men and women but now those ideologies are tearing down our foundation. Yes I agree we have some skid marks on our history like ALL nations do at some point and many STILL do today but we eventually rectified them like women not being able to vote a century ago, of course that was silly and it was corrected over time. You can't be this naive but because you are a women, you don't pick up on this behavior like I do, most people like this are very subtle in the messaging but it became clear halfway through the interview, she is a feminist, I don't tolerate feminism just like I don't tolerate male chauvinism!
I am 86 years old since COVID I have been IF mad 2o-21 hours a day. It is the best thing I could have done for myself and wasn’t hungry or lacking energy. Thankfully I am never nervous or up tight.
After nearly 50 years of calorie counting, in which the weight loss always went back on, I tried fasting. It was a lot easier than you can imagine. I did one meal a day (OMAD). The first three days well hell!!! Then it became the new normal. At 63 I am now the weight I was at age 30 having lost 50lbs, and the weight has stayed off. I now eat 2 meals a day; first at 2-3pm and a snack a couple of hours later. I am never hungry. I put this down to avoiding refined carbs, sugar and processed food. I never have breakfast as it is the least important meal of the day; avoiding it invigorates your body to hunt. Avoiding carbs means that the fat burning switch stays on!! If you have ANY body fat, you have no need of ANY food, as long as you are adapted to ft burn. All the rest is cake dressing; pills potions, suppliments - none make you lose weight, only your body can do that.
Eating too much in one sitting causes blood glucose to rise. Since I’m a type one diabetic with a Dexcom G7 I can watch my glucose 24/7. One hamburger patty OR 2cups of a veg salad & I am full. There’s no way I’m doing one or two meals a day. I eat zero sugar very few carbs but I do eat a little bit throughout the to match my long acting insulin. This one or two meals a day isn’t for everybody. I would starve and be malnutrition. Glad it’s working for you.
So Im 66 this year, was always fit but had to watch my weight. Got kidney stones and gall stones, had surgery to remove blockage of bile duct and another blockage from kidney to bladder. I have not been able to get the weight off since. Fasting, keto did not work. I lost almost 10 lbs at one point but put it back on in 5 weeks while on vac. What I am curious about is the flappy arm skin when you loose and for some older women the thigh skin and back. How to loose without this flappy skin!!
This podcast! Thank you. I am a 44yr old female that was diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer at 36. Went through chemo, double mastectomy and then took hormone-blocking medication for 5yrs, then made the decision to have my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. It feels like everything is working against me and the belly fat struggle is real! Tossing and turning at night is my life also. Thank you for all of your help ❤
The title here makes so much more sense! I listened to this as a Poscast and it was titled as Menopause: How to burn fat and live in harmony with your Hormones yet 80% of the episode was about PERIODS which really annoyed me because I though this was about menopause. It felt like a slap in the face…
I love this. I just feel I'm unable to achieve anything I used to do anymore! I was so fit right up until my mid 40's now I've ground to a halt, stacked on the weight and literally a shell of my former self. .....full time working teacher, single parent of two teens, chronic stress long term effects.
This is exactly what I’m going through. I couldn’t pull myself out of this dark hole because I didn’t understand what was going on. My doctor just shoved me on anti-depressants, this made things much worse as they came with horrible side effects, I weaned myself off them after a year and had a year of terrible withdrawals, brain zaps! I’m starting to think that most doctors have no bloody clue and will never rely on them for any chronic symptoms. We have to manage our own health and take control. I started IF a week ago and already losing weight and looking/ feeling better, all body inflammation disappeared, unbelievable asI have been referred to a hand surgeon for a thumb joint issue that doc said was arthritic, it’s 80% cleared in less than a week! Taking out carbs and sugar was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but the benefits are undeniable. I’ve lost 1KG so far which is a bit disappointing, I was hoping to lose a lot more but I remember to be patient and consistent. Good luck with your journey. I’m 50 yrs and got my first hot flush 4 months ago, I thought that was the start of perimenopause, but now I understand that I’ve been perimenopausal for at least 5 years! 😂
I'm not sure where you got that from. She said eat late lunch and dinner in the summer and then a heavier lunch and a light dinner during summer. Where I live it's dark at 4 PM in winter, the idea was to not have heavy meals when it's dark outside, would you consider 4 PM as being late? Also she doesn't say get some sunlight, she says get sunlight in the morning to sync your body to the circadian cycle. And I have not heard her say to exercise in the morning, can you share the timestamp for that?
Her book helps sooo much I’m post menopausal and 36 hour fasts 12 hour eating intervals I’m about to try tomo for a month I’ll keep you posted but I think my weight will go down a lot❤️
This was absolutely amazing!!!! Just hitting the 40s and this has helped tremendously!!! I literally I’m trying to figure out what’s going on with my body. And this has answered my question. Thank you Dr Mindy!!!
