Anyone else outraged that the show has been cancelled? How could they leave us hanging with no finality to all these cliffhangers?

First season was good. Second passable. This season I lost my interest. Not only because my two favorite characters are gone, Mad Sweeney and Mr. Nancy but every season they tend to tell less and less. It really shows that this series was meant to be a soft rework on style and it went downhill fast. If first season was HARD R, this was like PG-13 compared to that.
way beyond sub par, i could still watch sub par,,,,,this show has become unwatchable, because in most of season 3, idk, it seems like there is NO PLOT whatsoever

i watched it because seaons 1 was really good, it was something different, something unique, season 3 just feels like an extra season of Buffy the vampire slayer, nothing original, nothing good, complete waste of money and talent
Thank you for clarifying!!! I have hated Laura from the beginning. Now that has changed. I love a series that forces me to think and find supplemental material to understand the story that is being told. In the words of Bilquis: “A spiritual journey is best with...fries.”
In my understanding, the way they pdepict soulmates in this show does not really seem to be the romantic way we use it for, more like two souls bonded ; whatever the fuck happens, the two of them will have influence on one another, whether it is through direct relationship or chain of events. Romantically speaking, cordelia is indeed a much healthier one for our dear Shadow ^^
How would that make more sense? They've been hinting that it's Laura since season 1. Strong hints too. They basically gave it away when Laura 1)came back from the dead like no non-god could likely do, and 2)she could see Shadow's light and he could make her heart beat, showing that they do have some kind of special connection even though they very clearly were never really in love. I don't like them as a couple, so I hope that's not where this is going, but I hope she is his other half because it would make SO much sense. But then, if it mattered what I thought, Sweeney would not be dead, and he very much seems to be so...meh...
kinda fascinating to see so many fans hate Laura even though the character is very capable & proven right most of the time lol I am sure Bilquis, Laura, & African gods will help Shadow Moon revival in Season 4

I literally never skip parts on a tv-series and I thought I never would especially on American Gods but dude was this season a pain in the ass. Each episode has at least 10 minutes of nonsense and imaginary things that are just being played in slow mo and make you yawn instead of enjoying a god damn tv show. COme on guys
Man, I love these breakdowns for shows I love but do not have the time to watch all of the shows I love. It allows me to watch some of the shows and catch up on the ones I can''t finish in time. Thank you Think Story.
Having read the book, I was surprised with the Technical Boy twist. I honestly can't recall what happened to him in Gaiman's novel. However, it makes sense to "capture" the God of Human Innovation. It would be like harnessing a massive source of power - a "Godhood battery", if you like. One could even say that Godhood is one of the most potent instantiations of human invention and innovation. I remember hearing old stories, probably apocryphal, that when the indigenous people of Terra del Fuego first heard and understood the word "God", first heard monotheism uttered in a single word, they ate the speaker (probably some dodgy missionary). They wanted to literally consume this innovation in Godhood. Apocryphal or not, I get the point. It's a hellava drug.
They've deviated from the book...Shadow Moon's "other half" is his mother...the goddess Libertas. Baldr's light always shines.....Shadow's does not...but the light of liberty will always shine on those that seek it. That's why Laura sees him...she was seeking him...but mainly to be free.
This season was so disapointing. Wasted so many episodes on the old folks home and Demeter...that could have been one or two episides tops. Only episode that was really good was the finale. Hopefully it gets renewed because I do want to see if it can turn around.
The white buffalo is sacred in most native american cultures, it often heralds a new era of peace and knowledge. Usually the renewal of the indigenous people. In some indigenous cultures there are prophecies that the world will come to the edge of ruin, the birth of the white buffalo is the signifier that people will live on versus be destroyed. I think the flaming eyes were just eye candy. But the book talks about how shadow is part native although it doesnt go to heavy in his role in that community.
I realize now wtf turth always in front of our eyes. Think what Shadows mother always say? 'There is light in you don't forget that' This is absolutely match with 6:48
What a fantastic video! I would have totally missed the evo of technical boy into AI via Bilquis. I loved this season. Especially the last half. I’m a big fan of the book and am really digging the expansion of it. BTW, the annotated novel says the Buffalo is supposed to represent America. I’m 💯 for season 4 and a book sequel.
All that’s left in the book to cover on the show is the antiAmerican native god stuff, and derailing the Loki/Odin plan. An hour wrap up episode would cover it. No need to beat a dead horse. That’s how you get seasons 6-15 of Supernatural and Seasons 5-8 of GOT. Let it go at the top when people aren’t sick of it.
