Lyrics:
Bleed
Beams of fire sweep through my head
Thrusts of pain increasingly engaged
Sensory receptors succumb
I'm no one now, only agony
My crimson liquid so frantically spilled
The ruby fluid of life unleashed
Ripples ascend to the surface of my eyes
Their red pens drawing at random, at will
A myriad pains begotten in their wake
The bastard spawn of a mutinous self
The regurgitation of my micro nemesis
Salivating red at the prospect of my ruin, my doom
Malfunction the means for its ascent
Bloodletting the stringent voice to beckon my soul
So futile any resisting tension
As death, induced mechanics propel its growth
The implement, the device of my extinction
The terminating clockwork of my gleeful bane
The definitive scourge of its mockery
The end, art instruments lethality attained
Heed, it commands, heed my will
Bleed, it says, bleed you will
Falling into the clarity of undoing
Scornful gods haggle for my soul
Minds eye flickers and vellicates as I let go
Taunting whispers accompany my deletion
A sneering grin, the voice of my reaper
Chanting softly the song of depletion

Once you get around the awesomeness of the screaming, you can begin to appreciate the amount of genius that went into managing to get two 8-string guitars, bass, and drums to syncronize this perfectly with this insanely relentless rhythm-on-top-of-a-backbeat.
This is the same I think of BTBAM, Gojira and more
@@manuelnoriega7163 I'll check out BTBAM thanks, I hadn't heard of them.
Not even joking, this song calms me down when I am going through a shitty day/phase in life. There is so much chaos in this song that at it flatlines to nothingness (reminds me of the episode where Flash made his heart beat go so fast that it flatlined, leaving Batman thinking that he is dead), where I find no more thoughts in my head while this is playing.
This song is my meditation outlet.

@@drperkyreal4686 im a guitarist and imma approve dat
@@drperkyreal4686 Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'm pretty new to Meshuggah but it seems like the bass player never really plays anything different from what the guitars are playing. I'm sure that's a really big part of what makes their signature sound and I'm pretty sure it's not an uncommon trend in extreme types of metal, though I guess it would be kind of interesting to hear him diverge from the guitar parts a little bit.

This band is one of the very few metal band which sound i can consider a treat to my ears. The music is never boring.
The machine gun bursts of rhythm surround me like a suit of armor. Fascinating.
Some trivia: this song is a pain in the ass to perform. It almost didn't make it on the album. Drum part took Tomas Haake a year to nail down. Most guitarists hide under their bed whenever someone says "play Bleed", lol. Takes a shitload of practice to learn, and twice that to perform in one take. Shows how good musicians Meshuggah actually are. I'm on "month two" now, and I'm still getting used to the picking pattern. In my whole 10 years of guitar playing I haven't come across a song so rhythmically advanced.
I'm a drummer and I'm at 90% speed on airdrum and I'm still making mistakes.
I went to a Meshuggah show and my jaw dropped to the floor. They were amazing 😭😭😭
@Bohappenstance Click I love their lyrics, perfectly appropriate to the mood of the music
Bohappenstance Click music like this isn’t mainly about the lyrics anyways, it’s about the instruments.
first riff picking pattern is easy, enduring it isnt. It took me 15 minutes to learn it but it is really exhausting, I can barely get to the 12th measure. Also at the 'Malfunction' part the riff is really really fucking hard to nail, you either have to memorize everything, every single little 2-note burst and its position or you have to do the counting, and both are nightmarish

The drum lines, every artist can respect how difficult that is, artists show up to their concerts just to appreciate that staccato kick of their lead drummer.
"Beans of fire sweep though my head"
The drums are just completely inhuman...
theres a technique you can do where you hit the pedal with your heel first then slam the ball of your feet down and in one stroke you get two hits on the bass drum. Difficult to learn and master but once you do, doing all these triplets is very easy
It's never easy. Only doable.
Yes, I guess that's kind of right, but you have to do that alternating both feet to get enough power during 6 minutes while keeping enough energy for the ending (album track is 7 minutes long).
Salim N. Well, Tomas uses triggers for Bleed, so power shouldn't be much an issue from what I understand about drumming.
Catter Peener Tomas doesn't even do what I said above. He keeps using the right foot to get the 32nd notes during half the song, then he switches a little to the left, then back to the right, and finally back to the left (from what I see on the Bleed drumcam on Wincent Drumsticks' channel). Not sure if he uses a trigger live but either way that's still an unbelievable performance. In my comment, I was mostly referring to how most drummers on youtube cover it (except Troy Wright who does it like Tomas.. but without triggers, lol) and how I practice to get it right (someday).