Thanks to Dr. Mindy Pelz I’m on this lifestyle of intermittent fasting!! super important to do it with my cycle!! It took me 6 months to lose 25 pounds!! I never had to lose so much weight until now in my 40’s!! Our hormones definitely dictate!
I’m so grateful for this as a woman with pcos and having gained weight in My mid 40s about to be 50 and can’t lose belly fat and weight horrendous moods during week before period !
I CAN’T “get up at sunrise.” I’m a nurse. In the winter, I go to work in the dark and go home in the dark. And I HATE winter-I stay in a funk ti the daffodils bloom.
Is there any way you can go to sleep close enough to a window that you could have the sunrise light shine on you even if you’re sleeping? I have a window that I have made it allow the sunrise light to come in to the room when I’m sleeping. It has worked out great for me. Hopefully, I have been able to help you in some way.❤
I have a full spectrum light next to my bed that goes on every morning 15 min before I need to get up. I can program it for a different time for every day if I needed to. It also offers sounds but I don't use them in the AM, I use them in the PM with the "dusk" function to wind down before bed. I set it one and don't need to touch it until DST. It was around $55 on Amazon and is a no-name Chinese brand. I also bought one of the brand name ones for my office plants and it doesn't have any of those functions and cost more. I plugged it into a timer and that didn't work bc you need to hit the button to turn it on, so I turn it on myself every morning when I arrive to work. The first option isn't a *completely* gradual light transition and has brighter steps from very low light to very bright. It's not noticable AT ALL unless I'm staring at it, so if you look into this, don't necessarily believe the hype that you need a "naturally transitioning increase" (or decrease) in the light function. The 1st light helps me A LOT with the painful fall slam into darkness, and I'm in a place that has any 1/3+ days of the year without full sun. [Actually, i just googled that and it's worse- avg 165 sunny days/yr.😩] I also get the dog outside in the cold first thing out of bed and that helps with my grog. Hope that's helpful nurses & teachers!
Not going to lie, trying to rest in last 10 days of cycle is difficult! But I have to enjoy the rest and minimise the negative talk i have of myself during this time
This is because we were "taught" we are EQUAL!!! So much so we are busy building careers and being masculine that we have forgotten that we are DIFFERENT! We forgot the last part...Equal BUT Different. The plumbing is not the same. Thank you Mindy for reminding ladies about all the things that we forgot!
I am stunned! I listened to this video, then went through my planner to see what my days looked like during my last two cycles. I made BIG plans and had BIG ideas in the manifestation stage. I was more tired and lightened my list of things to do the week before my period, even canceled my workouts. I was much more energetic and efficient in my work, with a more pleasant attitude, during the first week of my cycle. So just from my own calendar, I can see an amazing rhythm that I've never known before! I am going to label the days of my planner with this information and continue to test this out. My husband is a future planner, massively into wanting to know what we will be doing two and three weeks from now. Drives me crazy because I won't know how I will feel then. But maybe now I can! I can schedule big projects and trips for certain times of the month, and stay close to home, and have more relaxing time when I need it. So much to think about! Personal note: I am 49, suffer from insulin resistance and PCOS, and struggling to lose weight. I will use this information to change my workout schedule, too!
Love a woman that is going through menopause they are the ones that understand what the body goes through. Love her for trying to explain to both men and women this subject was hidden from many of us and now we struggle to understand.
Thank you Dr Mindy . At 66 I will be advising younger women to listen. Thank you Dr Chatterjee for all your podcasts. It is so heartening to listen to the people you interview. I love the way they and you share information to help us all. 🙏👍😊
I tried to take fasting seriously during my cycle. This month I’m doing really well. I’m approaching 40 and trying to figure this out before perimenopause starts. Thank you for all of the info. Fasting has made me feel soooo much better overall!
This is such an important conversation. I would like to see more discussions on Women’s health, especially regarding menopause and connected sleep issues. Thank you for a great podcast.
I have a food garden. So I’m going there everyday after breakfast and walking my dogs and mostly I’m there for 3 hours. I always feel so good after. And when I’m back I walk my dogs again. I’m trying to listen to my body and watch what I eat. I don’t eat processed foods anymore. No sugar. No bread.I cook fresh meals I’m so enjoying it. I’m loosing weight like 500 grams a week. I sleep great. Less stressed. I’m 48. When I changed my foods, i don’t have extreme back pain and stomach pain when I get my period. I was like shit I think I’m having my period. Normally I know because off the back and stomach pain. I love the way I feel now.
Loved this podcast! Love Dr Mindy I can hear the passion in her to help women . I’m 70 and have applied many of her techniques. I just wish that there was a Dr Mindy to help in my earlier years. I’m just so thankful for all you do.
THE DYNAMICS IN THIS DISCUSSION WERE ABSOLUTE GENIUS AND THE PRESENTATION OF THE DISCUSSION WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! Thank you both for this content…well over due, direly needed and sooooooo empowering to those open to receive the ways and tools to make change while understanding and accepting that change is inevitable!
