    i love that with classic suzukis you are able to order any part from suzuki directly. sublime

    • @TwistedGridStudio
      @TwistedGridStudio  3 роки тому

      This is true, but most of the parts that were ordered for this restoration were through Babbit's Online. I highly recommend them.

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 2 роки тому

      Depends on the part and the model of bike, some things for Suzukis are just unobtainium, can't get them for love or money. But they are better than Kawasaki which has a rolling 10 year obsolescence and stop making parts for them.

    Beautiful restoration though just find the black painting pretty boring and anonymous. I'd go for some original Suzuki racing team colors mixed in some original way (imho)

    Just going through the same process with my 86 1100G model GSX-R, and being bent over and shafted by Suzuki New Zealand every time i need some part i can't find on the net or can't get shipped because of the WuFlu. :-)
    Example: Suzuki NZ quoted 500 NZ Dollars!!! for four inlet rubbers, the originals had turned so hard i couldnt get the carbs on. A tip from a forum said heating up a pot of Armour All and letting them soak in it would soften them. It worked, turned them back into rubber :-))

The head,while off I would have polished and ported . ......finishing touches to that superior engine. Nice one hop its still on the road

    Beautiful job! Do the open air filters actually have any beneficial effect besides sounding faster, though? I would think that the original ram-ish air intake would provide cooler air with a slightly higher pressure at speed, which should help keeping the engine a bit cooler and more oomphy.

    • @TwistedGridStudio
      @TwistedGridStudio  6 років тому +1

      Watch 0:56 to 1:04. There are 2 nuts. One is the top nut that can be removed with a socket. The second one further down you'll need to make a custom tool. Take a large socket and mark the areas where you need teeth to lock into the triple tree large nut. Use a grinder to grind metal from the large socket until you have the correct shape. Then remove this second larger nut using your home-made tool. Then the triple tree will come apart. NOTE: when replacing the ignition switch it's held on there by 2 bolts. They are single use bolts. You have to carefully remove them with either a strong vice grip or you might have to drill them out. When replacing I recommend using the same factory bolts for theft protection OR you can get some regular hardware, but it will make the bike easier to steal.

    "restoration"
    "the process of repairing or renovating a building, work of art, vehicle, etc., so as to restore it to its original condition."
    plural noun: restorations
    "the modified motorcycles seem in need of restoration"😁
    This is a "resto'mod".
    It's a nice bike but wasn't the restoration I was hoping to see when I clicked.
    As soon as I saw the carbon covers and polished frame the disappointment set in.
    Was actually hoping to see how the polished frame rail would be "restored" to the original brushed finish. Sadly, no such luck.
    Nevertheless. Nice work. She looks great.👍

    • @TwistedGridStudio
      @TwistedGridStudio  4 роки тому

      I'd never heard of a resto-mod before. I like that term. Perfect description!

      @@TwistedGridStudio
      "Resto-mod" comes from the classic car world.
      It's when they take classic muscle car and modernize it in some fashion. Typically a late model motor/trans, updated suspension and interior. The rest of the car appears stock.
      It's sort of a mixed bag to most people. They either love it or hate it.
      It's the same in our motorcycle world. It's either restored to factory stock or it's modified.
      The "restoration" crowd would rather see it bone stock with factory colors.
      It's extremely expensive and very hard to pull off.
      On the other hand. The resto'mod guys bring the bike back to a nice presentable condition with their own personal taste.
      I'm currently working on a 90 GSXR 1100. Doing my best within a tight budget to to bring it back to factory condition. In other words. I'm fixing what I can, replacing what I can find and so on. There's a crappy video on my channel of when I first got it back in late December of 2019.
      Anyway. Hope this helps explain the "resto'mod" thing.
      👍
      Have a great day brother.

      Have you ever restored anything? Parts are expensive and this bike needed a lot even if it was complete. This was not a restoration as original parts were not used. Updated parts are better IMO but disqualify a bike from restoration. This was a resto mod. Nice work

  • @pauloshea3741
    @pauloshea3741 6 років тому

    Sorry dude, spending 15K replacing parts doesn't qualify as a "Restoration". Lets see you doing one without money!

    • @woodsmark0
      @woodsmark0 6 років тому +1

      Paul Oshea you're right except for the doing it with no money part. You still will spend money in paints,cleaners and parts that ultimately can not be re-used. (Copied and pasted info below)
      Restoration of a vehicle refers to the process of restoring a vehicle to its original condition. Neither updating nor modifying are considered part of the restoration process. A restored car is one that has had all of its systems and/or parts restored to original condition. Selectively restoring parts or systems is referred to as refurbishing. It does not qualify as restoration. Rebuilding an engine may restore that engine, but it does not restore the car, or entitle the car to be called a restoration.
      A car that has had its body work restored to as new condition but has undergone some modifications elsewhere is either a modified car or a resto-mod car, neither being completely restored nor completely modified. If a car has had an engine swap for other than the original model, that car has not been restored. Although most of the parts are original, it qualifies as modified rather than restored.

      Exactly. It was a complete resto-mod.
