In my opinion, Valeriy is the new master. If you look through his channel, over a hundred self-produced songs and videos, he is not a single person as a producer, arranger, composer, multi-instrumentalist (especially keyboard), singer, sound engineer and video editor surpass. Ok there's Jacob Collier and maybe a few other guys but he's unique in terms of feeling in his music. And not to forget, he didn't have a jazz, funk, soul/gospel base in Russia like Cory Henry or others in the US. He's been very inspired by MJ, Chick Corea, Jeff Lorber, Dave Weckl and others, but he's also made a kind of art out of his own music that I don't see in a lot of young rising stars. When the war is hopefully over soon, he will roam the world with his band and conquer it too. greets
I totally agree with you. I had the opportunity to see him playing in the Netherlands some years ago. He is so talented.

My drum teacher introduced me to Borlai two weeks ago and I think I’ve watched every video of his. The dude is a monster, a “hyper-alloy combat chassis” if you will. His dynamic control is hard to believe

I don't think it can be overstated just how TASTY those rim clicks were at the end of the bass solo. It added so much texture and it fit so well.

Hey Andrew, I don't know about you and your drum buddy's but since the early 90's we would get together and shoot the crude and watch some hero's of ours and find new drum masters and laugh and be in awe. fast forward and those days are few and far between. It's almost like that with you and the internet and it is pretty great to see you react like we do/did at a friends house.

Valeriy uses a L O T of superdrummers, mostly unknown to the community but I would like you to feel a few...if you don´t already know them.
In the favourite song as for now, "Believe In Yourself" also starring the great Eric Marienthal on saxophone, you will find Steven Williams on drums, so good and has the best posture i have ever seen on a drummer!!
Another song I tend to see/listen a lot, is "On A Storks Wing" and features drummer Marcus Thomas , who has , in my eyes, a strange setup, but what a fantastic drummer,! There is also a video on a shot only from his perspective on his YT-channel, much fun!
The one I watch/listen to most of all, is Stepanovs live performance "Fusion Project-Live 2" and the russian musicians he has on stage is A M A Z I N G, and the audio is supreme, located in a, what I believe, a pub.
Freaking amazing! The first song (they have a presentation and a introduction with nice vibe-music by the band) is my absolute favourite, called "Incistence". The whole concert is fantastic!
Valeriy is a multi-musician, as you know, and there is a livevideo where he plays keys and drums at the same time..... #mindblowing

I just found a 90 minute live performance of Guthrie Govan , Anton Davidyants, , and Gergo Borlai. ..from a 2019 concert in Russia .

It isn’t pleasing to the ears, no matter how talented.
The drumming was crazy, but the song in my opinion was not enjoyable. That was the definition of music for musicians. That is playing notes for the sake of playing them, which means the piece has lost its way. Single Notes are meant to be heard so they can serve the melody. That was a beehive..
Je suis d accord avec vous. Nous sommes dans la démonstration pure et dure. Cela arrive avec les musiciens de très haut niveau, c'est ici le cas. Niveau rare et exceptionnel, voir hors normes. Extra-terrestre....c'est possible...

Technically great just not for me
They are virtuosos, of course. But there is no music. There is no taste, no melodic taste, no interesting arrangement, no phrasing. The sound is plastic. It's played beautifully, but it's not enough for the music to appear.
God I love those nobodies in youtube comments giving their expert opinion on what is music and what isn't.
To me being a big fan of death metal and rock music,this sounds like a bunch of noise to me. It's good precision no doubt,just not my style