I have never struggled with weight and just being sensible for a week or so after a holiday has always worked to shift the holiday binge weight- until it didn't! It all changed when I hit 45 n everything which worked before didn't. I started fasting in the first half of my cycle and hey presto, ut is working. Thank you Dr Mindy Ps- I'm a 47 year old woman
YES we need to research more women. I’m in perimenopause and have been for two years. I’m not on any medications due to insurance and having cancer previously. It has destroyed my marriage due to ZERO libido. 😢 my sleep is horrible, I’ve gained 75lbs and I’m completely miserable. I started the 18:6 IF my protein intake is 110 grams and keep my carbs and calories in my window as well. I drink 120oz of water a day as well it seems to be helping tremendously. I just purchased a home gym and starting my strength training. I work a physical job M-F 7am - 3:30pm and I work out at 5am to 5:30am and will be starting my weight training in the evening. I’m 46 and 5’11 and 245lbs 😢 my goal is to get back to 175lbs and gain muscle. I have polycystic ovary syndrome as well
I love the way Dr Pelz listens so well. Both of them respond in such a considered way, and it shows in the quality of the conversation. Really useful output.
I'm 68, when I was 40 through 53 I did major strength training, and ate less fat and stayed at 13% body fat. When I stopped I I gained, of course. Last year I watched Mindy, I fasted twice, and started intermittent, switched to more fat, no processed, no sugar, or ultra processed, for autophagy, although I went from 147 to 115 in 9 months. I had not weighed in a yr. don't like it..I was concerned although as I thought about it, that was the weight I always hovered. Of course at 68, no matter how much yoga, palates or squats, and sprints I do, the loose skin is YIKES. It's not horrible, although I see it. Yes the air squats, and walking after a meal works. I don't like someone shoving more, and more longer fasting constantly. I have never eaten healthier, and I do eat fruit. Going to Doctor tomorrow after a year, and see what's happening inside.
That's amazing! In July I started trying to live a healthier life and I'm still learning about things to do to live my best healthest life! Thanks for posting your comment iy's inspiring! I'm 59 and need to loose a minimum of 50lbs. Cheers from Canada!
I know how you said you didn’t like longer fasting, yet this is how people often get rid of loose skin. It can take a while, but if you include 17-72 hour fasts periodically (you didn’t say how long your feeding window was), this can help with getting autophagy really going and with the loose skin. This is why people often include ADF or 72-hour fasts in while they’re losing fat, as it can help keep the loose skin from occurring at all or as badly.
Good for you! I started that last October after watching a tall by Dr Robert Lustig on sugar. I went to zero ultra processed food, no added sugar in any foods I eat, no alcohol and getting high protein snd fiber intake. Exercise is necessary.. but nothing crazy. I do weights and walking. My body change, at 76, is remarkable. I’ve never had a weight problem, but I did lose 8 pounds quickly. I do walk super early at sunrise and go to bed earlier and my sleep has drastically improved. People pushing fasting is not good as you get much older because you are in high danger of muscle loss (sarcopenia) and you tend to eat less protein. In fact, you tend to eat much less as you age, so cutting back on the time you eat is incredibly hard to get enough protein.Bad news for getting frail as you age!! I stop eating at 7 pm -I go to bed at 9pm-and eat again at 6:00 am. Long enough to help my sleep but I get in a full day of protein and fiber for my muscles. Vital.
The fat is not making you fat, it is refined glucose spiking foods. I eat butter. Full fat yoghurt and pounds of full fat cheese and eggs and steak. The drs will still say i will get a heart attack or stroke although i am leaner then at age 20 and never had visible abs until i did throw out all glucose from sugary beverages and bread. Pasta and pizza. Ldl cholesterol
We are guinea pigs in the medical profession. I had knee pain and mistaking went to my PCP. He did t ask me any questions about lifestyle. He just wanted to put a needle in my knee. Not happening. I went home and looked at what I was eating. I used rubbing alcohol and the swelling went away. I changed how I was walking up the steps. I did knee exercises. Lifestyle changes work.
I weighed 118 lbs in my late teens early 20’s but then I start gaining weight rapidly around my early 20’s my menstrual cycle started becoming later than normal . I didnt change my diet or activity level and I kept piling on the pounds. A GYN suggested I had PCOS. I managed to lose 30 pounds and was able to conceive our only child. I didnt get diagnosed with T2D until I was 37. I was never told about the connection between lower estrogen level and insulin resistance.

