PT3 $500 Fiero GT. Fix exhaust leak, Engine cradle weld, clean heater fan, trunk wires

- Ordered parts, key ignition, door locks, shift select cable and did some engine cradle rust repairs. Welded in some patch panels, thats the only rust I found underneath after inspection.
Vacuumed the front compartment, took out the heater blower motor and cleaned the mouse nest out of there. AC works! But sucked up an acorn and had to remove blower again to get the nut out.
Patched the rust hole in engine trunk with fiberglass reinforced bondo, painted and installed the rear carpet
Fixed the trunk relaese and door ajar switch wires that go through the trunk lid. Soldered the broken wires together and used heat shrink tubing. Now the electric trunk lock works and so does the door ajar light.
The $500 fiero project car runs great so far. Killer deal

I'd say for $500 you scored big on that one. Especially with how very few problems it has for its' age. As for your wheels, there's not really anything wrong with them. But IMO they don't match the car too well. I'm used to seeing that style but I've always seen them on Firebirds/Camaros and Silverado pickups. So I think the issue is they're too "muscle" looking for a small sporty car. Especially a car that is European inspired. I think the Fiero needs a nice set of wheels with a sporty star pattern. Just my OP, it's not my car so it's not my place to say. 😁
They're not my first choice, but they're not ugly to me
@@MotoCheez Nah, they're not that bad. I've seen far uglier and tackier looking wheels that people have had on cars they shouldn't be on.
Put some fungus killing fuel treatment in the gas tanks as a precaution.

The perfect wheels for that car are ws6 Trans am snowflakes. But they won't fit.
The transam rims won't fit? I have a set off a 95, not WS though. I was hoping they'd fit, was going to use on the other SE when I put the 3.8sc in

Someone I knew died because he didn't use jack stands. The car fell of the floor jack and killed him instantly. Just sayin'...

I agree with Vee, the wheels are ugly. They are Cheese Master 1989 wheels. High school kids back in the 80’s thought these were cool. They never were cool. Lol 😂 imo

You can replace the door striker pins with the Dorman FORD pins. Will stop door light and door rattle when window is down. (New hinge pins if worn are recommended but issues will come back)

with the ignition on, trunk latch only works with the parking brake, with ignition off, it works regardless

I'm an old car guy I worked on cars for 44 years get yourself some jack stands going under that car with only the floor jack is an accident waiting to happen. I love the car great deal
I did use the stands while I was under the car, removed when welding and video, which was dumb I know!

I see mama got her parking spot back. I wondered how long that'd fly. Would one of those brushes used for cleaning dryer ducts help in conjunction with the vacuum to get where you're struggling to reach inside the blower ducting?
Yeah I moved it before she got home, I didn't think of a brush I just used one of those trim remover things to loosen up the stuff
Saw this vid about an hour after seeing someone on Marketplace selling one. They put in alot of work into it and a 350!!!
I saw one with a 350 in it but I guess it's been sitting they were going to take the motor out of it for another project. The 350s kind of heavy unless it has a lot of work to get some horsepower out of it. In LS swap would be ideal! I have a SBC 350 sitting in my other garage complete but I think it's too heavy....

If the interior has a mouse smell I have had luck putting a few scoops of fresh coffee grounds in a coffee filter and zip tying it closed. Kind of resembles a big version of those old snap pops you throw on the ground. Anyway I hang hang it from the rear view and I have had luck with the smell going away and it smells like coffee and haven’t had mice try to eat it. Done it a few times and no problems and the smell goes away.

I think that little green box you removed above the blower was one of the electronic rust prevention systems.
It was a remote alarm system, I looked up the model

I did most the time when I was underneath, but did remove welding. I know it's dumb.

Many did, all of it was because of debris that would fall on a manifold and catalytic converter

I had stands under it when I was under it doing the exhaust I took him out when I was welding cuz he got in the way of recording. But yeah you're right!

Hey cheez, I want more top speed on the TBR7. Chain says 530, and I counted 12 teeth on the sprocket. So should I get a 15 tooth 530 sprocket?
I believe you can only fit a 13t with the 530

The bolts are very prone to breaking off and most likely will

@@MotoCheez yeah the front manifold is easy to get to, but those damn bolts😂3 out of 6 broke off on mine in the block😕
@jasonstring9156 Don't seem too easy with that AC compressor in the way. Did you do the welder with a nut to get them out, that's what I'm afraid of, them breaking off
@@MotoCheez yeah that back manifold by the AC is not fun you can get to it on the top by removing your decklid for more hand clearance. If they break yeah it sucks. You can try that method, sometimes pulling the head is the only way. I’m swapping in a 4.9 caddy v8 so I’m just living with the leak for now
The ajar light could also be your decklid switch, check that
I think that's what it was, toward the end of video I rewired deck lid because the wires were broken off where the hinge goes up and down

When i had my fiero it went through the snow great. Mine got stolen, be careful they are so easy to steal.
I don't plan on taking this in the snow I don't want it to rust anymore, there's no security key on these so they are easy to steal unless you put a ignition disable switch somewhere which isn't a bad idea
@@MotoCheez the way they got mine was they popped a hole in the plastic right behind the key and then all they had to do is push the metal rod from the ignition forward and it will start. What a bad design, it probably took them 40 seconds to take.
@mellow1163 The other fiera I got was stolen too and then recovered a few days later it's on the VIN report. This one doesn't even have a key yet they just forced the ignition to turn on that's how I've been driving until I get my key sets

Hi cheese you asking the last time about the ignition and I think I misunderstood a push button set up by passes all of the ignition set up on the steering column as long as you can move the wheel it will start and drive. If the car battery dead that when you would have to supply power some how to keep it running jumpers to a good battery or its got a real good charging system . it a nice set up if you don't have keys if it die you have to hook up the push button. It basically send power straight to the starter turning the car over when button pushed.👍💯👊🍻
Yeah that'll work on the older cars but not the chip or RFID cars. As long as you can bypass the steering lock that is
@@MotoCheez yup exactly on the old car you cut the rod if you don't care about it locking again and for the RFID and other signals its not a problem with a tool called flipper zero it can send any signal basically to the car that you want if you know how to use it right that is💯👍🍻👊
@josephsaucedo8691 He had a flipper zeros only work if you can get the RFID code to start with. On a car you don't know you're going to have a problem