I was so thrilled to see this after watching the final episode yesterday. I read the book before watching any of the shows, so i've been struggling to reconcile some of the narratives. After season 1, it seemed as though they were covering about one third of the book. Add to that the production issues they've had, and I was assuming that season three would be the end. I realize now this can't be. I sure hope that they get it together and finish the story! I'll be super mad if it gets canned now that they've brought us this far.
@@Flippy_Nips no it just i really liked Mad Sweeney as find Celtic Paganism/Mythology fasnating as well as Mesopotamian but that seems even less likely to be explored. As for African Paganism/Mythology it got to shine this season with Yoruba and Ibis (no idea where Mr Jacquel at lol) so yes it would be cool if he was still there but African Paganism/Mythology isn't completely gone and yes the is new leprechaun but he's not as fun as Sweeney was
I LOVE the Mad Sweeney stuff. He needs a spin off like Mr. Nancy got. The show Sweeney was way more interesting and had a different death than book Sweeney
It's interesting how they're playing on Tech Boy's need to expand on his emotions and become more human. It definitely can refer to the progress of A.I. But part of me wonders if it's referring to the Singularity. The theoretical point of no return in the *_exponential growth_* of technological advancement, and we either get to a point or are revealed to ALREADY be at the point of _Everything being inside a Simulation._ Especially because they're leading us to believe Ragnarok is coming, Ragnarok's end of the world simultaniously being the Technological Singularity fits in wonderfully with the themes of old is new, new is old.
Never read the books. Really loved season 1 and 2. Season 3, IMO, was kick ass until the last 2 episodes. Hope for a touch more action in season 4.....they should make nice and bring back Mad Sweeney and Nancy, very strong.
If they brought back sweeny than laura being shadow moons soul mate wouldnt make sense since she had intimate relationship with sweeny and loved him too
The show has its ups & down but overall I enjoyed this season. Now the war seems to be being divided into 3 factions, between Mr. Wednesday Old Gods, Mr. World New Gods, & Shadow Moon's Changing gods.
Well done, sir. Season three didn't have as many truly transcendent moments as season one, but it was far more cohesive from beginning to end. It was well planned unlike season one which had enough problems that TPTB had to scrap an entirely filmed episode and come up with a new one on the fly to replace it (the Sweeney in early America episode). Neil Gaiman himself claims season one comes across as an anthology and there is truth to that. Season three also had easily the strongest Shadow as a character. Of course season two would rank.at the bottom understandably.
I was always partial to the idea that shadow moon is baldur, and the Buffalo is The first God of America/the first God to sacrifice itself so people could come to America at least in the book
I was so bored of that town this season. The story really dragged. And I knew something was up with that lady, lol. I still miss some of the OG characters and actors. Hopefully season 4 can be good again.
@@common_marmoset the pacing just drags though. In the show. First two season were exciting and on the move. Then he went to be in a town. And with the other interesting characters they are mostly gone by that point.
@Madama Belladonna Well that's too bad. I can't say I'm not surprised. Idk the reputation Starz has for cancelling stuff. But it started out really good. The plot of Season 3 dragged a lot, and it made me want the good stuff from 4. We still are waiting for this "war." I know there were a lot of Karens offended by the recent nudity and gAy AgEnDa, and I know there's been controversy with prior actors and characters disappearing from the show. It's unfortunate this is where it all ended up. I kinda want Yetide to play storm.
I think I want to see how it ends. But I'm not sad that it IS ending. That first season was just TOO good for what came after to compete with it and win. Particularly with the second season departure of Gillian Anderson (Who gave a career best performance in season one), followed by the inexcusable removal of Orlando Bloom (who ALSO gave a career best, just flat out STELLAR performance as well ANDTHENSOME!!).
I fell off this season after Mad Sweeney’s death but this synopsis has encouraged me to finish the season. The show isn’t very easy to follow if you’re not familiar with different mythologies/the books and sometimes episodes draaaag a point in 5 directions to try and support this smorgasbord of characters and their back stories. But now I want to follow through and see how it goes from Mad Sweeney’s death to Shadowmoon finding himself and Odin’s foreshadowed betrayal.
Why wouldn't they have souls? There's no evidence that they don't and plenty of evidence that they do. I'm not saying it makes sense, but in the universe of the show, they seem to have souls, or they're souls that grow bodies, or something like that. Czernobog said Odin was watching Shadow in the finale, and we know the dead Zoraya gave Czernobog a sign about the new gods in either 3x09 or 3x10. Sweeney's hoard was an extension of his psyche and something is still keeping it active, and Sweeney and Laura had some kind of astral sex experience in S2 which seemed to imply that their souls were interacting. We have no idea if their afterlife experience is the same as it is for humans, but they seem to live on after death in some way. And Shadow and Laura seem to be half human, i.e. born the traditional way and thus subject to a soulmates trope. (I do think this soulmates development is terrible writing, though, and hope it's a red herring.)