Years ago when I was struggling with sleep, I got so mad at this, so I acutely monitored why this was happening. 1. I overheated around 2:20am; 2. I drank water too close to bedtime; 3. I had unresolved issues which when I woke at 2, I couldn't get back to sleep because my mind was like a washing machine; 4. My bedding was either too light or making me too hot. So, now I aircon the place all night (except in winter). Resolve all things that bother me straight away. Have layered bedding. Try and drink less a couple hours before bed. This works to a point. I still wake up every night now close to 3am but soon fall back to sleep, though I get about 6 hours sleep which I would want to be more. After watching this podcast, I'm going to tweak some habits and see if anything changes. Love your podcasts Dr Chatterjee
I'm having same issues almost exactly. Doing exactly the same and still have interrupted sleep. The room temperature seems important. It's frustrating trying to figure it out
@@dianetrue2396 I forgot to add noise. I found these really good ear plugs (which I call hush puppies). They are hard foam which you roll thin, place in ears and then they expand. Better than those yellow hard plastic ones. Oh and I started sleeping with my head now at the foot of the bed which helped greatly. A big difference
Listen to your body. If you feel like a powerful workout a week before your period or even during, go for it, but if not, then do not. I don't go by my cycle but by how I feel. I am 46. It's more than just a cycle that influences how we feel and function.
Really need more info for POST MENOPAUSAL women. I’m 64, ex body builder in my 20’s, ex nurse & exercise physiologist. 9 years clean keto & now 6 months clean carnivore. And I still can’t shift 5 kilos of belly & thigh fat. I’ve tried every variation of fat/protein percentage & nothing seems to work. I am no longer insulin resistant and yet I’m stalled. 😱 All my life I’ve had a slim & athletic body until I turned 59. Perimenopause started at 45, menopause hit at 53 and the yo-yo-ing began. The last 5 years my fat loss has stalled & wont budge.
I know what you mean. What works in your 30’ doesn’t work when in your 60’s Mindy says to follow the moon cycle, but admittedly I don’t know how to apply it.
In her "Fast like a girl" book she has 6 different fasts and one of my favorite fasts is 36hrs fast and 12hrs of eating. 36-13-36 it is for fat loss especially the belly fats.
@vitalishus, I would include IF: Intermittent Fasting. I have Breakfast at 10am, a lite protein lunch or skip it, Dinner at 5-6pm of meat with veggies or salad. That is it, until 10 am tomorrow! The remaining kg should drop off if you're still exercising or at least walking for an hour daily, as long as you're sleeping well. Namaste 🙏 🕊
@@calista1280 That’s my point it doesn’t come off. I train 3 times a week now. I have been OMAD and IF for years. (Maybe that’s the problem) I eat only between a 3pm and 6pm window. It works well for me and I never gain weight. And yes I’m getting enough protein. It’s just those last 5 kilos that make a huge difference to how my body looks and feels. Now carnivore for 8 months.
Sincerely the best episode I have heard this year. Thank you doctors so so much. You have brought this 44 year old to the realization that we all need rest.
I'm convinced that the chronic stress since lockdowns, losing my job, friends, reinventing myself too slowly to feel secure etc. threw me into perimenopause. I was regular, 30 pounds lighter, and didn't have scalp psoriasis before it happened. And, yes, the old ways aren't working, maybe because I still have a lot of stress and haven't adjusted to the new normal. I'm also convinced that I shouldn't be doing things like HIIT at all since I am so stressed, since that stresses the body. I have my own breath work/body scan/Yin yoga practice and sometimes throw vinyasa in there, but, I still feel like I'm in someone else's body.
I also thought I was in someone else’s body. But then I started listening to Mindy Pelz on YT. Soon, I bought one of her books because the ratings were so good. Her book, called Fast like a Girl, is on Audible. I don’t have time to read but I listen to this while I drive or clean my house. I have read it once and am midway through my second time. It’s worth the read, and I’m starting to get my mind and body back through slow improvements to my lifestyle.
@@ishouldknowthis5095 :) She's got a vocal quality (nasal-y, and vocal fry-y) and delivery (talking loudly at me, rather than to me) that's pretty harsh in her videos for me, but then again I'm a voice artist and probably a bit critical. I'll have to check to see if she's got a demo up on Audible. Thank you!
I've listened to, and appreciated, many podcasts by Dr. Chattergee. I was really looking forward to this one because I thought it would help me as a post-menopausal woman struggling to lose belly fat. However, I became more and more annoyed as the podcast proceeded because the majority of the podcast was directed to women who are still in the menstrual stage of life. The podcast title included "for women over 40, do this before bed to lose belly fat". Do what before bed? The podcast didn't answer this - unless it is fasting? (which I already do). In short, the podcast was interesting, but I felt frustrated that the title didn't match the content, which felt misleading. I'm venting! But, I do want to say that I listen to many of Dr. Chattergee's podcasts and find the majority to be illuminating and helpful.
As to period cycling, I think there more to the story than just being out in nature. I've lived over 20 years on 162 acres in the wild bush Mountains of South East QLD. Living in a tiny home off grid, so spent most of my time outdoors. But my period was clock work from the start to the end. 28 day clear, 3 days on. Through out my whole time. And my mum had the same pattern to her cycle.
