It looked so much more classy and better in matte than glossy.
I agree!
The flute took me out 💀 great vid, thanks!
Great vid regardless, but "Enjoy the soothing effect of the spray" gave me a much-needed laugh today.
I actually like the matte black look of the primer 😂😂
I do too! The gloss seems to be easier to clean though and appears collect less dirt. But the flat makes it look higher end. You could just buy the flat paint 🤷🏻♂️
I have a 5 piece patio project to refinish, you make the process, from start to finish, look so easy. Thank you.
Thanks! It does take some time but it is really simple. You can do it! Let me know how it works out for you.
I totally enjoyed the smooth relaxing spray motion. 😂 Subscribed!
Just come across this looking to restore my furniture you made it look nice and easy thank you!
I’ve been wanting to get a label printer for my small business for the longest time and finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did ! This machine is great ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxw55tQTywUAAOsbrlwxONZULry77sFF1Q and the blue/green color matches the rest of the accents in my office. My favorite part is how small the footprint is. It’s less than 1/4 the size of my regular printer.Set up was fairly easy. Seller will email you a link with video instructions Which I found to be more helpful than the written instructions. I use a Mac and had no issues. They even included an adaptor for USB to USB-c which is great because I’m always losing mine! I had a few issues getting the labels to print properly and wasted quite a few sheets. You need to play around with the settings to get everything adjusted just right. If you have the wrong settings, it’ll crop off the edges or feed through blank labels. These aren’t issues with the machine though, just user error.
Thank you so much for the video, finally getting to do the same to some old chairs I’ve had in the patio for a while now.
Awesome! Hope they turn out looking great and get some good use now.
Nice video. Gonna try it on the patio furniture we have!
Just subscribed 👍🏽. Love what I’ve seen so far
Thank you. You made sound simple.
Really liked the way you did your before and after shot towards the end. Had the chair in the exact same spot and had the "transform" effect.
Thank you!
Love the commentary and music. I feel so zen now! haha
Haha it was pretty zen doing the spraying too!
The music!! 😂😂😂 great video, thanks!
Good job
This very informative and funny.
Love this video! Thank you!!!!
Thank you! Please let me know what other summer projects you’re looking at. Love to hear what everyone’s up to!
I'm sold
Please more videos. This was educational and entertaining.
Thank you! What kind of videos are you interested in seeing next?
@@BuskItBarn can you make garden things, like an a frame trellis? Or maybe how to drill into concrete. I need to fasten things outside but don’t know how to use my drill or what drill bits are used for various materials.
I can make garden stuff. What kind of trellis? A-frame or vertical?
@@BuskItBarn both 😎
Thank you boss, I just picked up some patio furniture off of Face Book Market place. The Colorado weather here gave it a beating, but I cant pass on a good deal
Same here! A good deal is a good deal. I’m sure it’ll come out great when your done restoring it. 🙂
I like the look with just the primer. What primer did you use?
I dunno. I’m gonna spot scrape and prime and just go with the spray paint. It’s a re-coat and a full priming is just not needed.
Hi there, how many spray paint can did you use per chair?
What was that sprayer you put on the can called and where did you get it?
Rustoleum Spray Can Grip. You can buy them at Ace hardware, or online if you don’t have Ace in your area.
Lol, the best part of this video is your wife. She’s hilarious 😂
She’s the best
As a humble suggestion, I would use a circular wire brush on a hand drill or a variable speed Mototool (I happen to have a great METABO!!!), in that way you can wirebrush much faster and in a less tiresome way. Nevertheless, I've found that wirebrushing with power can produce a too-smooth metal surface, that could lack enough anchoring profile... Thus I go the sander way after wirebrushing, with coarse cloth backed abrasive sheet on my small 1/4 sheet palm sander, but you can also use a angle grinder with sanding attachment disc, or a Random Orbit Sander, or even a hand drill with a flap sandpaper drum, but try to scratch the surface just enough to create the roughness that will give a proper anchor profile, avoiding any polished areas where the primer or paint won't adhere firmly. Best wishes.
Thank you for the detailed and thoughtful feedback! These sound like some great methods that could help speed up the process. I’ll have to give them a try. I’m especially curious about the circular wire brush method, since a similar approach can work nicely when cleaning up a live edge wood slab.
Thanks for sharing!
That’s what I did with my patio set. Works like a charm.