Such an exceptional feat of storytelling, our stories of the past meandering into the stories of today, in such a watchable, interesting and just damn coooool style. I think I need to read the books now..
Such a sick and intricate series with relations to various gods. One thing which I find a conflict is if Mr world is Loki - then surely he should be considered an old god not a new one?
2:01 Strong Prometheus vibes coming up from tech boy. Think about it: Gave humankind fire, cursed to resurrect himself and forget what happened before etc etc
The greatest sacrifices are self chosen , Shadow being a demi , who willingly chose to hold Grimnirs vidual & complete it , amidst a battle of gods old & new all unknowingly dedicated to chaos so to speak , but they never knew Shadow would be as loved as Baldur the Blessed , a true King of America….

Baldur’s nature seems to fit shadow moon. Plus he gives off light which Laura Moon can see.
Thats what I thought bc Baldur has some ice powers right and Shadow can maken snow happen?
Oh my, just watched the entire series and I actually forgot about this. It's toned down or even removed from the last season altoghether.
No, Baldor was a son of Oden and Fria so he can't be Baldur.
Shadow Moon is nearly bald if he loses anymore hair he will be Balder.
Yes he is Baldur the blessed , this explains why he wins , his is beloved of all , the Egyptians , the Loa , Chernobog & his sisters Anansi , Whiskey Jack remember they could all see his second nature that shadow could not see himself
The conversation between Techno boy & Bilquis As his subconcious is 1 of my favorite segments❤
Was thinking about the purple colored car that Shadow Moon drives . In ancient times purple was the color that divinity and royalty used 👍
And mostly pimps when they get back from pimp slapping their girls :P
But purple is not pink (the car is clearly pink). Purple is much much darker. And purple was the color of royalty (and Roman senators) because it is produced in minute quantities by sea snails and was highly work intensive and therefore extremely expensive to produce.
@@_TbT_ "..keep the color Purple."
@@oosiee7550 Pink, she said "keep it pink"...
@@HellGod67 no she said purple
The Yoruba God of Death is actually pronounced "eekoo" but spelled Iku. Iku also translates to death in Yoruba. Overally great video, loved it.
I really do miss Media and Astora..never really got over their departure but I can understand why they left.
Because Bryan Fuller. Check out some of the shows Bryan Fuller was attached to. They're all good to great. None suck. Hannibal, Dead Like Me to name a couple
Shadow's hair looks ridiculous
I hate it so much
The producers insisted on this haircut. Imo he definitely looks better with hair than bald. 🙌 😊
Yessss
@@andrearoppel7541 i hate it so much that I just searched the last ep on UA-cam so I could spare myself from seeing 10 episodes of that hair 😭
They was wrong for that fr
So apparently Tech Boy is the most important god he’s the bridge to both old and new gods. He’s definitely important.
Another show analysis I watched called him Prometheus... the God who stole fire from the Gods and gave it to mankind
If he's the embodiment of Jan innovation then it could be argued he's the oldest. Gods are arguably a human innovation
I love that he is more interesting that his book counterpart
@@TigerLily61811 Prometheus wasn't a God, he was a Titan
@@connorradcliffe1769 Titans were Gods, the other group were called Olympians
Anyone else outraged that the show has been cancelled? I know they are talking about maybe either a movie or a mini-series but I don’t have much hope on that (seeing how other shows in similar situations promised this and never delivered). How could they leave us hanging with no finality to all these cliffhangers?
Yes I am
I loved the time-lapse sequences of the vigil, really beautiful colour pallet.
I really, *really* hope that Shadow comes back with a new haircut, that fucking fringe must stay in Valhalla.
It’s outright confirmed by world when he says maybe I’ll put a branch of mistletoe between your eyes
What is that confirming?
@@fullstacklogan if you know your Norse myths, you'll know lol
Loki
@@suhpaul1 low key
I was sure he was Loki from way back, did not read the book so i needed to form my own conclusions but he always has that Loki vibe about him, the way he moves and talks, the way he just goes about himself and the things he does just feel like Loki, but yeah, with the trickery and mistletoe lines, he basically confirmes it
As usual, almost nothing happens all season and they end on a cliffhanger. The writting on this show is sadly sub-par.