I absolutely love Dr Mindy! Been overweight all my life went keto 5 years ago and did great but when I hit 50 I started gaining weight. I was so frustrated and I knew my hormones were going bonkers! Had no idea what to do till I found Dr Mindy. I got Fast Like A Girl and game changer. I remember being scared to death eating more(nature’s)carbs on my nurture week 😂 thinking I’m going to gain weight! It actually helped me feel better and calm. I feel so good at 52 now and my cycle is like clockwork now. Yes I still have a cycle at 52! Uggg😂 I’m a night worker(9pm-4am) I do OMAD on work days so I eat 3 hrs before I go to bed and fast during work. I do drink black coffee during my shift.
These conversation are so important as you say. Thank you. At 37, nearly 38 years old I am experiencing many of these symptoms. Struggling with weight loss, (in the gym everyday/ consuming healthy food). So disheartening not to be seeing any results. This conversation is so interesting. I agree blood work/ hormones/ women’s hormones/ health during perimenopausal/ menopausal stage needs to be taken more seriously for sure.
PCOS with insulin resistance, Quit smoking at 21, quit alcohol completely at 28, no regular cycle after almost three decades of being on birth control, went off the pill early 30s, periods came every two or three months, always had a pregnant looking belly all my life, but never been pregnant. I didn't lose any weight, but I got pregnant at 39 after cutting out sugar down to whole food fruits, and cutting cow milk, took me 2 weeks to heal my acne with these lifestyle changes, took me 6 months to get regular timed menstrual cycle, took me a year to get pregnant, stuck to a regular whole food diet during pregnancy didn't overeat, didn't starve, just chose whole food if I was hungry and rarely had convenience or ate out. Baby one came a month early, healthy otherwise. Baby two was pregnant with 6 months after first was born. Second baby came on time and healthy. Diagnosed type 2 diabetes at 42 years old while trying to work full time job from home with two kids at home to also care for with very little help available because pandemic (once a week, 4 hours) so lack of sleep working sometimes allnighters. I try to get 6 hours now. I'm on ozempic and taro-gliclazide for type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar is back to prediabetic levels. I'm watching total carbs not just sugar grams now. I've noticed craving are gone i no longer feel deprived and weight easily coming off with diet changes and even faster with 5,000 steps (about 45 mins to 1 hour of walking) three times a week, I'm also getting enough carbs, protein and fats for my ideal weight 145lbs, I did the math to figure out macros. I'm down to 212 from 219 after 4 weeks. First week I lost 3 lbs, I'm fasting 2-4 hours between meals currently. meals are much smaller though as hunger is reduced probably from the medication.
Sorry ladies. I must be from another pĺanet or not fully human. I almost never had period pain and the only thing I experienced at menopause was the cessation of my periods, abruptly, from one month to the next. My belly fat occurred at age 17, immediately after returning to my birth country, the U.S, and starting college. I seem to have gained 1 lb of visceral fat per year until retiring, moving back to Mexico, and watching these podcasts. For me, intermittent fasting and removal of diet soda from my diet led to the astonishing loss of my belly fat and eliminated the need for statins within a week. I have never liked sweets, which is why type 2 diabetes had come as a surprise to me.
Phytoestrogens completely eliminated this problem for me. Later in life I had the described problem with weight gain and found it was a problem of sugar addiction. I eat loads of whole fruits and sweet potatoes and legumes as part of a whole food balanced diet. The weight fell off at almost 1kg /2lbs each week.
It's interesting to adapt your regular routine to your menstrual cycle. I think I do it instinctively but I didn't realize it. I do weight lifting but I would lift less heavy a week before my period. I thought it's cos I was tired but it's just how my body works. I also do 13 hours fast unconsciously! Dinner by 7 or 8 pm, breakfast by 9 or 10 am. Interesting!
Insuline resistence, interesting eye opener. This is the best video Ever for me. Viceral Liver Fat, estrogen, corrtisol, belly fat, I finally understand my female body. Evolutional mismatch.. toxins, pesticides, plastics, it all makes so much sense Thank you for this insight ❤ Female 59, struggling for over 20 years
Thank you for this excellent discission with Dr. Mindy--I wish I had known about this when I hit hormone chaos at 50--really went through a lot that I could have softened or avoided. Now at 60 I have incorporated many of Dr Mindy's hormone and other biochemistry info and it is such a blessing of health, mental and physical. Much thanks to you both.
You two make the best team You explain everything so well together. I wish you would do more videos Appreciate you both! We women need so much help & inspiration.

Thank you for underlining also the impact of problematic, potentially toxic ingredients in cosmetics and beauty products, the message has been around for a while now, but still needs more attention.
I’ve always managed my weight with exercising and walking but now I have Long cvd so limited! Nothing I do works and 30lbs overweight! I sleep good! Eat clean .. fast 16 hrs to 18 day!
This is phenomenal. I think I'm going crazy at times. I am 56. I had a partial hysterectomy in the middle of going through menopause. I have fewer normal feeling days. I get over stimulated easily. I have no clue what phase my body is at or where to begin to get back to any kind of normal.
