Mark, thank you guys for putting together a great youtube channel . I watch your channel every week. I first started watching when you where 100% outside. keep up the good work, and I will keep watching.
Back in another lifetime I had a bit to do with giving commentary and because of the quirks of being human I did well at it and needed to say that your style of "Living Commentary" would have gotten my tick of approval back them. Very enjoyable. Thank You all.
Back in the 1950's when I was a child on our little farm, we had a grove of giant black walnut trees. We were poor and needed money so Dad decided to sell them. The buyer cut them down and put them in our pasture. The man never came to get them. After 2 or 3 years, we decided to add on to our barn. So Dad decided to have the sawmill down the hollow to saw them into full 1" boards for sub flooring. They are still there as far as I know. The mill was powered by a old, steel wheeled, cross engine Minneapolis Moline tractor. In my mind, I can still hear that engine bark as the logs were fed into the saw. The owner and his partner, Charlie Jackson and Dudley Tennant, are long gone but their mill is still fresh in my mind after 70 years have passed.
Hi Mark , let you know your dooing a great job with the vids and Eddie and ZZ too ,great team thanks for the longer vid , realy realy enjoyed it keep it up many thanks ,dont listen and any neg dodo here either your doing things just great :)
Band saw blades may not be expensive for some folks but as a disabled hobbyest sawyer, they can get rather expensive after a while. Enjoyed the video as always. Hope y'all had a wonderful Father's Day!
@@markgalicic7788 I've got a new one on the mill and three new ones on hand. Thankfully I can sharpen and reset the pitch on the same machine. A little bit of redneck engineering but it works!
Thanks for the terminology, Mark. You would be surprised at the number of people that do not know the terms used in sawmilling, well maybe not. I think I am still learning a few myself. I have tried to educate some young and older people about the length to cut their logs many times. That log with metal is a tree that I don't know anything about. We may not have them down south...What was it again please?
You have heard me say something about that edger before and here it is a gain, I like that edger. If I had my own mill, I would have a nice edger like yours to go with the mill, even if a band mill..
Love your shows. Sad that the Ginko had metal in it. We usually use a wood spiral drill bit on a large 1" electric drill to see how deep the metal is in case it is salvageable once we locate it.
Hot, muggy and stormy here in North Central Wisconsin. I asked Grandpa if he remembers ever hitting metal he said he did hit numerous fence staples and barbed wire. He then told us when he just started at the mill the sawyer (an older man they called Gerhardt) hit an axe head. Shut them down for a few days. Anyway they never let him live that down. I wonder what metal was in that other tree. I guess we all were. Nice red oak.
Hello mark eddie and zz love your channel my granddaughter and I were watching you saw the big red oak ,just thaught its going to be her 6th birthday on June 23rd ,love your and Eddie's channels
On video 573 about how much moisture was in the log, and about how long to dry the lumber before using it??? Nice oak boards!! Great job you guys did all the way through!!
Nice oak guys: As you know Mark: When metal is in doubt - throw it out! Too much time and money spent when the blade strikes metal.. possibly even dangerous > bad hombre for sure :) Keep em coming - SUMMER is here 💯🙏
Eddie Bunion, I though I recognized him. You never know what you are going to get..............lot of work. What a shame that a nail from years ago haunts you today. Nice boards. Did the motor come with the sawmill or was that separate?????
I tried looking up the term Cant the first time you said it. I thought it had to be flat on 4 sides. Flat on one side makes sense. A cant can’t roll. 😂
👍👌👏 Maaaan, I'm really glad that you use this metal detector. It definitely saves you a lot of money and trouble. 2) Please do not edit in music when machines are running. Especially not loud music. It's quite annoying and distracting. Thanks in advance for consideration. As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
And another thing 😉, I appreciate the jive value of calling them'victims', it's just a little dark humor. Those who object should find their sense of humor, dust it off, and give their sense of outrage the day off.
Don't know if you already tried this or not but if you could place a box infront of the cab to catch some of that "man glitter", you could place it in a jar and sell it off as a fun little joke gift. I bet someone could mix it in resin and make some blanks out of it for some turning thing as well.
Four o’clock in the morning finding metal in saw logs isn’t good causes a lot of damage, I’ve an early start warming castings up to weld lugs back on luckily it’s cast steel so it’s the arc welder and not gas after welding it’ll be supper time before there cool enough to machine , so it’s another slow day anyway you guys have a nice day
Happy little victim? Not for long. How happy could it be once someone (Mark) starts cutting it with a giant blade. Now we know how little Nell felt when the bad guy threatened her with the buzzsaw. lol Bill
It's a cant not a can't. Canted means tilted or sloped and a cant hook is for tilting ie rolling a log. From that we get a log that has been rolled and cut being called a cant. Some sawyers say it's a cant as soon as one side is flat, so you can't say a cant can't be rolled, can you?
Eddie and ZZ be having a "lumberjack" attack on that ginko and alas it ain't gonna make the grade. May it rest in pieces. Congratulations to Alex and Brooke again. BTW did you get my e-mail?
Mark's Terminology Session: "Interesting Cab-Lore Fact, the statement 10-4, that's what Brodrick Crawford said all the time on his 'Highway Patrol' radio. What do you think I'm watching in the Cab?" ZZ Mark Red Oak Surmising: "Don't make us go midevil on another volenteer victim."
@@markgalicic7788 just wondered if you could cut the metal out with a chainsaw if you would have 2 - 5’ logs. Probably not worth your time. I haven’t seen ginkgo logs that size. And I don’t know what ginkgo lumber is good for or how valuable it is.

Amazing how fast oak stain! Even the short time on the carriage give it that blue black marks.

Mark, you Mr. Eddie, and ZZ put out some of the most beautiful lumber. That Red Oak was some very good quality from what I could see.

Sawing pine...reminds me of the cherry you guys sawed a while back. Seemed like there was cherry for months!
it's been a while since we had a good cherry log here.
Watching and thumbs up from here in Missouri

Great to see the behind-the-scene goings on 😎😎💯💯👍👍

Thanks for showing how careful you have to be after the metal detector indicates something is in a log.

we can save the log if it's not to deep.

What causes the black streaks from the rails?
tannic acid reacting with the Iron.
Pretty boards

When one would like to start sawing wood, what's the best way to start?
I try to saw the worst face first.
@@markgalicic7788 What kind of equipment should one start with?
Do you guys do many railroad ties instead of dunage?
we never got into sawing ties.
Otto Kilcher is an uncle to the Super-Duper world-famous Singer Jewell Kilcher! He has royalty in his family.
that's how the show got started.

To the person that doesn't like the log to be called a "victim". Don't like it....? Dont watch. It really is that simple.

Totally agree, Russell!! 👍It's a log - who cares what Mark calls it!! 🤷♀️😵💫

we do more custom sawing so any size.
Aw, shucks! Too bad you couldn't cut the good part of the Ginko (sp?) into crafting blocks or bowl blanks.
If we could get the kids to saw it on there band mill.
I've seen, in some EARLY vids, you had a red band mill. What happened to that critter?
With a band mill you probably had to lift it by hand, there's always that.

Not just “yard trees “ have metal. Trees on field edges have barbed wires, pieces of chain and even horse shoes in them! Beware!
How do you put up with so much grief? I couldn't take it.
What is the shortest log you can saw?
The width between the knees plus twice the width of the knee.
we can saw down to 4 foot but it's very dangerous.
