No doubt the Oscars are a circlejerk, but there's generally plenty of talent on display that's better than this. I can appreciate music of most genres, including several genres of metal, but this song is about as close to "raucus, incomprehensible noise" as one gets. And coming from a guitar player, it all sounds rather simplistic.
I'm pretty sure the guy that booked them was heavily admonished 6 ways to Sunday after that. Still, great idea to subject those snobs to a good heavy dose of black metal. The looks were priceless.

This is what every “non listener” of metal would be like at a performance like this, some skeptical, some along for the ride, some borderline embarrassed. And yet every time by the end of the song, all are bobbing their heads having the best time of their lives! Incredible! I don’t know if even these actors themselves could have properly embodied these characters as much as this video did for them. Bravo 👏🤌

Saw Messugah open up for Tool in Boulder in 2002! Damn can’t believe it’s been 20 years…I had just graduated HS, an amazing show, they are absolutely brutal live.
I could be wrong, but I think they played the day before or after that Boulder show in Colorado Springs. I was at that show. Both bands played lights out!