I love this type of amazing informational discussions or interviews! I'm so glad that someone finally got us women! For yrs and yrs I have struggled with female issues like heavy periods, pms, mood swings, bloating, depression, difficult pregnancies etc, etc, and I always felt invisible and like no one cared., Im glad this is going public, since many, especially women refuse to talk abt "the woman issue", unless is to discriminate and prejudgel
Thank you Drs. Chatterjee and Pelz! This was a very informative Podcast! I am in my late 50's and have been so confused about my body changes and the menopause stage. This has opened my eyes. I appreciate you both for taking the time to speak about "Hormones" in depth. Subscribed to you both and happily reading "Fast Like a Girl" Thanks again!
Thank you, for getting to menopausal women at one hour, 21 minutes! What a relief😅 a fantastic informative easy to listen to wonderful contribution to women - thank you so much! Brilliant job🎉
Absolutely hate the headline, but fabulous content. I listened to this because it was two Doctors discussing women's hormones. Thank goodness I ignored the headline. Love your messages!
Wow this is mind blowing info. I am the perimenopausal woman that they speak about with all of those symptoms. I will definitely pay attn to my cycle and adjust my lifestyle habits.
So thankful I found your podcast . My situation may be a little different not sure how to do this . Just ordered your book Fast like a girl . I had to have a partial Hysterectomy at age 25 . They kept one ovary in because of my age . Dr. Said it looked good enough to leave in , thank God . They said it would through me into menopause . They tried to put me on Hormones . I kept bleeding so they wanted to change it . I said no because I didn’t want to take it because of cancer risk . I am 68 now and thank God I never got it . And just now starting Yam cream , but I’m having more hot flashes and not feeling great . I’ve had autoimmune disorders , allergic to my own antibodies. Osteo Arthritis. Bad allergies, sinus problems, etc. insulin resistance I believe . Have much stomach fat , tried almost everything for years can’t loose it . Loose some weight then gain it right back . I’m so frustrated. I would love to be apart of your working with hard cases thank you for all your hard work .
Rangan and team... please change the title of this podcast... it's click baitish and misleading! You're well beyond needing to do that! Please call it Learn to improve your life and relationships by tuning into hormonal cycles or something like that. People are searching for this info and won't find it like this! Good conversation. Love Mindy. ❤️
Good suggestion - this video was amazing & I learned so much re: hormones and cycles. These were the changes I did to finally lose the extra weight I gained in my 30-40s but I figured it out by chance and trial/error.
This discussion ignores the fact that many women now work well into their seventies... They also are the cook and housekeeper in the evening so having main meal at lunch is complicated. They can't just get up and do yoga and go play in the sun. Those women who are single and living alone can adapt meal times but many can't.
Wonder how circadian rhythms work with visually impaired people 🤔 I wonder how contraceptives play into all of this? 🤔 My experience is contraceptives caused me depression from a teenager. I stopped at 20. Still had depression but when I tried to take them again years later I was very unwell in many ways. I had early menopause at 41. The years before having nocturnal panic attacks and stress were put down to stress. Which I felt was just my weak inability to handle life. I can really hear the passion and desperation in Dr Mindy’s voice as she works to bring this information to everyone. I hope it helps someone in early peri especially like I was feeling it was me myself who was responsible for my depression and anxiety. ❤❤ Thank you both for this video … btw my husband had a traumatic life changing injury requiring 24/7 care and an awful stressful 7 year legal battle … I honestly think it was the constant stress that caused my early menopause. Just add lack of intercourse (various factors) also added to the shut down. Don’t you think that’s possible?
Great insights, Dr. Pelz and Dr. Chatterjee! As someone who works with women over 40, I often see them struggle with weight loss despite following healthy habits. What are your thoughts on balancing hormones as a key factor in fat loss, especially during perimenopause and menopause? Have you found any specific approaches that work best for this age group?
42 years old and have felt before that anyone can understand what has been going on in my body like Dr Mandy did. !! Endless search in YT and google but never found anything so related
So much great and empowering information in this podcast. I just bought two of your books and ready to dive deep now I’m in perimenopause. Thank god these conversations and knowledge is finally getting out to the mainstream. Thank you for your service Mindy 🙏💗✨
It is always awesome to hear someone say "get up at dawn, meditate with a Red Light, then go for a walk, get out for a walk at Lunch, don't eat when it is dark in the Winter but have a big Lunch and go for a walk....". Where do you live? Fairy Land? I get up at dawn, wake my son, leave for work, have 30mins Lunch breaks, get home around 7 or 8 pm, have dinner and go to bed. Am I the only one? These Tips don't sound like they are made for Real life people....
Why not? It's not like you have to meditate for hours or go for hourly walks. You could easily meditate for 10 mins. Go for a walk for 10 mins (even on your lunch break). Not eating during the dark of winter is sensible considering we are less active during the colder months.