@@MegaBigmac87 I have to agree with you, but Shadow Moon still somehow keeping me with the show. But, [and I'm going for some spoilers here so spoiler warning for season 3] we follow Demeter and her story and how they got together and how he needs her for his plans, but still loves her etc etc only to see after all those episodes that she just kills herself or whatever and that's it. We forget about her and new sub par sub plot starts.
This episode was way better binge watching the whole season. Nothing much happened this season too.. 1st of the best. Im just watching cuz i love the cast.
so many story arcs just went down the drain, what was the plot for Demeter and Salim for?? they were just filler that does nothing to further the plot
@@farhanrafi8481 yes you're right Demeter was filler and Salim had potential but faded away this season. Demeter couldve been used wisely. She couldve warned Shadow that Wednesday do only what is good for him. What's good this season was.. that's technical boy.
@@varunkrit4422 Almost feels like a ton of this stuff was setup for a s4.
But they never got that, so now some stuff just feels weird & random lol
Like the sympathizing of Odin in the last half for the ultimate plottwist that he's still a dipshit feels unfinished in general. He didn't even get a good send-off with Shadow too. Really feels like smth they would've concluded in s4, for Odins redemption or for the complete opposite. But now it just feels like they're not really picking a side what direction they want with him
Holy shit, the Requiem of Balder song was also been hummed by Mr World AKA Loki
And in Norse mythology, Loki orchestrated Balder's death. Makes sense he would hum it

Shadow Moon is baldur as such when Baldur passes is the start of Ragnarok
Who are all these people saying this show is terrible???? Why do you watch it then???? This is one of the most creative shows in Hollywood in years.....thanks to this explanation. i love it even more :)
i watched it because seaons 1 was really good, it was something different, something unique, season 3 just feels like an extra season of Buffy the vampire slayer, nothing original, nothing good, complete waste of money and talent
Thank you for clarifying!!! I have hated Laura from the beginning. Now that has changed. I love a series that forces me to think and find supplemental material to understand the story that is being told.
In the words of Bilquis: “A spiritual journey is best with...fries.”
Hope it’s not Laura. Shadow and Cordelia would make more sense to me.
But then, if it mattered what I thought, Sweeney would not be dead, and he very much seems to be so...meh...
kinda fascinating to see so many fans hate Laura even though the character is very capable & proven right most of the time lol
I am sure Bilquis, Laura, & African gods will help Shadow Moon revival in Season 4
@@crozraven Laura is the exact copy of my ex: a soulless, selfish arrogant bitch. Never dies nothing for others only for herself. When she does something for someone else she thinks she deserves a medal or something....

So all I want is season 4 and a good ending. Like right now or next week.
This show is so underrated!
Keep up the breakdowns. Your analysis makes sense of things for me.
I literally never skip parts on a tv-series and I thought I never would especially on American Gods but dude was this season a pain in the ass. Each episode has at least 10 minutes of nonsense and imaginary things that are just being played in slow mo and make you yawn instead of enjoying a god damn tv show. COme on guys
yup, just filler, random ass filler to make the episde last 42 minutes
@@MegaBigmac87 talk about war for an entire season just to see one spear in the heart and peace negotiations.. idk man
Man, I love these breakdowns for shows I love but do not have the time to watch all of the shows I love. It allows me to watch some of the shows and catch up on the ones I can''t finish in time. Thank you Think Story.
1st season was best. The tone of the series has changed so much . When I saw 1619 I just rolled my eyes.
I really hope shadow somehow finds Sweeney and they come back together. 😩🤞🤚
*Tierra del Fuego.
My phone won't let me edit the OG comment, it's broken.
I need Tech Boy...
What happened to Tech Boy?
Minds like Neil Gaiman an are a rare treat, these days.
Can’t wait for season 4. But i really REALLY want Mad Sweeney back
Good luck with that
lol the shows canceled Buddy
The white buffalo is sacred in most native american cultures, it often heralds a new era of peace and knowledge. Usually the renewal of the indigenous people. In some indigenous cultures there are prophecies that the world will come to the edge of ruin, the birth of the white buffalo is the signifier that people will live on versus be destroyed. I think the flaming eyes were just eye candy. But the book talks about how shadow is part native although it doesnt go to heavy in his role in that community.
I had to stop watching the show. Shadow Moon's haircut is scarier from episode to episode. I just can't 😱
When I first saw it I thought What the Hell is This?!?!
