  • In this video I replace the dew wipes in my 84 Fiero. The process is the same for all Fiero’s. The only difference is power or manual mirrors.
    If you enjoyed the video leave a comment and a like! Subscribe for more. I have many more projects and hopefully some fun track day videos after quarantine is over!

    Finally, a tutorial that doesnt require me to buy a tool from rodney or take the window out

    Awesome..a technique where I don’t have to rivet the window back. Thanks for the tips.

    Thaks for this! The tip about sliding the window made it so much easier to get to the screws. Unfortunately, my dew wipe felt part broke off while installing it. So now I have to pull it back out and fix that.

      @@RearEngineShop well it was false hope 😅
      I had to take apart alot more stuff to get to the screws on my -88.
      There are some rubber stops at the top of the door that limits how much the window can be lifted. Also had to unscrew the ”rear cam support to door” top and bottom to be able to push the window back.
      But now the dew wipes are out.. just have to see about getting the new ones in 🙃
      2,5 hour spent so far. Dont you just love your Fiero 😁

      @@RearEngineShop no worries. Your basic tip was still correct. My car dont have many miles on it so maybe things fit a bit tighter.
      I also noticed my door dont look like the one in the Haynes manual. Not sure if all -88s have the same doors?

    Great video I am installing my new wipes today! What I would like to inquire about is the cut-out on the hood of the red fiero in the background.

    • @RearEngineShop
      @RearEngineShop  Рік тому +1

      If you open your hood and look at the underside you will see a half moon area up by the radiator. It’s that cut out. It’s supposed to help with cooling, at least that’s what everyone said on the Fiero forum years ago. I like how it looks.

    Could you film the Drivers side replacement. Its seems the driver's door is not exactly like the passengers, and I am unable to get the second from the outside screw out for the outer wipe. The glass will NOT give me the room to get a screwdriver on it! Any tips?

    • @RearEngineShop
      @RearEngineShop  2 роки тому

      Mine was exactly the same on both sides. Could try carefully wiggling the glass and pulling up on it to see if you can get a little more clearance. I’ve done a few fiero’s and haven’t had that issue. 🤔

    Could you give more info on what front bumper this car has? It looks like the wedge nose with a custom lower air dam? Looks really good

    • @RearEngineShop
      @RearEngineShop  3 роки тому +1

      It’s the IMSA kit from the 80s made by a company called DGP. The lower air dam was a part of that kit. They were reproduced but I’m not sure anyone does these days.

    • @bmcgawain
      @bmcgawain 3 роки тому +1

      @@RearEngineShop I was afraid that would be the answer. I've found a couple guys who claim they have original molds and do replicate DGP and Fiero warehouse products, but they are so backlogged that ordering is impossible.
      Great car, keep the videos coming!

    May I inquire as to the source for the dew wipes? I don't recall how to take the window stops out after you unbolt them.

    • @RearEngineShop
      @RearEngineShop  4 роки тому +2

      I believe the Fiero store sells them. You hold the stops with your hand as you unbolt them. Once the vapor barrier is out of the way you can get your hand in there. If you don’t hold them they fall to the bottom of the door.

      @@RearEngineShop Good video, I have to replace my dew wipes on my 1987 GT. I would have never figured out those bolts and tabs were the window stops to get the window bit higher to get under it to get to those last two screws. Check out my fiero with the joystick shifter. It's my full name with a dot in between and a dot COMercial on the end. I am designing a Shifter Assistant. It will be 9 Programable Color LEDs that will show which gear/neutral gate the transmission is in and which gears are safe based on RPM and Speed. I will even have lockout Solenoids to prevent wrong gear selection. I am making it to prevent money shifting which I did once but the ECM shut down the engine as it reached 6200 RPM, so I was safe. I also have my Tachometer from my old 1986 SE that died decades ago that I stripped and sold off pieces. I am going to mount it on the hood for and outdoor "peripheral glancing tach" - for fun.

      @@RearEngineShop I am a retired engineer. I have to always be designing something, else I get restless. Anyway, my ALDL Monitor helped me find:
      The Intake Air Temp (IAT) failed open - mouse ate through the wires.
      The Coolant Temp Sensor (CTS) failed open - replaced it.
      The EGR Solenoid coil failed open - the Fiero Store cant get them so I tore mine apart and rebuilt it (rewound the coil).
      All three of these were making it run real rough and a terrible idle.
      I posted a video on the EGR System. I am updating it soon to include a functional/diagnostics tests and details on how to open it to rewire the coil since these are getting hard to find. I will also be posting the Shifter Assistant, it will be based on the Arduino UNO.
