- American Gods series is full of gods, demigods, deities, spirits of all kinds. But one god was noticeably missing from American Gods TV show for the most of the first season. On American Gods, is Jesus a new or an old god? Why Jesus was not invited to join Wednesday? Why Jesus - and Christianity - is crucial for American Gods? We’ve seen gods from Norse, Slavic and Ancient Egyptian mythology, and more rare ones, like Hindu and Zoroastrian. So why Christianity is almost absent from American Gods series? We expected that the representative of a dominant faith would have played a bigger role on the show, right? Let’s see how exactly Jesus is mentioned in Neil Gaiman’s book. It seems that it was made only to remind us about yet another forgotten god - Mithras - and tell that Jesus took his birth day for himself. But Jesus was never brought into the picture in person. Did Neil Gaiman ever thought of including Jesus into American Gods, or at least expanding his storyline? Oh yes, he actually did! He even wrote a scene in which Jesus and Shadow meet over a glass of wine. But Gaiman took that scene out again - and it stayed so until the 10th anniversary edition of the book. However, America has changed a lot since then, and just omitting Christianity from the epic tale of American Gods would be strange, to say the least. Moreover, television (what an irony - one of the new gods!) allows giving the characters much bigger attention than they had in the novel. So the showrunners did not fail to bring Christianity to the story, and, of course, its major figure - Jesus Christ himself. On American Gods, is Jesus a new or an old god? Bryan Fuller and Michael Green explained it best of all: they placed him between the old religions and the new gods of the technology era. But why Jesus was not invited to join Wednesday’s war? I'm just glad they didn't show too much contempt for Christianity. Still the new gods goal you think would want to erase or replace Christianity (Jesus) from America. The New Atheists certainly do. Perhaps that's how Mr. Wednesday Gets Jesus on his side.

You're a little off....Jesus has so many worshippers and he literally dies for other people and is resurrected. He is so powerful with worshippers...He doesn't really even acknowledge the other Gods existence. It is heavily implied that he cannot be killed (resurrection)...He is technically an "old god" but has not lost popularity like the rest of them...even the "new gods" don't want anything to do with him. It boils down to He is so popular and worshiped He can't even see or be bothered by The Old Gods vs The New Gods. They are like ants to him...unnoticeable and insignificant.

You know, Jesus isn't so boring in the bible. He gets angry and frankly he's just too powerful and too intertwined with the whole of Christianity that includes angels and the Trinity. I don't think the creator know how to depict God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
The old and new gods are simply a small piece of the world while Jesus is the whole world. There's a Bible verse in Matthew 26:53 where Jesus says he can bring down 12 legions of angels. There are 4000-6000 soldiers in a Roman legion. That 48000-72000 soldiers. If Jesus joined the war, there wouldn't be a war. He'd wipe the floor with eveyone.
Also, these gods are limited by belief. They need humans to exist while The Lord God, Yahweh, is omnipotent. He existed before humanity so he has no need for followers or worshippers to exist. He Is. He is the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and the end. He existed before is and He will be after us

Slight correction, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism believe and worship the same God. Just in different ways and belief of salvation.
Allah is a moon god. Yet I do beleive most Muslims hearts are mostly right. YHWH is manifested physically in Jesus not out of nowhere but with a full human experience. Jews, Muslims, Jehova Witnesses, and Mormons deny Jesus as one with the Father the Logos made flesh. Alpha and Omega.

Christianity is a monotheistic religion. Officially, there are no other gods, and it's powerful enough that Jesus gets the benefits of his priests having destroyed the cults of those struggling to survive. Look at Mad Sweeney as Lugh, for instance.

God is unfathomable. Think about this, the word Yahweh roughly translates to hand and nail. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is God. Three separate persons. Father, Son and Holy spirit. Three separate persons that are indivisible and share the same nature in one being. This is why God is far more mesmerizing and wonderful then any other god. The difference between him and every other god mentioned in the world is he actually exists.The world has adopted a view of God that simply isn't true. They make him to be something he is not. Their is only one right Jesus Christ. The true Jesus of the bible and of Christianity. Not some religious Jesus. Ie the mormon Jesus or the Roman catholic Jesus or the Jesus of Islam. These tv shows always seem to portray the wrong Jesus. This is not a joke. There is only one Jesus that saves. It is not by your works or what you do but what he has done for you. I am reading the book first 100+ pages but a little put off by use of f words when not needed. I knew right off Wednesday killed Shadows wife and friend, not hard to see. I'm a reborn Christian and this stuff matters so may not finish book which is a shame as ppl do worship demons as false gods and don't even know it!
