  • This how-to video shows the easy steps you can follow to turn rusted wrought iron patio furniture back to the original beauty it once had.
    I purchased 5 cans of Rustoleum Rust preventative primer spray paint, and 10 cans of Krylon Shiny black spray paint with primer. I barely had enough black spray paint to finish the job.
    The umbrella was $58 from Walmart. It is the Home and Garden brand, and even swivels. Lowe's and Home Depot carry an equivalent for over $100.
    The seat cushions are from Amazon. I paid $98 (with tax and shipping). The brand is called Pillow Perfect, and they are made for outdoor furniture.
    Thank you so much for watching this video. We would greatly appreciate it if you could give this video a thumbs up, share it, subscribe and push the bell for notifications of upcoming videos.

    You should wear a mask when sanding. I needed an MRI and they asked if i did a metal work or sanding. They said it could get into the lungs

    Going to work on a small patio table I was just gifted today! It’s rusted around the corners and underneath. The hardest part is deciding if I want to paint everything silver or black lol. It’s mosaic on the top. I’m obsessed!

    I have the same table, and then 6 chairs (with the open lattice work, similar to the table), and a lounge chair to do! About how many cans of spray paint (both the primer and the top coat) did you need to complete your table and 4 chairs?

      Hi! Thank you so much for watching the video ☺️. It's been awhile since I did that video...but, if I remember correctly... I used about 4 cans of each primer and top coat for the entire project. With what you are describing...you might want to purchase 7 cans of each and take back what you do use. You Can Do It 👍

    Does the primer allow you to change the color? I have a patio set in good shape but don’t like the color

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  7 місяців тому +1

      HI. Thank you for watching. If you apply a primer, you can easily hide the original color of the patio set, and then be able to apply a new color to your furniture. The primer helps to prepare the surface for the new topcoat color. Just a few cans of spray paint and you have a whole new set!! 👍

    What sander did you use?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi. The sander is a Dewalt brand sander. It works great and the sanding discs are super easy to swap out, as the sander has a Velcro-type surface that grabs hold of the sanding discs. Hope that information helps 👍

    ....and if you were paying yourself labor fees, the finished cost would have gone up.😉 But hey, a lot of us do DIY makeovers and don't "pay ourselves". How many cans of each paint did you use for this project?

      @@sirenenlied Hi B.B. I totally would agree at first...but, then I did some research and realized that a five piece wrought iron table and chairs with umbrella starts at around $700 and can go all the way up to $2000 for a similar table and chairs. Prices these days are obnoxious. I still thought $175 was a bit much to pay for something that needed to be refinished. However, I now have a piece that will last pretty much a lifetime as long as I continue to touch up any spots that chip off. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment! 👍

      Dare I say that it's worth a million dollars? 😆 In all honesty...I just looked similar wrought iron table and chairs up on Amazon and Wayfair. Similar models are on sale from between $600 and $800...so, I would have to say that for the price and a few cans of paint...this was definitely worth it! 👍

    If you are using a paint with primer, why do you need an additional primer?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  Рік тому +2

      Hi, thank you for watching the video. That is a good question. I like to do a "primer only" spray as the base, because the combo sprays (primer & top coat) don't seem to adhere as good to the metal as it would if there was a solid primer base on the metal first. Hope this information helps👍

    You really need to be wearing a mask (R95, P95 or P100) when spray painting. Those paints can cause permanent brain damage.

    The real winners was the person that sold a rusty table and chairs for $175. The paint company also scored on this. Can you imagine 15 cans of paint at about $15/can (Biden's economy) = $225. Now we're up for $400. Plus umbrella, plus seats. Oh wow. By the time you're done, you've invested $1000 into an old, used, rusty set. PASS