You just need to put yourself in priority. I used to be like that, too. But now I get up early , get some morning sun and a little quite time in my vegetable garden , cook breakfast / lunch , pack their lunch, see them onto school bus. Pack my own breakfast & lunch to office, eat breakfast while checking email between 9-10am , and do some chair resistance training or stair climbing right after (about 15 mins) . Resume working, lunch around 2pm, and find reasons to walk around talk to people or go downstairs for a brisk walk of 15 mins. No dinner most of the time, but I still cook dinner for the family. Just need to plan well, I do pack half of the dinner protein into my lunchbox, and increase protein in my breakfast. I will walk 1 hour or 2 while waiting for my children on their sports practice.
Loved this so much. Im 50 and post menopausal. One answear i wasnt quite clear about was what cycle to follow over 50. The moon cycle does make sense but what counts as day 1? Do the hormones follow the same cycle as they do in a menstruating woman? I still want to be able to hack hormones for work performance and avoid weight gain.
Mindy is an absolute legend! So much vital information to share and thank you Rangan too for leading a great conversation. I have both those books and they are just brilliant resources. I can't recommend them enough to any woman over 30.
This makes me want to cry. I don't recognize my body anymore and my tricks aren't working and I'm wiped out. I need to implement her protocols but I don't know where to start
I am going to try to start with sleep. I am going to try to be off screens after dark, sleep in a cool dark room, get a long enough stretch, and try to get some natural light in my eyes in the morning.
I discovered Dr. Rangan's videos a few months ago and have always gained great insights from watching his interviews. However, in this interview, which was originally promoted as being for women over 40 and menopause, I found that I walked away with little to no insight on on how to deal with my hormones at my stage in life. This was because the conversation consistently focused on young women, and continually shifted in that direction whenever the subject of menopause was mentioned. I was so confused that I decided to look through the comments section to find other women's impressions, and noticed that Linda picked up on the same thing, and had a similar experience to mine. Just thought I'd share these thoughts.
You need to get dr.mindys book "fast like a girl" or "the menopause reset". I stumbled on dr Mindy back in July of this year and she has helped me to understand my hormones and how to balance it. I was pretty sick back in the spring and my family dr. Could not help me figure it put. Thank goodness I found her and her reset community and she has helped me tremendously and I feel so much better and on the path to healing. Hope you check out her videos on YT
Excellent points Dr. Mindy. What also needs to be discussed is how come Drs. don't prescribe womens sex hormones Estrogen, Progesterone and testosterone like they do for the hormones insulin & thyroid??? DR. Barbie Taylor ( retired OBGYN) gives many tutorials on utube to educate woman on menopause! She's an excellent resource.
This conversation is such a wonderful gift. Not only is this so helpful, but it's inspiring as well. I am incredibly grateful to both of you for giving us this gift. I took away so many juicy nuggets that I will put into practice and share with others.
I am 68 years old and have been intermittent fasting for five years. I have not lost weight. I am still 215 lbs. Since I was 50 I have been on mental health medications. One of them is Abilify 10 mg tab which has been now changed to Pms-Topiramate 25 mg TAB twice per day. Hopefully, this will aid in losing weight. I told my Psychiatrist that my weight would kill me before my mental health.

Finding the ‘woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth’ ebook should be your top priority, even if it’s the last thing you do in life
I'm 43 and Dr Mindy is exactly right.

I stayed fit for about 11yrs, i only fasted 1 day a week, I'm getting back to this lifestyle change, and feeling better.i love listening to this Doctor's podcast.
What do you eat to break your fast.
Since age is mentioned that is a big difference, I'm curious your age.
@lindagreen9638 I was 23yrs old
I've noticed that Dr.
I have always wondered with all the havoc after menapausw, how did women ‘s body adapt before puberty? Why can't women go back to that?
Can you explain how to fast due to the cycle? The video is too long 🥲

Great❤ But do you ever go low-carb at some point? And I m talking about the good carbs we find in potato and/or vegetables and fruits in general ... 😊
Exactly!💯❤️
Lift weights 💪

The title here makes so much more sense! I listened to this as a Poscast and it was titled as Menopause: How to burn fat and live in harmony with your Hormones yet 80% of the episode was about PERIODS which really annoyed me because I though this was about menopause. It felt like a slap in the face…
Hello, could you kindly inform me about this podcast?
I hope you are feeling better now, 10 months later. If not, it's not to late. Baby steps. You are worth the effort
So get sleep, workout in the morning, get some sunlight, and don't eat dinners late in the evenings.

I CAN’T “get up at sunrise.” I’m a nurse. In the winter, I go to work in the dark and go home in the dark. And I HATE winter-I stay in a funk ti the daffodils bloom.
