I always say food and memories go together, and we are so glad our new recipe bought back some fond memories for you. Enjoy to the fullest and thank you for stopping by.. :) Bonita
Right!! I agree totally!! I feel that way with rhubarb....so lovely and under used. We have a tasty rhubarb custard squares ua-cam.com/video/i5gChq5Okvc/v-deo.htmlsi=E0Bt0_OgI33gSUIB Enjoy :) Bonita
Thanks for sharing this memorable recipe. Homemade is just SO much better than any box mix or 'store bought' custards/puddings. I've become a big fan of substituting vanilla bean paste in recipes calling for vanilla extract. It really does enhance the vanilla flavor.
That sounds so lovely!! We can't get vanilla bean plants here in our neck of the woods. But I have used it when we travel and lived away. Thank you for sharing that with us and for always stopping by.. :) Bonita
Awe!! You are the best!! I'm so glad you enjoyed our new recipe today. Nothing fancy and exciting but it is very tasty!!! Enjoy and thank you for stopping by....:) Bonita
Thank you, my British husband loves custard (I'm American and call it baby food) I'll make it for him next time we have a lot of milk in the house. I would use cinnamon, not nutmeg because I don't keep that around the kitchen. Also, this would be a good base for rice pudding.
That sounds lovely and I'm sure he will love it. I agree it would be a lovely base for a rice pudding. I do have a lovely recipe for rice pudding ua-cam.com/video/pqfzic-DLUY/v-deo.htmlsi=9b3wMppCNyI6hBU3 Thank you for stopping by. :) Bonita
I discovered that mixing everything but the vanilla and butter in a large glass measuring jug then microwaving the mixture in increments, whisking in between, is even less fuss and mess. When almost thick enough remove and whisk in the vanilla and butter. No tempering of the eggs and the jug makes easy pouring
Sounds lovely and thank you for sharing your method with us. Having the option to cook in the microwave gives you more space on the stove top for other food you are cooking. Have a lovely Sunday and thank you for stopping by.....:) Bonita
I'm having a wonderful flashback to Sunday evening cold plates, with Jello fruit salad, custard and canned cream for dessert. Thanks Mom. You cook like she did. I always liked the crust on the custard. Getting close to 100,000 subscribers!! Hi from a Townie in Florida.
Hi and welcome to our channel and it is exciting for sure...we can't wait to see the number roll to 100.000!! I'm so glad you are enjoying our recipes and I can remember moms custard always having a hard crust over the top..Bless her for making Sunday desserts and meals for us. I'm so glad our recipe is bringing back fond memories for you of your mom. Bless you!!! :) Bonita
The same to you and yours, it is a nice day here today for Victoria Day!! I have a line of cloths out on the line and the warm wind is blowing it just perfect!!! Have a lovely day!! Bonita
I'm so glad you enjoyed our new recipe, I believe that's where fond memories start from food. Sunday's was the day you had a big dinner at 12.00 after Church and a cold plate at 5.00 with a tasty old fashioned custard and jello for dessert. Everyone was dressed up and just enjoying Sunday. Fogo is a place we need to visit sometime, it's beautiful there. :) Bonita

Awe!! You are so sweet and thank you so much for letting me know. We so appreciate you enjoying our channel and of course my accent!! :) This custard is so lovely I hope you get to make it sometime. :) Bonita
Beautiful!!! We love custard in our house. However, I have never ever made it from scratch. Now I know how. Thank you Bonita! I wish you a wonderful week, healthy and safe and happy. Thank you Raymond and team for the video.
Nice!! It's good made from scratch but you have to be careful not to let it burn or have any lumps. The taste is amazing and you can control the about of sugar. Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful week. :) Bonita
I use besan or pea flour. Some people might taste the difference but I don't. It's the ultra-fine grind customary to pea flours I've seen that makes it work just as well. At such a small amount, you might consider the healthiness improvement minimal, but I think that every little bit helps. Besides, that way I don't have to keep cornstarch around in addition to my major ingredients, of which bean flour is one.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your recipe with us...I'm glad you found a replacing that works for flour..Enjoy our new recipe to the fullest. Bonita
Hi Bonita Hi Raymond. I love custard. Raymond wants some ice cream Bonita lol. lol Raymond’s Mom had to hide the custard on Raymond lol. He is the custard and Cookie Monster lol. Haha right!! Ice-cream with custard...he cracks me up. You should see his breakfast he makes himself....it is like a master piece of stuff you wouldn't dream of putting on a piece of toast!! Oh boy!! This is a lovely simple custard and easy to make. Thank you Jerri-ellen for stopping by and I'm so glad to hear from you. Hope you are doing well and we are thinking of you all!! Hugs your neighbour Bonita
Haha right!! I believe that was because our folks would try to make more jello then the package aloud. Haha oh my!! Thank you for making me laugh...have a wonderful day!!

I like to use vanilla bean paste, and "steep" it with the milk/cream. It gives it a bit more flavor.
That sounds so lovely!! We can't get vanilla bean plants here in our neck of the woods. But I have used it when we travel and lived away. Thank you for sharing that with us and for always stopping by.. :) Bonita
@@bonitaskitchen I source my vanilla paste from Amazon. Comes in a small jar. Not the real vanilla beans.
@@chicagorandy OK good to know. I will check it out!! Thanks :) Bonita

Clever idea with the clear plastic! Old Fashioned Custard does remind me of Sunday Suppers growing up in Fogo. Thanks for this Bonita and Raymond.