Lol
Sameeeeee I stopped at episode 2 I just couldn't
I just found out that’s his natural hair lol whole time I thought he had a perm
The “Please Stand By” cut clip made me laugh so hard 😂
I realize now wtf turth always in front of our eyes. Think what Shadows mother always say?
'There is light in you don't forget that'
This is absolutely match with 6:48
What a fantastic video!
An hour could not wrap that up.
😭 It got fuckn canned.
Awesome breakdown and as soon as Mr. World started his final monologue with Tech-boi I figured he was Loki the Trickster. This is a great series
This season was good but it needed Mad Sweeney.
Agreed miss him a ton
Mr Nancy: am I a joke TO YOU?
@@BootsMcGee3 I am here for a Mad Sweeney spin off and maybe I can show up in it lol
RIP American Gods
Such a shame that it was cancelled.
It's interesting how they're playing on Tech Boy's need to expand on his emotions and become more human. It definitely can refer to the progress of A.I. But part of me wonders if it's referring to the Singularity. The theoretical point of no return in the *_exponential growth_* of technological advancement, and we either get to a point or are revealed to ALREADY be at the point of _Everything being inside a Simulation._
Especially because they're leading us to believe Ragnarok is coming, Ragnarok's end of the world simultaniously being the Technological Singularity fits in wonderfully with the themes of old is new, new is old.
I love this shows version of GUNGNIR
So a great show. I still miss it. Crispin glover is such an underrated actor. Thank you everyone who was involved in this show 👏
I'm so glad you explained it. I was so confused this season.
Great finale, great show. Can we talk about the figure wearing Mr. Nancy's "Indigo" stripped jacket in that scene with Bilquis and Lara??? Anybody?!
The gods really die so easily. It feels like even humans can kill them.
You are correct. Believing in and worshiping a God gives it life; and nothing more. A God has no power but what humanity gives it or not; too kill it.
Humans are gods
Also Frigg is associated with cats
Never read the books. Really loved season 1 and 2. Season 3, IMO, was kick ass until the last 2 episodes. Hope for a touch more action in season 4.....they should make nice and bring back Mad Sweeney and Nancy, very strong.
If they brought back sweeny than laura being shadow moons soul mate wouldnt make sense since she had intimate relationship with sweeny and loved him too
Holly shit , Neil Geiman is a freaking Genius.
Thr hidden metaphor for our real world.
Sad they canceled the show. No season 4. I’m canceling my starz subscription cause of this
I was always partial to the idea that shadow moon is baldur, and the Buffalo is The first God of America/the first God to sacrifice itself so people could come to America at least in the book
I was so bored of that town this season. The story really dragged. And I knew something was up with that lady, lol. I still miss some of the OG characters and actors. Hopefully season 4 can be good again.
Most of the time I have more fun thinking about the show than watching it. They definitely waste a lot of time on dumb filler.
the Lakeside storyline took like a third of the book, they couldn't just leave it out
@@common_marmoset the pacing just drags though. In the show. First two season were exciting and on the move. Then he went to be in a town. And with the other interesting characters they are mostly gone by that point.
@Madama Belladonna when did that happen?
@Madama Belladonna Well that's too bad. I can't say I'm not surprised. Idk the reputation Starz has for cancelling stuff. But it started out really good. The plot of Season 3 dragged a lot, and it made me want the good stuff from 4. We still are waiting for this "war." I know there were a lot of Karens offended by the recent nudity and gAy AgEnDa, and I know there's been controversy with prior actors and characters disappearing from the show. It's unfortunate this is where it all ended up. I kinda want Yetide to play storm.
Really good breakdown. Hadn’t thought about the magician from a few episodes back being Loki
Orlando Jones
I fell off this season after Mad Sweeney’s death but this synopsis has encouraged me to finish the season. The show isn’t very easy to follow if you’re not familiar with different mythologies/the books and sometimes episodes draaaag a point in 5 directions to try and support this smorgasbord of characters and their back stories. But now I want to follow through and see how it goes from Mad Sweeney’s death to Shadowmoon finding himself and Odin’s foreshadowed betrayal.
we should have gotten a Season 4 and 5
I read the novel ages ago and I had really forgotten who Mr World really was.. Perhaps that was for the best, that was a nice surprise.
So this show has no idea where its going
shadow and the woman are gods but they have twin souls
gods don't have souls
Maybe because they are actually demi gods? They have human mothers. Honestly just a guess...who knows with this show anymore.
Gods are nothing but Souls
This is a masterpiece bro !
One of the best Shows by far
Just wanted to say hi Think Story. 😊
its gotten worse with every season, this shit is heading toward cancelation, trust me