Is there any way you can go to sleep close enough to a window that you could have the sunrise light shine on you even if you’re sleeping? I have a window that I have made it allow the sunrise light to come in to the room when I’m sleeping. It has worked out great for me. Hopefully, I have been able to help you in some way.❤

As a teacher, I feel your pain! I’m up at 3:45 and home around 6 pm or later. It’s tough!
I am an RN, too, and have the same issue 😢
[Actually, i just googled that and it's worse- avg 165 sunny days/yr.😩]
I also get the dog outside in the cold first thing out of bed and that helps with my grog.
Mindy was listing 5 things for over 40’s to do, number 4 was toxicity, she didn’t get to 5, does anyone know what it is?
Powerful statement and absolutely true!!
I love Dr. Mindy! She is speaking my life at 47 right now! Thank you 🙏 for your advice and wisdom!

This is such an important conversation. I would like to see more discussions on Women’s health, especially regarding menopause and connected sleep issues. Thank you for a great podcast.
I learned how to be a woman at 42 thanks to this woman, thank you Dr. Mindy!
Thank you Dr Mindy for representing voices of us women
Thank you Dr Mindy
Ps- I'm a 47 year old woman
I hope this is true! Hate the loose skin
Two of my most respected pillars. Dr Mindy you are amazing. Thank you for your incredible passion and for helping women!! ❤
Ladies we can lose the weight....and GAIN our health❤❤
True! My question is, why didn't this happen to our forefathers/mothers? Weight is purely lifestyle!!
@@hellenkini1943because human life styles and food environment entirely changed from our forefathers and foremothers… including the terrible government food pyramid recommendations that many people listened to
Years ago when I was struggling with sleep, I got so mad at this, so I acutely monitored why this was happening.
What works in your 30’ doesn’t work when in your 60’s
Mindy says to follow the moon cycle, but admittedly I don’t know how to apply it.
5 kilos? That’s your body protecting you. Let it go.
In her "Fast like a girl" book she has 6 different fasts and one of my favorite fasts is 36hrs fast and 12hrs of eating. 36-13-36 it is for fat loss especially the belly fats.
@vitalishus,
I would include IF: Intermittent Fasting.
Thanks for highlighting the complexities of the human body!
Get "The menopause reset" by her. Excellent book. It explains a lot, is very detailed and tells you what to do.
@@katjawascher2780 Thank you for the recommendation.
I agree with you- this discussion was focused on menstruating women only, not me as I am post menopausal
Exactly my thoughts 😟
Dr Pelz's book "Fast Like A Girl" explains fasting for women of ALL ages. I'm 66, and her guidance has been a game-changer for me!
The best desicion I ever made was getting the ebook Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, it completly changed my life
Where do I find this ebook?
Google
How is it different to other books?
No BS, straight to the point and tells you a lot of stuff you cant find elsewhere
Such an inspiring conversation, Mindy Pelz is absolute gold. Thank you both!!
Is the black coffee during youur shift has monkfruit sugar????
@@healthtips4340 just black coffee

At 37, nearly 38 years old I am experiencing many of these symptoms. Struggling with weight loss, (in the gym everyday/ consuming healthy food). So disheartening not to be seeing any results.
This conversation is so interesting.
I agree blood work/ hormones/ women’s hormones/ health during perimenopausal/ menopausal stage needs to be taken more seriously for sure.
This is the best youtube video I have ever watched that actually taught me something about myself to help me heal myself. Thank you so much!
What was the point of bragging about this? You didn’t add anything of value to the conversation.
These kind of things should be thaught in school!!! Thank you for this ❤
Phytoestrogens completely eliminated this problem for me.

This is phenomenal. I think I'm going crazy at times. I am 56. I had a partial hysterectomy in the middle of going through menopause. I have fewer normal feeling days. I get over stimulated easily. I have no clue what phase my body is at or where to begin to get back to any kind of normal.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this interview was life-changing for me. Thank you!
Thank you Drs. Chatterjee and Pelz! This was a very informative Podcast! I am in my late 50's and have been so confused about my body changes and the menopause stage. This has opened my eyes.

Good conversation. Love Mindy. ❤️
So true!! I only found this video by random chance.
Exactly! Title definitely doesn't match the contents!
Fabulous conversation, thank you both so much ❤️
Great insights, Dr.

Who is talking about women after menopause? Love you. Thanks.
One word Dr Mindy and Dr Chatterjee ..BRILLIANT!!!!
One can make excuses, or one can slowly shift their schedule in the right direction to prioritize health. It's a choice.
Medication as part of my ongoing cancer treatment makes it very, very difficult to get out of bed before midday
Exactly I commented exactly this. Many women even into their 70s are working and also running the home
Start with sleep. Dark cool room, no screens after dark. Enough hours. Try to get natural light in the morning.

This is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!❤
Dr. Mindy is a living legend! 😊
So much info - i would love a shorter summary video with just a tip.
Her book menopause reset is very clear and gives clear instructions.
Wonderful, a true, wholesome somatic approach to wellbeing.
And feminism....smdh