Thanks for this tip!
Spend the extra and get a twisted wire cup brush, the straight wire ones come apart and make you speak in tongues
Should most of the paint be removed or just scratched up enough for the new paint to stick
I used rust reformer ( after sanding off rust) and a month later the rust returned
Hi. I have black iron chairs with some rust. There isn’t any chipped paint. Aside from the sander and brush. How could I remove the rust? Once removed do I need to paint them or can I just clean them with soap and water? Thank you.
If the paint is in tact, the rust you’re seeing is underneath the paint. I would use the same process to remove the paint and then the rust, unless you want to use a chemical stripper. Make sure you use a professional respirator mask if you go that route, so you don’t inhale any fumes. Smart Strip is another option that apparently is less toxic but I haven’t tried it yet.
I’d recommend painting any iron given it’s susceptibility to rusting.
Does it have to be an orbital sander? I have a traditional type sander.
I’m sure you can, but random orbital sanders are easy to control, get a good results, are safer than some other options. If you don’t have a random orbital sander, you’ll find you can get one fairly inexpensive and can find one at garage sales too. They’re also like the Swiss Army knives of sanders - extremely versatile and always come in handy. Just my two cents for what it’s worth!
Whats the name of the shiny gloss black paint you mentioned using after primer at 4:00 ??
Rustoleum Painters Touch 2x Ultra Cover Paint
How many chairs do you think you could comfortably do with one can of paint. I don't want to go overboard at the hardware store. My furniture isn't rusty, just faded. I was planning on just scuffing it up with 150 grit sand paper. Do you think that will be enough or should I go a bit rougher?
I think scuffing with 150 is just fine. I used one can per chair after doing the a coat of primer, but I had exposed metal after sanding. So, I think if you want it to look brand new do at least one can per chair, but if your happy doing a light touch up that’s not perfect, you could get away with a little less - maybe 3/4 of a can per chair. Make sure to use a strong sandpaper with 150, don’t get the cheap Ace or Home Depot stuff. I recommend a 3M paper or there’s a small company called Serious Grit that’s cheaper and extremely tough.
Good luck!
@@BuskItBarn Thanks, I had some left over 3M 150 grit laying around so I'll use that. I'm not overly fussed with it looking brand new as it's a 10 year old table and chairs. Thanks for the help :)
Please tell me how many cans of paint do I need to get per chair ?? Thanks!
I used one can of primer and one can of paint per chair, plus an extra can to touch up some spots I missed. I was able to use the extra can to touch up four chairs I refinished. Hope that helps! Let me know how it turns out. :)
Should the orignal coat be mostly removed or just scratched up enough for the new coat to stick?
It depends on the condition of the paint you’re covering. You want to remove anything that could crack and flake off, and as much rust as you can if there is any. If the original paint you’re covering is in good condition, you don’t have to do much. With the new paints, like the one I used, they can adhere without roughing the undercoat, as long as it’s clean. Older paint with some years on it, especially in climates that fluctuate in temperature a lot, are likely to crack underneath your new coat if you don’t remove the original paint.
is it a good idea to use a clear sealant after you paint?
I think it would depend on the type of sealant. I use oil-based paints for outdoor furniture, so I suppose as long as it’s oil-based and designed to adhere to oil-based paint, it should work.
Would you use a clear coat to the paint after?
I suppose you could but I haven’t needed to. This paint seems to dry pretty hard, and with the primer as a base, it makes for a fairly thick finish. That said, a clear coat could only make it more durable, so no down side except a bit of extra work!
@@BuskItBarn thank you! great video :]
@@clairehirano5889 thanks! What else would you like me to make a video about?
Where do you get the sprayer attachment to the spray paint?
You can get them at Ace hardware or Home Depot.
hmmm sitting in a red hot black chair on the deck in summer time, that sounds logical. they were painted white for a reason
Well, they were originally black, so I guess that shows the state they were in if they looked white. We live in Colorado so the max temp is 90 and that’s for about a week out of the year. 🤷🏻♂️
My chairs will be in my condos patio. I only get sun in the AM.
Why always have to be lemonade at the end? That’s getting old. But good job though
😂
after i get them ready to paint i turn them upside down and paint bottoms first then flip over and paint top side and let dry, that way you don't mess up finished coat, powered wire brush is lots faster too good vid thanx!
Great tip!
