    Hello !
    I own a 530 EXC R '08, has now reached 200hrs and 9 thousands Kms, i decided to rebuild whole engine with brand new genuine parts. The known 530 '08 oil consumption issues have several causes. I read in a forum few weeks ago about this subject, now as my engine is "puzzle like" i am aware on verifying if my new parts package is including updated parts. For sure, the Dell'orto 100 oil jet in right bottom section has to be swapped by a bigger one (125), also must swap the O-ring of oil pump cover by a bit bigger section to avoid (supposedly) engine gearbox oil transfer.
    The pipe going down from valve cover to air filter box should also be removed or obstructed (??), causing oil burning issue, carbon deposit on valves, exhaust smoke after restarting in case of falldown.
    Oil pump shaft and plastic gears have been updated, it would be (??) a bit longer than the old one and stronger plastic gears.
    At this time, my engine is in spare parts, shock absorber and fork in servicing, new engine parts ready for assembly but i prefer making myself sure before beginning re-assembly and / or making mistakes.
    If you read my comment soon enough, perhaps you could give me some information or confirmation regarding these steps.
    I'm french, and am hoping you all will understand my english writing !!
    THX Cya

    Never believe what your told when you buy a bike then! I have been doing it wrong for the past 20 hours, and only putting 450-500ml max. -.- Stripping the bike now for a service. Thank you for this advice man.

    I used HondaBond® HT (gasket-in-a-tube) for any issues of that nature with my 2006 625 SMC. That stuff works great and lasts a long time, it also holds up to high heat extremely well. Best of luck with your bike.

    Nice how yours starts so easy. I own the 08 and it is a nite mare to start off battery.

    Yes the earlier 2008-09 had oil consumption issues. Thankfully you can buy the updated parts. The 2011's had all of the latest revision. You can check more on ktmtalk and search oil pump gear. You will find the how-to to upgrade you parts.

    It's a flat sealing surface, if the o ring replacement isn't helping, just add a little blue gasket maker for a good seal ;-)

    When I change the oil I just drain it at the bottom screw first - then drain the filter room and change the filter, plug the bottom screw back in and fill it up. After that I just start it up and refill a couple of times as the engine/oil filter soaks up oil. Any cons about doing it that way instead of laying it down and soaking the filter manually and filling the filter room first? Seems like a little bit less hassle :) nice vid tho!

    awesome bike ive never filled up the oil filter cavity like that though "oops"

  • @haknslash
    @haknslash  11 років тому

    Nope I haven't had any leaking issue. Maybe your oil filter cover is slightly bent either from impact from a fall or over tightening by previous owners? Check on ktmtalk forums if anyone has had leaking oil filter covers. Best of luck man.

    Haha yes it is on stock kick stand. KTM really should of made it shorter and they also should if ditched the "auto-retract" function. Thankfully those are two simple mods to fix :)

    Lol. That oil change was after the first couple of hours on a new bike. Very important to change it soon to get all thee new metal out of the crankcase.

    Nice bike. I am leaning towards a 530 EXC-R. My last bike was a 625 SMC (2006). I loved the Lc4 and with full Akra's it was a very nice engine, but I have been wanting something a little more aggressive if you know what I mean :)
    Are there any things I should know about the bike before I make a decision? It would most likely end up in Supermoto trim and spend at least 90% of the time on asphalt, we have awesome backroads for SuMo action here in southeastern PA.

    Check it at operating temp. The glass window should not be used as a "fill level indicator". Always measure how much oil you get out of the motor and keep a log so you can tell what the motor is doing and make sure no oil is burning. Always measure exactly how much you add when you change the oil as well.

    Nice video. Only you can safe yourself the energy of filling up the oil filter. Just fill with 0,35, let run 30 sec without revving than wait a couple of minutes and top it of with 0,25l. I do always look at the indicator screen and top it just under the top. Why be smarter than the KTM manual?

  • @haknslash

    Sigh. I guess that's why KTM's own enduro, HS and Erzberg competitions. The RMZ is not a enduro or woods machine, it's motox. You mean Beta 520. The same motor that is actually a old KTM RFS motor, yes it had to have the valves adj. This video has nothing to do with RFS motor. The XC4 motors only have one filter but do have seperate trans and engine oil sump. The NEWER KTM's use one filter but both engine and trans share the same oil sump. At least know what you're talking about b4 posting.

    When I change mine. I remove the fuel tank too.
    Fuel tank cap with vent hose is a perfect drain. Makes a mess.

  • @haknslash
    @haknslash  12 років тому

    Oh and yes some of the earlier XC4 motors had oil pump and transfer issues. You're point being? Name me one motor made by anyone that hasn't had some sort of issue at one point or another. That's what I thought. Regardless of the fact, the 2011 bikes had all of the component upgrades (piston rings, oil pump gear, etc) so I'm not sure what your comment has anything to do relating to the 2011 EXC oil change. You're just a hater. an uneducated one at that.

    Which its the tube below the ignition cover?

    • @haknslash
      @haknslash  8 років тому

      I don't have the bike anymore but it was vent tube if I recall. I don't have a shop manual with me any longer, so I'm sorry I can't tell you what the tube was.

  • @haknslash
    @haknslash  11 років тому

    Changed it at 1.8 hours. You will see a (relative) ton of metal even at that few hours of use. I recommend changing with Dino oil first few times. I think I changed my oil 3 times within the first 6 miles or so. I'm anal like that lol

    You could shorten this video and make everyone's day better. We don't need you to film the tedious bit of screwing on and off every bolt, or filling the oil filter up.
